Breeders are particularly confused when a particular strain is offered under the same name by two or more seed banks: who has the original, whose are copies? The Bubblegum strain is one such controversial strain, with at least two seed banks offering their own versions, in this case Serious Seeds and T.H. Seeds (both based in Amsterdam), not to mention all the internet based criminal copycats here. So I decided to retrace the true roots of Bubble Gum. Questioning the above two breeders resulted in two consistent versions of Bubble Gum breeding history, giving good reasons for the existence of two high quality Bubble Gum strains: The original material was developed by a breeder in Indiana (USA) during the 80’s. In 1993, this guy gave Adam from T.H. three very different female Bubble Gum plants. Looks like Simon and Tony (the two split shortly after, with Simon founding Serious Seeds and Tony founding Sagarmatha Seeds) of Cerebral Seeds. This is how Bubble Gum came to the Netherlands in the hands of three breeders. And from that moment on, various new chapters in the Bubble Gum breeding history were written, its development branching out. But due to the dominant sativa content, it was clear that they would continue to expand during flowering. After four weeks of flowering, the buds started releasing a sweet, fruity scent that became more intense week by week and really reminded of fruity bubble gum. The buds grew into very compact, resinous heads that featured a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, allowing for easy harvest processing. After 58 and 61 days of flowering respectively, harvesting was not only easy but also rewarding as the two BG plants yielded 25 and 28 grams of finest sticky sinsemilla respectively. As expected, they continued to grow in height during flowering, eventually reaching 91 and 102cm respectively. But this contributed to the formation of long drawn, high yielding main colas.

The buds were pleasantly mild to smoke and retained some of that special fruitiness even after the drying process. No surprise that the high delivered a fairly potent sativa power dosage with euphoric tendencies, at least it will get you popping some fun fantasy bubbles in your head. However, the indica aspect is also noticeable and causes a certain degree of stoned as well. This beautiful mix of both sides of the spectrum makes Bubble Gum from Serious Seeds an attractive experience and has accordingly won several awards e.g. at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1994, 1995 and 1999.
