Amazon Channels is starting to act like a TV provider. HBO tells TechCrunch that it rolled out a new feature on Wednesday that allows subscribers to HBO’s Amazon Channels to access the HBO NOW app.

According to the company, HBO NOW will allow Amazon customers to connect on desktop, iOS and Android mobile devices, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Kindle and Fire TV mobile devices, PlayStation 3 and 4, and Samsung Smart to register the TV. The feature will soon be rolling out to both Roku and Xbox 360, according to an HBO spokesperson.

Unfortunately, a similar feature isn’t available for HBO’s Cinemax app yet.

However, HBO isn’t the only network to offer support for an Amazon login. Showtime also has similar support in its Showtime Anytime app. (This is usually the app for pay TV users.) It’s been available since February.

The ability to use the network’s own app makes Amazon Channels more of a TV provider, but it wouldn’t be the first time a non-pay TV service has been given the ability to serve users with TV Anywhere-powered apps authenticate. Other streaming services like Sling TV and PlayStation Vue offer this support for a range of applications, including cable channels and broadcasters alike.
