On the kid’s device, go to Settings->Screen Time and try to change something. It should ask for a passcode. Makes it? If it doesn’t, then you haven’t set a Screen Time passcode.

Make sure the button under the restriction categories says “Change Screen Time Passcode” and not “Set Screen Time Passcode”.

When an app reaches the allotted amount of time, a notification should appear with an option to request another minute. This is only possible once. After that, the game will be closed and blacked out and no longer available.

Also note that the allotted time does not indicate a specific time of day. So as long as they still have time in the app, they can use it at any time of the day except when the iPhone is asleep.

Additionally, unless they actually know the Screen Time passcode, there shouldn’t be a way to spend more time using the app. The Screen Time passcode should be different from the one used to unlock the actual iPhone.

Request to Buy is a Family Sharing feature that allows you to review and approve your child’s requested downloads and purchases, including in-app purchases, from the App Store or otherwise through iTunes. Ask to Buy is automatically enabled for all users under the age of 13 (or equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction) who are added to a family. If you turn off Ask to Buy for your child, you will receive information about purchases, including in-app purchases, only through the App Store or otherwise through iTunes in the email receipt (sent 24-72 hours after purchase) or on your credit card statement.

Note that apps purchased through our volume purchase plan, re-downloaded, or downloaded with a redemption code may not be subject to the purchase request limits.

Create your child’s Apple ID

In order to create an Apple ID for your child, we must first obtain your consent to this Family Privacy Policy for Children (“Disclosure”) and Apple’s Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference. In the event of any conflict between Apple’s Privacy Policy and this disclosure, the terms of this disclosure will control.

To comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws in other jurisdictions that may govern the online collection of information from children, Apple may take additional steps to verify that the user gives permission to create the Apple -ID of a child is a parent or legal guardian. Accordingly, in these jurisdictions you may be asked to verify your current iTunes, iCloud or Apple Store payment method. However, your child’s account can’t be removed from your family unless their Apple ID is deleted, they turn 13 (or the equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction), or you transfer them to a different family. As part of creating an Apple ID for your child, we will ask you to provide information needed to create an account, including your child’s full name, date of birth, a password, answers to three security questions, a phone number, and a country of residence.

We may collect other information from your child, which in some cases has been defined as personal information under COPPA. For example, if your child is signed in with their Apple ID, we may collect things like device identifiers, cookies, IP addresses, and the geographic locations and time zones in which their Apple device is being used. We may also collect information about your child’s activities and interactions on our websites, apps, products and services, including content provided by third-party developers.

Use of Information

As set forth in Apple’s Privacy Policy, Apple may use your child’s information to deliver important communications and information, product and service information and notifications, to provide services and content, and to improve our products, content and services. We may also use your information for internal purposes such as audits, data analysis and research.

We may use, transfer, and disclose Non-Personally Identifiable Information (information that does not, by itself, directly identify your child) for any purpose. For example, we may aggregate and use information about customer activity on our website, iCloud services, and the iTunes Store, as well as from our other products and services, to help us provide more useful information to our customers and to understand which parts of our website, products, and Services are of paramount interest. Aggregated data is considered non-personal data.

The Personalized Ads setting is turned off and can’t be turned on for a child’s Apple ID. Your child will not receive interest-based ads from Apple’s advertising platform on devices associated with a child’s Apple ID. However, your child may still receive non-targeted (i.e. contextual) advertising on these devices. Also, the “Allow apps to track” setting will be disabled and cannot be enabled. Apps and advertisers are prohibited from accessing the advertising identifier provided by the operating system and are also responsible for complying with Apple’s policies prohibiting them from providing targeted advertising or ad measurement or sharing information with data brokers.

Transfer to third parties

Using their Apple ID, and subject to your restrictions, your child may share information with others depending on the Apple features and services (such as those described above) that they use.

Family Sharing allows your child’s information, including past and future purchases from the App Store or iTunes, to be shared with members of your family. Depending on the restrictions you set, your child can also share their information with members of your family through iCloud Photo Sharing, shared calendars and reminders, Find My, and location sharing.

If your child uses their Apple ID to sign in on a device owned by a third party (such as a friend’s or school’s iPad), your child’s information, as well as information shared by other members of your family, may be downloaded and visible to others using that device, unless your child’s Apple ID is signed out of that device.

Strategic Partners

From time to time, Apple may make certain personal information available to strategic partners who work with Apple to provide products and services, or who help Apple market to customers. Apple only shares your child’s personal information to provide or improve our products and services; they are not passed on to third parties for marketing purposes.

We may also disclose personal information about you or your child if we determine that disclosure is reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Service or to protect our operations or our users. In addition, in the event of a reorganization, merger or sale, we may transfer any Personal Information we have collected to the appropriate third party.

First, tap Settings > iTunes & App Store and confirm the Apple ID used there. Then use that Apple ID to sign in to the Manage Your Apple ID page. Make sure your date of birth is correct.

The Ask to Buy feature is part of Family Sharing. The family organizer can disable it with these steps:

Enable Request to Buy The family organizer can enable Request to Buy for any family member who is under the age of majority. It’s on by default for all children under 13, and you’ll be prompted to set up Ask to Buy if you invite anyone under 18 to your family group.* Use these steps to turn Ask to Buy on or off for family members under 18 * in your family group. If you turn off Ask to Buy for a family member after they turn 18*, you won’t be able to turn them back on. iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Tap Settings > iCloud > Family, then tap your family member’s name. Tap Purchase request. Mac Select Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud. Click Manage Family and select your family member’s name. Select Purchase Request. If you created your child’s account with the student Apple ID, you can use Ask to Buy for personal purchases outside of school. It does not apply to apps or other content distributed by the school.

You can reset your device to factory settings using recovery mode. Depending on the device, the key combination to enter recovery mode may be different. Just search for something like “[insert phone model here] recovery mode” or whatever. Once you figure out the combination, when you turn on the phone, you need to hold down the keys that are presented to you. Now look for “wipe data/factory reset” on the black screen with lots of text. Use the volume buttons on the side of your device to move the highlight (colored area) to this option. Then, as before, use the volume buttons to select Yes. Your device will reset and you can set it up like new.

If your Apple ID is being used to share purchases with a family group that you no longer want to belong to, you can go to your Apple ID account page and remove the account from the family directly. Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID and password for the account you want to remove.

In the Family Sharing area:

On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, sign in to appleid.apple.com with your Apple ID and password. On your iPhone or iPod touch, tap the down arrow at the top of the page, then tap Family Sharing. On your iPad or Mac, click Family Sharing on the left side of the page. Tap or click Disconnect account Tap or click Disconnect.

After you leave the family group, you can start your own family group or join another one.
