Love Never Forget (Chinese: 恋恋不忘; pinyin: Liànliàn bù wàng) is a 2014 Chinese television series starring Jerry Yan and Tong Liya. It is based on the novel Wu Ai Cheng Huan (无爱承欢) by Lan Bai Se. The series was broadcast by ZJSTV from June 23 to July 5, 2014 for 34 episodes.[1][2]
Synopsis[edit]
Li Zhongmou (Jerry Yan) is a wealthy businessman who had a one-night stand with Wu Tong (Tong Liya) a few years ago. He forgot her until later, in an accident in which a young boy was injured; and upon verification, it was confirmed that the little boy, Wu Tong Tong, is in fact his son.
To win his son back, Li Zhongmou takes Wu Tong to court and tries to gain custody of the boy. However, he later doesn’t want his son to grow up the same way due to his lack of maternal love as a child, so he agrees to share custody with her. Over time, touched by Wu Tong’s close relationship with her son and her kindness, Li Zhongmou falls in love with Wu Tong. But Li Zhongmou’s rival and half-brother Xiang Jun (Denny Huang) also begins to fall in love with her.
Eventually, Li Zhongmou and Wu Tong get married, but they cannot tell others due to opposition from their families. After experiencing life and death, resentment and prejudice, everyone eventually learns to understand, trust and love. Li Zhongmou and Wu Tong overcome misunderstandings that threaten to ruin their relationship and reconnect after the breakup.

I can’t remember the last time I cried so much over illusions, fairytale characters and storytelling. Over the years of watching drama, there have been many, many moments when my heart fluttered, my voice cracked and the tears threatened, but rarely over and over and over again. And yet, Loving, Never Forgetting did just that. A story of a one-night stand that changed the lives of the Li and Xiang families. A tale of custody battles, intriguing parent-child relationships, sibling rivalry and power struggles. The pace is excellent. Show offers a nice mix of introspective moments between mothers and sons. Similarly, beneath the surface we see smoldering bonds between fathers and sons, strange yet familiar – quiet, frightening, but endearing. Jerry Yan does an excellent job of playing the aloof and tough businessman Zhong Mou, but his skillful acting still makes me sympathize with the cold facade he puts up in the custody battle, tearing his son away from the only mother he knows and loves. The tenderness he shows Tong Tong in moments of need is pure magic. Even though Zhong Mou grew up without maternal or paternal warmth, he is naturally capable of searching deep within himself for love for a son who is suddenly nudged into his otherwise lonely life. Vowed never to fall in love and marry, his impenetrable wall of bachelorhood is being melted brick by brick by the generous, loving, and open-minded Wu Tong. Initially skeptical of her motives, he keeps her at a distance, but finds himself increasingly attracted to the woman, who bore him a son, though she does not remember their moment of intimacy. Tong Liya is perfect in the role of Wu Tong. She is strong-willed, but in a feminine way. Her maternal instincts are strong: protective, selfless, but realistic. Some viewers consider her weak, which is somewhat true as she is naïve to make a mistake, but her flaws are understandable and don’t detract from the overall plot. She lets me feel her pain and I cried beside her as she parted ways with Tong Tong and struggled to balance her own needs with what is best for Tong Tong. A family melodrama with its angelic female character, Wu Tong is someone who believes in her good for all and naively believes she has the power to bring about change. Despite being told over and over again that 30 years of hatred and bitterness won’t go away overnight, she marches on in her own cocoon, thinking that somehow she can be the catalyst that drives family unity forward. The chemistry between Zhong Mou and Wu Tong is earth shattering off the charts. I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched the scene where Zhong Mou brings up the elusive subject of him falling in love with her. This OTP is undoubtedly a match made in heaven. Tong Tong is gorgeous and just perfect for the role, maybe too perfect (some said), but then again it didn’t bother me at all. His adorable interactions with Wu Tong and Zhong Mou warms my heart and puts a smile on my face. As for the supporting cast, I have to say that this is one of those rare occasions when I have to complain about any character. Everyone has their own honest story to tell. Kudos to Lin Jian Dong, personal assistant, extraordinary sidekick whose loyalty and affable demeanor bring light-hearted moments to the show. His battered affection for Liang Yue Qi is subtle, like a tree-lined vista that provides much-needed shade for its unsuspecting passers-by. The most villainous of the characters, Xiang Jun, sent shivers down my spine for a few episodes, which made me brew hatred for him, but the hatred slowly ebbed as the show neared redemption. There wasn’t a moment when I felt like fast-forwarding. Instead, the show kept me up late and had me wasting entire weekends drooling on what’s next. If I had one complaint, it would be the last few episodes that felt like scene fillers. I could do without those last few “dramas” — my heart wasn’t beating as hard as it had at the beginning as Zhong Mou overcomes crisis after crisis. The ending could have been completed a few episodes earlier. Loved the OST, especially Jerry Yan’s. A heartfelt melodrama that touches on two generations and the bad blood that binds the Li and Xiang families, and ultimately a woman who wants to unite them all. One that moved my soul. You must have seen that.
