I-Tip method

Due to the time and special skills required, hand tied hair extensions are considered a luxury service. The total cost will vary depending on the salon, how many rows of extensions are needed (to achieve the desired volume) and the length the client wants to achieve. For initial installation, pricing typically starts between $200 and $250 per row plus the cost of the extensions themselves. There is an additional cost for color services.

When a customer comes for maintenance, they pay similar costs as for the initial installation. This is because the beads are not simply pushed up towards the roots like other methods do. During the reapplication process, the certified IBE® specialist completely removes the primer and weft yarns and then reapplies everything while maintaining the correct tension.

Sometimes stylists offer packages that generally cost between $1000 and $2500. These packages include extensions, installation, extension and natural hair coloring services, and a custom cut and styling.

Although IBE® Extensions are a definite investment, with proper care, the beautiful, voluminous, natural results last a long time. After installation, IBE® can be used between 6 and 12 months with regular maintenance.

Best tips for caring for hand tied hair extensions installed with the IBE® method

To keep hand tied hair extensions looking beautiful and luscious, care and maintenance are non-negotiable. Taking care of your extensions increases their longevity. Below are some guidelines for caring for your hand tied extensions:

Cleansing: Clean your hair regularly with a sulfate-free shampoo that’s safe for extensions. Be careful not to scrub the weft threads. Instead, you should wash your roots and then squeeze the suds through your extensions. Make sure to pair your shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner that you work through your mids and ends. Leave the conditioner on your hair for about 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Preparing Damp Hair: After cleansing, hand tied extensions hold a lot of water, so it’s imperative that you gently towel dry your hair after cleansing and conditioning. The best method is to gently press with a towel to dry up excess water. Then the hair can be allowed to air dry. Once the hair is about 80-90% dry, you can continue drying it with a blow dryer. Make sure the top of the wefts are completely dry.

Detangling and Brushing: It is imperative to brush your hair several times a day to prevent tangles and tangles. The best method is to work in sections, lifting rows of hair to ensure they don’t get tangled. You should also detangle from the ends to your roots and avoid brushing the applications near the scalp. It’s helpful to hold the base of your extensions with one hand against your head as you brush for support.

Use of Products: Because extensions are natural hair, they tend to get dry. It is important to keep your hair moisturized. Your hydration can be twofold. First, apply a light leave-in conditioner to make detangling a breeze and protect your delicate strands from damage. Next, use a clear serum or oil to condition both the ends of your extensions and your natural hair.

If your natural hair feels dry, don’t go for a protein-based product. Avoid protein treatments as not only are they necessary, but they also make the shots feel coarse and even more brittle.

Blow-dry: When blow-drying your extensions, it’s important to work row by row. You can use a paddle brush or a round brush to get the job done. Using this tool will help your extensions and your natural hair blend seamlessly into the drying process. Make sure each row is completely dry to avoid discomfort.

Heat Styling: Now that you have long, luscious locks, you also have a lot of amazing hair styling options! Those who love soft, romantic curls or waves will be happy to know that curls last longer in extensions. Before you reach for the curling iron, be sure to apply an effective heat protectant to your extensions and your natural hair. It’s also recommended that you use the lowest possible setting to achieve your results so your hair doesn’t get damaged or clouded by the heat.

Protecting Your Extensions: Apply about 3 to 4 pumps of hair oil or serum to the midshaft and ends of your hair each night before bed. To avoid tangles while you rest, brush the hair gently and braid it into a pigtail or two.

If you’re an avid swimmer, soak your hair in a nourishing conditioner or mask before hitting the water. Comb the product evenly through your hair and tie it in a bun or braid. Rinse your hair thoroughly after swimming.

Although hand tied hair extensions require daily maintenance, once you establish a routine, it becomes a breeze. The result of your extra effort will be beautiful, drool-worthy hair.
