The Chelsea boot can be worn alongside a range of styles but look particularly great with skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans—either rolled up a little to show off the boot or tucked into the top of the boot.

Are Blundstones supposed to be tight at first?

Blundstone boots are made to fit snugly around your ankle so can be tight to pull on the first time. Over time, the boot will stretch slightly over the instep, but never lengthwise.

Should my toes touch the end of my Blundstones?

A thumb width (or minimum of ½ an inch) of space between the end of the customer’s foot and the end of the boot is recommended for a good fit. Blundstone boots are commonly referred to as ‘outdoor slippers’, referring to the ease of putting on and taking off these boots.

Are Blundstones still in fashion?

While Blundstone boots – affectionately known as “Blunnies” in the Outback – remain the footwear of choice for Aussie workers, their styles have gone global. These leather boots now cushion the feet of trendsetters in art and fashion capitals around the world.

Blundstone Fitting

Below we’ve made a list of our top 6 favorite Blundstone boots for 2021. Now we know your 2021 probably wasn’t perfect. But did you know that Blundstone just celebrated its 150th anniversary last year? And did you know the company is still family owned and operated in Tasmania, Australia? So why not round off this year with a pair of Blunnies?

150 years of Blundstone

In 1870, John Blundstone began making shoes for Australia’s cobbled streets, farmland, factories and well-worn dance floors. While Blundstone boots – affectionately known as ‘Blunnies’ in the outback – remain the footwear of choice for Australian workers, their styles have spread worldwide. These leather boots are now padding the feet of trendsetters in art and fashion capitals around the world.

Want to know what keeps them trending? After 150 years of shoemaking, the company remains 100% committed to the durability, quality and innovation on which John Blundstone has built its reputation.

And for us, that is authenticity.

How can I make my Blundstones more comfortable?

You can use a shoe stretcher (buy one on Amazon here) or try crushing the heel with your hand to soften the leather. The simplest method is also just to wear a band aid on your heel before putting on your Blundstones.

Blundstone Fitting

As a traveler, one of the toughest questions is always, “Which shoes should I take on vacation?” They take up so much space, but it’s also something you can’t live without. Depending on the type of travel you are taking, Blundstones could be your new travel boot.

Blundstone boots are worthwhile because they are comfortable to wear all day long, regardless of the weather or terrain. Also, they are sold in many different styles and colors for every occasion!

Blundstone is an Australian company dating back to 1870 so they have enough experience to know what they are doing! They’re a bit more expensive, but your feet will thank you for taking them on your next trip!

Psst! This post contains affiliate links. It sends me a little extra when you buy something through my links, at no extra cost to you!

Is Blundstone worth it?

Blundstone boots aren’t exactly the cheapest footwear of choice. They range from 130 CAD to 260 CAD (depending on the style and color you want).

Despite the high price tag, I can say with certainty that Blundstone boots are worth it! You buy a sturdy boot that can accompany you for years! They are also very versatile to wear in different temperatures and for different activities. They are the ultimate boot for whatever your journey throws at you!

But how long do Blundstones last?

Blundstones swear their boots will last anywhere from two to seven years if worn as everyday boots and cared for properly. But I know people who have had their Blundstones for YEARS! And when I say years, I mean a good 10 years of everyday use!

So far I’ve had my Blundstone boots for over 2 years and there is only a bit of wear on the heel when I take them off. I wear them well all year round (even during the winter months…skip to see how I customize my Blundstone boots for winter).

I also bought Blundstone’s classic rustic style which is more of a washed leather so they don’t really look worn as I wear them over the years.

But if you want to get the most out of your boots, it’s also important to take proper care of them…

They require some maintenance

Blundstones are sturdy boots designed to go through thick and thin. But like any quality shoe, they need proper care. It’s simple, if you don’t take care of them, don’t expect them to last as long. To prolong the life of Blundstones, I recommend giving them a little maintenance to keep them in tip-top shape.

When I first bought my boots I sprayed them with a waterproof spray to give them even better protection from the rain. You should also do this about once a year.

There’s also a wax you can buy to keep the color. Amazon sells three main wax colors, buy brown wax here, buy black wax here, or buy cherry wax here. After purchasing the Rustic Blundstones I don’t need to use wax on them.

I found that after the first year I had to replace the insole. I’ve worn them so many times they’ve been completely flat. It added a lot of comfort to have a new fresh one. (P.S. You don’t need to buy Blundstone branded insoles as they are quite overpriced. The same goes for winterized insoles). You can buy any brand you want, I’m happy to replace them with a curved insole, even for more support! But plain insoles (like these on Amazon) work just as well!

Blundstone boots have a style for everyone

There’s a Blundstone boot for EVERYONE! A travel boot doesn’t have to be big and bulky to be comfortable. Okay, the Original Blundstone might be a bit big and chunky, but it’s a trendy Chelsea boot style these days.

Blundstones sells a TON of different styles of boots. The most popular are the Original, Classic, Dress, Thermal (waterproof), Active and even a women’s series. These series are available in either a rustic finish or a leather finish. They are all Chelsea boot styles for the most part, I will go into more detail on each series below.

I chose the Rustic Classic Blundstone. I was looking for a boot that I could use to explore the city but also tackle muddy trails and not worry about ruining them. When traveling you have to be prepared for everything. The rustic finish is really good for that.

Hiking the rocky beaches of Scotland. Not so happy with the rising tide but very happy I decided to wear my Blundstones!

How to find the right Blundstone boot for you

The Original and Classic series are the two most popular styles of Blundstone boots. Although both have the classic Chelsea boot style, there are a few differences. They have a different lining, the Original boot is lined with either cotton or Cambrelle while the Classic is lined with leather (this makes the Classic a warmer boot). The fit is also slightly different, the Original is slightly narrower than the wider Classic Boot.

The most popular original boot is the 500 series (see Amazon). But it’s also the only range that offers a lace-up boot if that’s what you’re looking for (which is better for hiking!).

The Classic Boot 585 is the most popular Blundstone boot out there (see prices on Amazon). The rustic finish was a real selling point for me to not have to worry about the look of the boot.

Plan the Ultimate Vacation My Digital Travel Planner Template comes with everything you need to plan your vacation: research templates, trip planner, travel budget templates, etc. You can print it out or use it digitally on your phone, tablet or computer.

The dress range is a great option if you want something a little fancier (check them out on Amazon here). They are medium in width and have a chisel (square) toe. This is the ultimate day-to-night shoe, touring all day and getting you straight into your dinner plans. No need to go back to your hotel to change with these!

If you’re traveling to a hotter or colder destination, they’ve got a boot for you too. The Active Series is a shorter, lighter and ultimately more breathable boot. The Thermal series has better waterproofing and lining, making it the ultimate Blundstone boot for winter (although I have some recommendations below if you’re also looking for a warmer boot).

They also sell the Blundstone Boots Women Series, which offers three new styles of boots with heels and accents.

Blundstones are ready for anything! Maximum versatility

One of the main reasons I love Blundstones for travel is the versatility they offer: rain or shine, hiking or city living. Depending on the style and finish, they can even take you straight into your nighttime adventures (either Blundstone women’s boot range or dress range)!

Hiking shoes are not designed for walking on concrete in the city, you will wear them out. But that’s not the case with Blundstones. They’re great hiking shoes for light hikes, but if you want to do more serious hiking I’d recommend the Original series with laces for extra support.

Plus, Blundstones are good for all weathers! Travel in spring, summer, autumn or winter! They are also water repellent which is a real problem when you are out all day, you never know what weather you will have on holiday. With Blundstones you are prepared for anything! Literally one boot can do it all!

Are Blundstones boots good for winter?

For me, these boots are perfect for cooler spring and fall weather. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them in other seasons. I wear them from an outside temperature of 10-15 °C down to 0 °C in winter.

BUT! If I combine them with thin wool socks and Sherpa-lined insoles, I can wear them even at -10°C (14°F)! If you still need some extra warmth, buy some toe warmers to tuck into your boot for the day.

They sell the Thermal range which are warmer Blundstone boots for winter use but then you only have a winter boot and nothing to wear the rest of the year. So I would recommend buying the Classic series and winterizing them yourself.

I find Blundstones to be a bit too warm to wear in the summer, but some people love them all year round! I know people who wear them in Israel… where it’s a sauna! But let’s be honest, when I go on vacation in the summer I don’t want my feet in shoes anyway.

How to Winterize Your Blundstones – What You Need (Amazon links)

Blundstones for travel: how to pack them?

When traveling by plane, boots are not exactly the smallest piece of luggage. I won’t lie, if you decide to bring these bad guys with you, they’re going to take up a lot of space in your suitcase. I’ve been in the same situation where if you can bring a smaller pair of shoes you might consider sacrificing comfort for space.

But what if I told you you don’t have to? Blundstones are so comfortable they are your go-to travel boot. However, I prefer to pack them on the way downstairs and then carry them on the way home. That way I know I’ll have more than enough room for souvenirs… I might have a problem.

For this reason, I also advise against buying the Thermal Series. If you’re traveling to a colder destination, you can still wear your boots on the plane and add any winter add-ons afterward (go to winter add-on recommendations).

Buy Blundstones: Attention! The size is weird

I think I bought a good 6 pairs before finding the right size (they didn’t have my size in store so I had to order online). The first size I bought was too small, the second pair was too big… and then it kind of took me 6 tries to find my size.

Blundstone is an Australian company so sizing can be quite confusing, especially for women. Depending on where you buy your boots, they may be in men’s sizes. So you need to convert your size to Men’s (US) size first and then convert to Australian sizes (about 2 sizes bigger).

Additionally, half sizes do not increase length size. That’s why when I bought them half a size bigger they were the same as the first pair…Half a size just adds width so if you have wider feet go half a size bigger even if you don’t usually would do.

Another thing to keep in mind when buying from the dress range is that these run a full size longer! Well, you should actually go down this size… Blundstones also gives you an extra insole with each boot, so you get half sizes. So if you’re between sizes, buy one size up and add the second insole. See the size chart here!

Breaking in Blundstones takes time!

I can’t express this enough. BREAKING YOUR BLUNDSTONES TAKES TIME. If you plan to buy Blundstones for travel, make sure you have enough time to break them in before your trip.

I bought my Blundstones for my 4 month trip to Europe and I thought I made a terrible decision buying these in the first month. The reality is I didn’t give myself enough time to break them in. I only bought them about a month before I left and couldn’t really wear them because of a heat wave in Montreal. So I had to break them in on my trip.

Both my partner and I bought the same pairs (yes, we matched all the time!) and both had sore feet. The soles of our feet hurt the most – the Blundstones require breaking in the soles. They hurt so bad I couldn’t wear them for a week afterwards. I had to buy insoles for my other shoes and sometimes I even had to put my feet on ice.

They were tolerable about a month later to run longer, but I would say that I really only started to love them 6 months after buying them (2 months after our trip ended!). Now that I’ve had them for over 2 years, Blundstones are my go-to travel boot for city walks and hikes!

The trick is to break them in slowly and not overdo it in the beginning with wearing your Blundstones. Start slow by wearing them a little longer each day. The time it takes to break in your Blundstones is different for everyone. You may not need any time at all, maybe it takes a month or 6! A typical time frame to break in your Blundstones is around 2 months of constant use.

It’s also common to get blisters when breaking in Blundstones on the heel. You can use a shoe stretcher (buy it here on Amazon) or try hand squeezing the heel to soften the leather. Also, the easiest method is to simply wear a patch on your heel before putting on your Blundstones.

Blundstone Fitting

What size am I?

Blundstone boots fit true to size. While our leathers will stretch and mold to your feet over time, if you prefer a roomier fit, go up a half size.

Use the table at right to convert between standard sizes. Your boots will be shipped in the appropriate Blundstone size, which is listed on the bottom of the boot.

The right fit

When you try on your Blundstone boots, the heel should drop slightly and there should be about a quarter of an inch from the tip of your toe to the front of the boot.

With repeated use, your Blundstone boots will stretch slightly across the instep, but never lengthwise.

When you receive your boots, make sure you try them on standing up and wear either socks or stockings that you wear with your boots. Please also try these on a carpeted floor to protect the bottom of the boots.

The Classic series has a slightly wider fit than the originals and has additional insoles to further customize the fit. And all children’s models have a removable insole that allows you to adjust the size for growing feet.

The dress range has a slightly longer fit than other Blundstone styles. Some people go half a size down in this style.

Easy return

If the fit isn’t quite right, we offer a 30-day return policy.

Frequently Asked Questions – Australian Boot Company

BLUNDSTEIN

All Blundstone boots are sized in Australian AUS/UK sizing – this is the size stamped on the bottom of the boot.

Are my boots waterproof? Our all-season leather is as weather-resistant as any leather can be, while still allowing your foot to breathe. With proper care, your boots will resist water penetration and keep your feet warm and dry. Blundstone boots’ construction with a limited number of seams means there are few places for water to enter. The Blundstone winter boot is our first fully waterproof boot, made with waterproof leather and seam-sealed construction. Regular maintenance is recommended for ALL boots.

Do I need to treat my boots? Most of our Blundstone boots are pre-treated during the manufacturing process and are as waterproof as any leather boot. We recommend regular use of a natural leather treatment to care for and preserve the leather. This in turn helps extend the life of your boots while keeping them weatherproof.

A favorite among Australian Boot Company employees is the R.M. Williams Saddle Dressing. A light application with a sock or cotton rag every 6-8 weeks will add significantly to the weatherproofing and longevity of any leather product. Saddle dressing also helps refresh the appearance of scratched or scarred leather. For deep scratches or significant discoloration, Blundstone polishing can provide excellent results.

Are Blundstone boots warm? Yes, winter has the all-weather qualities of all Blundstone boots, with the added warmth of Thinsulate and genuine sheepskin insoles to keep you comfortable through the coldest of periods.

Winter aside, Blundstone boots are not insulated and therefore do not offer additional warmth over and above a leather boot. However, they do a great job of keeping your feet dry through city mud and snow. We recommend wearing thick socks for extra insulation in winter, as well as a footbed if it fits.

Can I put a footbed in my boots? Yes, in any case! It’s not uncommon for Blundstone’s fit to be a bit roomy, especially for narrow feet. While most Blundstone boots come with a removable comfort footbed, an additional footbed can help provide a snugger fit for narrower feet. Every pair of Blundstone boots purchased through the Australian Boot Company comes with an extra pair of footbeds at no extra charge.

Sheep beds also help insulate the boot from winter elements. Our boots are fully compatible with custom insoles and Superfeet footbeds and supports.

How should Blundstone boots fit? Length is the most important criterion when fitting Blundstone boots. Walk around in the boots and get a feel for your frontmost toe touching the front of the boots. If they keep touching the front of the boots, the boots are too small. A thumb width (or at least ½ inch) of space between your heel and the bottom of the boot is recommended for a good fit.

Having determined the length of the boot, you can focus on the width. Blundstone boots are commonly referred to as “outdoor slippers” which refers to the ease with which these boots can be slipped on and off. Blundstone boots tend to have a relaxed fit and an inch or two in the heel is very common on Blundstone boots. If you still find them to be too generous, the insoles included in the box are helpful to improve the fit. You may also feel pressure on the instep of the boot where the “V-seams” come across the instep. Take a look at our Blundstone size chart. Please note all Blundstone boots are stamped on the bottom with their Australian/UK size.

Do Blundstones stretch? With regular wear, the instep pressure often decreases after two to three weeks as soon as the leather begins to stretch.

How long do my Blundstone boots typically last? There are many criteria to consider here. Where are the boots worn and what loads are they exposed to? Are they used for work, play, or both? How well are they taken care of? How strict are you with shoes and such? Each person’s Blundstone boots will have their own adventures and therefore each person’s Blundstone boots may last a different amount of time.

On average, when worn as everyday boots and with good care practices, Blundstone boots can last 2 to 5 years. This is an average only and as previously mentioned each person’s experience will vary based on use, exposure to the elements and materials and care of the boots. Please note that this does not imply or guarantee a lifetime expectancy.

RM WILLIAMS

R.M.Williams are handcrafted from a single piece of leather, just one stitch at the back of the boot, resulting in a highly weatherproof and strong boot. Eliminating side seams removes potential weak points and also reduces raised edges that can chafe and chafe the foot. A piece of leather also means color, grain and texture perfectly matched so you end up with a better looking boot.

68 manual processes From start to finish, each pair of R.M.Williams goes through at least 68 manual processes and takes about a week to make.

Fit and Comfort From the first moment you put them on, they should feel like you’ve known them for years. You hold your foot tight to the instep; They’re shaped to provide a snug fit under the arch of your foot, and then curved to conform to the shape of your heel.

Materials R.M. Williams selects only the finest leathers for its elegant yearling and grease boots. Each yearling boot is lined with soft, durable goatskin for breathability, comfort and easy entry into the boot. Each pair of boots is made from the same piece of leather, so each pair has a matching grain, color and texture. The frame sole construction allows for easy replacement when the sole wears out, which can be done with genuine parts at any Australian Boot Company location.

How do I take care of my R.M. Williams boots? The leather used in the Yearling boots (Craftsman, Jodhpur and Wentworth) is chrome tanned to give a high gloss finish and to prevent water ingress. To maintain this appearance, use R.M. Williams Stockman Polish periodically or as needed. You should also apply Saddle & Leather Dressing sparingly every 6-8 weeks to keep the leather supple and soft.

Wear your boots in dry conditions for the first few opportunities. Fine leather boots can take a day to dry from sweat. Leather soles tend to absorb more moisture when worn thin. Timely repair of boots is a notable practice.

Greasy Kip/Oily Boots “Gardener” R.M. Williams Saddle Dressing should be applied once every 3 months or as needed. This helps hydrate the leather and maintain weather resistance.

Are my R.M. Williams boots waterproof? With just one seam, R.M. Williams boots have few places for water to enter, but thicker leather offers greater weather resistance – the oiled and greasy Kip upper is more weather resistant than yearling leather.

How should my R.M. Williams boots fit? A correct R.M. The Williams fit will be snug across the instep and through the ball of the foot, however there should be no pressure in the toe box area as this part of the boot does not change with wear. The widest part of the foot sits in line with the widest part of the boot. The back of the boot slightly wraps the heel and there may be a slight heel lift when walking. R.M.Williams leather does not stretch, but will relax with wear and mold to conform to the unique shape of the foot.

What’s so great about Blundstones?

Blundstones are all the rage in part because of the trendy celebrities — like Ellen Page and David Beckham — who have been spotted wearing the boots. But the company says the comfortable fit, high quality, and suitability for the Canadian climate have won over wearers, and word of mouth has helped grow the brand.

It seems to be a common problem in mudrooms across Canada, and it’s all because of the popularity of Blundstone Originals – ankle-length leather slip-on boots with elasticated sides.

The boots are not a new innovation; First sold in Australia in 1870, where the company’s headquarters are still located today, they are now sold in more than 50 countries. But in the last five years, Blundstones have boomed in Canada despite priced over $200 for an adult pair.

“Pretty much every porch you step on, you’re going to see a bunch of typical rustic browns in the corner,” says Jameila Ali, marketing and inventory manager at First Western Boutique in St. John’s, one of Canada’s first seller of Blundstones.

“I’m telling everyone now, when you take them off, take a permanent marker and put your initials on the inside.”

Ali said wearers need to be careful not to accidentally snap their Blundstones.

A Tale of Misguided Blundstones Duration 1:15 Matthew Howse lost the ones he had, but the ones he found lasted him for three years – except when he lost the left one for six months and temporarily had a mismatched pair.

“They go to house parties, everyone has the same boots, and they literally show up the next Monday and they’re like, ‘I lost my boot,’ or ‘I’ve got a size 9, I’ve got a size 8, what should I do?'” , She said.

“You need to get yourself a new pair. It’s a very, very common thing now because everyone has it.”

Sales “off the charts”

Blundstone Canada President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Stacey couldn’t give exact sales figures, but he told CBC News that Canada is among the top 3 in sales in the world and has the widest range of colors and styles outside of Australia.

Sales are strongest along the coasts, he added, particularly in St. John’s and Halifax where the numbers are “off the charts”.

Many Blundstone wearers say the boots fit comfortably, hold up well and are trendy too. (Ted Dillon/CBC)

In fact, sales were so high that it raised suspicions at Blundstone’s headquarters, Stacey said, prompting the company to double-check its sales figures.

The boots are most popular with younger women, Stacey said, but he added that Blundstones are a “cradle-to-grave” product that appeals to all age groups.

Whatever the reason, they sell a lot of boots at the First Western Boutique. Ali said the store’s most recent order was for 408 pairs of Blundstones, almost three-quarters of which were sold before hitting shelves.

In December 2016 alone, the store sold nearly 300 pairs of its most popular model, the rustic brown Blundstone 585s, according to Ali.

Never out of style

Ed Grace has been with First Western for 18 years and said Blundstones have become their best-selling item.

The boots are a product he is serious about – he has five pairs himself.

Blundstone boots also appear to be well suited to the Canadian climate. (Tom Cochrane/Facebook)

While the boots may be in high demand at the moment, Grace said a quality classic boot will never go out of style.

“The trendy fact will still be forgotten as time goes on [and] it will still be comfort, it takes over,” Grace said.

“You’re getting people now who are regular customers who have more than one pair. It’s really addicting to shoes.”

Blundstone boots have seen a surge in popularity across Canada over the past five years. (Ted Dillon/CBC)

And it’s not just adults shopping for themselves.

The broad appeal has given rise to “Blundstone families,” Ali said, with children, parents and grandparents all having their own pair.

“We’re going to have parents with about four kids, they all have different styles, but they all have them,” Ali said.

“Every Christmas season they say my brother has them, or my son has them, my husband has them, and now we all have them.”

Are Blundstone half sizes just wider?

Blundstone and Redback Boots half sizes are only wider and are not longer than full sizes. If you normally wear wide fitting shoes, we suggest that you order a Blundstone or Redback half size for the extra width.

Blundstone Fitting

Just get a tape measure and measure the head circumference just above the ears. Make sure the band is wrapped straight around the head and is level front to back. You should feel a bump at the back of your head – please make sure the tape sits over the bump as this is the widest point.

Please measure a few times for accuracy. If the measurement falls between two sizes, please choose the larger size; For example, a head measuring 58.1 cm to 59 cm would wear a size 59 hat.

It’s always best to buy a hat that’s a little too big, rather than too small. Your Akubra hat will not only mold to your head, it will also shrink over time. If a hat initially feels too loose, you can fill the inside of the crown to make the hat feel smaller, or use a hat insert. Hat liners are available on our website and can be glued against the inner leather band at the front of the hat, creating a smaller, more comfortable fit.

Most of our hat sizes are shown in metric (centimeter) measurements. To convert your size to metric, please select the hat size chart.

If you are having trouble determining your size, please send us measurements and we can recommend a suitable size for you. Contact us here.

Blundstone and Redback boots are only wider in half sizes and no longer than full sizes. If you normally wear wide fitting shoes, we recommend ordering a half size from Blundstone or Redback for the extra width.

Are Blundstone shoes good for plantar fasciitis?

A great option for industry professionals that use a custom orthotic comes from Blundstone, whose boots are also popular for their heightened ankle support.

Blundstone Fitting

Every day at our four Vermont locations, the Danform team speaks to people looking for shoes to relieve their foot pain. Derek, our Danform Shoes General Manager, has observed that “while we serve a significant number of clients who visit a podiatrist regularly, many self-diagnose using the internet. We believe that foot pain should always be properly diagnosed by a doctor. With an accurate diagnosis, Danform can perfectly match shoe options to support your recovery.”

Our highly qualified team is ready to guide you through a selection of therapeutic footwear options designed to support your recovery without compromising your career or lifestyle.

“We see clients with plantar fasciitis of all ages and activity levels – they’re just in pain and want to be able to walk without it getting worse,” notes Rob Colchester, Store Manager, “our approach, particularly when they haven’t seen a specialist, is with a few questions to start:

How long have you had foot pain?

Do you feel tired within a few hours of waking up?

Tell me about the first step you take in the morning – it’s usually incredibly painful and the client will relate to that question

What is your job and/or what are your daily activities?

Are you currently wearing an orthosis?

What shoes are you currently wearing?

We also encounter a multitude of professionals who suffer from chronic foot pain and symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis affects a range of lifestyles and occupations, proving that pain has no single destination. Some common behaviors that lead to pain are prolonged standing, overuse, heavy lifting, and walking on hard surfaces.

Common occupations that experience symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:

Medical professionals: nurses, doctors, laboratory technicians

Culinary professionals: chefs, servers, kitchen staff

Service industry: hairdressers, retail trade, computer technicians

Education: teachers, administrators, maintenance

Athletics: runners, skiers, tennis and soccer players

Facility management: janitors, cleaning staff, craftsmen

Site management: workers, architects, engineers

LOOK GOOD AND FEEL GOOD FOR LESS

After a medical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis, “our first recommendation is to find a quality, affordable orthotic like Superfeet to add to a client’s current shoes,” adds Derek, a twenty-year Danform veteran. “You shouldn’t have to spend $500 right away to get relief.” Danform’s goal is to build trust for a lasting relationship. Plantar fasciitis recovery is often ongoing. Once you develop plantar fasciitis, you are prone to recurrence. Choosing supportive shoes increases the likelihood that your feet will remain pain-free.

The most important thing we want you to understand if you suffer from foot pain is this: “Most footbeds that come with shoes don’t provide the level of support that people with PF need – your shoe has to support the arch of the foot last all day.”

For clients suffering from plantar fasciitis pain, Derek often recommends going with a brand like Taos. “They really cornered the market by creating a cute canvas shoe that actually has great health benefits.”

Derek warns that customers often believe that a heavily cushioned shoe is the antidote to plantar fasciitis, when in fact, support that “holds the arch of the foot all day is the key element.”

The classic “sit-and-fit” experience is key to resolving plantar fasciitis. Being personally fit ensures that a trained professional evaluates your foot in the shoe. Danform can also share some recommended stretching exercises to relieve your pain.

Some of our favorite brands with great arch support are Vionic, Taos and Aetrex. “We’re happy to recommend these lines because they cradle the foot well and provide the health benefits you need with plantar fasciitis — and they look great for a range of activities.”

With plantar fasciitis, you need arch support from the minute you wake up in the morning to your very last step at night. It’s common for our customers to switch their entire footwear collection to a few brands they agree with – Taos, Vionic and Birkenstock cover a lot of ground in this regard. The other big lifestyle change that many people aren’t ready for is that “you should never really go barefoot again.”

“You really should never go barefoot again — even a pair of Joybees rubber clogs is better than nothing.”

BUT WHY WALK BAREFOOT WHEN THERE IS BIRKENSTOCK?

Danform stock a wide range of Birkenstock models as each pair is ergonomically designed to promote good foot health and comfort. We love getting our customers to wear Birkenstocks, especially those who have previously walked barefoot, says Shelburne Store Manager Sean, “After a week of wear, your Birkenstocks will fit your feet like a custom orthotic.”

Try Birkenstock’s Arizona, Buckley or Soley and you’ll soon understand why so many people wear this foot-healthy brand year-round!

AND FOR THOSE WHO WALK OR WORK ALL DAY

The Dansko Professional is our number one choice for nurses, teachers and restaurant workers. The classic slip-on design makes changing shoes quick and easy, while a sturdy heel and durable construction mean they’ll support your feet all day. In addition, most Dansko models have the seal of approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association. A great option for industry professionals using a custom brace comes from Blundstone, whose boots are also popular for their increased ankle support.

OUR NUMBER ONE WALKING AND RUNNING SHOE FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Hoka One One offers a premium selection of sports and athleisure options to support your on-the-go lifestyle. Hoka’s Bondi, recognized as the best shoe for injury prevention and rehabilitation, ensures the highest level of cushioned support, while the comparable Clifton features a thinner sole and more moderate cushioning with increased mobility. “If you tend to pronate, we always recommend the ‘Gaviota’ for more stability in your running shoes.”

The more time your foot spends in arch shoes, the better your chances of keeping plantar fasciitis at bay. Simple slip-on active recovery shoes like those from OOFOS are quickly becoming staples in a foot-healthy quiver.

FULL RECOVERY FROM PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Remember, it can take over a year for you to recover from plantar fasciitis, and Rob reminds us, “Wearing the right shoes will reduce pain and speed up your recovery. PF develops for many reasons, but wearing the wrong shoes is a key factor.” The human foot is no longer able to absorb the stress of hard floors all day long. “People think I’m joking when I recommend a more supportive slipper like Haflinger, but if you support your foot with absolutely every step you take throughout the day, you’ll be on the quickest path to recovery.”

Rob, one of Colchester’s top fit specialists, recently shared the story of a customer who said, “Danform is the only place I buy shoes from because they know what they’re doing, helping customers find that.” Finding the perfect pair of shoes that suits her style and eases her pain can be trial and error, but Rob is up for the challenge. It’s this combination of expertise in the business and thousands of shoes that make Danform Shoes the guru of choice if you suffer from plantar fasciitis. A “Sit and Fit” visit to the store is the best way to find the ideal shoes for your recovery, but our online collection also includes many of our recommended shoes for plantar fasciitis.

Can you put insoles in Blundstones?

Blundstone boots typically have a loose fit and a centimetre or two of heel lift is very common with Blundstone boots. If you still find that they fit too generously, the insoles provided in the box are helpful for snugging up the fit.

Blundstone Fitting

Blundstone Toe Rule:

For women, subtract 3 sizes from your Canadian size.

Sizes from your Canadian size. For men, subtract 1 size from your Canadian size.

Size from your Canadian size. For children, subtract 1 size from your Canadian size.

Length is the most important element when customizing Blundstone boots. It is normal for the boot to lift slightly at the heel.

All Blundstone boots have reinforced toes which help keep the shape of the boot intact therefore the boots will never stretch in length. With wear, it is common to find some “give” across the top of the boot. The exception to this is work and safety boots, where the steel toe caps are located.

If the fit is initially tight on the top of your feet – be patient, it should stretch with some wear or can be easily stretched by a cobbler.

Dress (formerly Chisel Toe) have a slightly longer fit than other Blundstone styles. In our experience, some people go ½ to 1 full size down on this style to accommodate the longer fit.

Please note that half sizes on Blundstone boots do not increase the length of the boot. Instead, they increase the space above the foot by adding more leather, creating a wider fit.

. Use the extra pair of insoles in the box if you find your Blundstone boots move too much. Doubling the insoles can take up about half a size space!

The size on the bottom of your boot is Australian size

All Blundstone models except the women’s range are unisex. This size conversion chart provides a simple guide.

The sizing stamp on Blundstone unisex boot soles represents Australian boot size (AUS).

If you already own a pair of Blundstone Women’s Series Heel boots, the sole will show your UK, US and EU sizes.

Can you wear leggings with Blundstones?

I love wearing Blundstones with a pair of leggings and a cute floral blouse. It’s the mix that makes them look effortless!

Blundstone Fitting

In Canada, our winters are long, frigid, and cold. A good pair of boots will keep you going all season long, but there’s no reason to sacrifice style. I’ve wanted a pair of Blundstone boots for a while as they are practical, made from waterproof leather and look slimmer than most winter boots. I’ve always wondered how to wear Blundstones… but I was surprised at how versatile they are!

This pair is from Union Jack Boots, who stock many Blundstone boots in a range of colours! You can also find Blundstone boots at Zappos. I went for the black chisel toe style because it’s more sophisticated, feminine, and feels a little more dressy. I was thinking of getting them in brown but I’m so glad I went with black. I find for a woman they are more versatile and black blundstones go well with leggings, tights and jeans!

How to wear Blundstones with skinny jeans

I wore my Black Blundstones with skinny jeans for a casual weekend look. My jeans are from Zara and have a raw hem (a big denim trend!) and a rip at the knee. I love the acid wash finish and think it compliments the shape of the boot.

I also wore the Blundstone boots with a gray turtleneck from Old Navy and a mint coat from SheIn. For accessories, I wore my purple mirrored Ray-Ban aviator shades and my new medium 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli bag in raspberry.

Shop looks:

This is where the styling comes into play. Balance the boots and jeans (a pretty casual combo) with a colorful coat or top and a fun bag! The pastel colors soften the edgy look of the boots. I love wearing Blundstones with a pair of leggings and a cute floral blouse. It’s the mix that makes her look effortless!

Tips for buying Blundstone Boots

There are many styles of Blundstones, so it’s a good idea to determine the shape you want. I personally love the chisel toe style on men or women. It’s streamlined and a little more rock and roll. The round toe is great if you are looking for comfort or usually wear round toe boots.

As for sizing, I’ve read that the half sizes offer more width than length. I wear an 8.5 shoe size, but for boots I usually go up to a 9. To determine the women’s Blundstone size, take your normal size and add 3 to it. So I went for a size 6 AUS. I find they are a bit big (and will seem to stretch), but I did that on purpose. Blundstone boots come with an extra insole for layering and I’ve added my own insole to make them even more comfortable. On colder winter days I also like to add a sheepskin insole so the extra room for it and woolen socks are much needed!

Overall these boots are versatile, waterproof and with a little experimentation can be a very stylish pair of winter boots to add to your collection.

What To Wear Chelsea Boots With, Style Guide & History

When first introduced in the 1850s, the Chelsea boot represented the state of the art. This was due to the use of vulcanized rubber for the side panels, an invention only recently made by Charles Goodyear. From the beginning, the Chelsea boot was considered a robust work boot. Above all, riders have taken them to their hearts because of their strength and resilience. But it wasn’t until Queen Victoria was spotted in a pair that the Chelsea boot’s popularity really took off in 1851. During this time the boot was still known as the “elastic ankle boot”. It wasn’t until the 1950s – when the boot became a favorite among members of the influential Mod culture known as the “Chelsea set” – that the boot got its name.

WHAT MAKES A CHELSEA BOOT?

First and foremost it is the elastic side part. The distinctive feature not only makes the boot easier to slip on, but also helps create the close, comfortable fit we know and love.

Another iconic design element that defines a Chelsea boot is the pull tab, which allows you to slip a finger in to put the boot on. Ever since we introduced our Chelsea boot, Blundstone boots have always featured pull tabs to make the boots easy to put on.

Originally made from leather, Chelsea boots can be made from a variety of materials. We made our first pairs from high quality, durable brown leather and later introduced a black leather variant. Over the years we’ve added new colors and materials, from suede to oiled leather.

Traditionally, Chelsea boots have a standard heel. However, as fashion and style have evolved, this design feature has changed and become more flexible. In fact, Blundstone has just introduced a women’s Chelsea boot called the Women’s Heel Boot with a higher heel than our other boots.

Blundstone Fitting

How should my Blundstones fit?

Length is the most important criterion when fitting Blundstone boots. A thumb width (or at least ½ inch) of space between the end of the customer’s foot and the end of the boot is recommended for a good fit.

This pressure often decreases after two to three weeks of regular wear as soon as the leather begins to stretch.

Chisel toes are cut slightly longer than other Blundstone styles. In our experience, some people go ½ to 1 full size down on this style to accommodate the longer fit.

Please note that half sizes are a bit unusual on Blundstones – they do not lengthen the boot. Instead, they increase the space above the foot by adding more leather, creating a wider fit.

Use the extra pair of insoles in the box if you find your Blundstones are moving too much. Doubling the insoles can take up about half a size space!
