Step 1: Delete job files and restart

Whenever a print job is sent to the printer, a file is created in Windows. Sometimes these files get corrupted and cause problems. To properly reset your printing environment, manually delete these print job files and restart both the computer and the printer.

Turn off the printer’s power switch, and then unplug the printer’s power cord from the electrical outlet. Secure your work. After completing these steps, your current print jobs will be lost and will need to be printed again. Open Windows Services using one of the following methods: Search Windows for services and click Services in the list of results.

Press Windows key ( ) + R on your keyboard, type services.msc in the window that opens, and then click OK. Scroll through the list of services and look for the Print Spooler name. Right-click Print Spooler and choose Stop.

After the service has stopped, close the service window and use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS. Delete all files in the PRINTERS folder. As far as I know you try to connect the printer to your new network and it doesn’t work.

Don’t worry I’m happy to help you with the HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.

As you mentioned, if the wireless light keeps blinking, it could be due to the following reasons:

A Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) of the printer to the wireless network failed.

The printer cannot find a compatible WPS wireless router to connect to.

There is more than one router or access point on the network.

NOTE: HP recommends only one router or access point for wireless printer setup.

Follow these solutions in the order presented to try connecting the printer to the wireless network using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), or connect to the network by installing the software.

Solution 1: Turn wireless off and on again to clear the error.

On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button ( ). The blue wireless LED turns off.

On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button ( ). The blue wireless LED lights up.

If these steps resolved the issue, you don’t need to continue troubleshooting.

If the problem persists, continue to the next solution.

Going through your post, I understand that the printer has a blinking light error. Are you using a Deskjet 990c printer? If so, try the steps listed here: http://bit.ly/2BnFrog

Also, perform a power reset on the printer as suggested below:

Remove the cartridges from the printer.

With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

Remove USB cable if present.

Wait 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove extra charge.

Now plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet without a surge protector or extension cord (this is important) and then plug the power cord back into the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait until the printer has finished warming up and is idle.

Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again.

When you turn on your printer for the first time, Wi-Fi setup mode is automatically enabled to allow the printer to be discovered during setup. For security reasons, the Wi-Fi setup mode will be disabled after two hours.

Send a print job using a direct wireless connection between your printer and a Chromebook. Complete these steps while standing next to the printer.

Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password, and then click Connect.

Return to the main settings menu, then click Settings.

Scroll to the bottom of the screen and then click Advanced.

In the Printing section, click Printer, and then click Add Printer.

Select your printer, then click Add.

Open the item you want to print, click the Chrome browser settings icon, and then select Print.

Select your printer, then click Print.

For printers without a display, use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), HP Smart, or temporarily connect a USB cable to set up the Wi-Fi connection.

If one method doesn’t work, try another method.
