Whether it’s a classic “baby” or a more unique pet name, pet names are divisive. Some people find them cute and funny, others find them childish and embarrassing.
However, it turns out that using pet names can do more than just make people cringe around you — couples who use affectionate names for each other seem more likely to have a strong relationship.
The latest research supporting this conclusion was carried out by Superdrug Online Doctor. In a survey of over 1,000 adults, researchers found that 87% of Americans use pet names in relationships (compared to 74% of Europeans), and those who do are 16% more likely to be happy in their relationship.
Additionally, men (85%) actually use pet names more often than women (76%).
Specifically, the study found that 90% of Americans who use nicknames like “beautiful,” “gorgeous,” and “sweetheart” for their partners were satisfied with their relationship, compared to just 56% of couples who don’t use pet names at all .
However, the study also revealed which names are despised the most: “Daddy” emerged as the worst, with 73% of people saying they hate it. Closely followed by “Daddy” (72%), “Süßbacken” (66%) and “Muffin” (61%).
Among Europeans, the pet name correlated with the happiest relationship was German “Schatz,” followed by “cutie” and “hun.” Meanwhile, in the US, “pretty” comes first, followed by “beautiful” and “gorgeous”.
The use of pet names was found to increase relationship satisfaction by 9% in Europe and 16% in the US.

The study’s conclusions aren’t entirely new, though — scientists have long linked the use of pet names to the childhood love we have for our parents.
“Couples who speak like this recall their own experiences as young children and their first love, their mother,” Dean Falk, a professor of neuroanthropology at Florida State University, told Broadly.
Another study, published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships in 1993, analyzed 154 couples to examine the correlation between pet name idioms and relationship satisfaction.
The research found that satisfied husbands and wives used more idioms than dissatisfied ones.

Pet Names for Male Sub
It’s always nice when your friend likes the nickname you give them. I mean, will they faint if you call them “sugar butts” in front of their boss? Probably not. But calling him other nicknames like “Prince” or “Casanova” might make her boys a little jealous. Nicknames are meant to be endearing and to reflect your relationship and understanding of one another. A nickname isn’t that big of a deal, but it does carry some weight.
So maybe you just got into a relationship that you know will likely last longer than a few dates. Should You Take the Jump to Nicknames? It’s your choice, not ours, but if you’re looking for inspiration for cute names to call your friend, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve listed a ton of cute aliases to get you started.

One more thing to note
Look for nicknames that have a touch of meaning. Maybe you call your friend by his first and middle names (“Tommy Lee”) instead of what everyone else calls him (“Tommy”). Another unique and personal option is initials like “CRA”. But it’s even more fun and sweeter when the meaning goes a bit deeper. Maybe you call him “puppy” because he sounds like a panting puppy at night when he snuggles against your neck?
What is his job and how can you make this title more personal? Chef Tommy could become “Chef Boyfriend” or even “Chef Dada” if you share a child. Sometimes embarrassing nicknames are fun. If a misunderstanding of a toy mixed with your guy’s bathroom issues leads to “poopslinky,” so be it. Just keep in mind that while he might find it silly if it’s just the two of you, he might be embarrassed if it slips out in front of company. At the end of the day, choose a nickname that will make him smile, not flinch.

Pet Names for Male Sub
You want to express enough affection without turning them off or making them feel like you’re not real.
There may even be certain terms that they just don’t like in general.
Luckily, there are a few names and terms you can tell your boyfriend or male friend that should please him.
Here are 25 names boys like to be called.
What do boys like to be called? (Top 25 Names)
1. Handsome
One of the best things to name your boyfriend, or even a platonic friend, is handsome.
Calling a man handsome in a romantic relationship makes him feel good.
It also strengthens your relationship because it tells them that you find them physically attractive.
This can be a big ego boost as guys often think they have a lot of competition or standards that they have to meet.
Platonically, calling your male friend handsome is also a great idea.
If your friend is feeling down or insecure, telling them they look good can be a great way to improve their mood.
2.Sexy
There’s no question a guy likes it when someone calls him sexy.
It’s a step above good looking and can make them feel really close to their romantic partner.
If you want to get your partner in the mood or feel confident, then calling them sexy is a good place to start.
As their confidence improves, so does their performance.
3. Charming
When a guy hears that he’s charming, it also acts as a great confidence booster.
To be charming, you must have the right kind of emotional intelligence to grasp your conversational partner.
By understanding body language, you can steer the conversation in a way that keeps them engaged and interested.
Knowing how to make someone laugh is another element of charm.
Telling your romantic partner that they’re charming can help them feel confident when they’re trying to flirt with you.
Among friends, telling your male friend that he’s charming can give him the confidence he needs to talk to someone he’s romantically interested in for the first time.
4. Funny
When someone tells you you’re funny, that’s a huge compliment.
It’s not easy being funny, especially in a large group of people who have different kinds of humor.
But when someone tells a guy he’s funny, he’ll definitely like it.
It feels good to make someone laugh, and when someone recognizes your talent for humor, it feels good to recognize that too.
Telling a guy he’s funny is a great compliment that both romantic partners and friends can give.
5. Big
For some reason, there’s a lot of male obsession with being tall or having someone say they’re tall.
Whether it’s because of the confused notion that potential partners prefer taller romantic partners, or because they just want to play basketball better, guys like being tall.
Whether they’re tall or not, there’s no harm in telling someone they’re tall.
After all, there’s always a good chance they’re taller than someone else.
Telling a man he’s tall will boost his confidence and make him feel good.
6. Babies
If the guy you’re talking to is your romantic partner, then he’d appreciate it if you called him babe or baby.
It is a beautiful term that softens the relationship and makes each other cute.
Babe or baby is a romantic term that some couples use for each other.
However, it is often associated only with the female side of a heterosexual couple.
In a heterosexual relationship, it’s perfectly acceptable for the woman to also call the man babe or baby.
Guys like it because it makes them feel special and loved.
They feel they belong and are close to their partner.
It also works beautifully in a compliment.
7. Husband
Regardless of whether the relationship is straight or gay, every man likes the term husband.
When their partner calls them husband, they feel very close to them.
It’s a title they’re proud of because it means they belong to you and you belong to them.
Technically, you could also use this term among friends.
The terms “wife” and “husband” are often used ironically between friends to indicate that they are each other’s best friends.
Again, it’s a way of creating that closeness and intimacy between two people.
Regardless of the relationship, guys enjoy it when their partner calls them husband.
8. Love of my life
While some may groan at this, calling your male romantic partner the love of your life is another thing a man would love to hear.
It may seem overly sweet, but that kind of indulgent affection can mean a lot.
One reason guys like being called the love of your life is that it reinforces their place and worth in your world.
Everyone has friends and family who hold important positions in someone’s life.
Because of this, it can make romantic partners feel like they are not a priority.
Doing something as simple as calling your partner the love of your life reinforces that value.
9. Fit
A lot of guys enjoy having their physicality recognized.
Some guys spend a lot of time perfecting their looks.
Recognizing their hard work can make them feel good and help them stay motivated to keep up the good work.
One way to acknowledge their hard work is to call them fit.
This term means that the guy looks athletic and muscular.
There are different spectrums of fitness, but even simply calling a man fit can do a lot for his ego.
This term is ideal for romantic partners and friends with their male friends.
10. Strong
If you want to be a little more specific about your man when it comes to fitness, you can always call him strong.
Guys like it when they are called strong because it once again recognizes their physical level.
It’s a compliment that tells them their strength is recognized and appreciated.
Strength doesn’t have to mean their physical strength either.
It can also refer to their mental toughness.
Telling a man that he is strong could mean that he is able to face difficult situations and do well.
They keep a cool head under pressure or stress.
Calling a man strong is ideal for romantic partners and friends.
11. Smart
While many men like it when someone recognizes and appreciates their physicality, they also like it when their intelligence or personality receives equal attention.
Almost anyone can become strong.
Not everyone can be intelligent or flaunt their intelligence.
A guy likes when someone calls him intelligent because it makes him stand out in a way that few others can.
Just as someone labels them fit or handsome, they also get an ego and confidence boost when someone labels them intelligent.
Romantic partners and friends can call their male friends intelligent and make them feel good about themselves.
12. Sweet
If you call a guy cute, they might dispute such a claim.
Cuteness is often reserved for the fairer or softer sex.
However, deep down, boys also like it when someone calls them cute.
It’s not a compliment they hear often.
Whether it’s because of a certain behavioral trait that you adore, or because she’s doing something physical that you find adorable, calling your friend or partner cute is something they’re sure to enjoy.
Just prepare for an instant rebuttal from them as to why they’re not cute.
13. Honey
Another pet name boys like is honey.
Between romantic partners, honey can make them feel warm and desired by you.
It’s a term you don’t typically use with anyone but children.
As such, it becomes a personal term between the two of you.
Whenever you call it honey, the term makes you feel closer and special.
As with any term of endearment, feel free to add a few other words to keep the term fresh.
Honey cake, honey cake and honey bunny are just a few examples you can use.
This will both annoy him and endear you to him.
14th age
Though slang terms come and go, a lot of guys still enjoy it when people call them dude.
This is especially popular with friends or strangers.
There’s not much vulnerability at stake when someone says age.
This is why guys like it, as they don’t have to have any particular attitude towards the person using it or towards the word itself.
If your group of friends is still growing closer together, using a term like dude can be a safe way to communicate.
Guys like to be called dude because it’s safe and easy.
15. Brother
Similar to dude, the term bro is another word guys like.
Especially among friends, the term bro can almost be a form of endearment.
In this case, it’s short for brother, and between friends, such connections are close and slightly more fragile than when using dude.
However, guys don’t necessarily like it when a stranger calls them bro.
It can take on an offensive or aggressive meaning.
That is, among friends, boys like it when they are called brother.
16. Tigers
One way to get your romantic partner in the mood and excited is to name them Tiger.
This may be a bit embarrassing for some, but the term tiger suggests original sexuality.
You can make a guy feel like a stud in the bedroom by calling him a tiger.
You can also use the term affectionately.
If your partner is someone who is protective of their family, then Tiger is a suitable name for them as well.
Tigers have a reputation for being strong and primal.
Associating your partner with a tiger can make them feel like you see them that way.
If they know you see them that way, they’re more likely to see themselves that way, too.
17. Heartthrob
Heartthrobs are individuals who are attracted to many people.
You have the right looks, personality and attitude that attract people naturally.
When you call your male partner a heartthrob, you are essentially telling him that he is at the top of the food chain in terms of attractiveness.
Guys like it when their partners call them heartthrobs because it makes them feel attractive and sexy.
Anyone can be handsome, but few men can be a heartthrob.
If you want to make your partner feel like they’re on top of the world, call them a heartthrob.
18. Naughty
Guys who have a sense of humor like to be called naughty.
It makes them feel evil.
Being called naughty is almost like a term of endearment in itself.
However, since you call her naughty, this inspires a playful and sexy vibe rather than just a loving vibe.
19th Stud
Another great term guys like is stud.
If you want your partner to feel sexy, stud is the word.
Every man wants to be a stud.
When your partner calls you a stud, it can do wonders for your ego and confidence.
It’s also a great way to tease your partner and embarrass them in front of others when they deserve it.
If you want your lover to feel great, then call him a stud.
20. Big guy
Boys often like to feel masculine, powerful and strong.
There’s no better way to feel this way than when someone calls you big.
It indicates that you are great and powerful.
It is also affectionate and can make a man feel warm and loving in return.
The word inspires her protective instinct and makes her feel closer to her lover.
Big Guy is also suitable for friends who want to tease their boyfriend.
For example, if they’re acting a little too harshly, using the word is a gentle way of telling them to calm down.
21. Your own name
Whatever the reason, guys also enjoy it when their partners use their real names.
There is a sense of vulnerability when someone uses your name.
It is different when a lover uses it than when a friend or family member uses it.
It’s like there’s a special meaning between the two of you.
Because of this, some guys like it when their partners just use their names.
22. Big Daddy
One term that has skyrocketed in popularity is daddy.
A variant of this is Big Daddy.
The use of this term between romantic partners evokes feelings of protection and sexuality.
It makes guys feel big, manly and sexy.
It also makes them feel protective and nurturing of their partner.
Not all guys are into the term, but quite a few enjoy it enough to become part of everyday slang.
If you want to make your partner feel sexy and masculine, then you might want to try the term with them, too.
23. Champions
Boys are constantly pushed to win.
Whether it’s winning the promotion, winning the affiliate, or just winning the next level of their favorite game, they’re always competing.
However, they may not always feel like a winner.
You can help them feel like a winner by calling them Champion.
Guys like being called champions because it makes them feel like a winner.
It confirms that they are doing something right.
Champ is something both romantic partners and friends can use.
With friends, it’s a great term for keeping up each other’s spirits and celebrating one’s past accomplishments.
24. boy
At the other end of the spectrum from Big Daddy is the boy.
This is a term that some men like to hear in the early stages of dating.
The term boy makes them feel smaller rather than taller, but that’s not always a bad thing.
Some guys like to be the one being cared for instead of being the one doing the care.
When their partners add a possessive word with boy, like “my,” they make them feel like they belong with you, too.
In return, they feel like they belong.
Boy is a great first affectionate nickname to use with a guy because it’s cute, soft, and a bit silly.
25. Mr
Although it may seem formal, guys also like it when people call them Mister.
That’s because it makes them feel like a gentleman.
It is also teasing in nature.
It’s also a rarer moniker, making it special between a couple.
If you want to make your man feel like a gentleman, call him Mister.
What Should You Name a Guy When You First Start Dating?
The first few weeks of a relationship are one of the most difficult parts of dating.
You’re still getting to know each other and building your attraction to one another.
You may have started referring to each other as partners, but you may be unsure of what terms are appropriate at this stage in your relationship.
Before the “I love you” begins, you may be unsure which nicknames are ideal and which are too soon too many.
Here are a few things to name a man when you first date him.
1. Big guy
Big Guy is affectionate, but not so vulnerable or cute that it makes anyone uncomfortable.
It does the job of making your partner feel warm towards you, but it doesn’t overwhelm them with a sweetness they’re not ready for.
2nd boy
Another great term is boy, especially my boy.
Making that term possessive lays the foundation for exclusivity.
It also gets them thinking about you as their partner
The term itself is light and cute enough not to make a fuss unless they’re ready for something heavier in terms of nicknames.
3. Boo
A final name suitable for the early stages of dating is Boo.
Boo actually comes from the word brother, although some believe it’s a shortened version of friend.
Nonetheless, it has acquired a meaning of its own in today’s slang.
Boo basically means your partner or loved one.
As it is colloquial and used between friends as well as romantic partners, it is safe to use in the early stages of dating.
Conclusion
Knowing the right way to call your friend or partner can help them feel a certain way.
Whether you want to boost her mood, boost her confidence, or make her feel desired and sexy, with the right nickname or word you can do it.
Try the names and words above to see what kind of reaction you get from your friend or partner.

Strange Dog Names
Sometimes a quirky TV show character or a funny animal name just doesn’t cut it. Sometimes you’ll have a furry sidekick that’s so odd, so out of the ordinary that a traditional name — no matter how unusual — just won’t do. If that’s the case, as Hunter S. Thompson put it, “When things get weird, the weird turns pro.”
What is a pet name for a boyfriend?
If you’re in a relationship, it’s not unusual to give your partner nicknames, including but not limited to: bae, baby, my love, boo, sweetheart, etc.
Pet Names for Male Sub
“Giving a nickname creates vulnerability on both sides,” explains Dr. Chloe Carmichael, a member of the Women’s Health Advisory Board, a New York-based clinical psychologist and author of . “The nickname is an expression of the giver’s affection, while accepting the nickname is an expression of the recipient’s vulnerability.” Nicknames are also meant to be, well, humorous, Carmichael explains, and they often characterize the other person in an endearing light. (Like calling your partner “Pookie Bear” or “Baby Boy” when no one is looking…)
In short, nicknames imply a deep level of trust and intimacy, says Carmichael. This means they are not necessary to keep your ship afloat. So don’t pressure yourself into making sure you and your partner have nicknames for each other, advises Gigi Engle, a board-certified sex coach, sexologist, and author of . “Nicknames aren’t for everyone, and they’re not a crucial thing in relationships. People show affection in many ways,” says Engle.
Oh, and one more thing: make sure your partner really likes the nickname you gave them. “Whatever you do, don’t push the envelope, but be respectful and stop using a nickname you don’t like,” says Janet Brito, PhD, a clinical psychologist and board-certified sex therapist based in Hawaii . “If the nickname gives you a sense of space — it makes you feel alive, it makes you smile — then it’s a good nickname.”

Whats the difference in daddy and Zaddy?
While a daddy is an attractive older man, a zaddy is a man “with swag” who is attractive and also fashionable. It appears that it has less to do with age. Zayn Malik, previously of One Direction, is a popular zaddy. Ryan Reynolds is also likely a zaddy.
Pet Names for Male Sub
The hard-hitting, rap-centric Side A alternates between the icy, anxious vibes of 2015’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and the rich production of 2013’s Nothing Was the Same; the sung tracks on Side B stretch back to moody, late-night Take Care, though it sounds less like a lonely second grader and more like a lunatic whose heart isn’t completely frozen over.
– Jamieson Cox, Pitchfork, July 2, 2018
Whether you are a “zaddy” or not is of course in the eye of the beholder.
The best way to describe what a zaddy might be is to read how others describe you. For example:
A zaddy is a guy you look at and think, zamn, zaddy… Instantly you know in your heart who isn’t a zaddy. It’s an instinctive reaction that doesn’t deserve to be explained in detail because you’re just supposed to feel it. Not only is the topic conventionally “hot” — he’s a zaddy. In other words, there’s an inner madness. (The Rock is nice and built, but not a Zaddy in my eyes. Neither is Nicholas Cage.)
— Clover Hope, Jezebel, June 17, 2017 While a daddy is an attractive older man, a zaddy is a man “with swag” who is attractive and also fashionable. That doesn’t seem to have anything to do with age. Zayn Malik, formerly of One Direction, is a popular zaddy. Ryan Reynolds is probably a zaddy too.
– Justin Kirkland, Esquire, June 15, 2018
The word recalls its rhyming noun daddy, which along with grandpa can also mean “one who is the first, earliest, or most venerable of his kind,” apart from its familiar parental sense. However, there is no indication that zaddy must refer exclusively to one parent. Many of the handsome men – mostly celebrity types – who have been dubbed zaddies are not fathers. Actors Chris Pine, Idris Elba, and Jon Hamm seem to be on a lot of zaddy lists, whatever that’s worth.
The daddy, presumably rendered here, is a less literal interpretation than ‘father’, although perhaps bearing the influence of terms such as sugar daddy, describing a wealthy man who supports or spends lavishly on a partner. A zaddy seems to have that certain something that combines looks, confidence and charm.
The word seemed to catch on after the release of rapper Ty Dolla $ign’s single “Zaddy” in August 2016, a month before the September release of his mixtape Campaign. The lyrics allude, among other things, to a wealthy man who offers financial support to his lover: “She love to go shoppin’ in Paris / She keep on callin’ me zaddy … she got zaddy runnin’ up a budget on her.”
But Zaddy became particularly prominent earlier this year, on Jan. 30, when rapper Blac Chyna used it in an Instagram caption following her arrest for public intoxication. The term appeared to allude to Rob Kardashian, who Blac Chyna was dating at the time, but a report on the post suggested zaddy was already a term familiar to the author:
Blac also took to Instagram and shared a meme that read #FreeChyna and she seemed to be referring to Rob’s support as she captioned it, “If zaddy gotta hold you no matter what.” Zaddy is a slang term for an attractive man.
— Zoe Shenton, The Mirror (UK), January 30, 2016
While its influence is uncertain (and highly unlikely), it is worth noting that zayde (spelled alternately zaide, zaydee and zaydeh) means “grandfather” in Yiddish and is often used as a nickname for one’s grandfather.
In conclusion, what we can say is that Zaddy is certainly attractive and fashionable. Whether it has the means to cover the running budget (i.e. widespread, sustainable, and sensible use) or is just here from dusk to dawn remains to be seen.
Words We’re Watching talks about words we’re increasingly using but haven’t yet met our inclusion criteria.
What do you call your lover in bed?
More than 1 in 3 men used “baby” in bed, while nearly as many women preferred not to use pet names at all during sex. Pet names including “baby,” “babe,” and “honey” were the most popular nicknames used in the bedroom among ladies and gents.
Pet Names for Male Sub
Affectionate Labels Before you get sentimental about the pet names in your relationship, research has a lot to say about why we use nicknames in the first place and what they might reveal about a couple’s emotional connection. It may feel strange to know that scientists link the use of pet names to our parents’ childhood love, but studies also suggest that these nicknames (like inside jokes) are strong clues that the relationship is strong enough to even have them. Almost 3 in 4 Europeans and 87 percent of Americans told us they use pet names in their relationships. More common among men than women, 85 percent of men and 76 percent of women found their own special something to call their boyfriend, girlfriend, and spouse. However, as we’ll explore below, not all pet names are created equal, and some can be particularly horrid.
How did you call me? People admitted which pet names they liked the least, and two similar nicknames topped the list: “Daddy” and “Daddy.” No matter how much you love your significant other, he might not want to hear a reference to your dad, especially when things get hot and heavy. Voted the worst pet name on our list, 73 percent of men and women agreed “Daddy” should be kept on the radio and out of the bedroom. Other commonly uncomfortable pet names included “sweet cheeks,” “muffin,” “sweet tart,” “sweet pea,” and “princess.” These overly affectionate nicknames were among the least popular pet names, according to more than half of the respondents. Looking for a safer bet? Stick to names like “sweetheart,” “beautiful,” and “sweetheart,” which tend to bother fewer people.
Sexy Pseudonyms Talking to your partner in the bedroom, whether it’s “dirty” or intimate, can be a fun, complimentary come-on for many. Oftentimes, the language used in sexual scenarios can include romantic and/or kinky pet names. More than 1 in 3 men used “baby” in bed, while almost as many women chose not to use pet names at all during sex. Pet names like “baby”, “baby” and “honey” were the most popular nicknames used in the bedroom by ladies and gentlemen. Studies have shown that men value intimate conversations not only because they can lead to sex, but also because these emotional connections can help make sex more meaningful. “Sweet cheeks,” “daddy,” or “sweet pea” are the last nicknames you’ll hear thrown around during sex, and were used less than 5% of the time by both Americans and Europeans.
Daddy Issues While a whopping 72 percent of all 1,026 respondents despised the name “daddy” as a term of endearment for general relationships, 12 percent of Americans reported using “daddy” in the bedroom with their partners. On the other hand, the vast majority of Europeans avoid the term in and out of the bedroom. Only 3 percent of people originating from the EU had ever chosen to use “daddy” in the bedroom. Even if “daddy” isn’t your thing in everyday romantic life, there’s a (small) chance it’s your thing in the bedroom, regardless of your nationality. There’s also a chance that the concept of erotic pet names in general isn’t for you. Fortunately, if you’re still interested in bringing dirty talk into your sex life, there are a wealth of phrases, words, and pointers to read through and try out with your partner. If you’re not quite sure where to start, there are many resources and suggestions available to give you a little inspiration.
The relationship experts at Language of Love usually have good things to say about the power of pet names. They’ve explained that they can signify strong emotional connections, but what exactly do these nicknames (or lack thereof) really say about how happy we are with our significant other? Among respondents, couples who used pet names were more likely to be satisfied in their relationship than those who didn’t. American couples who used pet names were 16 percent more likely to be satisfied in their relationships, while European pet names were 9 percent more likely to be relationship satisfied. In America, 90 percent or more of people who used the terms “pretty,” “beautiful,” and “gorgeous” were satisfied with their partner, while only 56 percent of those who did not use pet names were satisfied. In Europe, the most pleasant pet names were slightly different. 93 percent of Europeans who use “Schatz” to affectionately address their partner (an expression commonly used in Germany for “meine Liebe” or “darling”) felt satisfied with their relationship, followed by “sweetness” ( 90 percent), “pretty” (90 percent) and “beautiful” (89 percent). In contrast to Americans, 62 percent of Europeans who did not use pet names were still satisfied with their relationship.
Same name, different person Pet names are often considered satisfying among lovers because they act as a secret love language. That is, of course, unless you’ve also used your partner’s current nickname with an ex. 44 percent of men and 36 percent of women admitted to using pet names from one relationship to the next. These personal marks or expressions are meant to be intimate and private between couples, but that didn’t stop 2 out of 5 people from converting the same labels of affection from one person to another. Perhaps it’s best to consider new names for each lover to get the full range of emotional benefits from establishing pet names with your partner – after all, you’d probably hate getting them mixed up. Even if your pet name differs from our most popular list, it can be worth calling your partner a unique name, all your own.

What Should a Dom Call You?
As a submissive partner in a sub/dom relationship, you may be wondering what name your partner should use when addressing you.
In these relationships, the titles used tend to be extreme — they could be the cutest, most endearing, and flattering names, but they could also be exceedingly mean and dehumanizing. It’s also common to find people in relationships where the sub has relinquished all control and is therefore not even allowed to decide on the name that the dominant partner should use. While some people like the friendly little names, others are at home with humiliating titles.
This article provides some unique name suggestions for a Dom to call you and how to come up with such submissive names.
How to come up with submissive names
There are many ways a sub can submit to the dom, and one of the most important is the name the former uses to address the latter. If the dom is male, you’ll find the sub with titles like master, king, lord, duke, etc. When addressing their female doms, subs are likely to use titles like mistress, madam, queen, or whatever title the dom prefers.
You can read our recent article on Dom Names – What’s a Good Alternative to Daddy?
Since subs are so respectful when addressing their doms, how should the latter address them? And since there are so many subnames, what name should your cathedral partner use when speaking to you? Are there any rules that guide doms when choosing names for their subs?
Some doms choose reciprocity
A sub might use titles like Master, King, Mistress, or Daddy to show submission and a desire to feel protected by the Dom. Such exalted titles also show the submissive person’s deep respect for the cathedral.
Some doms also use endearing titles when addressing their subs to retaliate. Therefore, to make you feel protected, your Dom could call you.
my little
Dad’s special
mine
My property
My property
Precious
Dom might use different names for different scenarios
In many sub/dom relationships, the names partners use to address one another vary by space. As you might expect, the names used in a bedroom scene are very different from the names used in a formal setting. When naming your dom master or mistress in the bedroom, you can expect names like pet, baby, baby, darling, my kitty, and other names we usually associate with lovers. If you’re attending a company dinner, expect equally affectionate but less intimate names like Darling and Sweetheart.
The Dom could also vary the names used if it addresses you a little further. For example, some doms regularly change the names they use for their subs, so you don’t know what to expect. While this is unusual in a new relationship, people who have been together for a long time know what their partners expect from them and can afford to experiment.
If your partner is playful, there’s no harm in trying a playful pet name for a sub, such as B. Honey bee, little bird and rabbit. Used tactfully, switching pet names frequently can add excitement to a relationship.
Dom could use your real name
Names aren’t the only tools dominance and subs use to show dominance and submission. Knowing their different roles in the relationship, partners may choose to forgo unique titles and address each other by their real names.
Some affiliates have a problem committing to a specific name, and others don’t mind subnames. The tone of voice you use when addressing your partner is enough to tell them that you know your place in the relationship, and rather than risk a pet name that could backfire, it’s best to use your sub’s real name.
Your Dom should call you by a name you love
Submitting in a relationship doesn’t mean subjecting yourself to verbal abuse, and your Dom should know titles that are beyond all bounds. If a name doesn’t make you feel loved or appreciated, then you have no reason to tolerate it as it will ultimately loosen the ties that hold you together.
If you have a partner who can’t resist the demeaning name, or one who is never happy unless every pet name is included in a “dirty” word, you should discuss the matter with them if you’re not comfortable.
On the contrary, if you’re happy to be addressed by names that some people might find unacceptable, go ahead and enjoy your relationship.
Common submissive names
While it’s a great idea to come up with a unique name, it doesn’t hurt to choose from a few common ones.
For a female sub, you can go with;
girl
fail
maid
pearl
Kajiri
Small
good girl
young lady
Little girl
princess

For a male sub, here are some great options;
boi

Cupcake
Puppet

Conclusion
The name your dom gives you is a matter of mutual agreement. The name that makes you happy and comfortable might be anathema to other people. While it’s an excellent idea to have your Dom choose a name for you, you should consider suggesting some submissive names if you’re uncomfortable with the names your partner is currently using.
Tips to pick a submissive name for your pet slave
It’s quite difficult for new characters to the BDSM world to go from vanilla one moment and be D/S in the next.
Each has their own techniques – and one way is to use a subtle signal by calling the sub by its assigned pet name. Using male submissive names is a signal to let your partner know that you are ready to fulfill your D/s role. This mechanism will be a psychological stimulus to prepare your mind for the transition and make your knee weak!
Male subnames used in a specific context allow the subordinate to know what is expected of them at any given time. Once addressed by his real name, the husband knows this is a partner/husband context, once addressed by his pet name, he knows his goddess is speaking to him.
Tips: In the list of submissive names for men, choose a soft name for this purpose – this way you can switch back and forth in front of everyone without anyone noticing.
Example:
“Patrick, give me the salt” – woman speaks
“Prince, give me the salt” – Dom speaks
Finding names to call a sub is a distinctive way for you to define when you’re in a role.

I love this… but what about classic Italian? Dito. I’m also having a hard time with the whole caps and slash thing. I edit while reading (pretty tiresome) and so it’s actually difficult to read some pretty intelligent comments when incorrect capitalization has been used. Now, mind you, I’ve had occasion to use a capitalization or two inappropriately to make arguments, but the consistent capitalization of “he” or “she” and the small “i” is just hard to read. I also worry about the state of mind of the people who have to follow the convention. Should you not feel confident enough in your role and personality to follow normal grammar and punctuation so that your words are better understood? Shouldn’t you feel confident enough that you don’t have to force an excuse? Shouldn’t you feel that you are equal, that “I” can be used when appropriate? Shouldn’t one get off a high horse and use “him” when appropriate (and yes, I chuckle at the phrasing of that last question)? . Of course, as always, I’d appreciate someone explaining why “I” and “er” should be used (or substitute other appropriate pronouns).
