Hamster less active than usual : hamstercare

I’m worried about my Syrian hamster. He is male and probably just over 1.5 years old. Recently he has started sleeping more and eating less. He doesn’t run on his bike. Although he still drinks a lot of water.

I don’t know if he’s partially hibernating or something as the temperature has gotten colder. However, it’s concerning because it felt abrupt. He’s been pretty active just last week.

Here is information about my hamster –

Age: 12 months

Gender Female

Type: Syriac

These are the details of my hamster’s illness –

I’ve noticed in the last few days that Paprika hasn’t used her bike, almost never, she’s sleeping quite a bit more and she seems to have lost a bit of weight [not so much to be alarming, but it’s a bit hers Hips easier to see/feel than usual]. I take care of her daily and she still likes to run on my arms and through my hands so I know her limbs aren’t bothering her and she’s not acting weird.

I cleaned her wheel to make sure there wasn’t a part interfering with her, but there was nothing [it’s an 11″ wodent wheel].

I sprinkle feed her Higgins Sunburst and put her dried mealworms, part-time vegetables, in a bowl and hand-feed her fruit once a week.

The treats she gets consist of walnuts/peanuts, hamster safe dog treats, and various hamster treats [usually carrot or alfalfa based]. She usually gets a little bit every other day [depending on the size of the treat, although I can skip two days].

I don’t think she’s eating less, unless she really has so much food in her den that I can’t see.

She has access to many chews and her teeth look even and well filed. Her stomach feels good [no lumps] and her butt looks good too.

She just turned 1 on June 21st, could she just be a little bit older? I’m only wondering that because her mood hasn’t changed at all. If anything, does she seem calmer? She will sit perfectly content on my shoulder for longer than before. She has also developed a penchant for head scratching. She also seems to have more bursts of energy where she lays around for a while, then scoots around, then lies around again, but not continuous energy like she used to.
