Fictional Character

Luigi (Japanese: ルイージ, Hepburn: Ruīji, pronounced [ɾɯ.iːʑi]; loo-EE-jee, Italian: [luˈiːdʒi]) is a fictional character appearing in video games and similar media published by Nintendo. Developed by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Luigi is portrayed as the younger twin brother and sidekick of Nintendo’s mascot, Mario. Luigi appears in many games in the Mario series and often accompanies his brother.

Luigi first appeared in the 1983 Game & Watch game Mario Bros. where he is the character controlled by the second player. He would retain this role in many future games including Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and other titles. He was first available as a main character in Super Mario Bros. 2. In more recent appearances, Luigi’s role has been increasingly limited to spinoffs such as the Mario Party and Mario Kart series. However, he was in a starring role in Luigi’s Hammer Toss, Mario is Missing, Luigi’s Mansion, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Dr. Luigi, New Super Luigi U, Luigi’s Mansion Arcade and Luigi’s Mansion 3 games, he is called to the hero because Mario needs to be rescued. Luigi has also appeared in every episode of the three DiC-TV series based on the NES and Super NES games.

Originally created as a palette swap by Mario with a green color scheme instead of red, Luigi has since developed his own personality and style. Over the course of his role in the Mario series, Luigi developed into a physically distinct character, becoming taller and thinner than his brother. Nintendo named the period from March 2013 to March 2014 the Year of Luigi to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the character’s existence. Accordingly, games released in 2013 emphasized Luigi. An unlockable Luigi version of Mario Bros. titled Luigi Bros. was also included in Super Mario 3D World.

concept and creation

This emblem appears on Luigi’s hat and as a symbol for him in many game interfaces.

The events leading up to Luigi’s creation began in 1982 during development of Donkey Kong, where Shigeru Miyamoto had created Mario (then known as “Jumpman”) in hopes that he would be able to use the character in future games to be recast in a variety of roles.[5] Miyamoto was inspired by Joust to create a game with a simultaneous two-player mode, which led to his development of the Mario Bros. game in 1983. In this game, Luigi was given the role of Mario’s brother as the second playable character. Miyamoto noted that the Japanese word ruiji means “similar,” which explains the similarities in size, shape, and gameplay between Luigi and Mario.

While Miyamoto originally portrayed Mario as a carpenter in Donkey Kong, in Mario Bros. both Mario and Luigi were styled as Italian plumbers at the suggestion of a colleague. Software limitations at the time of each game’s creation meant that Luigi’s first appearance was limited to a simple palette swap. In terms of graphics and gameplay, the characters were completely identical; [8] the green color scheme adopted for Luigi remained one of his defining physical traits in later releases.

Following the success of Mario Bros., Luigi was introduced to a wider audience in 1985 with the release of the Super Mario Bros. console game. Once again, his role was limited to a palette swap and could only be used by the second player. The Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 in 1986, later released in the West as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, marked the beginning of Luigi’s development into a more prominent character. Luigi’s movement was no longer identical; he could now jump higher and farther than his brother, at the expense of movement response and accuracy.[9]

While this version of Super Mario Bros. 2 was released in Japan, it was considered too difficult for American audiences at the time.[7] Consequently, an alternative release was developed in 1988, which served as Super Mario Bros. 2 for western players (and was later released in Japan as Super Mario USA); This version played a key role in shaping Luigi’s current appearance. The game was a conversion of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, with graphics altered to represent characters and scenes from the Mario franchise. In this release, the character from “Mama”, who had the highest jump among the original cast, served as a template for Luigi, resulting in his taller, thinner appearance combined with his Mario-esque outfit and green color scheme. There have been previous appearances of Luigi being taller than Mario: in Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally and in Super Mario Bros.: Peach-Hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!; In the aforementioned anime, he wore a yellow shirt, blue hat, and blue jumpsuit. Promotional graphics for Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World feature Luigi in this new look, but the actual games didn’t adopt this different character design until the 1992 game Super Mario Kart. Luigi’s distinctive appearance from Super Mario USA has since been used for remakes of older games as well.

portrayal of the actor

Much like his looks, Luigi’s vocal performance has varied over the years. In Mario Kart 64, in which many characters were voiced for the first time, some characters, including Luigi, had two different voices; The North American and European versions of the game feature a deep voice for Luigi provided by Charles Martinet, who also voices Mario, Wario, Waluigi, and Toadsworth. The Japanese version uses a high-pitched falsetto voice provided by then-Nintendo French translator Julien Bardakoff. Inconsistent voice acting continued across many Nintendo 64 games. All versions of Mario Party include Bardakoff’s high-pitched clips from Mario Kart 64. Luigi retained that higher-pitched voice in Mario Party 2. In Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and Mario Party 3, his voice reverted to a lower state. Since then, with the exception of Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi has consistently had a medium-high voice performed by Martinet. In Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Luigi’s voice was the same high-pitched voice as in the Japanese version of Mario Kart 64. In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi’s voice is made up of clips of Mario’s voice from Super Mario 64, with pitched pitches. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he has his own (mid-pitched) voice instead of a superscript version of Mario’s. Luigi will be voiced by Charlie Day in the upcoming 2023 film adaptation.[4]

Portrayed as Mario’s older, younger brother, Luigi typically wears a green shirt, dark blue jumpsuit, and green hat with a green “L” badge. Although Luigi is a plumber like Mario,[10] other facets of his personality vary from game to game; Luigi always seems nervous and shy, but is good-natured and can keep his composure better than his brother. A baby version of the character named Baby Luigi debuted in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island who is being held captive by Kamek. He also appeared in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time as a playable character alongside Baby Mario. He is voiced by Charles Martinet, just like his adult self. As Mario’s younger twin, Luigi is also said to be 24 years old.[11]

Although it hasn’t been made official, Daisy could be Luigi’s romantic interest. They were a romantic couple in the Super Mario Bros. movie [citation needed] and in Mario Kart Wii they are seen statue dancing together. She was his caddie at the NES Open Tournament Golf[12] like Peach was for Mario. Also, Daisy’s trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee states that she may be Luigi’s answer to Mario’s Peach.[13]

surname

Nintendo didn’t initially give Luigi a last name. The first notable use of “Luigi Mario” was in the 1993 live-action film adaptation. In September 2015, at the Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary Festival, Miyamoto stated that Mario’s full name was Mario Mario. As a result, this indirectly confirms Luigi’s full name as Luigi Mario.[14][15]

Luigi’s first appearance was in the 1983 arcade game Mario Bros.[10] as the character controlled by the second player. He retained that role in Wrecking Crew. He later appeared in Super Mario Bros.[10] for the NES and again in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World. Super Mario Bros. 2 introduced Luigi as the taller of the two brothers as well as the better knight. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World returned to feature Luigi as a reimagined Mario. He made a small appearance in his baby form in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Luigi was conspicuously absent from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. However, the Nintendo DS remake of Super Mario 64 features him as a playable character alongside Mario, Yoshi, and Wario. He got his own starring role in the GameCube game Luigi’s Mansion, where he wins a mansion from a competition he never entered and saves Mario from King Boo. Luigi’s Mansion has developed such a cult following that Nintendo released a sequel to the game nearly a decade after the original game’s release date. The sequel is called Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and is playable on the Nintendo 3DS.[16] He reprized his role in the third game, Luigi’s Mansion 3, on Nintendo Switch.

Luigi has been associated with the more difficult second acts of several Super Mario games.[17] These include The Lost Levels, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Luigi U and the new game Plus in Super Mario 3D Land, which offer more challenging elaborations on their respective predecessors and allow the player to use Luigi as the main character with which he is reduced Friction and higher jumping are consistent across all of these games. Luigi became playable as a hidden character in the Nintendo DS game New Super Mario Bros. and as a hidden character in the Wii game Super Mario Galaxy. In the sequel Super Mario Galaxy 2, the player can switch to Luigi throughout the game.[18] He also appears as a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where four players can play cooperatively as Mario, Luigi, and two Toads at the same time. He also appears in Super Mario 3D Land as a playable character, as well as in New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U, the latter having a DLC mode where he is the main character called New Super Luigi U. It has levels , customized to his specific gameplay abilities, including jumping higher. The DLC is also available as a standalone retail version. Luigi also appeared in Super Mario 3D World along with his brother Peach, Rosalina, and Toad.

Luigi appears in many Mario spin-offs, including Mario Kart, Mario Party, and all Mario sports titles. He also appears in all five episodes of the Super Smash Bros. series; He is an unlockable character in the first three installments and Ultimate.

Luigi has appeared in every Mario RPG. While he originally made a cameo appearance in the credits of Super Mario RPG, he appears more prominently in the Paper Mario series. He is a non-playable character in the original Paper Mario. In the sequel Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, he reappears as a non-player character and embarks on a different adventure than Mario. Super Paper Mario features him as a playable character, having initially been brainwashed to go by the name “Mr. L.” to work for the antagonist. In Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash, Luigi plays a minor role and can be found in the background of certain levels for a coin reward. In Color Splash, Luigi appears at the end of the game driving a kart and helping Mario reach Bowser’s Castle. In Paper Mario: The Origami King, he helps Mario again by retrieving the keys of Peach’s Castle himself. The Mario & Luigi series features Luigi as the main protagonist; The events of the games focus on him and his brother Mario. He has appeared in all seven Mario & Luigi games.

Other media

Luigi made his animated debut in the 1986 film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Save Princess Peach!. In the film where he was voiced by Yū Mizushima, he was not yet given a consistent color scheme as he wore a yellow shirt and blue hat and jumpsuit. In the film, Luigi was a greedy character and once even left Mario to look for coins. He was also a bit more serious but less brave than his brother Mario, who constantly dreamed of Princess Peach.

Luigi later appeared in the third trilogy of OVAs titled Amada Anime Series: Super Mario Bros., released in 1989, in which the Mario characters played the story of Snow White. He appears at the end of the video to save Mario and Peach from the Evil Queen, portrayed by Koopa.

Luigi appeared regularly on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! on, which aired from 1989 to 1990 and cast Danny Wells as both its live-action portrayal and voice. Like his brother, Luigi’s voice actor switched in later cartoons, in his case to Tony Rosato. Although he did not star in the series, Luigi appeared in all 91 episodes of the three DiC Mario cartoons in which his brother himself did not appear (“Life’s Ruff” from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3). .

Luigi played another role in the movie Super Mario Bros., where he was portrayed by John Leguizamo.[20] He is portrayed as an easy-going character in contrast to the cynical Mario portrayed by Bob Hoskins. In the film, Luigi is not Mario’s twin, but is much younger, so Mario is said to have been like a surrogate father to him since the death of their parents, and his romantic relationship with Daisy is one of the film’s main plot elements.

Luigi has also appeared in several Robot Chicken sketches, always alongside Mario. In one sketch, he and Mario accidentally appear in Vice City from the Grand Theft Auto series, while in another they compete in a Cannonball Run-style car race. [citation required]

In 2015, game designer Josh Millard released Ennuigi, which tells the story of Luigi’s inability to come to terms with the lack of narrative in the original Super Mario Bros.[21][22][23] Reactions to Luigi’s character in Ennuigi have ranged from “depressed”,[24] “laconic”,[25] “always unhappy”[26] to “an anxious teenager who has just finished writing a book review of Albert Camus’ The Stranger” . [22] In a Reddit thread, Millard commented, “I […] think there’s a pretty weird implicit narrative when you step back and look at it, and he enjoyed sharing some thoughts on all of this.” into a recharacterization of Luigi as a guy who is as justifiably confused and distressed by his strange life as one would expect a person to be once removed from the bubble of the franchise’s comic book context.”[27]

Luigi year

On March 19, 2013, the “Year of Luigi” began for Nintendo. This included a year of Luigi games like Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Dr. Luigi, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and New Super Luigi U. A Luigi’s Mansion Statue was released on Club Nintendo. The Luigi year ended on March 19, 2014.[28]

Month Luigi

On October 4, 2019, Nintendo declared that the entire month of October would be Luigi’s month. This was done to celebrate Luigi’s Mansion 3 which was released on October 31st, 2019. The month of Luigi ended on November 1, 2019.[29]

reception

Since his appearance in Super Mario Bros., Luigi has received very positive reactions. Nintendo Power listed Luigi as their fifth favorite hero, citing his reliability while calling him an outsider. They also listed him as one of the best mustaches.[30] GameDaily listed the “neglected guy” as one of their top 25 video game archetypes, citing Luigi as an example and stating that he lacks his older brother Mario’s charisma and that he should get another starring role. They also listed Luigi’s Poltergust 3000 from Luigi’s Mansion as one of the top 25 Nintendo gimmicks.[32] UGO Networks ranked Luigi #16 on their “25 Most Memorable Italians in Video Games” list, ranking him above Mario himself. [33]

Luigi has been featured in many “Top Sidekicks” lists. Machinima included Luigi in the list of “Top 10 Sidekicks in Gaming”.[34] He was also listed as Best Buddy in Video Games by Maximum PC.[35] IGN ranked him second on the Top 10 list, commenting, “No couple exemplifies brotherly love like Mario and Luigi”. Maxim listed Luigi as the second most underrated sidekick behind Waylon Smithers from The Simpsons.[37]

Who is Bowser’s wife?

Doogy65 states, “The ‘Baby Peach’ in these games is in fact the original Peach, the one who grows up to be Bowser’s wife and Queen of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the mother of Princess Peach.” Bowser Jr.

Play Bowser Mario World Game Online

30 years ago, Nintendo first introduced the world to Mario’s mission to rescue his one true love, Princess Peach. He had to dodge all sorts of obstacles thrown at him by the evil Bowser, but Mario always ended up saving the princess – if the video game player actually mastered the game.

But no one ever really questioned Bowser’s motives for kidnapping and imprisoning Peach. He liked the princess and wanted her all to himself, but this pesky plumber just wouldn’t give up. Basically, it was just a classic obsessive love story on Bowser’s part. Right? NOT CORRECT.

Reddit user Doogy65 dropped a big bombshell on everyone’s childhood by claiming, “Bowser is actually Peach’s father and wants to have an incestuous marriage with her.”

This is us right now:

Before you start lighting pitchforks and ripping down Doogy65’s door in retaliation for destroying your innocence, there seems to be some truth to this theory. Doogy65 provides solid evidence, so let’s take a look. Here gooooooo!

Peach’s mother is the cause of everything.

According to Doogy65, “Peach is the spitting image of her late mother, whose death drove Bowser insane, and when he saw that his daughter had become so much like his wife, he decided to marry her.” that I have ever read. I know Bowser has problems – murder, attempted murder and kidnapping – but this?! Wow.

And Peach’s royal title is a big part of the problem.

“Peach, who only holds the title ‘Princess’, cannot be the reigning sovereign of the Mushroom Kingdom under the rules of a monarchy. If she were, her title would be ‘Queen Peach’. If so, then who is the true ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom? Is there anyone else in the kingdom who holds a royal title?”

Doogy65 further claims that it is clearly King Koopa Bowser. (And even if Bowser hadn’t been a king, he would still have ruled the peons with an iron fist and advertised his presence wherever he went, usually with that annoying, evil laugh.)

Of course, one commenter pointed out, “‘Bowser’ is the name of Daisy’s father in the film. Yes, Bowser and King Koopa are [two] separate characters in this movie.” But, you know, details, details.

The other rulers in the “Mario” world are simply minor kings.

Doogy65 notes King Bob-Omb (pictured above) and King Boo, but points out that Bowser is essentially the Nintendo “American Horror Story” version of the Supreme. (Actually, I made that particular comparison, but Doogy65’s observation rings true as well.) He or she notes, “Bowser is the only one with his… own castles and controls several other minions in addition to his own race of Koopas, of which Bowser seems to be submissive .”

Peach’s castle in Super Mario 64 is actually Bowser’s castle.

Before the release of Super Mario 64 in 1996, Bowser’s Castle was the only castle we’ve ever had access to. “It seems that whenever Mario shows up and accepts Peach’s invitation for tea or cake or whatever, Bowser preempts him and is already there by the time Mario shows up. How can Bowser always know when Mario is coming and beat him to Peach’s castle? Unless, of course, it’s his castle too. It’s already there in Super Mario 64 because it’s always there… The place we’ve come to know as Bowser’s Castle is simply another fortress that Bowser uses to keep Peach away from Mario whenever he’s after her searches,” argued Doogy65.

Oh, and the mural from Peach? Yeah, it’s not really Peach.

“The large mural of Peach in the castle does not depict Peach but the late mother, which Bowser commissioned to commemorate her.” If that part of Doogy65’s theory is true, then this is the scariest backstory ever. I mean, it’s cute that he thought of his late wife, but then he ruined it by trying to have sex with their kid.

And Baby Peach isn’t really Baby Peach.

If you’re thinking, “Hey! What if Bowser and Peach are both babies? Explain THAT, Doogy65!” Well, he or she does. Doogy65 explains, “The ‘Baby Peach’ in these games is actually the original Peach, the one who grows up to be Bowser’s wife and Queen of the Mushroom Kingdom and the mother of Princess Peach.”

Bowser Jr. contributes to this theory.

According to Doogy65, “The final piece of evidence is Bowser Junior believing Peach to be his mother. Why does he think that? The obvious answer is that Bowser told him, but why would he tell him that? Wouldn’t it be very clear to the younger Bowser very early on that this wasn’t the case? Unless Bowser has some very solid evidence to support that claim, such as the fact that Bowser Jr.’s real mother was exactly like Peach Looks Convince Bowser Jr. that Peach is his mother and not his sister, her true relationship to him.

Who is Bowser’s mother?

Mario operate on him (he would not) and even divulges that Mario is named after Mario Segale, former landlord of the Nintendo of America Warehouse. Most curious of all answers, though, is when Miyamoto (a male) admits to being the mother of Bowser Jr. Check out the bizarre video above.

Will Mario and Peach get married?

Side-Story’ was released in 1986 and tells the tale of Mario going to Peach’s wedding, which isn’t to him, but the prince of the Potato Kingdom, Prince Andre.

Play Bowser Mario World Game Online

Just when you thought Mario Lore couldn’t get any more twisted — if the video game series even had lore! – an excavated Japanese game book for children, licensed by Nintendo, throws a wrench into one of history’s most famous fictional couples!

It has long been known that Princess Peach and Mario have a “will they or won’t they?” It continues with the final appearance in Super Mario Odyssey where Peach makes the plumber’s suggestion after defeating Bowser for the umpteenth time. At the time gamers were, it was because Peach was frustrated with the games they were playing. But what if the reason she’s turned down Mario’s advances all along is because she’s already married?

Sensational Japanese website Buzz Plus News, which was then independently verified, discovered a 34-year-old playbook only published in Japan. The book “Super Mario Bros. Side-Story” was published in 1986 and tells the story of Mario going to Peach’s wedding, which is not his but the prince of the Potato Kingdom, Prince Andre. As usual, Peach is kidnapped and Mario and Andre join forces to rescue her. They save her by having the prince kiss Peach to wake her up. In the second book of the Super Mario Bros. Side-Story 2 series, the prince and princess get married.

While Mario Canon is dubious at best, these books were officially licensed by Nintendo and appeared alongside other books in the Adventure Hero Books series of gamebooks from famous franchises like The Legend of Zelda, Gundam, Kinght Rider, and Kamen Rider – all of them officially licensed. Game books are broadly similar to pick-your-own adventure books, but use game systems to guide the player.

Mario in the game book

Andre in playbook (page 76)

It could be that Peach has since divorced Andre in the “canon” Mario timeline, or that Peach only married the prince to further the Mushroom Kingdom’s goals, much like Bowser is constantly trying to do for his Koopa Kingdom. Or maybe Peach once loved Andre but is cheating on him with Mario, her childhood friend? Maybe it’s the other way around and Mario loves Peach, his childhood friend, but she doesn’t love him back.

Dark Bowser is the form the Dark Star takes after absorbing enough of Bowser’s DNA, appearing as Bowser’s final boss in Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and its Nintendo 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey, acts . His voice is a slowed down version of Bowser’s, and he has all of the powers that the original has, along with lots of dark variations. He is fought alongside Mario and Luigi’s final boss, the Dark Star Core.

history [edit]

The plays of Dark Bowser

While the Dark Star was collecting DNA from the airways in Bowser’s body, Mario and Luigi pursued him to try and stop him before he could complete a profile of Bowser’s body. It managed to get its punch, fire breath, body slam, and probably more moves before Mario and Luigi could fight it.

The brothers fought hard to defeat it, and they did, but the Dark Star had apparently absorbed every bit of DNA it needed and it left Bowser’s body and transformed into Dark Bowser, albeit in a ghostly state because the Dark Star was missing DNA from Bowser’s legs. After attempting to absorb dark power by breathing in an unconscious Princess Peach, which had no effect, he began searching her castle for dark power to complete the missing information. Eventually, Dark Fawful found it searching for half of the Dark Star’s power that it had not absorbed. After Bowser defeated Fawful and transformed him into a beetle-like form, Dark Bowser inhaled him, thus completing himself and solidifying in the process.

The newly completed Dark Bowser exits the room, opening the way to the secret tower of Peach’s Castle. Bowser pursues him, and as he faces his dark form, the two Bowsers both perform flame breath attacks, which collide and initiate the prologue to the final battle. Bowser eventually overpowers Dark Bowser, who retreats higher into the tower in his ignited Spike Ball, forcing Bowser into the same position in the process. Bowser is able to defeat his dark form in a grenade collision fight with the help of Mario and Luigi in the Chest Station, but the dark being manages to retreat again.

Directly above the arena is the roof of the tower. Bowser, follow a path to an arena where Dark Bowser is waiting with a still unconscious Peach (who is now inexplicably outside of Dark Bowser). Commenting on the dark force that must be freed, Dark Bowser unleashes a dark hurricane upon the Mushroom Kingdom. In the original version, Broque Monsieur, the Koopa Paratroopa Trio and several bubble-trapped toads and goombas circle the arena. Starlow tries to encourage Bowser and reveal Mario and Luigi and their true identities, but the storm is too loud for him to hear. Dark Bowser and Bowser then fire their flame breath at each other, beginning the final fight.

Once Mario and Luigi defeat the Dark Star Core in Bowser, Dark Bowser becomes unstable. This allows Bowser to take him out with a “KO punch”. After saying his last words to Bowser, Dark Bowser explodes, releasing the dying Dark Star, which flies over Peach’s Castle and explodes, restoring the kingdom to normal.

General information[edit]

Physical Description [ edit ]

Dark Bowser has the overall physique and build of the original Bowser, but is very differently detailed. All of its scales and carapace are colored dark blue, and its snout, plastron/underbelly, horns, and spines are noticeably paler than Bowser’s. His eyes are identical to the Dark Star’s, but he appears to be completely lacking in Bowser’s eyebrows. The rings around his spikes and horns are dyed black, and the most notable difference between Bowser and Dark Bowser is that Dark Bowser has a black mohican instead of Bowser’s hair. His sprites also have dark orbs floating over his body.

In his incomplete state, he retains his details but appears as a ghostly figure with a purple hue (minus his eyes) while pulsing a lighter purple. Its animations are also notable in that its idle sprite has misplaced pixels for an effect reminiscent of video noise, and its talking animations have noticeable jitter. He’s also completely missing legs and a tail until he’s complete.

speech [edit]

While Dark Bowser is incomplete, his speech is paused and can only speak one sentence at a time. However, once completed, he begins to speak fully and does not use contractions.

In the Japanese version, his speech is interrupted and written entirely in katakana while it is incomplete. When Dark Bowser inhales Dark Fawful and is done, he begins speaking in more natural Japanese, using kanji and without pauses.

Aside from the text dialogue, Dark Bowser’s roars and grunts are provided by Kenny James, who also voices the original Bowser.

Powers & Abilities[edit]

Dark Bowser breathes fire at Bowser.

Although incomplete, the only powers Dark Bowser possesses are levitation, punching, and inhaling. Once he inhales Dark Fawful after being reduced to a beetle-like form and becoming complete, Dark Bowser exhibits even more powers similar to the original Bowser. Exhaling/shooting fire from his mouth, curling up into a ball of spikes, etc. Dark Bowser also has the ability to spread darkness over large expanses of land, which is seen before the final boss fight with him, which also traps all of the denizens in dark bubbles.

During the final fight, Dark Bowser has the ability to create boulders, cages, and energy balls to attack Bowser. With the help of Dark Fawful inside him, once Bowser reduces his HP to zero, Dark Bowser can restore all damage done to him, and even grow bigger (with his belly being his only weak point, making him cough up Dark Fawful and bring it back to normal size). Also, Dark Bowser uses dark variations of Bowser’s own minions and sends them after Bowser when he becomes a giant.

However, if the Dark Star Core takes too much damage, Dark Bowser will become weakened and unstable, ultimately allowing Bowser to finish him off during their fight.

fight [edit]

One of Dark Bowser’s attacks involves throwing a boulder in the air and blasting it apart with fire, causing boulders to fall from the sky. Bowser has to duck with his tank to avoid damage. However, he must also smack one of the rocks in front of Dark Bowser, who is charging a massive shot of dark fire. When the stone lands in his mouth, the energy of the attack rebounds and he damages himself from within. However, if Bowser fails to do so, he will take damage from the explosion.

In another attack, he hits Bowser repeatedly. Bowser must counter with his own punch, slamming their fists together, negating any intended damage. After that, Dark Bowser jumps up in the air as a spiked ball and tries to land on Bowser. Bowser has to duck into his armor to protect himself. He can then counter by quickly punching Dark Bowser after Bowser ducks.

Another attack traps Bowser in a cage and lifts him into the sky. Dark Bowser then charges up a ball of energy to shoot at Bowser. Bowser must try to break the cage’s lock by repeatedly hitting it before he gets hit by the energy ball (he should have just enough time to do it). He can also swing the cage off its hinges by crouching in his shell to damage Dark Bowser, but this method takes longer and requires precise swing timing. In the remake, the cage swings automatically instead of Bowser having to duck into his shell, and by continuously hitting as soon as the attack begins, timing is usually right to land on Dark Bowser when he breaks the cage.

The “Dark Minions” seen in the Dark Bowser fight between versions.

After taking enough damage, Dark Bowser will fall to the ground; He is then fully healed by the ingested Dark Fawful and grows larger. He will always follow up (assuming Bowser hasn’t counterattacked Dark Bowser’s HP to 0) by throwing a mixed ball of Dark versions of Bowser’s minions (Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Thwomps, Bob-ombs, and Bullet Bills). with him. The ball pushes Bowser back several yards, after which he must backtrack through the minions while dodging or countering their attacks (who hit Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Bob-ombs, and Bullet Bills at low altitude, and duck under the Bullet at high altitude Bills and Thwomps). Near the battlefield, Dark Bowser again curls up into a ball of spikes and tries to hit him from above. Bowser must defend himself with his tank and then do it again while Dark Bowser prepares the next spike ball slam. Bowser can avoid the second attack by simply walking. However, this is changed in the remake; The player must also duck for the second attack.

When his turn comes, Bowser must attack his stomach to make him spit out the Dark Star Core and shrink Dark Bowser back to normal size. Bowser then has to inhale Dark Fawful, which Dark Bowser attempts to counter with his own inhalation technique. If you fail this part, Bowser will have to do it all over again. Successfully inhaling Dark Fawful draws him into Bowser’s abdomen, where the Mario Brothers must fight Dark Fawful. If Mario and Luigi fail to defeat Dark Fawful and Dark Star Core within multiple rounds, he escapes and returns to Dark Bowser’s body, forcing the process to be repeated. Only after Dark Fawful’s defeat is Bowser able to deliver the final blows to his shadowy doppelganger. Once defeated, Dark Bowser dissipates, leaving only the Dark Star, which rises into the air and explodes, returning the Mushroom Kingdom to normal.
