Are you supposed to cut LED light strips?

If the LED light strip you bought is too long, you need to cut off the extra part. The first thing you should do is measure the right length. If you accidentally cut the strip too short, your effort will be wasted.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

Q: Can I cut LED light bars? Where do I cut LED light bars?

A: As an LED strip light has a fixed length and it is not always possible to always buy strip lights in a suitable length, users have often asked if a strip light can be cut to a fixed length. In fact, there are many brands and products of LED strip lights, so whether a strip light can still be used normally after cutting is not a question that can be answered in general. It really depends on the specific product. In general, if the light strip has a cutting line, it can be cut; If it doesn’t, it’s best not to cut it.

Part 2. How to Fix LED Strips After Cutting

Part 3. Using LED Strips After Cutting

Part 1. How to Cut LED Strip Lights

Before you cut light strips, please make sure the strip you bought can be cut; otherwise the light strip may become unusable due to cutting; At the same time, you must remember to disconnect the power supply. Directly cutting a light bar connected to a power supply is extremely dangerous.

Step 1. Measure the length

If the LED strip light you bought is too long, you need to cut off the excess part. The first thing you should do is measure the right length. If you accidentally cut the strip too short, your effort will be for nothing.

Step 2. Look for the scissors logo on the light strip

For the convenience of users, manufacturers have placed a scissor logo on the cuttable portion of their LED light bars. To avoid damage, you need to find the scissors logo before cutting.

Step 3. Cut with scissors

The last step is to use your scissors and cut off the excess strip along the spot marked by the scissors logo. Accidentally cutting diagonally can cause the light to stop working, so be sure to cut straight.

Part 2. How to Fix LED Strips After Cutting

Q: I bought a LED strip and used part of it, but I want to use the remaining part as well. Is that possible?

A: If the LED strip light you bought can be cut, the remaining part you cut off can no longer be used. If you want to reconnect them after cutting, you need to use an extra 4-pin connector to reconnect. However, if the operation is not correct when cutting and connecting, it may also cause the light strip to stop working properly. We therefore advise you to check the length of the strip before cutting it and avoid having to rejoin it after cutting.

If you need to reconnect LED light strips after cutting, you will need an extra 4-pin connector. In general, this product is not included in a LED strip light kit and must be purchased separately.

Step 1. Buy Lepro 4 pin LED strip light connector

There are many types of light bar connectors, so you need to choose the right one based on the type of light bar. If your light strip is 10mm wide, the 4 pin connector you choose must be suitable for 10mm. If your lightstrip is 8mm wide and you buy a 10mm plug it won’t work. However, the 4-pin connectors are the most commonly used. The Lepro 4 pin light bar connector pack includes 5 pieces of L-shaped and 5 pieces of line-shaped connectors, which are suitable for connecting 90° corners as well as extending along a straight line, which can be used in almost all occasions.

Step 2. Open the connector

If the connector has a cover, you need to open the connector on the side.

Step 3. Insert the light strip into the connector

Insert the two cut ends of the LED light strip into the connector’s mounting clips. At this point you should check that they are not swapped by following the picture instruction.

Step 4. Cover the connector

After placing the light strip, close the connector cover and try to see if the light strip lights up normally after the power is connected. If the connected parts do not light up normally, try adjusting the connection point between the connector and the light strip.

In general, it’s a bit of a hassle to reconnect the strip after cutting. Not only do you have to buy additional plugs, but any improper operation can also render the strip unusable. So it is best to pay attention to the right length and avoid waste.

Part 3. Using LED Strips After Cutting

Q: Will a cut LED light strip still work?

A: Some light strips can be cut to a specific length and will continue to work. However, they must be cut according to the cutting mark. There are some tiny and precise parts on LED light strips. Accidentally cutting in the wrong place may cause the light to stop working normally.

After you cut the light strip, you can put the necessary parts in the right position and turn on the lights by following these steps. The following steps use Lepro LED light bars as an example:

Step 1. Make sure the wall is dry and clean

If you need to install the light strip on a wall, please clean the wall first. If the wall is dusty or wet, you cannot install the LED light strip properly.

Step 2. Paste the LED light strip

After cleaning the wall, you can tear off the cover of the 3M super glue behind the light bar and stick it where you want.

Step 3. Connect the LED light strip

If you bought a LED strip light kit, it should come with a connector and a controller. You should use the connector to connect the light strip and the controller. Pay attention to the front and back when connecting the light bar and connector. If the light strip is inserted the wrong way round, it will not work properly.

Step 4. Plug in the power and turn on the LED light strip

The final step is to connect the controller to power and you should see the LED light strips are on.

If after performing the above steps you find that the LED light strip still does not light up, please check if there is no connection problem. If the setup is normal, it means the light strip may have been damaged during the cutting process. So be careful and always cut according to the logo on the strip.

How do you connect LED strip lights to power supply?

For this, all you need to do is connect the led strips to the ends of your led splitter and then plug in your female connector to the male connector on your power supply. This will ensure that power is distributed evenly and the lights are working as they should.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

Once you have the number, you can easily determine the amperage. This will help you find out the power consumption of the LED strips in watts and amperes. With that done, now switch to your power option to find out if it’s compatible.

Good LED lighting ideas can make your space look just right. Bright task lights make a retail space stand out, mood lights make a restaurant look cozy and chic, dazzling neon signs draw more attention, and bright indirect lighting can add personality to a living room.

You can change the mood and atmosphere of any room by playing with the brightness of its lights. LED lighting technology can help you with that and more.

Lighting technology has come a long way since the traditional light bulb. Back then, you had a limited choice of colors and brightness levels. LED lighting technology has changed all that. Now you can light up your space in any color and adjust the brightness level to suit your needs.

LED light strips not only offer variety, they are also the most efficient form of lighting. Take a look at the table below to see how LEDs compare to CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) and incandescent lamps

LED vs. CFL vs. Incandescent LED CFL Incandescent Watts 7W 14W 60W Average Cost Per Lamp $4 or less $2 $1 Average Life 25,000 hours 8,000 hours 12,000 lamps are needed for 25,000 hours 1 3 21

As you can see, LEDs require less power to provide the same brightness as CFL or incandescent bulbs.

The technically brightest LED strips belong to the SMD 5730 series. But what does that mean exactly?

You may have noticed that LED light strips have names like 2216, 2835, 3528, 3020, 3014, 5050 and 5730. These numbers indicate the physical size of the LED strip. So 5050 is a LED strip which is 5mm × 5mm and so on. These numbers also indicate the series of the LED strips.

The SMD (Surface Mounted) 5730 series is the brightest LED strip because it contains powerful LEDs that can produce a lot of light.

It is important to note that comparing one LED strip series to the other is like comparing apples to oranges. This is because you can make an LED strip as bright or dim as you like by changing the number of LEDs per strip and the distance between two LEDs on the strip.

Our brightest LED strip series is the 3020 Super Bright Strip. With 120 LEDs per meter and a power consumption of 19.2 W/meter, this LED strip gives off the brightest light and is still efficient.

Below is a video showing the test to determine the brightest LED strips between 2835, 3014, 5050, 5630 and 7020.

Do you really need the brightest LED strip light?

Have you ever seen a football game in a stadium? The field in the center is surrounded by high power spotlights that illuminate it from all angles. While a few smaller floodlights face the lower stands. The top stands are illuminated by the diffused light that reaches them from all other floodlights in the stadium.

Now imagine that the entire stadium is illuminated by high power floodlights. Not a pretty picture, is it? This not only weakens the impact of the stadium, but also makes it difficult for you to focus on the game.

The same principle applies to your lighting needs. For accent lighting in your living room or office, you don’t need the brightest LED light strips. The same applies to task lighting in offices and public places such as hotel lobbies and restaurants.

Elevators, stairwells and bathrooms can easily be illuminated with LED strip lights that offer a medium white light. In this case, the color of the light makes these areas appear lighter.

The brightest LED light bars are ideal for illuminating retail areas, warehouses, garages, film and photo equipment, and event lighting. Industrial workstations with pick and place robots and robotic CNC machines also need the brightest LED strips for fewer errors and defects.

Although you can change the brightness levels of your LED light strips, choosing one that has just the right brightness for your space is the way to go. Read on to find out how to measure the brightness of LED strip lights and choose the best one for your needs.

How is LED brightness measured?

One of the first things to consider before buying LED strips is their brightness. Choosing the right brightness is crucial as it determines the overall look of your home, commercial, industrial space or vehicle.

LED brightness is typically measured using these three metrics:

lumens

The most commonly used metric to measure LED brightness is lumens. Lumens are a measure of the total light produced by an LED. Derived from “luminous flux”, lumens are calculated by placing an LED in a sealed, reflective sphere. The light from the LED is then reflected around the sphere to calculate the flux of rebound at a point. The lumen is then calculated based on the size of the sphere. For this reason, higher power LEDs are referred to as “high-flux”.

Lumens are used to assess the brightness of an LED strip. The larger the lumens, the brighter the light emitted by the LED light bar. The lumen rating is usually given with a number followed by the letters “lm”.

It’s important to note that the lumen rating alone may not give you an accurate measure of the brightness of the LED light. You must also ask yourself the following questions:

How are the lumens specified? Feet, meters or per roll?

How long is the strip or roll?

We use lumens to measure the brightness of LED lights. In the meantime, let’s use watts to measure how much current they will draw. It is important to note that wattage alone does not indicate how bright the LED will be. Take a look at this comparison chart to see what we mean:

Lumen incandescent lamp LED 2600 lm 150 W 25 – 28 W 1600 lm 100 W 16 – 20 W 1100 lm 75 W 9 – 13 W 800 lm 60 W 8 -12 W 450 lm 40 W 6 – 9 W

You can use this chart when transitioning from incandescent to LED lighting. For example, if you used a 75W light bulb in your room, you can replace it with a 1100lm LED light without compromising on brightness. The chart also shows you how much energy you save by using LED strip lights.

candela

While lumens are used to measure the brightness of white light, millicandelas (mcd) are typically used to measure the brightness of colored LED light. A candela is the measure of all light produced and directed in one direction.

Lumen measures the brightness of light across all wavelengths. All wavelengths combine to make white light, so lumens are a more accurate measure of white light LED strips. Candelas measure the overall brightness of light in a single wavelength, so they’re a better metric to measure colored LED strips.

You can easily convert millicandelas to lumens, but that gives you an inaccurate reading of the brightness of colored LED light strips. Because lumens measure wavelengths of light across all colors in the visible spectrum, the lumen rating of colored LED light strips is deceptively low. In fact, the colored light stripe would be just as bright as a white light version of the same stripe.

lux

Lux is a lesser used metric to measure LED brightness. Lux measures how strongly a light source illuminates an object or workspace one meter from the light source. In other words, Lux measures the number of lumens per square meter.

Lux tells you how much luminance your LED light strip will produce. This will help you understand how much light you will actually see in a room or vehicle lit by LED strips. In addition to the light source, the lux value also depends on the degree of reflection that occurs in any given room.

This metric is useful when lighting a large space like a warehouse or a large room with a lot of furniture. It is also great for measuring the effectiveness of LED light bars used in vehicles such as cars and airplanes.

What to consider before choosing the brightness of the LED strip?

Source: Shutterstock

Now that you know how to measure the brightness of a LED strip set, let’s take a look at the factors you need to consider before buying the brightest LED strip.

Where to install

The length, shape, color and brightness of an LED light strip depend on its use. The first step in deciding the brightness of a light strip is to determine its application. For example, a bathroom is a place where we can enjoy our shower time and relax after a long day of work. Beautiful bathroom design will bring us a good mood when we take a shower. LED light strips in the bathroom not only can provide us with good lighting, but also can be a beautiful decoration in the bathroom.

Another consideration is whether you are installing the LED strip indoors or outdoors. The total area and type of room are also important. For example, colored LED strips for signage require a different brightness than white light LED strips for illuminating a mirror.

colour

Determining the brightness of LED strips also depends on the color of the desired lighting. Bright, warm-colored LED strips look different than bright, cool-colored ones. Deciding on the type of effect you want will help you choose the right brightness of LED lights. For example, if you manage to create a pastoral atmosphere with the right lighting, marvel at the effect of light and spontaneously think of these great quotes for plant lovers.

Factors affecting the brightness of LED strips

The brightness of LED strip lights depends on a number of factors. Read on to find out how these factors affect LED strip brightness and how to find the right LED strip for your needs.

LED efficiency

LED efficiency refers to the lumens plus luminance of each LED emitter. As previously mentioned, lumens determine the total light emitted by a single LED emitter. For LED strips, lumens typically indicate the light emitted from one foot of the strip. The higher the lumen number, the brighter the light emitted by the LED strip.

To determine the luminosity of each LED emitter, check its lux rating. This tells you how bright the light produced is compared to natural light. Lumens and lux together give you a better idea of the brightness you can achieve from an LED light strip.

You can choose to have your space look as bright as you want. But here is a guide that will help you choose the right LED strip:

Lighting Task Recommended Lumens Accent lighting (stairwell, pool) 150-250 lm/ft Nearby task lighting (lamps, base cabinets) 175-550 lm/ft Remote task lighting (ceiling) 350-1200 lm/ft Indirect lighting (backlight) 375-1200 lm/ft ft of signage (boards) 500-1200 lm/ft

LED density and pitch

LED density refers to the number of LEDs on a single strip. This can be measured per foot or per meter. LED density is a better metric to measure the brightness of LED strips. The larger the number of LEDs on a strip, the brighter the light it produces.

The LED spacing indicates the distance between two LEDs on a strip. A larger distance means there are visible hotspots and dark spots in the strip, making the light appear more diffuse. Take a look at the table below to see how you can use LED density to determine brightness.

LED Density LEDs per foot and meter Low Density 9 LEDs per foot – 30 LEDs per meter Medium Density 22 LEDs per foot – 72 LEDs per meter High Density 36 LEDs per foot – 120 LEDs per meter

Multiple low-density LED strips can help you achieve the same brightness as a single high-density LED strip. However, the effect of the two will be different.

LED power consumption

The LED power consumption indicates how much electricity an LED strip consumes. This will help you determine the power supply required for your LED lights. The power consumption of high-quality LED lights should be more than 4 watts per foot or 15 watts per meter. The power consumption of an LED light strip also helps you to determine the electricity costs.

Another factor affecting LED brightness and longevity is determining whether individual LEDs are clipping. You can check this by dividing the LED wattage per foot by the strip density per foot. The individual LEDs should not be driven with more than 0.2 W each.

Determining power supply by power consumption is as simple as multiplying the power consumption of the LED strip per foot by the strip length. For example, if the power consumption for your LED light strip is 5W per ft and the length of the LED strip is 5ft:

Power supply = 5W power consumption per ft × 5ft strip length = 25 watts

LED strip length

The length of the LED strip also determines its brightness. When the distance between the LED light strip and the power source is more than 20ft, sometimes a phenomenon called voltage drop occurs. The section of the LED strip furthest from the power source emits more diffuse light than the rest of the strip. It can even flicker and die off completely.

To fix this you need to do the following:

Use a thicker wire between the power source and the LED strip

Use a parallel connection to power different strips along the same route

Use a parallel connection to power different strips along different runs

Use separate power supplies in different areas

Generally, 12V powered LED strips lose voltage faster than 24V powered ones. So, whenever possible, choose 24V powered LED light strips.

Conclusion

The brightest LED strip light depends on many factors including intended use, color, efficiency, ease of use and your budget. Do you have a unique space that you would like to light up? How long do LED strip lights last?

Most LED light strips can last anywhere between 20,000 hours and 50,000 hours. This depends on your specific installation, products used, how often you have them on and the manufacturer of the diodes. 50,000 hours equals 17 years of light output for 8 hours a day.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

Are your current streaks of light beginning to fade? Or maybe do some research before making a purchase?

In any case, one of the great characteristics of LED lights is their longevity. But as with many products, you get what you pay for. And that also applies to LED light strips.

Most LED light bars can last between 20,000 and 50,000 hours. This depends on your specific installation, the products used, the frequency and the manufacturer of the diodes.

50,000 hours correspond to 17 years of light output for 8 hours a day.

Do LED light strips use a lot of electricity?

An average LED strip light consumes roughly 7 to 35 watts. This wattage is highly dependent on the specific product, as more energy-conscious strip lights require very little electricity while bright, fully-featured lights can use almost as much electricity as a conventional bulb.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

In recent years, LED strips have become a popular and sought-after choice for consumers looking for a stylish way to light up their homes. Using lights that don’t use too much electricity is one of the most important aspects of lighting for many people.

LED strips do not consume much electricity. These light strips consume significantly less energy than conventional light bulbs. In general, they leave a lower electricity bill and environmental footprint due to their energy efficient design.

In this article, I’m going to give you a more detailed explanation of the energy consumption of LED strip lights, how these lights compare to more traditional forms of lighting, and how to tell if they’re worth the cost.

How much electricity does an LED strip use?

If an LED light bar is more energy efficient than an incandescent light bulb, you probably have an obvious follow-up question: How much electricity do these light bars use exactly?

An average LED light bar uses around 7 to 35 watts. This wattage is highly dependent on the specific product, as more energy conscious strip lights require very little power, while bright, fully featured lights use almost as much power as a standard incandescent bulb.

According to CNET, most lamps use significantly less energy than their maximum output. This reduced power consumption is because you probably won’t be running them at full brightness 24 hours a day.

However, if you buy the brightest light bars with the highest number of panels, you can potentially draw in excess of 62 watts when running the light at full power.

Energy efficiency of LED light strips

LEDs are exceptionally energy efficient. LED lighting works by converting most of its energy into light rather than heat, while traditional lighting uses a heat-intensive approach.

As a result, LED strip lights require significantly less power to produce the same amount of light as fluorescent or incandescent lights.

LED lighting vs. conventional lighting

Now that we’ve established that LED lighting is significantly more energy efficient than traditional lighting, let me break down the benefits that LED strip lights can offer you.

According to this source, LED light sources are 90% more energy efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs.

This increased energy efficiency means that LED lighting costs less in the long term and reduces a home’s negative impact on the environment.

In addition, light strips with LED lighting have an overall higher quality of light than standard alternatives. The quality difference in illumination is a natural result of the more focused design of the LED strips, which produce a stronger glow.

Are LED strips expensive to run?

Although LED strips offer several clear benefits, cost is still a deciding factor for most buyers. The purchase price and the running costs are probably the most important things for a consumer.

Strip lights are usually not expensive to run. Although they are often more expensive than fluorescent or incandescent bulbs, their energy efficiency and longer lifespan means they are cheaper to use in the long run than the cheaper alternatives.

Next, I’ll give you a more concrete idea of what the market price is for different types of LED strips and how much you can spend on them when it comes time to pay your electricity bill.

Price range of LED light bars

Some light bars are more straightforward and tout a minimal, budget-friendly design, while others are more elaborate and loaded with features. Because of these different design philosophies, the price range for an LED strip light setup can vary greatly.

Popular LED strips can range from $15 at the low end to $75 at the more advanced level.

Cheaper strip lights tend to have more basic and limited features. At the same time, the more expensive options offer several selling points, such as advanced customization options, handy Wi-Fi capabilities, and flexible color schemes.

Light costs according to energy consumption

As expected, how expensive an LED strip is in the long term also depends on the power consumption.

The reason for this cost variation is twofold: First, a light strip with a higher maximum output power typically has a higher market price. Secondly, if you use a light bar with the highest brightness level and high frequency, it increases the cost of your electricity bill.

Regarding the second point I mentioned, you can expect a typical range in the monthly cost of LED strips.

Generally, these costs range from $0.6 per month to $5 per month (assuming 24/7 usage at the highest brightness level).

Are LED strips worth it?

If you are considering purchasing an LED light bar, or a set of light bars, you may be trying to determine if the benefits of this type of lighting are worth the total cost.

LED strips are worthwhile for buyers interested in long-term savings. Although their initial cost is usually higher than traditional light sources, LED lights save on electricity costs over time due to their energy efficiency.

On the other hand, consumers who are more interested in short-term savings may be put off by the higher price of LED strips.

Fortunately, there are budget-conscious options that offer both short-term and long-term benefits.

Advantages of LED lighting

LED lighting offers several key advantages over traditional incandescent or fluorescent lighting.

In addition to the energy efficiency and eco-friendly design I’ve already discussed, LED lights also allow for a more customizable and personalized color system for lighting your spaces.

This color customization offers consumers the opportunity to change the mood and atmosphere of their home and can even be said to have a positive impact on mental health.

You can also use strip lights for other practical purposes such as: B. to avoid tripping hazards, highlight areas of interest and reduce eye strain for electronic displays such as PC monitors and televisions.

LED strips in comparison

Once you’ve decided that LED strips are worth the investment, you still need to decide on a specific product for your home.

While there are many factors you can consider when choosing an LED strip light setup, there are usually a few key details to consider:

Price: Cheaper light strips are also competitive with conventional light sources, while the more expensive versions often have a significantly higher price.

Cheaper light strips are also competitive with conventional light sources, while the more expensive versions often have a significantly higher price. Feature set: Some LED lights emphasize a sleek and minimalist design, while others offer a wide range of valuable and unique features.

Some LED lights emphasize a sleek and minimalist design, while others offer a wide range of valuable and unique features. Customization: If personalization is a key selling point for you, you should probably stay away from products that offer few customization options.

Technological sophistication has also increased tremendously with LED strips, so even cheaper and more minimalist designs are likely to have multiple sync options for WiFi, music streaming, remote control capabilities, etc.

Conclusion

Although there are significant differences in the power consumption of individual LED strips, they are generally more energy efficient, less expensive and more beneficial to the average consumer than traditional light sources.

In addition, LED strips offer other advantages such as a lower carbon footprint, more individuality and positive effects on mood and health.

What is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)?

Also known as Bluetooth Smart, BLE is part of the Bluetooth 4.0 specification. With Bluetooth 4.0, a dual-mode device such as a smartphone can simultaneously support Bluetooth Classic (BT) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Bluetooth Classic is most commonly used for audio streaming to a device such as a headset. Bluetooth Classic, on the other hand, consumes a lot of power and is always on. BLE is the intelligent, low-power version of Bluetooth wireless technology. BLE uses only a fraction of the power of classic Bluetooth. Bluetooth Smart extends the use of Bluetooth wireless technology to devices that run on small batteries, such as e.g. smartphones. Bluetooth Low Energy is an “always off” technology. It transmits short data packets and does not support audio streaming. This makes it perfect for devices like our LED controller. What makes BLE different is that unlike traditional Bluetooth devices, you do NOT “pair” the controller with your smartphone. If you want to use it, connect to the controller with the APP running on your BLE-equipped smartphone instead. When you’re done, you’ll disconnect. The effective control distance for BLE devices depends on the environment in which they are used, but typical control distances range from 50 feet when used indoors to 100 feet when used outdoors.

Operating Tips and Limitations

The Boogey Lights® Bluetooth APP and Controller have been extensively tested to work on iOS and Android devices equipped with Bluetooth BLE 4.0 technology. Specifically, iPhones running iOS 10 and newer, and Android phones running versions 7.0 and 8.0 have been tested and confirmed to work. If you are using an older OS version than those listed (and your phone is BLE 4.0 capable), the APP will probably still work. Functionality and/or screen layouts may not be fully supported.

The Boogey Lights® Bluetooth Controller can only connect to and control one smartphone at a time.

Press On and the lights will come on at full power. Press Off and the lights will turn off. This will not completely turn off the controller – we highly recommend installing our on/off push button switch as mentioned earlier.

Bluetooth 4.0 is a low energy technology designed to draw very little power from the phone. As a result, the effective distance is limited in how far the phone can be from the controller and still connect. While environmental factors play a big part in determining distance, expect a range of 30 to 50 feet. We’ve tested up to 100 feet and found it to be reliable, but again, environmental factors like walls where the controller is mounted and other electronic devices in the area play a part in the distance equation.

When finished, turn off the light using the smartphone APP (OR – if you have the COMBO controller, you can also use the included wireless radio remote control to turn off the controller). Now you can either tap Disconnect on the setup screen, turn off Bluetooth on your phone, or walk away. Make sure you press the power button to prevent the controller from draining battery power.

Connection and Functionality: If you’re having connectivity and/or functionality issues (and you’ve confirmed that you’ve set everything up correctly), you may want to completely turn off (turn off) both the controller and the smartphone, and then turn them back on. Also make sure that the controller is mounted in a place where the smartphone can communicate with the controller. Mounting the controller in a place surrounded by metal can sometimes interfere with communication between the controller and the smartphone.

Programmable Color Rotation Function: The programmable color rotation function is a complex set of lighting and function instructions that takes longer to transmit (and store) to the controller than a simple color change. Once these instructions have been received by the controller, it may have to iterate through these instructions a time or two before you see the full implementation. Give it time. This delay is more pronounced in the Android operating system than in iOS. In some situations, you may need to press Activate a second time to resend the programming instructions.

Android Specific – Delayed Response: If you are using the Android platform, you will likely notice a delay between when you press a button on the APP and when the controller performs the lighting change you requested. This delay is due to how the Android operating system’s Bluetooth stack is integrated into the hardware. It’s not something we can control through the APP itself. The iOS version responds to commands faster. The delay is more pronounced when using the PROGRAMMABLE COLOR ROTATION feature as it may take longer to send the program instructions to the controller.

Color Picker: If the lights don’t respond immediately when you pick a color, you may need to resend the command. This is especially true in situations where the app hasn’t been used for a minute or two. This is due to BLE Bluetooth’s “Always Off” design.

Color Matching: It is not possible to match every possible color (e.g. Candle White) AND some colors cannot be created at all with RGB LEDs (e.g. Orange). A few reasons:

First, there are different hues of LEDs that are determined by correlated color temperature (CCT), which is measured in degrees Kelvin. The red, green and blue diodes used in our LEDs are the most common in terms of CCT to produce bright, vibrant color combinations across the color spectrum. However, there are shades that cannot be created. For example, the “white” our strips produce is a “day white” (some might call it a cool white). Due to the high Kelvin temperature of the LEDs, they have a slight blue cast. It is not possible to produce candle white, soft/warm white or natural white with these LEDs – all of which have either a yellowish or orange-yellow hue.

Second, in its simplest sense, RGB refers to the visible light colors RED, GREEN, and BLUE. In terms of light physics (not to be confused with ink/varnish colours), red, green and blue are referred to as PRIMARY COLORS. These are colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors (well, that’s actually not entirely true, but for our purposes here, it simplifies things). RGB LEDs create other colors by mixing varying amounts of red with green with blue. Mixing PRIMARY colors creates SECONDARY colors. For example, mixing equal parts GREEN + RED creates YELLOW. In terms of the color of the light spectrum (unlike ink/print colors), YELLOW is a secondary color. To create ORANGE you need to mix a YELLOW and a RED shade. However, since we are already using the RED diode in the LED to make YELLOW (equal parts Green + equal parts Red), the red diode in the LED is not available to make Orange. Only the blue diode is available. The result is that the color orange cannot be created with RGB light.

APP crashes after update? If when trying to update to the latest APP version, the APP crashes on the first launch, the problem is not with the APP itself. The problem is probably still variables in your phone’s memory that are not allowing the APP to launch. To resolve this issue, follow the steps below in this order:

UNINSTALL the existing Boogey Lights APP on your phone. It must be completely uninstalled. Turn off the phone completely. It must be turned off. Not restarted. Power must be off. Turn on the phone. Do not run other APPs when the phone restarts. Go to APP Store and install the latest version of Boogey Lights APP for your device.

At this point you should be able to launch the Boogey Lights APP. If you still can’t get it to work after this, please submit a support ticket with us. We need to know the hardware make and model of your phone. We also need information about the version number of the operating system and the kernel version. We will investigate. In the meantime, if you’re using Android and want to revert to the previous version (10), you can do so by installing the APK file manually. Version 10 of the APK file can be downloaded from our website. If you are interested in this option, let us know and we will provide you with the link and password.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

One of the most commonly used home appliances is the LED light bulb. The LED light bulb has many advantages over other types of light bulbs. It’s more efficient, so it uses less electricity and lasts longer than traditional light bulbs.

However, one disadvantage of LED lights is that they are often difficult to control. Sometimes the brightness or color of an LED light can be changed with a remote control, but sometimes the remote control doesn’t work properly.

If you’re having trouble with your LED light remote control, there are a few things you can do to fix the problem. In this blog post, we will discuss how to reset LED light remote control. If your remote isn’t working properly or you just want to factory reset it, follow these simple instructions!

What causes the LED light remote control not to work?

There are a few reasons why your LED light remote control may not work. One possibility is that the batteries in the remote control are dead and need to be replaced. Another possibility is that the remote control is not properly paired with the LED light.

If you recently replaced the batteries in the remote and it still doesn’t work, try resetting it. If you’re not sure what the problem is, your best bet is to reset the remote.

When should you reset the LED light remote control?

Most people don’t reset their LED light remote, but there are some instances where it might be necessary. If your LED lights start flickering or behaving erratically, resetting the remote may fix the problem.

If you’ve tried changing the batteries and reprogramming the remote but nothing seems to work, resetting is probably your only option. If your LED lights are not receiving the remote control signal properly, a reset will also fix this issue.

Instructions: How to reset the LED light remote control

Method 1: hard reset

If your LED remote control doesn’t respond to any button press, or if the batteries have been replaced and it still doesn’t work, you need to perform a hard reset. Follow these steps to perform a hard reset:

Step 1: Locate the reset button.

The first step is to find the reset button on your remote control. This button is usually small and hidden on the back or side of the remote. You will see a small hole next to the button.

Step 2: Use a paper clip to press the reset button.

Next, grab a paperclip or other small object and insert it near the reset button. Squeeze the paper clip until you feel a slight click. This click means you have successfully pressed the reset button.

Step 3: Press and hold the reset button for 3 seconds.

After pressing the reset button, you need to hold it for three seconds. After three seconds have passed, you can release the reset button and your LED light remote control should reset successfully!

Step 4: Test the remote control.

Now that you’ve reset the remote, it’s time to test it. Turn on your LED light and use the remote control to change the brightness or color. If the remote is working properly, you should be able to control the light without any problems. If not, you may need to try another method.

Method 2: Remove the batteries.

If the first method doesn’t work, you can remove the batteries from the remote control. This might seem strange to reset the remote, but it works quite well. To do this, follow these steps:

Step 1: Remove the batteries.

The first step is to remove the batteries from your LED light remote control. You must do this for both the sender and the receiver.

Step 2: Press and hold the power button.

After removing the batteries, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. This will discharge any residual power remaining in the remote control.

Step 3: Replace the batteries and try again.

After discharging the power supply, you can replace the batteries and try to use the remote control again. This time the remote should reset and work properly.

Method 3: Use the factory reset feature.

If you still cannot get your LED light remote to work, you may need to use the factory reset feature. This is the last resort, but it should reset and use the remote again. To do this, follow these steps:

Step 1: Find the factory reset button.

The first step is to find the factory reset button on your remote control. This button is usually small and hidden on the back or side of the remote. You will see a small hole next to the button.

Step 2: Press the factory reset button.

Once you find the factory reset button, use a paper clip or other pointed object to press and hold the button for 3-5 seconds. You should see the LED light on the remote blinking. This means the remote has been reset and is now ready to be programmed.

Step 3: Follow the programming instructions.

After you reset the remote, you must follow the programming instructions that came with your LED light.

These instructions will vary depending on the make and model of your light, but should be fairly easy to follow. Once you’ve programmed the remote, you should be able to use it to control your LED light without any problems.

If you’ve followed all of these steps and your LED light remote isn’t working, you may need to contact the manufacturer.

Can you operate LED lights without a remote control?

In some cases yes. If your LED lights have a built-in switch, you may be able to operate them without a remote control. However, if your LED lights don’t have a built-in switch, you probably need a remote control to operate them.

Many LED light manufacturers include a remote control with their products, but if you can’t find one, you may need to purchase one separately.

Some tips for controlling your LED lights without a remote control

1. You can easily control your LED lights without a remote by plugging them into a power strip. Once plugged in, you can turn the lights on and off by flipping the switch on the power strip.

2. Another way to control your LED lights without a remote control is to install a dimmer switch. This allows you to adjust the brightness of the lights without having to use a remote control.

3. If you have an older home, you can install a wireless switch that can be controlled with your smartphone. This is a great option if you don’t want to mess with wires or remotes.

4. You can also use microcontrollers to control your LED lights. These devices can be programmed to turn lights on and off at specific times or to respond to specific conditions.

5. If you want to control your LED lights from anywhere in the world, you can install a smart home system. These systems allow you to control your lights (and other devices) via an app on your smartphone.

No matter which method you choose, there are many ways to control your LED lights without a remote. So if you’ve lost your remote or it just doesn’t work, don’t worry! There are many other options available.

Why is my LED strip not working?

Bad Pin Connection – If your LED strip light fails to turn on at all, then check your pin connections. Most likely, the pin is not inserted correctly. In rare cases, the pin is faulty. These tiny connectors are rather delicate items so you have to be very careful when inserting them.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

A bad pin connection also includes a reverse connection or reversed polarity. Typically, one side of the strip light carries a positive charge, denoted by a single dashed line, and the other side has the negative charge, usually denoted with the manufacturer’s logo. The arrow on your connectors should point to the plus sign on your strip lights. RGB or color changing LED strips are particularly prone to this polarity reversal problem. If your RGB light strips aren’t changing color, try flipping and reconnecting your light strip.

Wrong power source – Be sure to check what power source your lighting requires. LED strips are available in 12 or 24 volt versions. A 12 volt strip light is typically used for short runs, e.g. B. for motor vehicles or motorcycles. So many people can skip installing an LED driver and hardwire the lights to a 12 volt DC battery. 24 volt strip lights are better for slightly longer runs, typically in homes for under cabinet and stair lighting, or in RVs. If you don’t power your lights, such as For example, using a 12 volt driver for 24 volt strip lights will likely cause your lights to flicker, dim, or not light up at all. Conversely, overloading your string of lights will cause your lights to feel hot, ultimately causing the wiring to burn and your lights to fail. The output voltage of the driver or transformer must match the input voltage required by your light strip.

Bonus Tips

What is the maximum run length for LED strips?

The maximum length is 16 feet for 12 volt strip lights. Generally, the maximum run length for 24 volt strip lights is also 16 feet. However, due to the higher tension, you might be able to squeeze out a foot or two in length.

How do I fix my LED controller?

How to Fix It
  1. Disconnect the power from the LED strip.
  2. Remove the remote battery.
  3. Unplug the dimming wire (LED controller) from both ends.
  4. Replug the LED controller and reinstall the batteries.

4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Control When You Lose Your LED Light Strip Remote

LED lights are one of the best ways to add a touch of subtlety and personalization to your space. They usually come in large rolls and can be easily controlled with a remote control.

The problem is that in some cases the LED light bar remote control might not work, which can be quite frustrating!

To help you diagnose and fix the problem, I’m going to walk you through some best practices to address the issue and take back control of your LED light strip. Let’s dive right in!

Top 5 reasons why LED light remote controls may stop working

The first thing you need to do is make sure that your LED strip itself is not faulty.

Just unplug the whole system and plug it back in and make sure it lights up in all colors or try it with a spare remote.

If they work fine, here are some of the reasons why your remote control isn’t working and possible solutions to the problem:

1. The battery is empty

LED strip remote controls can be stored for a long time before you buy them, so the battery can be drained if it is not completely sealed with the tiny plastic wrap (to prevent electrons from flowing out of the battery during idle time).

If your remote control has an indicator light, you will find that it does not light up when you press the buttons.

how to fix it

The solution here is to simply replace the old battery with a new one.

The vast majority of these batteries use CR2025 batteries, which are affordable and widely available.

2. The remote control has unpaired itself

Just like with remote controls for ceiling fans and other devices, it’s important to make sure everyone is friends.

Most LED strip remote controls have a relatively unstable pairing system where they will unpair themselves from the LED strip receiver if the battery level is low or the connection is loose.

In this case, the high beams would work fine, but the LED strip does not respond at all.

how to fix it

Disconnect the power supply from the LED strip. Remove the remote control battery. Disconnect the dimmer cable (LED controller) from both ends. Plug the LED controller back in and reinsert the batteries blinks once (this step may change depending on the pairing instructions in your manual)

3. The LED controller needs to be reprogrammed

If you are using a 44 or 24 button LED strip remote, the LED may respond to the remote but some or all colors will be incorrect.

In this case, the remote control should be fine and paired with your LED light strip. However, the LED controller itself must be reprogrammed.

how to fix it

Start by unplugging and plugging the LED controller back in (this isn’t strictly necessary for the reprogramming process, but you should do it just in case the loose connection is causing the problem). Press the color “RED” on the remote control. (The LED lights should be a different color than red, but this should be resolved by the end of this guide.) Press the “OFF” button. Whether you’re using a 24 or 44 button LED strip remote, you should press the button in the bottom right corner, which is usually the “FADE7” button. Turn the light back on with the “ON” button, then press the “RED” color again. Repeat the process until the red lights come on when you press “RED” on the remote control.

4. The remote control signal is disturbed

Most remote controls use radio frequency (RF) waves to operate. Unlike infrared (IR) remote controls, these waves are typically susceptible to signal interference from other devices that emit the same types of waves.

how to fix it

Readjust the LED controller receiver or replace the battery with a new one to solve the problem

5. The remote chip is defective

If all else fails, the remote control is simply defective or the chip has an irreversible malfunction.

how to fix it

You need to buy a new remote control and pair it as in “Section 2”.

Luckily, these remotes are extremely affordable and available, so finding a compatible one shouldn’t be difficult.

frequently asked Questions

How long do the LED strip remote control batteries last?

This depends on the type of batteries used in your remote control.

Ideally, CR2025 batteries (button cell batteries) are expected to last between 4 and 6 months on a full charge.

AAA batteries typically only last 2 to 3 months.

How do you open the led strip remote control?

In most cases, you’ll need to pinch the black tab on the bottom corner of the back of the remote and push outward to pull it out.

Wrap up

There you have it! A quick guide to walk you through all the possible reasons why your LED strip light remote control may not be working.

While such a problem can be frustrating, you should get the job done by simply going through each of the possible reasons mentioned above.

Regardless, LED strip remotes are easy to swap out so you don’t have to worry too much about them anyway!

The Best LED Light Strips of 2022

LED light strips are long circuit boards with surface mounted light emitting diodes (SMD-LEDs) that brighten up any room. Also known as LED tape or tape lights, the strips usually have an adhesive backing for easy installation.

Some of the best LED strip lighting options can be used for many different interior design projects including recessed lighting, TV backlighting, or kitchen countertop lighting with under cabinet lighting.

We’ve tested each of the light strips on this list to see how they work. Each one has been selected based on quality, functionality and attractive design. In addition to evaluating how well the light strips worked, we looked at the strength of the adhesives, app functionality, brightness, and ease of installation. Read on to see which lights shone above the rest and discover some of the best LED light brands.

What to Consider When Choosing the Best LED Strip Lights

There are many features to consider when shopping for the best LED strips, from color and size to purpose and brightness. Before purchasing an LED light strip, consider the following factors to ensure your choice meets or exceeds your expectations for the intended application.

location

It is important to determine where the LED light strip will be installed before making a decision on a product. Some designs serve specific purposes, such as B. Staircase lighting or TV backlighting. Because of this specialization, they differ from the average LED light bar. For example, a product intended for the backlight of a TV may come with four pre-cut pieces and TV-specific sync options that change color to mimic the colors on the screen.

Other location considerations include water resistance for patios, dimmer compatibility for bedrooms, or motion detection for a hallway, bathroom, or stairwell. Even a more general installation of LED strips for ceilings or walls requires some thought before making your purchase, lest you end up with a specialty product that isn’t meant for the intended space.

length

Light bars are available in a variety of lengths, typically from 1 to 32 feet. Brightness and purpose usually correlate with their length. For example, LED light strips intended for TV backlighting or use on stairs tend to be shorter for easier installation.

Low brightness LED light bars can be up to 32 feet long with about 300 LED lights. High brightness LED light bars can have the same number of LED modules, but they’re typically only about 16 feet long. However, most flexible LED strips can be cut with scissors to accommodate small areas. If a longer LED strip is required, pieces can often be joined to adjust it to the desired length.

flexibility

Most light strips have a flexible circuit board that can bend around corners or run over curved surfaces. Some LED light strips are so flexible that they can be bent up to 90 degrees without damaging the circuit board.

However, as the performance of an LED light bar increases, so does its flexibility, with some light bars being designed to be completely rigid. These inflexible products are typically much shorter, sometimes as little as 30cm long, and significantly brighter than the average light strip. They can also be equipped with motion detection technology, making them ideal for lighting stairs.

brightness

The brightness of an LED light strip is measured in lumens per meter or LM and is determined by the density of the LED lights within 1 meter.

It can be difficult to figure out the brightness, and some manufacturers don’t provide this information. The average brightness of the light strip can be determined based on the LED density. Average light strips come in two densities: Standard Density (SD) at 30 LEDs per meter (9.1 LEDs/ft) or High Density (HD) at 60 LEDs per meter (18.3 LEDs/ft).

Standard Density (SD) light bars produce an average of 540 LM and require 27 watts of power. They can be as long as 32.8 feet. High Density (HD) light bars provide an average of 1,080 LM and require 40 watts of power and have a maximum length of 16.4 feet.

color and color temperature

The color of a light stripe is crucial to note. Some light strips are only available in one color, while others can have a color range numbering in the millions. Which color option you choose is entirely down to personal preference.

Color temperature is measured in degrees Kelvin (K) and describes how warm or cool a light’s color appears, and lower numbers indicate warmer color temperatures. The soft glow of an average incandescent bulb has a warm temperature of 2,700K, while natural daylight is much cooler, averaging 6,500K.

perfomance

Wattage is a measure of how much energy the light strip requires to operate at its optimal brightness. When a light strip requires more energy than the power source can supply, it will not function properly and often produces a much dimmer light. LED light strips operate on batteries, with power supplies that plug into outlets, or are wired directly into the home’s electrical system.

LED light strips with lower brightness requirements, such as a 540 LM strip also have lower wattage requirements. As brightness needs increase, so do power requirements, with a 16.4-foot standard-density light strip requiring 27 watts and a 16.4-foot high-density LED light strip requiring 40 watts.

operation

In years past, LED light strips have been hardwired into the electrical system to work with a light switch, or plugged into an outlet and controlled with a button. However, LED light bars have come a long way from their original design.

Light strips are available that can be connected to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, remote controls or mobile phone apps. These controls can be used to adjust brightness and color, program the lights to sync with music, or set schedules for waking up, coming home from work, or falling asleep.

LED light strips that connect to smart home ecosystems like Amazon Alexa or Google Home can even be controlled via voice commands, while simpler, single-color options might just have a remote control to turn the light on or off.

Our top picks

No matter what type of LED light bar you need, finding a quality product is a common goal. To make your search easier, we’ve tested a variety of LED light bars and based on our testing, selected the following options as some of the best available based on the above purchase factors, price, effectiveness and reputation. The 540LM illumination is perfect for setting the mood behind a TV while playing a favorite game or curling up to watch a scary movie. You don’t have to worry about wattage as the light strip connects directly to a TV via a USB port. If a TV doesn’t have a USB port, plug an adapter into the outlet. Choose from 16 different colors or dim the light with the included remote control. However, keep in mind that this light strip kit is only suitable for TV or computer monitors and probably isn’t a good option for other situations. Pangton Villa’s LED strips were easy to install and never lost their grip during our testing. They offer subdued accent lighting, making them our pick for best TV LED light strips as they are perfect for backlighting a TV. The remote isn’t difficult to use, although there’s sort of a guess as to what each button does. The light bars are divided into sections with flexible connectors so that they can be adapted to a TV. Motion-Activated Pick 4 Cotanic Motion Sensor LED Cabinet Light Photo: amazon.com Check current price The Cotanic motion sensor LED light strip isn’t as flexible as most other light strips. It offers a 10-foot range for the motion sensor to detect movement and turn on the LED light strip automatically. After 18 seconds of inactivity within the 10-foot range, the light strip turns off. The high-density light strip can be attached or detached from its magnetic mount for easy charging via a USB port, eliminating the need for electrical cables. The ultra-thin design is perfect for a dark hallway or stairway to provide illumination in the darkest hours while remaining unobtrusive on your feet. The anti-glare diffusion panel makes it an ideal nighttime guide, preventing users from being blinded when it activates automatically. This light was a mystery in our testing. We tested it in an office and attached it to a stall above a desk. The motion sensor didn’t work for the first few days. It has three settings – on, off and automatic. No matter how much walking, flapping, or waving we did, it didn’t turn on when set to Auto until about 5 days after testing. Suddenly the motion sensor worked and did so beautifully for the next week. Despite sensor issues, this light’s design was one of our favorites. It is attached via self-adhesive magnetic mounts. Take the light out of the holders to charge it and it can be attached to any magnetic surface. We loved the bright light and would replace a desk lamp with it to save space. ALSO TESTED:

We also tested the Philips Hue Bluetooth Smart Lightstrip and the Monster 6.5-Foot Multicolor LED Light, but neither passed the test. The Philips offered the brightest and best quality bulbs we tested. Unfortunately, this product had serious Bluetooth connectivity issues that rendered it unusable. Check out our full review here.

The Monster Lightstrip had sticking issues. First, the backing would only partially peel off, leaving a quarter of the light stripe non-tacky. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get the rest of a section’s support. Eventually we installed the rest of the light strip but it fell off within 24 hours. We even tried supporting the rest of the strip with a support clip from another light strip, but the lights still fell. Bad glue rendered these lights unusable.

Our verdict

Govee manufactures high quality, reliable light bars. The Govee Smart LED Strip became our top pick for best LED strips because of its easy control, easy connectivity and the millions of colors available. While the others on our list worked well, this one was our favorite.

How we tested the best LED light bars

We looked at LED strip reviews and tested a variety of light strips against a set rubric that included criteria for lighting, installation, performance and durability. After rating the lights on a scale of 0 to 4, we calculated their rating.

Depending on the design, light strips were installed in a kitchen or on a television. The manufacturer’s installation and operating instructions have been followed. The tests took place over a period of 2½ weeks to give us a closer look at the functionality and adhesion of the light strips. We connected the lights to the associated apps and tested the features to find out not only their usefulness, but also their functionality in everyday life.

Based on the characteristics of each product, we set lighting plans, created lighting themes, and varied how and when the lights were used. Installing the lights in real-life situations allowed us to get an idea of how well they work overall and what individual settings work best.
