Not only is it tedious and time consuming, but it is also risky and cannot be overstated. Never use metal or other materials conducive to electrical currents to clamp or hold the charger in place!

This almost always results in a complete circuit between the battery terminals and the battery exploding. The best way to do all of this is not to try at all.
