Due to ongoing health concerns, Make Me Shine will no longer be open to the public. Floyd’s comfort and happiness has always been our top priority, and from now on it’s our only priority.

We’ve often said he’s a modern warhorse – when you call him, he answers, and he does it with enthusiasm. We were in awe of his willingness to give you everything, and he certainly GIVES:

Four World Champion titles in Western Pleasure, two Reichert Celebration titles, a Color Breed Congress Championship, Open & Amateur Superiors in Western Pleasure as well as numerous World and Reserve World Championships, Honor Roll Championships, Amateur Top 20 Awards and European Championships with limited foals.

He came out of retirement TWICE to compete against horses half his age, or in some cases a quarter, and won championships to take home. It’s one of those rare gems that truly deserves the phrase “ahead of its time.” We are fortunate to have great people come at the time they are meant to, with precision and determination to leave their lasting mark, and we are so incredibly grateful that Floyd should come to us at the time that he did it . He gave us an education in breeding and stallion management that no money in the world could have bought. Sitting on the back of this stallion and having the opportunity to learn from him is the treat of a lifetime.

This old warhorse has more than earned his retirement and we are so fortunate to be the ones who have been blessed with the opportunity to love him and give back to him in his golden years. From now on there are many (and many, many, many) German horse muffins to look forward to, along with the best of care and deepest admiration.

Make Me Shine and Millie Corder Make a Comeback

Make Me Shine and Millie Corder are making a comeback

You can call Millie Corder from Gainesville, Georgia and her multiple APHA World Champion Western Pleasure stallion Make Me Shine “The Comeback Kids”. At this year’s Pinto World Show, this team won the Elite Western Pleasure with 28 in class. While Corder and Floyd are no strangers to winning circles, they have retired from riding lessons for several years and have recently been a team.

“It was wonderful. So many people know Floyd and were so happy to see him back in action,” says Millie. “Winning Pinto World was such a shock. I knew Floyd could do it, but after this I was very nervous for many years. I had only shown Floyd three times before to qualify him for Paint World. There were two cuts in my class and a lot of nice horses.”

In 2002, Make Me Shine won the APHA World Champion Jr. Western Pleasure, Amateur Jr. Western Pleasure, and the APHA World Show Champion Three-Year-Old Western Pleasure Challenge. Floyd was also a Reichert Celebration Champion NSBA Open Color Breed Western Pleasure and Reichert Celebration Reserve Champion NSBA Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

After all the stallion’s successes, he was pulled back into the breeding stable by the owner at the time, Melissa Busch. Due to other commitments, the family sold all of their horses — including Floyd — to Double C Acres in North Carolina, owned by the Casada family.

Meanwhile, Corder, a former Top 20 amateur, developed what she thought was back problems and stopped riding in early 2000. Fortunately, in 2007 she found out that she actually had a hip problem and underwent hip surgery.

“Over the past few years, as I’ve been feeling better and better, I told my husband, Ron, that I wanted to ride again, but it would take a very special horse to get me back in the ring,” Corder recalled.

That’s where the 13-year-old APHA stallion by Paint Me A Zippo came in. Millie’s husband Ron Corder, who she calls her biggest fan and supporter, surprised her with a trip to North Carolina after Christmas to see Floyd. The pair came home with the talented stud that day! The special thing about this team is that they do everything themselves. Corder says Floyd is so easy to show and prep that she can finish him herself.

“He’s one of the friendliest horses I’ve ever seen. When we bought him we wanted to bring him home and give him money as we’re not interested in breeding, but he was raised so well it wasn’t necessary,” says Millie. “Floyd has brought back a part of my life that I thought was gone. There isn’t enough space here to say what I like about showing. We plan to qualify in November as well and bring Floyd to Paint World. Make Me Shine helped me achieve a dream…..I’m living that dream……..again.”

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate this new team on their recent success and wish them the best of luck at the upcoming APHA World Show.
