Wear one at a time

Keep it simple and only wear one jelly bracelet at a time. If you prefer a jelly bracelet with a charm (see Resources), it’s best worn when worn alone. Choose a color that complements your outfit, or choose a color that clashes to accentuate style.

Stack them

Madonna popularized jelly bracelets in the 1980s by wearing many of them (usually all black) on one arm (see Resources). Today you can mix colors, wear some jelly bracelets with charms and others without. Stack them as high up your arm as you like.

Join two (or four) to make one

Venn diagram

Connect two jelly bracelets to make a bracelet. Tying together is often referred to as snagging or twisting. Place two jelly bracelets on a hard surface with the right one slightly overlapping the left so it looks like a Venn diagram. Grasp the right side of the left bracelet and fold it over the left side of the right bracelet so that it touches the left side of the left (your) bracelet. Do the same with the other side. You now have a new hole in the center that you may need to stretch a bit to fit your hand through. You can also tie, hook, or rotate bracelets by overlapping four of them: two stacked on the left and two stacked on the right.

Join many to make one

Intertwine more than two jelly bracelets to make a bracelet or even a necklace. Just take two jelly bracelets and pinch each with your thumb and pointer. With your left hand, hold the bracelet up so that it looks like an O. Slide the bracelet you’re holding in your right hand over the O in your left hand – because jelly bracelets are so flexible, this is easy. Stop when the bracelet touches the middle of the O. Still holding the O in your left hand, reach behind the O with your right hand and grasp the front of the bracelet that sits in the center of the O; Pull the front of this bracelet through the O and away from it, forming a knot between the two bracelets. Add more bracelets if you like.

Beaded bracelets are easy to make. This double strand bracelet looks complex but follow the simple instructions to make it in no time. It’s a great project for all ages; My daughter helped me to do the rehearsal!

Double strand seed bead bracelet

materials

10 g each size 6/0 glass Opaque Rocailles: brick red, rainbow white

4 silver metal flower beads

19 inch 7 strand beading wire

2 silver plated 2.5mm round crimp beads (1.5mm inner diameter).

Silver plated jump rings: around 4mm, twisted around 10mm

9 mm silver plated spring ring clasp

wire cutter

Crimping pliers (or chain pliers)

Tape (optional)

1. Fold the 19 inch length of beading wire in half. Slide the larger (10mm) jump ring down into the center of the folded wire. Thread a crimp bead onto the ends of the folded wire, slide down to the jump ring. Using a crimping tool, attach the crimp bead to form the two strands for your bracelet.

2. Follow the beading patterns below to thread beads onto beading wire to create the desired size bracelet:

7 inch bracelet: 1 white, 3 red, 3 white, 3 red, 3 white, 3 red, 1 white, 1 flower, 1 red, 3 white, 3 red, 3 white, 3 red, 3 white, 1 red , 1 flower, 1 white, 3 red, 3 white, 3 red, 3 white, 3 red, 1 white.

8 inch bracelet: 1 white, 3 red, 4 white, 3 red, 4 white, 3 red, 1 white, 1 flower, 1 red, 4 white, 4 red, 4 white, 4 red, 4 white, 1 red , 1 flower, 1 white, 3 red, 4 white, 3 red, 4 white, 3 red, 1 white.

3. When you’re done with your first strand, place a piece of tape over the end before threading the second strand, if desired. This will prevent your beads from falling off while you thread your second strand. Measure the first strand to make sure you are happy with the length. Repeat step 2 to thread your second strand.

4. Thread a crimp bead onto both ends of the beading wire, followed by the small (4mm) jump ring. Thread the ends of the beading wire back through the crimp bead and secure with crimping pliers. Thread the ends of the beading wire through a few beads and clip the ends.

5. Carefully open the jump ring, slide open the clasp and close the jump ring.

6. Wear and enjoy!
