To connect a USB mouse or keyboard to your PS4, just connect it to the PS4’s USB port. You’ll find two USB ports on the front of your console. These are the same ports you use to charge your PS4 controllers. If it’s a wireless USB mouse or keyboard, connect the wireless dongle to the USB port instead. The method that I use is to run vnc server on the tablet and vnc viewer on the keyboard-laptop. Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
However, PlayStation requires a TV that you can’t move from place to place. However, if you have an old laptop that eats dust, you can use its LCD as a display for your PS4. Furthermore, there are different ways you can connect your PS4 to your laptop and I have explained some of the easiest and quickest ways in detail in the following paragraphs.
Use laptop as monitor for PS4
There is a common belief that you can directly connect a laptop to PS4 with an HDMI cable, but it is impossible to connect that way. This is because the HDMI ports on most laptops work in output mode, which is why nothing will happen if both are connected in this way. To easily connect laptop to PS4 as a monitor, below is a list of methods to try:
Note: Some laptops have both input and output HDMI ports
Connecting a laptop as a monitor for PS4 with a capture card
Capture cards are mainly used to efficiently deliver video streams to a PC, laptop or external monitor. To use a laptop LCD as a monitor for PS4, the capture card method is a very simple process as it only needs to connect some cables to the capture card of PS4 and laptop. Just follow the given steps to connect laptop to PS4 using capture card as a monitor:
Step 1: First connect the USB Type-A port of the capture card to the laptop with the provided cable. Each capture card comes with software that you need to install.
Step 2: Next, turn on file sharing in the PS4 settings menu to allow PS4 to detect your laptop when connected to the same network.
Step 3: After that, connect the HDMI output pin of the PlayStation 4 to the HDMI input pin of the capture card with the provided HDMI cable.
Step 4: Now run the capture card software on your laptop and you will see the display of PlayStation 4 on your laptop screen.
There are a variety of capture cards on the market, but not all offer good display quality, so check out this capture card if you’re looking for the best one.
To further explain, I have provided the following image showing the cable connections for connecting the capture card to both the laptop and the PS4:
Connecting a laptop as a monitor for PS4 using the PS Remote Play app
Another easy way to use a laptop as a monitor with PS4 is by using a PS Remote Play application provided by Sony. All you need is to download it from the official PS4 website by clicking here and carefully follow the steps below:
Step 1: After opening the link given above, go to the “Control PS4 from a Windows PC” option:
Then click “Install App”, agree to the terms of use and click “Download” to start downloading the application:
Step 2: After installing Remote Play application “Allow Remote Play Connection” from PS4 console.
Step 3: Next, go to your PS4 account settings and set your account as “Active as primary” and then check for console updates and update the software.
Step 4: Now check the option “Enable PS4 to turn on over the network” in the “Set features available in rest mode” option and make sure that both the laptop and the PS4 are connected to the same network.
Step 5: Next, open your PS Remote Play application on the laptop and log in with the same account you used on the PlayStation 4:
Next, the application will automatically detect your account and set up the display of PS4 on the laptop. Now connect the controller to the laptop and start using the PlayStation 4.
Points to keep in mind while using the PS4 remote play application
There are some limitations when using the Remote Play application and these limitations are:
Some of the games may not support remote play
Virtual reality mode does not work with remote play
You cannot play music on Spotify while using Remote Play
Remote Play does not allow you to share the screen or broadcast your gameplay
Conclusion
PS4 is one of the most popular gaming consoles among gaming enthusiasts as it is built for gaming. However, you have to buy a TV for PS4, but if you have an old laptop whose LCD works well, you can use it as a PS4 monitor permanently. Therefore, I have explained the two best possible ways that a laptop can be used as a monitor for PS4.

Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
Now you may be asking yourself the following questions: “Is it true? Can I use my laptop as a monitor for my PS4?” And the short answer to your query is yes, you can! In addition, you may think that a simple plug and play solution will make your idea a reality. After all, both your laptop and PS4 have HDMI ports. Right? Unfortunately you are looking at an output HDMI function, not an input. That means you’ll need some muscle power to make your laptop work as a PS4 monitor.
With that in mind, there is no need to worry! Setup only takes a few minutes and we’re here to guide you through the process. So let’s dive straight into the options available.
Note: If you’re lucky enough to own a PS5, we have a guide on how to connect your PS5 to a laptop.
Using Remote Play to play PS4 on a laptop
The good folks at Sony made sure to meet every gamer’s portability needs by creating a streaming service called Remote Play. If you want to use your laptop as a monitor for PS4, this should be your first choice. Finally, you don’t need to install any third-party applications to get the show on the road.
Before proceeding, here is a quick overview of what you need:
A stable internet connection
A working laptop that can handle the load
Any PS4 model
A PlayStation Network account
A USB cable or DUALSHOCK 4 wireless USB adapter
When you’re ready to go, take a crash course in using your laptop monitor to play PS4 via
Remote Play is next!
While we have no intention of nagging anyone, you really should take care to keep your PS4 firmware up to date. If you’re behind on system updates for some reason, navigate through the settings and make sure you’re running version 3.50 or later.
If you happen to have multiple PS4s, you’ll need to set one of them as the primary console. You’ll find said option nested under Account Management in your PlayStation Network settings.
★ Second step: download and activate
Once you’re done with the potential system updates on your PS4, download and install the Remote Play app on your laptop. After that, go back to your PS4 and make sure Remote Play is enabled in Settings. Remember that your PS4 must be in rest mode with “Enable Turning on PS4 from Network” enabled in order to display the content on your laptop monitor.
★ Third step: Adjust the app settings
Depending on your broadband package, laptop, and PS4 model, you can tweak certain settings in the Remote Play app to ensure optimal performance. For example, with a PS4 Pro paired with a powerful rig, you can be running at 60 FPS and in Full HD in no time. We also have a guide on how to connect your PS4 to 5GHz WiFi for better performance.
★ Fourth step: Connect the controller
You can connect the DUALSHOCK 4 controller to your laptop using a USB cable or wireless adapter. Once paired, you’re just one step away from playing PS4 on your laptop.
★ Step Five: PlayStation Network & Chill
Run the Remote Play app again on your laptop and connect to the PlayStation Network using your credentials. Last but not least – enjoy playing your PS4 on the laptop monitor!
Using a Video Capture Card to play PS4 on a laptop
The second method on our list is for all the rock ‘n’ rollers and old-schoolers itching to use external doohickeys. Hey, we don’t judge! In fact, we admit that video capture cards (VCC) can be a more reliable option. Additionally, they are great for recording and sharing your gameplay with the world on any of the streaming platforms.
To use this method you need:
A video capture card
One HDMI cable with two functions
An Ethernet or wireless Internet connection
A working laptop that can handle the load
Any PS4 model with the file sharing option enabled
Ready? Sentence? Alright, here is a quick step-by-step guide on how to play PS4 on laptop via video capture card!
★ First Step: Broadband Setup
File sharing works over broadband. This is why your PS4 needs to be online. If you’re not using a wireless connection, you’ll need to make sure that both your laptop and PS4 are connected to the router with physical cables.
★ Step Two: Set up the video capture card
Install the software that came with your video capture card by connecting the device to your laptop via a USB port. In general, VCCs that support USB 3.0 are less prone to lag and have recording resolution set to Full HD. So if you can manage to get a good quality VCC at a reasonable price, make sure it’s from a reputable source.
When done, connect your PS4 to the video capture card with an S-Video cable. Then use your dual purpose HDMI cable to connect the HDMI output to your PS4 and the HDMI input to the video capture card. Although some VCCs may vary, a general rule of thumb is that you need either one or two HDMI cables for them to work.
★ Third Step: Run the software and cool down
Power on your PS4 and watch the magic happen on your laptop monitor while your VCC software runs as it does what it does best. Feel free to poke around the program and tweak some settings to optimize performance for best results.

A parting tip to avoid premature laptop blues
Now that you know how to use a laptop monitor to game your PS4, let’s remind you of something else. Other than that, it has nothing to do with how to play PS4 on a laptop per se. Still, it affects your beloved rig.
We’re sure your portable rig will be grateful you’re finally laying your eyes on it. But what good is an owner who doesn’t care about the well-being of his pets? So listen to us for a hot minute.
While the load on your laptop may not be visible to the naked eye when used as an external monitor to stream your PS4 gaming sessions, it is there. Because of this, you should invest in a good cooler to avoid having your rig’s internal components dodge on you. Also, try not to play for hours without a break. Not only is it bad for your laptop, it’s also bad for your overall health.
What if you want to connect more than 1 monitor? What if 2 isn’t enough? Then check out our guide on how to connect 3 monitors to your laptop. It’s a triple threat!
Ultimately, we hope you will have a great time using either an HDMI connection or Remote Play to play PS4 on your laptop. We would give you a platinum trophy if you go the extra mile and do the necessary research, but that would be against the rules of the game!
Can I use a laptop as just a keyboard?
The only way to use a laptop as a display/keyboard for a PC located elsewhere is to use remote desktop software of some sort, which means incurring video encoding and decoding latency. If you want to avoid that, your other option would be to use a KVM range extender which cost anywhere from $100 to $1500.
Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
The reason for this is that I would like to have a desktop PC, but it is not practical to put in my living space, nor would it be comfortable.
I know there are threads out there about using a laptop as a second monitor (via network programs) that I may have to settle for, but after looking around here and youtube for about 2 hours I’m confused about this what is possible and what is not.
Anyway to do this? Thanks very much!
Can I connect laptop keyboard to phone?
You can connect a USB Keyboard to an Android device via a USB OTG (On-The-Go) adapter, provided that your device is USB OTG-supported. If you bought your Android devices in the last 3 years, chances are, it will support using USB OTG. However, if you are unsure, you can confirm it with this app – Easy OTG Checker.
Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
Yes, you can connect a full-size physical keyboard to your Android device, and in this post, I’ll show you three different ways you can do just that. let’s check it out
1. Connect the USB keyboard to the Android device
You can connect a USB keyboard to an Android device using a USB OTG (On-The-Go) adapter, provided your device supports USB OTG. If you bought your Android devices in the last 3 years, it will probably support using USB OTG.
However, if you are not sure, you can use this app to confirm it – Easy OTG Checker. This app automatically detects the required USB OTG hardware and software API.
Alternatively, you can also purchase the USB OTG adapter online for as little as $5. I would recommend UGREEN Micro USB and Ksmile USB Host.
Proceed as follows with the USB OTG:
Connect the keyboard to the USB port and your phone to the micro USB port. The keyboard connects automatically the way it connects to your PC. Open any app and start typing on the keyboard and the text will appear.
Once connected successfully, you can use all the keys (Page Up, Page Down, etc.) and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + A) as you like.

2. Connect Bluetooth keyboard to Android
A Bluetooth keyboard can also be connected to your Android phone, more convenient and easier to set up. That’s how it’s done:
Turn on Bluetooth on both devices. From the list of nearby Bluetooth devices, select the keyboard. If prompted, enter a PIN code. Usually it is “0000”. The keyboard is connected and you can start typing.
3. Connect PC keyboard to Android (WiFi)
With an app, you can connect your PC and Android phone via Wi-Fi and transfer text from PC to phone. This method is probably good when you need to type some lengthy text on your phone.
I recommend the WiFi keyboard app for this, which allows you to transmit text through a browser window. After installation, you need to set it as the default input method.
Go to Settings and tap Language & input. Tap the Current keyboard option and then tap Choose a keyboard. Activate the WiFi keyboard here. Tap on the Current Keyboard option again and select WiFi Keyboard. Now open the WiFi keyboard app and you will see two addresses (which you can also access from the notification bar). You can type any of these addresses into your PC’s browser window to open the WiFi keyboard’s web interface.
Everything you type in the text field of the web interface will be displayed on your phone. In my tests, input was very responsive, but there’s no text preview. So you need to preview the input on your phone.
Tip: Make sure you unplug the keyboard after use as it drains the phone battery faster (no matter which method you use).
closing words
If you have a Bluetooth keyboard, connecting to your Android device is not a problem. However, connecting via Wi-Fi is a great option if you don’t want to spend extra money. Just let me know which method worked for you in the comments section below.

Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
Sometimes it feels like we can’t live without our controllers. It’s like they’ve become an extension of ourselves and it’s hard to imagine not playing video games with them. But what happens when the battery runs out? Or lose your controller? Luckily, there are many different ways to use your PS4 without a controller.
You can use your PS4 through the official PlayStation app, available on both Android and Apple devices. You can also connect a keyboard or mouse to operate the PlayStation and even play games. However, not all PS4 games are compatible with a keyboard and mouse setup.
What can I use instead of a PS4 controller?
The PlayStation 4 is one of the most popular gaming consoles out there. And luckily, there are several ways you can enjoy it, even without using a PlayStation controller.
This feature of PS4 can come to your rescue when you suddenly find the controller not working. Or using a different setup can help you in certain games and make the navigation process all the more convenient.
So here are some alternative ways to control a PS4 system.
Connect to a smartphone
Navigating the PlayStation menu with the typical controller can be a tedious task. Luckily, Sony itself has released an app that allows you to connect your smartphones directly to the console.
All you have to do is simply download the Playstation app on your phone and then pair it with the PlayStation. If you’re using a phone, it’s much easier to type the content you’re looking for. In addition, the app can turn your phone into a temporary remote control for the console.
Use a keyboard
Some PS4 titles work better with the keyboard than the hand controllers. A keyboard allows you to move more precisely and comfortably.
And with a PS4, you can connect pretty much any keyboard and use it just like you would a computer.
Try using a mouse
Similar to keyboards, you can connect a mouse to the console and control it that way. Once again, you would use the mouse the way you have always used it.
Check out how to connect each device below.
Can I use my phone as a PS4 controller?
You can use any Android smartphone or iPhone to control your PS4. You can use it as a keyboard or remote control. Some of the PS4 games allow you to play them through smartphones. But most don’t.
To connect your PlayStation to any smartphone of your choice:
Download the app
Just search for the official PlayStation app. For Android users, go to the Google Play Store. Apple users need to download it from Apple Store.
Note that this app is not available in every region. And the app doesn’t allow you to play every game on the console. You also need a PlayStation Network or PSN account for this to work.
Open the app
Once the download process is complete, open the app on your phone. The app will prompt you to sign in. Just enter the username and password you have for your PlayStation Network account and you’re good to go.
Pair the devices
In order for the devices to pair properly, both the PS4 and your smartphone must be on the same network.
From the app’s main menu, tap the Connect to PS4 icon. Then select the “Second Screen” option. Assuming both devices are on the same network, the app should be able to find your PS4. If this is the case, you will be presented with the name of your console. Tap the device to pair it. Now go to the settings menu of your PlayStation. Go to the “PlayStation App Connection Settings”. Next, select the “Add Device” option. Here your PS4 menu should show a code. Enter this code into the app and your phone will be registered with the PlayStation.
Now you can freely use your phone to control your PS4. You can return to the “PlayStation App Connection Settings” in the same way to add or remove devices in the future.
Alternatively, if you see the Playstation app in the App Store for your tablet, you can try pairing your tablet with the console.
Can you use a keyboard instead of a PS4 controller?
Similar to smartphones, you can turn your keyboard into a makeshift PS4 controller. This feature works with both wired and wireless keyboards.
If it’s wired, all you have to do is plug the keyboard into one of the USB ports on the console. If compatible (and most keyboards should be), the console will prompt you to choose a profile. Select the one you want and your keyboard will be paired with it.
If the keyboard is wireless, i. H. it runs over Bluetooth, so you need to connect it the same way you would connect any other Bluetooth device to a PlayStation. Here’s what you need to do:
Connecting a bluetooth keyboard to the PS4
First, go to the Settings menu on the PS4 home screen. Select “Device”. Go to “Bluetooth device”. The console starts searching for nearby Bluetooth devices. Put your keyboard in pairing mode. If it successfully detects your keyboard, its name will be displayed. Select it and the pairing process will begin. This may take a few seconds, after which you can freely use the keyboard to control the console.
You can also set some additional keyboard settings. Go back to the Settings menu and go to Device. Here you will see the option for “external keyboards”. You can set the keyboard type, keyboard repeat delay and rate. You can also remove any paired device by returning to the Bluetooth device menu.
Can you use a mouse with a PS4?
Yes, you can connect a mouse to your PS4. The process is exactly the same as with a keyboard.
If the mouse is wired, plug it into one of the free USB ports. If it’s a Bluetooth mouse, you’ll need to pair it with your console’s Bluetooth feature. Just follow the same steps as the Bluetooth keyboard and you’re good to go.
You can connect and use a keyboard and a mouse at the same time. In this way you can turn your PS4 into a kind of computer. Navigating the web and searching for content becomes much easier this way.
Please enable JavaScript. Can you use your phone when not connected?
Can you play games on PS4 with keyboard and mouse?
With a few notable exceptions, most PS4 games are not compatible with a keyboard and mouse setup. In theory, this should not be the case. You should be able to play all the games on the console with a keyboard since you can do pretty much everything else with it.
But unfortunately you have to use a DualShock 4 controller to be able to enjoy all the titles available on the PS4. When you try to play incompatible games with a keyboard, they just don’t respond.
This does not mean that you are completely unlucky. Some popular games support a keyboard and mouse setup. Titles like Final Fantasy 14, Smite, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online, War Thunder, etc. are all fully functional with a keyboard.
Many of these games have a huge online multiplayer platform. So it makes sense that these games would at least support keyboards. In fact, the keyboard and mouse setup in many of these games gives you more precision that you can’t find with the regular controller.
So the alternative can help you master the game even better.
You can easily find out whether a particular game is keyboard and mouse compatible or not by looking it up on the internet. Or you can just start the game and directly test if it works.
Conclusion
The PlayStation 4 is a versatile device that allows you to control it even without a specific controller. Unfortunately, most of the games on it don’t support this feature. Still, using a keyboard or smartphone can make navigating the console much easier.

If you use an HDMI to HDMI cable, your PS4 and laptop will try to output their display to the other, which obviously won’t work. The reason most laptops don’t have video input is because they’re not designed to be external displays.
However, if you have the necessary tools, you can create a dedicated video input for your laptop. Here are some of the necessary equipment to create a working video input that will allow you to connect your PS4 to your laptop via HDMI.

Connect Your PS4 to Laptop via Remote Play (Step by Step)
Remote Play is one of the ways you can enjoy your favorite PS4 games on your laptop. Remote Play is an app that allows you to stream your favorite PS4 games on your laptop or Mac device. You must be remotely connected to your PS4 for the feature to work.

1. Download the Remote Play app
The first step is to visit Sony’s official Remote Play website to download the latest compatible version for your laptop. If you have multiple PS4 consoles at home, skip to step 2, but you can skip it if you only have one like most people do.
2. Update and activate your PS4
If you have multiple PS4 devices at home, you need to set one of them as your favorite console. Using the primary console isn’t the best option if it’s far from your laptop setup.
To set a PS4 as the primary console, navigate to PlayStation Network Settings and select Account Management. Click the “Set as primary PS4” option to set the console you are currently using as your primary console.
To enable smooth performance, update your PS4 to the latest version of its firmware. This will ensure that you don’t have any problems since you are also using the latest version of Remote Play.
3. Activate the remote play option
Before you can play with Remote Play, you must first activate it on your PS4. Here are the steps required to enable remote play on your PS4.
Navigate to your PS4 settings.
Browse and select the Remote Play connection settings from the many options.

4. Turn on PS4 over network
Your laptop should be in sleep mode by default. If this is not the case, you can always adjust the settings. Go to the power saving settings and change the settings to put your computer to sleep. This mode saves power by not leaving the PS4 on unnecessarily when not in use.
At the same time, however, you want to be able to connect to your PS4 from your laptop when it’s in sleep mode. Check “Enable powering on the PS4 over the network” to enable this.
5. Get all settings right
Before playing on your laptop, there are a few changes you should make to give you an immersive gaming experience. The settings option in the top-left corner of the app allows you to set game-enhancing mechanisms like video resolution and frame rate.
Set the gaming resolution to 720p for the best experience. 720p offers the perfect balance between good quality and low internet consumption. Since your laptop is likely to be running on battery power, a 720p resolution will also help extend battery life.
For the frame rate, you should probably avoid going over 60fps. If you’re playing at the superfine 1080p resolution, you might not be able to hit that frame rate anyway.
6. Connect the controllers
You can connect the Dualshock 4 controllers to your laptop with a USB cable or a wired Dualshock to USB adapter. All you have to do is hold down the square and circle buttons on your controller until the light bar starts flashing.
After that, you can connect the other end of the cable to your laptop and wait for the controller to pair with your PC.
7. Search the network for your PS4
After completing all of the above steps, launch the Remote Play app on your laptop and log into your PlayStation Network. The app will automatically search for the first PS4 available on the network and take you straight to the home screen.
Congratulations, you can now enjoy your immersive PS4 gaming experience on your laptop. The Remote Play app on your laptop will automatically launch your PS4 and games will run on the PS4, which streams them to your laptop in real-time.
How to turn off your PS4 from your laptop
If you have already put your PS4 to sleep mode, you can press and hold the PlayStation button on your controller to turn off your PS4. If you’ve followed all of the steps above, your PS4 should already be in rest mode, but you can go back to set it if it isn’t already.

1. Install the required software and drivers
First, you should connect the video capture card to your laptop via a USB port. This will automatically install all the drivers you need to keep the card running smoothly. If there are instructions for additional software, try installing them for best performance.
It’s important to note that getting a cheap video capture card might work, but you’ll get potato-quality graphics in your games.
2. Connect the laptop and PS4 to the video capture card
To connect your laptop and PS4, you need an HDMI to HDMI cable along with your video capture card. You connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input of the capture card and the other end to the PS4.
Then plug the video capture card into a USB port on your laptop if you haven’t already and you should be good to go.
3. Run the software
The final step in getting your PS4 working with your laptop is to run the software that came with the video capture card. The application will scan and detect your PS4 and display it on your laptop screen.
In the app you can select the desired resolution. You should shoot at the highest possible resolution as this isn’t just the gaming resolution. Most capture cards are limited to 1080p, and that’s fine for playing PS4 games.

Can I use my laptop as a monitor for my PS4 via HDMI?
You may be wondering since your laptop has an HDMI port and your PS4 has an HDMI port, so you can easily connect your PlayStation to your laptop like you would an external display such as a TV. Unfortunately, it is not possible to connect the PS4 to a laptop using an HDMI cable.

Remove the back cover of your laptop and locate the HDMI connector ribbon connector converter. This ribbon connector can be used as a display input, however we recommend avoiding this as you could damage other connectors in the process.

To get this working, you need a fast and reliable internet connection. This is an excellent choice if you don’t own a gaming laptop or computer, as all graphics rendering and processing is done on the server side, with only the media and controls accessible to you.

If you are looking for an easy way to play your console games on a bigger screen or if you want to record and broadcast your gameplay, then these methods are perfect for you. Does my laptop have HDMI input?
The HDMI port in a laptop or on any device does not have a label for HDMI IN and HDMI OUT. So if you look at the HDMI port and cable, you won’t be able to tell which side is input and which is output. You can find out by reading the product manual or visiting the manufacturer’s website, or using it.
Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
It is one of the most widely used connectivity standards today and can be found in televisions, monitors, laptops and projectors. They are inherently bi-directional, meaning you can plug either end into an HDMI input or output.
However, bidirectional data transmission is not possible, since data can only be transmitted in one direction.
As a result, it is now necessary to understand which ports are input and output. Our Techroom will help you clear your doubts. And our goal today is primarily to help you determine if your laptop has an HDMI input or output.
This is what the HDMI port looks like on your laptop:
Cowardly. Laptop HDMI port
Before we begin, let’s better understand the input and output ports.
input port
When an electronic device has an input port, it always accepts data from input devices like keyboard, mouse, camera, etc.
exit port
When an electronic device has an output port, it always sends data to an output device such as a TV, monitor, printer, speaker, headphone, etc.
Now consider HDMI input and HDMI output.
HDMI output
HDMI output is an HDMI signal transmitter that sends the signal through an HDMI cable by connecting this cable to an HDMI target device. The HDMI output is for one end of an HDMI cable.
The HDMI output is commonly found on laptops. They transmit data to other devices such as projector, TV and monitor. You cannot receive input signal from other devices on your laptop, for example, you cannot watch movies on your laptop by sending data from other devices through HDMI cable and connector.
HDMI input
The HDMI input is a signal receiver that receives signals through HDMI cables. For example, monitors, televisions and projectors all have HDMI inputs (although they are not labeled) and receive audio/video signals sent by other devices such as laptops and PCs.
Most computers have an HDMI output, but an HDMI input is very rare.
How to find out if the HDMI port is input or output on the laptop?
The HDMI port in a laptop or other device does not have a label for HDMI IN and HDMI OUT. So if you look at the HDMI connector and cable, you can’t tell which side is input and which side is output. You can find out by reading the product manual or by visiting or using the manufacturer’s website.
In order to use HDMI, you need an HDMI input port and an HDMI output port, because one has to receive data and the other has to send data. It doesn’t work if you connect two output devices with one HDMI cable because there is no point in connecting two output devices. The same also happens when you connect two input devices with an HDMI cable.
Since the computer most often has an HDMI port as an output, it makes no sense and will not work if you connect two computers with one HDMI port.
How do I use the laptop’s HDMI output?
(Contains technical terms). First and foremost, the chip in the laptop encodes your audio and video signals into digital signals and uses Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) to prevent signal degradation as it travels down the cables. Signals are carried from your laptop to one of the HDMI twisted pair cables, while other wires carry a reverse copy of the transmitted signals.
As the signals arrive at receivers (e.g. monitors and televisions), HDMI measures the difference between them and uses the information to compensate for signal losses. In this way, HD quality is transmitted from an HDMI source device such as a laptop to a receiver such as a beamer, monitor or television. (Source)
Can I use the laptop as a monitor?
Most laptops have an HDMI output that sends signals from the laptop to other devices such as monitors and TVs to display audio and video from the laptop on the monitor and they are only designed that way.
However, some purpose-built laptops may also have an HDMI input. So if you have one, you can display audio/video signals sent to your laptop from an external device and use it as a monitor.
How to connect HDMI video to Windows?
We must remember that all video ports on typical PCs are strictly for displaying video (some might be exceptions).
There’s a greater chance you won’t find any video inputs (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, DVI) when you do some research.
How do I use HDMI to connect my camera to my laptop?
Answer: Both the laptop and the camera mostly have an output port, so you cannot use HDMI to connect your laptop to the camera.
You can display camera content (audio, video, photo) by connecting it to TVs and projectors as they have an HDMI input port.
What can we do with laptop HDMI output ports?
Some of the common use cases of laptop HDMI out ports are:
Connects your laptop to the TV screen.
If you don’t have a TV, connect your laptop to the decoder to view digital TV channels.
To watch HD movies, connect your laptop to a Blu-ray or HD DVD player.
Connect your laptop to the console to play HD games.
Connect your laptop to the camera to capture and record live HD video from the camera to your laptop.

How to connect a keyboard and mouse to your PS4
The steps for connecting a keyboard and mouse with USB cables are slightly different than connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth.
USB keyboard and mouse
To connect a wired controller and mouse to your PS4, simply plug them into one of the available front USB ports. If you do this, you can still use a standard PlayStation controller wirelessly.
When you connect the keyboard and mouse, your PS4 will ask which profile you want to use the device with – select the profile you want.
If you run out of free USB ports, the Playstation also supports USB hubs like the Anker USB 10-Port Hub, which lets you connect almost a dozen devices with just one port.
The PS4 supports USB hubs like the one pictured here. Amazon
Many keyboard manufacturers like Logitech also offer USB ports in their keyboards themselves, meaning you can connect your mouse to your keyboard and then the keyboard to the console.
Wireless keyboard and mouse
The Playstation also supports Bluetooth. While logged into a profile, go to the Settings menu, select Devices, then Bluetooth Devices. If your keyboard or mouse is in pairing mode, you should see the device waiting to be connected. If not, put it in pairing mode first.

How to connect your mouse and keyboard
You can use either a USB mouse and keyboard or a wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
To connect a USB mouse or keyboard to your PS4, simply plug it into the PS4’s USB port. There are two USB ports on the front of your console. These are the same ports you use to charge your PS4 controllers. If it’s a USB wireless mouse or keyboard, plug the wireless dongle into the USB port instead. Your PS4 will take a moment to recognize the device, but it should work after just a few seconds.

You can also connect a Bluetooth wireless mouse or keyboard to your PlayStation 4. Bluetooth is standardized, so any Bluetooth mouse or keyboard should work. You don’t need mice and keyboards that are only marketed for the PS4 or game consoles.
To connect your PS4 to a Bluetooth device, open the settings screen on your console, select “Devices” and then “Bluetooth Devices”. Put your mouse or keyboard in pairing mode and it will appear on this screen, ready for your PS4 to connect to it.
You can customize settings for connected mice and keyboards. To do this, open the Settings screen, select Devices, and then select either “External Keyboard” or “Mouse”. For keyboards, you can choose the keyboard type, the delay, and the repeat rate when the keys are held down. For mice, you can choose whether the mouse is right- or left-handed and choose a pointer speed.
You can now use your PS4’s mouse and keyboard to navigate the interface. This is especially handy in the PS4’s web browser app, as you get a mouse and keyboard that makes using the browser less of a chore. You can chat with your friends, browse Netflix and other media apps, enter WiFi passwords and other login credentials, and do other things that are tiresome without a mouse and keyboard.

How to play games with mouse and keyboard

This is where you may encounter problems. In theory, you can use the mouse and keyboard to play games. Nothing prevents developers from supporting mouse and keyboard controls in their games. In practice, however, most games do not support mouse and keyboard controls. You can start a game and try using the mouse and keyboard, but they usually don’t work. You’ll need to use the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller instead. You can remap the buttons on the controller, but you cannot remap the buttons on the keyboard to make it act as a controller.
Games don’t even work with a keyboard and mouse when you play them on your PC using Remote Play. You still need a DualShock 4 controller even when you’re at your PC.
Some games work, but that’s rare. The list is very short. The PlayStation 4 versions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and War Thunder both support mouse and keyboard, which makes sense as they are massively multiplayer online games where you also play with PC players using mouse and keyboard .
There is actually a way to play any PS4 game with a keyboard and mouse, but it will cost you. Products like the Xim 4 adapter work with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Connect a keyboard and mouse to it and the adapter translates your keyboard and mouse input into DualShock 4 button presses and sends them to your PS4 . So, with the adapter, you can play PS4 games like a PC game with keyboard and mouse. The adapter basically works by tricking the PS4 into thinking you’re using a DualShock 4 controller.
This option is quite expensive at $150, but it’s an option. You could try modifying a PS4 controller to accept mouse and keyboard input, but that’s a lot more work.
We haven’t tried the Xim 4 adapter ourselves, but it has excellent reviews. There are other similar adapters out there and you can find many on Amazon for less money, but the reviews seem to be a little luckier with these models. For example, this $50 alternative from MayFlash has more worrying reviews.
Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One support mice and keyboards, but these consoles are still designed for controller gaming. Even in single-player games where balance isn’t an issue, game developers haven’t bothered to support mouse and keyboard controls – although they could. While the PS4 supports mice and keyboards, you’ll need an adapter (or just a separate gaming PC) if you actually want to play most games with it.
Can I use my laptop as a Playstation 4 keyboard?

Using laptop keyboard as wireless bluetooth keyboard
Example 1: More like Synergy, but Synergy works over the Internet. I was thinking of something about Bluetooth.
Example 2: This was implemented in an Android app. But in the Android app, in addition to the app, there is a dedicated application for PC (Java).
However, regular Bluetooth keyboards don’t run any dedicated software, you can just use them out of the box.
So can’t we just use a laptop keyboard as a bluetooth keyboard?
PS: Everyone says buy a wireless keyboard; they are very cheap. But if software can do the job, then why buy hardware? Also, I want to check how well Bluetooth works on my old Nokia e63, so this is only of temporary use.
