The colors available as palettes are controlled by the home screen background image.

If you write a lot of text, the default ugly green background is repetitive and annoying.

Changing the background color of the speech bubble to something more pleasing can make your texts less annoying to read. Pleasant even.

Method 1. Customize the chat room

The chat room can be customized to have a different background color scheme and different bubble colors as well.

You can even post pictures of friends and family to further personalize your chat rooms on Android.

Step 1 Change chat room background on Android

Open any chat room with text messages. Tap on the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen. Select “Customize Chat Room” from the drop-down menu. A series of colors shows what you can select for individual (or all) chat rooms. Tap the round color buttons to see what it will look like. The preview window remains visible.

If you want to set a custom photo from your media gallery as wallpaper, click the first button to load your gallery.

Step 2Change the opacity of the text bubbles (or enable and disable text bubbles in Android)

Once you’ve chosen a background color or image, you’ll see a slider at the bottom of the screen that you can use to adjust the “bubble opacity.”

The bubble opacity slider controls the hue of the text bubble behind the text message.

Sliding this to the lowest setting will turn off the bubble.

If you move the slider to the right, the preview above shows what the result will look like when you return to the chat room.

Scroll down slightly and another slider will appear to adjust text contrast.

This setting controls the system text color. This is the contact name and the date and timestamps in Android text messages.

The color of the text in the text messages is controlled by the font settings. To change the font color on Android, only the color palettes do that, and even that has limited capabilities.

If you want to personalize your chat rooms, you can customize Android text messages to show different wallpaper for different friends and family by choosing an image instead of a background color.

If you want to set the same scheme for all chat rooms, tap “Apply to all chat rooms” when done.

Otherwise, tap the back button in the top left to return to the chat room you customized. The changes will take effect.

If you don’t like any of the available colors, you can change the available colors by tweaking your entire color palette.

Method 2. Change Color Palette on Android

The background of text message bubbles in Android is controlled by the color palette.

These are based on the background or theme you set.

How to change bubble background color on Android…

Swipe up on your home screen. Go to the “Settings” menu (it will appear as a gear icon. If you don’t see it, type “Settings” in the search bar.) Select “Wallpaper and style”. Tap Color Palette. to one of the shown color palettes

On the left are the default colors. This is the color template that the Android operating system has chosen as the best match for your theme.

A series of three to four additional choices of alternative color palettes are displayed on the right to complement the colors of your wallpaper theme.

As you tap each palette, the area at the top of the screen previews the changes that will be applied. You can swipe to see which items are changing colors.

It’s mainly the buttons, bubbles, and wallpapers.

If you don’t like any of these background colors, you can also change the text message bubble color by changing the background image or theme.

Method 3. Change the wallpaper

To change your wallpaper, depending on your device, you may have an option to “Browse more wallpapers”. If this is not available on your device, you can set any photo as wallpaper.

How to Install a New Wallpaper from Samsung Store on Android (Easiest)

Depending on your device, you may or may not have a store to download new wallpapers.

On the “Wallpaper and style” settings screen, scroll down and see if there is a button that says “Discover more wallpapers”. Samsung devices have this. You will be taken to the Samsung Store. Different devices may not have this.

Some wallpapers are free, others you need to buy.

Tap “Discover more wallpapers” Tap the search icon in the top right Select a color from the color palette

The default list view of available wallpapers shows you “popular” wallpapers first.

Tap the drop-down arrow to sort the search results by New, Best Paid, or Best Free wallpapers.

Once you see a wallpaper you like, click Download.

On the next screen, set the wallpaper as the home screen and then set the color palette from the newly available options based on the background colors.

Therefore, first search using the color palette. No generic search term like Star Wars.

How to set a custom photo as your home screen on Android (a bit more involved)

This method should work for any Android device, with or without access to a wallpaper download store. You only need one picture.

Any photo can be set as the home screen.

The recommended image dimensions for Android wallpapers are 640 pixels wide and 960 high. Preferred file types are PNG or JPG.

These produce sharper images on Android than, for example, a 360 x 360 pixel photo.

A quick and easy way to get the best quality is to set the dimensions in Canva, upload your photo, and then fit it into the Canva template’s frame size dimensions.

Download it in JPG or PNG and then set it as wallpaper.

Once you have your image ready to set as your home screen,

Go to Settings”. Select “Background and style”. Tap “Gallery”. This will open the media folder. You can choose from recent files, favorites or videos saved on your phone. Select your picture and then press Done at the top right of the screen Choose whether you want to set the wallpaper as your home screen, lock screen, or both.

The home screen option applies color changes to the system settings. Choose this option to apply the colors of the image to your color palettes.

Once the background image is set, different colors are available in the color palette.

Now if you go to the Color Palette section, you can toggle between different color schemes.

Once you’ve decided on a color scheme that you like, tap the Set as Color Palette button. This will apply the color scheme to all your text messages.

If none of the colors shown in the color palette are appealing, you will need to change your wallpaper again.

Or at least edit the colors in the image.

It is possible to manipulate the colors displayed in Android’s color palettes

If you’re determined to use a custom photo but want control over the colors displayed in the palette, you can let your creativity run wild by using Canva to change the colors of an uploaded image.

The Android 12 update (Material You) includes a color extraction engine. This determines the colors available as palettes.

By changing the colors in the image that is set as the home screen wallpaper, different colors are extracted from the Android operating system.

These new ones will become your new color palette choices.

Change global settings

Open the Messages app. Tap More settings. Stop notifications from other apps: Tap Notifications. Disable all “Default Settings” notifications .

Turn off . Get notifications on your phone from Messages: Tap Notifications Turn on Incoming messages .

Change advanced settings

While texting your friends and family, you noticed some iPhone messages are blue or green.

When you send a text message to a friend, family member, or colleague using your iPhone, your text message may appear blue or green. The color indicates the method you used and sometimes the type of device you are sending to.

Blue background

If your text message has a blue background, it means your messaging took place through iMessage and that you sent or received your message to and from another iOS device.

iMessage

iMessage is a free messaging method available for all iOS devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and more. Developed by Apple, iMessage works for all Apple products and non-Apple devices. It also requires you to be signed in with your Apple ID. A person who has an iPhone but is not signed in with their Apple ID cannot access iMessage.

iMessage does not use the normal messaging data limits set by any telecom provider. iMessage is free and fast. It is convenient to use iMessage when communicating with another iPhone or iOS user.

There are no SMS tariffs for iMessage. iMessage can be sent over WiFi, so no cellular service is required. It can also be sent through your carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc.).

green background

A green background means that the message you sent or received was delivered via SMS through your wireless service provider. It also usually went to a non-iOS device like an Android or Windows phone.

Sometimes you can also send or receive green text messages on an iOS device. This happens when iMessage is disabled on any of the devices.

You can check if iMessage is turned on or off on your iPhone by going to your iPhone Settings (gear icon) and then Messages. Activate iMessage.

If you are color blind or have other vision problems, you can use color filters to help you distinguish between colors. Color filters can change the look of things like pictures and movies, so you might only want to use them when necessary.

Open the Settings app, then tap Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. You’ll see three color space examples to help you choose an option that suits your needs. Swipe left or right on the samples to find a filter that works best for you.

If you’re in a group message and aren’t receiving any more messages, make sure you haven’t left the conversation. Open Messages and tap the group message. If you see a message that says you left the conversation, you’ve either left the conversation or you’ve been removed from the group message. You can rejoin a group message only if someone in the group adds you.

To start a new group message:

Open Messages and tap the Compose button . Enter the phone numbers or email addresses of your contacts. Enter your message, then tap the Send button .

If you’re having other issues with a group message, you may need to delete the conversation and start a new one. To delete a group message:

Open Messages and find the conversation you want to delete. Swipe left on the conversation. Tap Delete.

If you delete a message, you cannot recover it. If you want to save parts of a message, take a screenshot. To save an attachment in a message, tap the Download button . The photo or image is saved to your Library in the Photos app.

Tap Text Color, then choose one of the following options:

A color or gradient to match the template: Tap Preset, swipe left or right to see all choices, then tap a color.

Any color: Tap Color, swipe up or down to see all choices, then tap a color. To preview text in different colors, touch and hold a color, then drag it across the grid. A color label is shown for each color previewed so you can reproduce an exact match. Release your finger to choose a color.

A color from elsewhere on the page: Tap , then tap any color outside of the selected text. To preview colors, touch and hold a color on the page, and then drag it over other colors on the page. Release your finger to choose a color.
