READ ALONG TO PRACTICE YOUR ENGLISH AND TO LEARN THE MEANING OF BRICK AND MORTAR: So if you look at the wall behind me this right here is a brick and this stuff in the middle between the bricks is called mortar. So we have bricks and we have mortar but we also use this phrase to describe something else. We have what we call brick and mortar businesses. A brick and mortar business is a business that has an actual building, as opposed to online businesses. So every since we started to have online businesses we needed a way to distinguish between businesses that have online stores and businesses that have stores in the real world. So we decided to say that stores that exist in the real world we would call brick and mortar stores. So if you drive to my local town there are a lot of brick and mortar stores. If you go online you can find stores like Amazon.
So if you look at these. They’re bricks and they were put here by a person that we call a bricklayer. A bricklayer is a person who lays bricks. So they mix up a whole bunch of mortar and they get a whole bunch of bricks and they work at laying bricks all nicely in a row. So the person who puts bricks up to form a wall is called a bricklayer.

My house build Pt2- ground floor brickwork and concrete formwork
Second part of the house build, from water insulation to concrete form work of the ground floor.
We started by mixing water insulation sealant and brushing it around the rebar anchors in three layers. space in between the anchors was first brushed with bitumen primer and then 4mm thick bitumen foil was melted on top of it. First layer of bricks was placed on top of leveled mortar layer. Mortar has to be almost perfectly leveled for this kind of blocks, they are cnc planed and their thickness doesn’t deviate more than a tenth of a millimetre. Other layers of blocks are glued together with special polyurethane glue. This kind of blockwork is a little bit more expensive than classic but it has 60 percent better thermal properties and is three time faster to work with, also much cleaner. After all the brick work was done, we tied all the rebar to its position and assembled the concrete forming. The blockwork went pretty fast and we did it in about five days but the rebar and form work took us almost three weeks. Hopefully the second floor will go much faster.
