The right bra for plus sizes

A well-fitting, shaping bra is essential for most women. In order to prevent tension or back problems, choosing the right size is particularly important for women with a large torso. Don’t be fooled by the markings: a D cup bra doesn’t have to be larger than a C cup. For example, the cup of a size 85D bra is the same size as the cup of a size 80E. Only the size of the underbust circumference has changed.

Find out your bra size – determine the circumference and cup size

To determine the correct bra size, you need two values: the underbust and the bust measurement. To measure underbust, place the tape measure around your chest where the tape sits. Pull the tape taut, but not so tight that it cuts into your skin. When measuring your chest, place the measuring tape loosely across the fullest part of your chest. You can then use a size chart to see which (lower) band and cup size the values correspond to.

Women with large breasts and tummies often look for style tips to hide their curves. While all bodies are different and beautiful, we’re constantly finding ways to minimize the appearance of our large breasts and stomachs. In this article, we share some quick tips, tricks, and tricks to hide big breasts and belly. Just look!

The right neckline tastefully hides large breasts

When it comes to concealing large breasts, the cleavage is the crucial aspect of any dress and bodice that can transform the look of your couture. The V-neck creates a balanced look and helps to hide the stomach and breasts.

By hiding we don’t mean hiding. But it helps minimize the large appearance of the abdomen and breasts. Likewise, a sweetheart neckline is a great choice to tastefully show off your cleavage without drawing attention to your curves.

On the other hand, if the neckline is too low or covers your neck completely, it can accentuate your chest and stomach in a way that you don’t want. If you’re wearing a shirt, shirt dress, or button-down top, you can unzip the top loop for a look that resembles a V-neck.

Try camisole and shapewear to style big breasts and bumps

Another way to style big breasts and a big stomach is by wearing a camisole or shapewear. It will help tighten the curves. Camisoles and shapewear create an illusion of proportion by hiding the curve.

If you are not happy with the way your dress looks, you can slide some in to create a streamlined body look. You can choose from the wide variety of shapewear and camisoles according to your wishes. In the winter season, women can wear long-sleeved tops before putting on clothes.

Flowing fabric minimizes the size of the large bust and stomach

If you aim to hide your large breasts and stomach, a flowy fabric will help you achieve the look you want. Loose fabric gives the impression of a well-trained body. Some clothing materials are also stretchable; Therefore, they can adapt perfectly to your body shape.

Women can invest in an A-line skirt that accommodates ruffles below their waist. You can also choose vertical patterns that create the illusion of a slender figure. When it comes to bottoms, women can choose casual pants, culottes and boyfriend jeans. These keep the belly inside.

The perfect fit of the bra is a must for large breasts

When we talk about styling, we can’t skip fitting lingerie. If your bra is loose or tight, your breasts will either bulge or look heavy. Therefore, it is important to invest in lingerie that fits the body perfectly.

When the bra supports your large bust, it automatically minimizes the appearance. In addition, a well-fitting bra draws attention away from the abdomen. You can also opt for seamless bras that show no lingerie line on tops and t-shirts.

Pro Tip: Balanced proportions for large bust and stomach

Women who want to create balanced proportions need to focus on their waists. If it’s a dress, add a belt down the center. It balances the top and bottom and hides your heavy breasts and tummy.

Similarly, if you decide to wear jeans or pants, try a high-waisted one. It starts at your waist and makes your legs look big. Pair it with a V-neck or button-down top to create proportion.

What do large breasts indicate?

Advertisement: The study maintains that large breasts are innately a signal of woman’s capacity and ability to bear and nurture children. Key findings suggest there is an association between a particular fertility-related hormone and larger breast tissue.

Alice Fawke Designing clothing for bigger busted women

Boobs…we can never get enough of them or stop talking about their looks. In fact, there are countless studies devoted to the secret of their alluring appeal, with some research providing particularly comical glimpses into our perceptions of breasts and personal preferences. While the legitimacy of many of these so-called “scientific findings” is questionable, here is a list of the weirdest breast studies worth mentioning:

1. Poor men like big breasts, while financially secure men prefer smaller breasts.

Attention busty women: your décolleté could attract gold diggers. According to Psychology Today, the amount of money a man makes has a lot to do with the size of breasts he prefers. The study, conducted by two psychologists, examined the link between financial security and breast size preferences in men. Men from different socioeconomic backgrounds – 266 to be exact – were asked which breast size they found more sexually attractive, based on a series of animated female characters with different breast sizes.

The study found that poorer men, or men suffering from “resource insecurity,” preferred larger breasts, while those who were financially well off preferred smaller breasts. Additionally, it suggests that one view of women’s breast size is that it acts as a “signal of fat reserves, which in turn advertises access to resources.”

2. Hungry men want big breasts, while full men prefer smaller breasts.

A second experiment following the previous study aimed to determine whether ‘nutrition security’ plays a role in preference for breast size. Researchers found that hungry men preferred larger breasts compared to those with full stomachs. The results were compiled by comparing the breast size ratings of 66 hungry men to those of 58 full men – all white British men from a men’s dining room during dinner.

Only white British males were invited to participate in the experiment because ethnicity is known to affect breast size preferences and the study wanted to eliminate any additional factors that might affect the outcome. The study found that hungry men essentially preferred women with fuller breasts. Enjoy your meal!

3. Men who are not interested in fatherhood find large breasts less attractive

According to Psychology Today, researchers Christopher Burris and Armand Munteanu conducted a study based on an “evolutionary perspective on breast size” by surveying 67 college men about their desire to become fathers. Their answers were measured on a scale. The men were then asked to match the women’s breasts, hips and proportions to their “ideal sexual partner” in a computer-animated program. The results showed that men who wanted to remain childless preferred smaller breasts, while men who preferred larger breasts expressed a desire to become fathers.

The study claims that large breasts are inherently a signal of a woman’s ability and ability to bear and nurture children. The main findings suggest that there is a link between a specific fertility hormone and larger breast tissue. In addition, larger breasts and a smaller waste-to-hip ratio were associated with a greater likelihood of fathering children.

4. Squeezing the breasts can prevent cancer

Good news for men – you can actually save your significant other’s life by constantly grabbing her boobs. According to UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, squeezing the breasts can prevent cancer. Apparently, mechanical forces and physical pressure on the breasts can halt the rapid growth of cancer and prevent runaway cells from becoming malignant.

Gautham Venugopalan of UC Berkeley’s Fletcher Lab explained that people have known for centuries that physical forces can affect the body: “When we lift weights, our muscles get bigger. Gravity is important to keep our bones strong. Here we show that physical strength can play a role in growth – and reversion – of cancer cells,” he told the UC Berkeley News Centre.

5. Women who get breast implants are three times more likely to commit suicide

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast implants are now the number one cosmetic procedure in the United States. How ironic, then, that a procedure performed to purportedly boost a woman’s self-esteem has led to the finding that women who receive breast implants are at least three times more likely to commit suicide.

The 2007 Annals of Plastic Surgery report found that the increased risk of suicide became apparent 10 years after a woman’s implantation. Loren Lipworth of Vanderbilt University Medical Center observed 3,527 Swedish women who had breast augmentation surgery between 1965 and 1993 and found that the risk of suicide tripled in this group, although only 24 of the women had committed suicide after an average of 19 years compared to the average population. The study also acknowledged that such suicides could be due to pre-existing psychiatric problems that predisposed some women to suicidal behavior.

6. Sexist men prefer big breasts

According to a study by the University of Westminster, men who are sexist towards women are also likely to have a preference for large breasts. The results, showing an association between sexism in men and breast size, included 361 white males, ages 18 to 68, who were shown 3D models of women with a range of breast sizes. The men were then asked to identify which women they found most attractive, after which each received a survey measuring hostility and attitudes toward women, relationships, benevolent sexism, and how much a man objectified a woman.

The study found that the largest percentage of men (32.7 percent) rated medium-sized breasts as “most attractive,” followed by large (24.4 percent) and then very large breasts (19.1 percent). The majority of men who were interested in large to very large breasts admitted to exhibiting behavioral traits of sexism and hostile attitudes toward women.

The study concluded that men perceive large breasts as “traditional” femininity and “perceive women as meek and weak.” The study’s researchers said, “It is questionable whether benevolent sexist men found larger female breasts attractive because larger breast size in a woman is associated with perceived femininity,” as reported by the Huffington Post.

7. Bras accelerate sagging

According to a French study conducted over 15 years on women between the ages of 18 and 35, wearing a bra is completely useless for women and can even do more harm than good. The study claimed that those women who didn’t wear a bra actually benefited over the long term as they were able to build more muscle tissue, which provided natural support.

Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, who conducted the study, said that in women who didn’t wear a bra, the nipples were “more elevated relative to the shoulders”. The study suggests that when wearing bras, the restrictive material prevents such tissue from growing, which may even accelerate sagging.

Professor Rouillon told Connexion: “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts don’t benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra on,” he said.

Interestingly, the study did not report the actual breast size of the women involved in the experiment.

8. Men who like small breasts prefer a submissive partner

According to psychologist Stuart Fischoff. Ph.D. Men who like women with small breasts generally seek a more submissive, non-threatening partner. He explained in Men’s Health, “You might get the psychological cue that she’s not trying to compete with other women with larger breasts, and so she’ll be faithful to you. Or maybe the very first girl you had a crush on had small breasts, and if she constructed your earliest example of what is sexy, her memory might still lead you to find women with small breasts exciting,” he said .

9. Staring at breasts adds five years to a man’s life

A German study that has been circulating on the internet for years claims that looking at a woman’s breasts for 10 minutes a day extends a man’s life by five years. According to the “author” Dr. Katren Weatherby says staring at her breasts for 10 minutes a day is equivalent to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise.

The study reportedly involved a team of researchers who visited three hospitals in Frankfurt, Germany, and compared the health of 200 men over a five-year period. Half were asked to stare at busty women on a daily basis; the other half were prevented from doing so. The result? Those who stared at busty babes for over five years had lower blood pressure; slower pulse rates and were less likely to develop coronary artery disease.

However, the legitimacy of this particular study has been questioned. According to David Emery of Urban Legends at About.com, this story is a complete hoax. Emery claims Dr. Katren Weatherby does not exist and no study has ever been published. Of course, not all “online scientific studies” are authentic or even convincing.

Conspicuously absent from all breast studies was the role played by a woman’s personality in attraction. Furthermore, regardless of studies, when it comes to breasts — whether small, medium, or large — most men are just happy to have a naked woman in their bed. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not in the chest you’re holding.

What causes extremely large breasts?

Hormonal Changes: Women develop their breasts during puberty as estrogen increases. Pregnancy and milk production can also cause the breasts to enlarge due to hormonal changes. Drug Use: Certain drugs can lead to enlarged breast tissue in both men and women.

What Causes Large Breasts?

Breast size tends to have a strong impact on a person’s self-esteem, whether positive or negative. For example, oversized breasts can cause back and neck pain, make it difficult to find clothes that fit well, and attract unwanted attention from others. Those who suffer from enlarged breasts often wonder what caused their large breasts in the first place and if they can control their size. Common reasons why a person may have overdeveloped breasts include the following:

Genetics: Some men and women are predisposed to fuller breast size. This can be inherited from both the maternal and paternal side of the family.

Weight gain: The breasts are made up of both fatty and glandular tissue. Weight gain or loss can also lead to fluctuations in adipose tissue.

In most cases, large breasts cannot be prevented or treated without surgery due to factors such as genetics or hormones. However, by maintaining a healthy lifestyle with diet and regular exercise, you can help reduce the risk of additional growth from weight gain in the future.

What should I wear to reduce my breast size?

If natural remedies don’t work for you, you may be able to reduce the appearance of your breasts by wearing well-fitting clothes. Invest in a properly fitted bra that provides breast support and coverage. Also, wearing darker colors and monitoring the necklines of your shirt can take attention away from your bust.

The breasts are made up of adipose and glandular tissue with attached hormone receptors. Adipose tissue is the fat tissue that fills the breasts, while the glandular tissue – or breast tissue – is responsible for milk production. Hormonal changes in the body can cause these tissues to expand and the breasts to grow larger over time. Other factors can also have an influence. These include:

Breast development takes place throughout a woman’s life. Some women may view larger breasts as a cosmetic benefit. However, large breasts can come with a number of ailments, including back and neck pain.

To avoid discomfort and increase mobility, some women choose to have surgery to reduce their breast size. However, there are less invasive breast size reduction options that you can try at home. Talk to your doctor before trying any of these home remedies.

1st exercise

Regular exercise can help lose breast fat and strengthen the muscles under the breasts to reduce their size.

Because breasts contain a portion of fat, focusing on cardio and high-intensity exercise can help you lose weight faster and target problem areas. Aerobic exercise — like stair climbing, bicycling, and power walking — can speed up your metabolism and help you lose body fat all over the place.

Strength training exercises like push-ups can also tighten the chest and change the appearance of the breasts. Push-ups can tighten and tighten the chest muscles to reduce the overall size of the chest. However, strength training and targeted exercises alone will not reduce breast size. Without cardio or total body training, some exercises can make breasts appear larger.

It is recommended to exercise at least 4 times a week for 30 minutes.

2. Diet

What you eat plays a role in the amount of fat you store in your body. Total body fat can contribute to breast size.

A balance of exercise and a healthy diet will optimize your weight loss and decrease your breast size. When you eat more calories than you burn, you gain fat and make your breasts grow.

Lean meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables are foods that help burn fat outside of your regular workout. Eating less processed foods and sweets will also make you lose pounds faster.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is another natural remedy known to promote weight loss. Green tea contains a range of antioxidants and can boost your metabolism to burn fat and calories. This reduced fat accumulation helps reduce the size of your breasts. Drinking green tea throughout the day can also boost your energy.

4. Ginger

Similar to green tea, ginger can help increase metabolism and burn excess fat throughout the body. While you can include it in your meals as a natural ingredient, nutritionists recommend drinking it as a tea three times a day to speed up your metabolism and boost weight loss.

5. Flaxseed

Some fatty acids, especially omega-3 fatty acids, are necessary for brain function, lowering blood pressure, and regulating hormones. This is essential in breast reduction as an imbalance in hormones can trigger growth.

Unfortunately, our bodies don’t naturally produce some of the nutrients we need to thrive. We must get them from eating foods rich in these substances. Flaxseed — along with fish like salmon and tuna — is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It can help regulate estrogen levels and ultimately reduce breast size. It is also known to improve your digestive processes.

You can add flaxseed to your food or drink it with water. You may also be able to find non-dairy flaxseed milk and ground flaxseed egg substitutes at your local health food store.

6. Albumen

Another way to reduce breast size is to improve skin tone. Breastfeeding, aging and weight loss can all cause breasts to sag over time. Sometimes this can cause the breasts to appear larger than they are. You can try an egg white mask to restore elasticity to your breast skin.

Beat two egg whites until they form a foam, then apply to your breasts. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes and then remove with warm water. As it begins to dry, you may notice a natural tightening of your skin. However, this is only temporary as the egg white will flake off or wash away.

7. Clothing

If natural remedies don’t work for you, you may be able to reduce the appearance of your breasts by wearing well-fitting clothing. Invest in a properly fitting bra that supports and covers the breasts. Wearing darker colors and observing the neckline of your shirt can also draw attention away from your chest.

What dresses to wear if you have a belly?

Dresses with a draping element around the tummy area often work. Asymmetrical dresses work well too as they draw attention away from the belly and create a vertical line. Dresses that don’t cling and which also have patterns are also great to hide the tummy area.

Want to hide your tummy and still look fabulous? Below you will find many ideas and tips on how to conceal a tummy or how to stylishly cover or disguise a tummy.

Why do you want to hide your belly?

Many women after 40 experience abdominal weight gain, especially after entering perimenopause or menopause.

Your waistline may disappear and you will begin to develop more features of the apple body shape

When you’re trying to cover up a tummy, it can be easy to do the opposite and make yourself look bigger than you really are.

Thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to hide your bump so it doesn’t get in the way of looking fabulously stylish!

Check out my 14 tips below on how to hide your tummy with the right clothes.

Hide your belly in SPRING and SUMMER

Many of you will now be heading towards warmer weather, which is something to look forward to. It can be easier to hide a tummy during the cooler months when it’s natural to add lots of beautiful layers to create long, smooth lines.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t use many of the following tricks in warmer weather. You can still opt for draped, asymmetrical styles, wrap styles where you can change the belt for the most flattering effect, or long cardigans and lighter ruanas for a stretching effect.

Now to my 14 tips. Read on for more flattering layering tips.

1. Avoid wearing tight or fitted garments over your stomach and choose tops with ruffles or draping

If you want to look stylish and emphasize your strengths, it is best to avoid tight tops.

They will accentuate any fat blister you have and draw attention away from you and your fabulous dresses.

Rather choose tops that are slightly draped or gathered.

Hide your tummy with the right tops

A crossover bodice is very effective and this one creates asymmetrical vertical lines which is an added bonus.

In addition, you can choose a top in the colors of the new season. Check out this article on color trends for Spring 2022 for more inspiration.

Below is a draped blouse that can also effectively hide tummies as it won’t cling to your tummy. It also has a flattering V-neckline that can help elongate (rather than widen) your silhouette.

2. Wear leggings or skinnies with longer, draped, or asymmetrical tops

Leggings or stretchy pants that tuck in your stomach will be your best friend.

They fit comfortably around your stomach and tuck it in a little.

Plus you will look fabulous with so many wonderful tunics and long tops to choose from. Nobody will notice your belly!

See Wearing leggings for more tips and examples.

Choose the right leggings that fit your tummy

I personally love Stella Carakasi leggings.

The fabric is firm but stretchy and they are high enough to fit your bump.

You can get them cropped or full length. The 3 buttons at the knee make them fashionable too! I wear mine for both sport and casual outfits.

Another favorite among my readers are the Zella leggings.

Choose the right tunics that will make you look great in leggings or jeans!

Pay attention to asymmetrical tops and sweaters.

Wearing leggings underneath can highlight your hero pieces like this tunic top (below).

This piece can easily be paired with a longer cardigan or a shorter jacket and the pattern draws attention away from your tummy.

Tummy tuck leggings or jeans can be used any time of the year as part of outfits that hide your tummy.

3. Create vertical lines to hide your tummy with long cardigans, jackets, and ponchos

Layering is very effective for camouflage a tummy and is much easier in the fall and winter when you want to use layers to stay warm. You can add a cardigan or jacket.

However, depending on where you live, it is quite possible to use this technique even in spring and summer. Instead of a coat, you can opt for a light cardigan, sleeveless vest or kimono.

Waterfall or straight designs can both work, creating a beautiful vertical line that creates the illusion of length and draws the eye away from your stomach.

Or you can wear a color block like navy, black or gray underneath this cardigan below, creating a slimming column effect in the middle of your outfit.

Deborah @deborahgates_ above (read her style interview here) opts for a sleeveless longline cardigan with a printed jumpsuit.

Below are more examples of outfits that create a long, slim line and hide the stomach.

Layering for every season – use a long cardigan or a cropped jacket

Creating vertical lines with cardigans (as discussed above) works really well, but you can also wear shorter jackets to hide a tummy.

If you pull a biker jacket over a longer top, you confuse the eye because the different hem lengths hide your stomach.

Layers are definitely your friend when it comes to hiding a tummy.

Check out these cardigans from Lock and Love and Urban CoCo to wear with this similar maxi dress and booties.

MBJ Open Front Long Cardigan – Timeson Chiffon V-Neck Sleeveless Blouse – Free People Carmen High Waist Flare Jeans – Lucky Brand Rhazy Sandal – Knotty Deco Ball & Chain Fringe Drop Earrings

The longer your cardigan, the longer and slimmer you appear, although you usually don’t want to go longer than 2/3 from shoulder height to hem.

Short straight cardigans also cover your stomach but have a more boxy silhouette overall so you need to be more careful when styling these cardigans.

You can layer in summer and winter

You can still wear layers in spring and summer depending on the weather, you just need to choose lighter fabrics.

Instead of a cardigan, you can choose a vest. A long vest is perfect for creating long, slender vertical lines, but you can also opt for a shorter waterfall vest.

Layer your (sleeveless) top with a sleeveless vest. This vest cardigan from Amazon pairs with many tops and looks great over skinny pants and jeans. You can also wear it with a tank top and shorts for summer.

It has the benefit of being asymmetrical too, making it even more flattering.

MBJ cardigan with open front

For more vest wearing options, see this article with many options for wearing a long vest.

Below is an option showing how you can wear this in a slightly different gradient.

Shades can be great for giving you a longer, leaner look.

You can see you can still add a layer to your spring and summer outfits.

Sleeveless vests are good for all seasons.

4. Don’t accentuate your stomach by attaching accessories such as a belt directly above it, instead attach the belt higher

When choosing a coat, top or cardigan, you don’t have to do without a belt entirely.

Just make sure the belt sits a little higher so you don’t notice your belly at its widest point.

Again, patterns can help draw attention away from a bigger belly, and when combined, it can do the trick.

Play around with where and how you attach your belt to see what looks most flattering to you.

Rita @ritapalazzi above (read her style interview here) chooses a kimono-style jacket. You can buckle the belt higher or lower depending on what looks good on your body.

Check out these similar belted toppers from VICI Collection, Karen Millen and ACEVOG and wear them with these similar wide leg pants, sandals and clutch bag.

Below are two more belt styles that you can try. Leaving a few buttons undone creates a V-neckline effect that adds to the flattering effect.

Boden Rosie linen shirt

The patterns on the misook shirt (below) also help confuse the eye, which can be another effective technique to hide the tummy.

Misook Brushstroke Belted Crepe De Chine Shirt

5. Dresses that hide a tummy bulge – Choose dresses that are form fitting and/or have a draping element

Make sure your clothes don’t cling to your stomach. Dresses with a draped element around the stomach area often work.

Asymmetrical dresses also work well as they draw attention away from the stomach and create a vertical line.

Dresses that don’t fit and that also have patterns are also ideal for concealing the stomach area.

The dress underneath is draped just right to draw attention away from the stomach and create flattering vertical lines.

Adding a statement necklace at the top will further distract the eye from the stomach area as the eye will be drawn upwards.

6. Wear tops over your skirts and pants and don’t tuck them in

Tucking in draws attention to your (again, nonexistent) waistline, so better avoid that.

This is because when you tuck your shirt in, you draw a line across your stomach at the widest point.

Instead, leave your shirt outside of your skirt or pants.

However, be mindful of the overall balance and don’t let your top end at the fullest part of your hips, as this can also be unflattering.

A short blouse that falls loosely on the stomach will work very well for many women.

You’ll notice that my crop top (above) ends at my waist and draws attention there and not to my stomach area.

The asymmetrical hem and the fact that I’m only wearing a column of color underneath further enhances this look.

7. Flattering Clothing for Big Stomach – Avoid wearing clothing that is bulky in the stomach area

You don’t want to make this area even bigger with pockets or other embellishments.

However, a vertical, loose drape like this cardigan below might work as it stretches and does a good job of hiding.

8. What to Wear to Hide a Big Belly – Choose asymmetrical tops to hide your belly

Asymmetric tops create vertical and diagonal lines and break up your silhouette, making them great for hiding tummies.

You can also throw a poncho over your outfit, like the one from Amazon (below), which comes in a huge range of colors.

Great stores for asymmetric items include:

9. Wear pants that tuck in your stomach

The pants you wear can make a big difference in how big your stomach will appear.

Be careful not to buy pants that end in the middle of your stomach and create a huge bulge.

Instead, you should wear pants that have a higher waist and a hat that’s able to tuck in your stomach.

10. Use tops with prints

Prints are very effective at hiding tummies and you should definitely consider adding a few to your wardrobe.

If you combine a printed top with one of our tummy hiding tips above, no one will notice your tummy!

I also love this printed top from Foxcroft (below). It’s wonderful to wear on its own, doesn’t stick and can easily be combined with a jacket or cardigan.

11. Use shapewear

Shapewear like these shorts, which pull in the tummy, also hides the tummy very well, of course, but since I personally find it uncomfortable, I only wear them on very special occasions.

12. Highlight something else

When you’re thinking about how to hide your stomach, it’s easy to get so focused on it that you forget about everything else.

You may not be sure about your stomach, but what about the parts of your body that you like?

Could you show off some cleavage, accentuate your shoulders or show off your beautiful legs?

Georgette @grownandcurvywoman above (read her style interview here) looks incredible in her leopard print dress that shows off her cleavage and ankles.

Recreate her outfit with this similar dress, sandals, handbag, sunglasses and earrings.

The top underneath, for example, emphasizes the shoulders and draws attention away from the stomach.

Loveapella off the shoulder top

If you like your legs, you could put the focus there instead of your stomach. This doesn’t mean you’re wearing a mini skirt, but you could wear a pair of pretty printed jeans to show off your legs and a sheer top to draw attention to your legs rather than your stomach.

Arolina Stretchy Wide Leg Palazzo Lounge

Instead of pulling the eye up, you could pull it down (or of course you could do both). A pair of bright shoes or trendy ankle boots will draw attention to your feet and legs rather than your stomach.

It’s about hiding what you don’t like and drawing attention to what you like.

13. Think about where your sleeves end

When you’re thinking of hiding a tummy, you’re probably focusing on whether your top or dress falls over your stomach area or whether it’s flattering.

Don’t forget your sleeves, though. If your sleeves end right where your stomach is at its widest, draw attention to that area only.

Instead, look for sleeves that hit above your stomach or below your hips. The right sleeve length for you depends on your arm length and where your stomach is largest.

14. Choose flattering brands

It goes without saying that some stores and brands focus more on women with supermodel figures, while others design more for women who want to skim certain body parts.

Some of my favorite brands that make clothes to hide a tummy are.

Stella Carakasi Reversible quilted cardigan

15. Use accessories to hide your tummy

I’m not suggesting you carry a handbag in front of your stomach to hide it! However, accessories can be a great tool to hide or distract from your tummy.

For example, you could wear a colorful scarf to draw attention upwards to your face. Or you can leave your scarf loose so it drapes down and creates a column effect to camouflage your tummy. Statement necklaces are another great way to draw attention upwards.

Montana West Leather Hobo – ASDSSRY Women’s Genuine Leather Wrist Clutch – Lanzom Wide Brim Straw Panama – Karine Sultan Alice Statement Necklace – BOCAR Pearl Statement Necklace – Karine Sultan Double Hoop Earrings

You can also draw the eye up with your earrings or a stylish hat.

When it comes to your handbags, think about where they sit when you carry them. For example, if you have a shoulder bag that ends at the belly, that will draw attention there.

Choose a bag that sits higher or lower, or a hand-carry bag to draw attention to your beautiful legs. Do not go for a bag that is too small as this will look disproportionate.

Summer is just around the corner!!! But are you one of the many women who dread summer wear because you find it difficult to find summer styles that suit your ample bosom? How to style a large bust is a question I get asked a lot. So I thought I’d dedicate a blog post to the topic, especially as the average bra size in the UK is now 36DD but mainstream fashion still ignores big boobs.

During the hot summer months, looking cool and chic can be a challenge if you’re blessed in the chest department. You can’t just throw on a strapless, flowy dress and go braless.

I totally get it. In my early twenties I had huge breasts. The contraceptive pill had bloated her to a size that was completely disproportionate to my stature. I was so conscious of looking frankly busty that I did everything I could to hide it. M&S “minimiser” bras were my first choice and I used to even wear them with a bandeau top (in addition to the minimiser!!!)

Looking back, I’m sad that I didn’t have the confidence to enjoy my curvier silhouette. Armed with more understanding and knowledge of shapes, I now know that the key to flattering a larger bust is to create good balance and proportion. In fact, it’s easier when the clothes are more structured and covered in winter, but there are so many current summer styles that women with big breasts can wear and look amazing in.

Here are my top 10 summer styles that accommodate and flatter a large bust:

1. Wide straps

It goes without saying that a supportive bra is absolutely essential if you have large breasts, but the more support you need, the wider the bra straps. So while dresses with spaghetti straps are taboo, there are plenty of sundresses with wide straps that hide bra straps. This JD Williams dress is ideal; The vertical stripes and V-neck are both flattering elements for a larger bust, plus it has a gathered waist and a tiered full skirt that balances the upper body.

2. Gathered bodice

This ruched gown by Boden will split the opinions of big breasted women… For some, the stretchy, ruched detail will be too much of an emphasis, while others will love the emphasis and support it provides. The A-line shape of the dress provides a nice element of balance for a large bust.

3. Button down dresses/jumpsuits

Also these styles tend to have nice wide bra-concealing straps and the vertical row of buttons lengthens. The V-neckline of this Free People jumpsuit is flattering as it reduces the visual volume of the bust. The defined pleat at the bodice provides structure for a fuller bust and the overall shape creates a beautiful hourglass silhouette.

4. Square or sweetheart necks

These are the most flattering shapes for larger busts. Not as revealing as a V-neck, a horizontal or sweetheart shape shows a modest cleavage and the angular lines flatter a curvaceous bust by adding structure. If you have great legs – show them off! This Mango square neckline dress is perfect for you!

5. Ruffled Skirts/ Wide Leg Pants

A styling trick to distract the eye from a large bust is to wear something noticeable on the lower half of the body. A ruffled skirt is ideal for this technique. Wide palazzo pants work too, like these below from Phase Eight. Keep the top half very simple (e.g. a V-neck top) so the focus is completely away from the chest.

6. V-necks

V-necklines elongate the torso and offer a narrow focal point on a curvaceous chest. The exposure of the collarbone and the décolleté directs the gaze upwards from the chest. Linen jersey T-shirt from H&M

7. Wrap dresses

A wrap dress is always said to be a busty woman’s best friend…which is largely true, but there are exceptions to this rule. A wrap style may not be flattering if it doesn’t fully cover a large bust, but instead creates and emphasizes cleavage—which is fine if that’s what you want to achieve. If less va-va-vum is your thing, look for loose wrap styles with fluted or kimono sleeves like this Traffic People dress.

8. Kimonos

A loose kimono is the perfect cooling layer when it’s hot and ideal coverage if you have a large bust. You can wear your favorite cami top underneath and never worry about your bra straps being exposed. They’re a versatile piece and – like Mint Velvet’s kimono – work as a funky throw over denim, but they’re also great for covering up at the beach. Choosing a longer line kimono will elongate your silhouette.

9. Bardot style

An off-the-shoulder style brings the focus to the shoulders and away from the bust. Look out for bardot styles that have a large layer of ruffles as it completely conceals the bust, like this dress from Monsoon. Wear a necklace or statement earrings to draw the eye further up.

10. Fine Print

A small, vibrant print confuses the eye and is much more flattering for a large bust than a bold print. Bold shapes draw the eye to focus directly on the large shapes. Ditsy florals and leopard prints are ideal. This jumpsuit from M&S X Ghost is just the thing, with a wrap front and flattering wide legs.

I hope this post proved that you can wear a lot of the current summer trends even with big breasts. Remember – this is just a guide. Depending on your proportions, you may feel that some of these options don’t work for you. Whether you want to cover up or accentuate, it’s important that you do it on your own terms and wear what makes you feel good!

Alice Fawke Designing clothing for bigger busted women

I created my Alice Fawke collection to offer clothing specifically for women with fuller breasts.

My design mission is to create versatile pieces that a woman can wear anywhere and feel empowered, chic and comfortable.

I’m particularly interested in the cut and shape of clothes because I believe these are the crucial elements in making you feel and look your best. I also love finding fabrics and colors that are extra flattering.

Being a UK size 10 and a 32FF bust I find it very difficult to shop for dresses, tops and jackets. I usually have to size up to fit my bust, which compromises the all-important cut and shape and makes the garment unflattering everywhere else. I also find the lack of variety that works with my form frustrating. Over the years I’ve developed strong ideas and opinions on how to solve this problem, culminating in the launch of my own collection focused on perfectly tailored clothing for larger busted women like me who want to feel elegant, flattered and comfortable. free, and that dressing her beautiful torso is finally a pleasure, not a chore.
