If you’re not tagged in a story, you can still share it via direct messages on Instagram, or copy the link and share it externally via email, SMS, or another social platform.

How to share someone else’s story with your own

You can share someone else’s story with your own story if they’ve tagged you in it and their account is public. If their account is private, the story cannot be viewed by anyone who doesn’t follow the original poster.

To share another story with your own:

1. Open Instagram and tap the paper airplane icon on the top right corner of the screen.

As I mentioned above, businesses can repost content on Instagram to engage their followers and share on-brand content.

But what exactly should you share? We recommend sharing content that meets at least one of the following criteria:

The content is directly related to my brand

The content reflects my brand’s aesthetic

A customer tagged or mentioned my brand

My followers will find the content valuable

Here’s an example – Peloton’s apparel brand, @PeletonApparel, regularly shares posts from customers who wear their clothes – and they usually add a call to action, e.g. B. a link to their shop. It’s a great way to leverage user-generated content to engage a community and build brand advocates.

A word of caution here – when it comes to reposting user-generated content, brands should always ask users for permission before reposting content. Certain users value their privacy over others — and you never want to cross those boundaries.

Now let’s explain how to repost content on your Instagram Story.

How to share an Instagram story with My Story.

Your ability to repost someone else’s story depends on whether the original creator tagged you.

If the user hasn’t tagged you, you’re limited in what you can do. There is currently no feature that allows you to repost untagged stories. However, you can share it to another follower via Direct Messages.

If you’ve been tagged in a story, you can easily re-share it in your story by following the steps below:

2. Find and open the flag notification.

3. Tap Add to Your Story. From here, you can add your own text, filters, and stickers to the post — or continue to the next step.

4. Finally, tap on “Send”.

Once your post is live, viewers can see the original story along with any comments or stickers you may have added.

How to share an Instagram post to my story

You can share another user’s In-Feed post to your story in four quick steps:

1. Tap the airplane icon under the photo or video in your feed.

2. From the pop-up menu, tap “Add post/video to your story”.

3. Next, you can add text, filters, or stickers to the story — or continue to the next step.

4. Tap Send To, then tap Share.

Why can’t I share someone else’s Instagram story?

The main reason you can’t share someone else’s Instagram Story is because you’re not tagged in it.

Instagram only allows you to reshare a story if you’re tagged in it by the person who posted it. If you’re tagged, you’ll get a notification that someone mentioned you in their story. Once you open it, you will see the option to add to your story.

If you were mentioned in a story but there is no option to share, there may be an issue with the app. Fix possible causes like:

Your app won’t be updated – if you’re using an old version of Instagram, you may lose some of its features, including re-sharing Stories. Always make sure your app is up to date.

The story has expired – as you know, Instagram Stories last 24 hours. If the story has expired, you cannot open or repost it.

Community Guidelines Violation – If you have not followed Instagram’s community guidelines, the app may prevent you from sharing someone else’s story, even if you’re tagged in it. Contact Instagram support to try to resolve this issue.

A workaround

While Instagram doesn’t allow you to reshare someone’s story unless you’re tagged in it, there are ways to get around this. Try these options when you find a story you want to share.

First of all, you can always take a screenshot and share it in your story. Remember that Instagram doesn’t notify the user that you took a screenshot and reshared it unless you tag it in the story.

Third Party Apps

You can also use third-party apps that allow you to save stories and then share them. As you know, Instagram does not provide an option to save a story to your device. However, apps like Story Saver for Android and Instant Save for iPhone allow you to download and share a story on your phone.

If you are using an Android, follow these steps to download and share a story using the Story Saver app:

Download the Story Saver app from the Play Store.

Launch it and log in with your Instagram username and password.

You’ll see a list of the people you’re following and their stories.

Tap on any of the profiles and you will see all the stories they have posted in the last 24 hours.

Choose one of the stories.

Tap the arrow.

The story will be downloaded to your phone. Find it in your gallery and add it to your story.

If you’re using an iPhone, follow these steps to download and share a story using the Instant Save app:

Download the Instant Save app from the App Store.

Sign in to the app with your Instagram username and password.

Scroll through the stories posted by the people you follow and select the one you want to save.

Tap the save icon.

Find the photo in your folder and repost it as your story.

You can also copy a story’s link, paste it into the app, and share it again.

Send the story to your followers

Even if you can’t reshare a story, you can share it with the people you follow:

Open Instagram.

Find the story you want to share and tap the arrow in the bottom right corner.

Select the person to forward the story to.

Tap Send.

If the person who posted the story has a public account, anyone can open it. However, if the person has a private account, your follower won’t be able to open the story unless they also follow the person.

Ask the person who posted the story to repost it

If you’re in someone else’s story and they forgot to mention you, Instagram doesn’t offer a share option. If so, you can always ask the person who posted the story to repost it and tag you.

Why can’t my followers repost my Instagram story?

Your followers won’t be able to repost your story unless you’ve tagged it. If you’re not sure how to tag people in your Stories, here’s how:

Open Instagram and select the photo you want to share in your story.

Tap “@” and start typing the name/username of the person you want to tag. Repeat the process if you want to tag other people.

Next to Your Story, tap Share.

The person(s) you tagged will receive a notification that they were mentioned in your story. They can repost it by tapping Add to Your Story.

What are Snapchat Memories?

Snap Memories are Snaps and Stories that you can save for later instead of letting them self-destruct. You can open Memories at any time to view, edit, send, or repost this saved content.

What are flashback memories?

Flashback Memories are like anniversaries for your Snap Memories. This means if you added a snap to Memories on July 1st, 2017, it will appear as a special story every July 1st and prompt you to share it as a flashback.

They’re auto-generated, so you don’t have to do anything to get them – just check your memories to see if you had a flashback that day.

Flashback Memories are pleasant reminders of content you’ve shared over the years, and you might be surprised what turns up!

Unless you’re a robot, you probably can’t remember every cool video or funny photo you’ve posted, but Snapchat does. And like a loyal sidekick, they’re here to remind you of the good times.

How to use Snapchat reminders

Snap Memories are automatically enabled in your account, making this feature easier to use.

Swipe up from the camera screen to open Reminders. Individual saved snaps appear as rectangles and saved stories appear in circles. Scroll through all your saved posts or use the search function to find specific Snaps.

When you tap the search bar, you’ll see your reminders organized by category and location, so you can narrow down what you’re looking for. Snapchat also has a smart search filter that lets you search for keywords like “sunset” or “food” to find specific Snaps.

How to save Snaps and Stories to Memories

You can save Snaps to Memories before or after you post them.

To save a single snap before posting it, press the Download button (in the bottom left corner of the screen) to save it to Memories or your Camera Roll.

To save a Snap or Story to Memories after posting it, navigate to your profile icon by tapping the top-left corner of the screen.

Press the download button next to the My Story icon to save the entire story to your memories.

Or save individual Snaps by tapping the My Story icon. This will show all snaps in that story.

Tap each snap you want to save to expand it, then tap the download button (now in the bottom-right corner of the screen) to add it to Memories.

Keep posts that followers have sent you by saving them (or taking screenshots) and adding them to your Reminders folder.

How to automatically save Snaps and Stories to Memories

You can also set up your account to automatically save all your content to Memories.

Go to Settings and then Reminders.

Click My Stories Posts and change the default from Don’t Save My Story Posts to Reminders.

You can also save all content in your camera roll as well as in memories. This is a good idea for brands, especially if they want to share Snapchat content on other platforms like Instagram or Twitter. It also serves as an extra backup so you never have to worry about losing an amazing post.

To save to your camera roll, tap the Save setting, then select Memories & Camera Roll.

How to Repost Snaps and Stories from Memories

To repost a Snap or Story, swipe up from the camera screen to see all your saved memories.

Tap the Story or Snap you want to repost to open it, then hold your finger on the screen to open the menu.

From there you can select Send Snap to add it to your story.

How to create new stories from memories

You can also create a new story entirely from Memories by recombining content from different days or stories. This can be a fun way to create themed content that all features a specific product or type of post, or to share a journey longer than 24 hours in a single story.

On the Reminders screen, tap the tick icon in the top-right corner, then select the saved Snaps or Stories you want to share.

Once you’ve selected all the posts you want to include, tap the circle with the plus sign at the bottom of the screen to create a new story. It’s saved to the Stories tab of your Reminders screen so you can find (and add) it later.

From there you can export this story to save or post on other social platforms or share it with your followers by tapping “Send Story”.

How to make memories private

If you want to save reminders but hide them from your followers or friends, you can move them to My Eyes Only. That way they won’t show up when you scroll through your Reminders screen.

To move reminders, follow the same steps as above to post reminders as a new story: tap the tick icon, then select the snaps you want to make private.

Then tap the lock icon to add them to Just My Eyes.

The first time you add a snap to Just My Eyes, you’ll be prompted to create a four-digit passcode for security. You’ll need to enter the passcode every time you open the My Eyes Only folder, which you can access from the Reminders screen.

Make sure you pick something you can remember (or write it down) as there’s no way to recover it!

If you forget your passcode, those memories are lost forever. Snapchat takes secrets very seriously.

You can make these Snaps and Stories public again at any time. Just open it in Just My Eyes, hold your finger on the screen and choose Remove from Just My Eyes when the option appears.

If you would like all your reminders to be kept private, you can set this up in your settings. Just select “Save by default only in my eyes”.

How to post content created outside of Snapchat to Memories

Snapchat Memories allows you to share content created outside of the platform with your followers by importing photos and videos from your camera roll.

If you swipe up to open Memories, you’ll see a tab called Camera Roll. Tap and hold a photo or video you want to share, then tap Send Photo to add it to your story.

If you have created great posts for Instagram or any other platform, you can easily import them and share them with your Snapchat followers as well. It can also help you build your audience on other platforms.

How to use flashback reminders

Snapchat Flashback Memories are available whenever you have a current date reminder from a previous year.

Don’t see featured stories? It just means you don’t have a reminder with an anniversary today.

If you have a flashback memory, you can edit, share, or save it. Edit it to add new stickers, filters, or other flair if you want to spice it up a bit. After all, it’s an anniversary celebration.

From there, you can tap “Send Story” to make it public, or “Save to Stories” if you don’t want to share it right away. This will add it to your Stories tab and allow you to easily find and post it later.

Keep in mind that Flashback doesn’t apply to Snaps and Stories that you’ve made private by adding them to your My Eyes Only folder.

If you wish to disable this feature, you can turn it off in your settings. But we think it’s pretty fun, and we have a few ideas on how to use it!

Flashback memories are made for celebration. After all, they are anniversaries! Chances are, you’ll see flashbacks that remind you of how far you’ve come as a brand. At some point, you might even see your very first post on Snapchat!

Sharing these with your audience is a great way to recognize your longtime followers and show them how you’ve grown together. They also help connect new followers to your brand story and provide the behind-the-scenes authenticity and intimacy that Snapchat users love.

Combine memories into new stories

The 24-hour lifespan of a snap used to mean that you could only tell daily stories.

Sharing details from a longer project or photos from a multi-day trip meant separate stories that were disjointed and difficult to follow.

With Memories, you can merge these posts and create a new story from them.
