Nissan Qashqai DPF Design Issues
The Nissan Qashqai is a great looking car with a very powerful engine. We have noticed that the 2.0DCi model is currently being produced with the DPF (diesel particulate filter) and our main concern is the size of this filter. The filter is installed in the center box of the exhaust and that in itself is a problem because the further down the exhaust the lower the temperature of the exhaust gases before they reach the DPF for regeneration.
We believe the filter would have been more appropriate if mounted directly on the downpipe, but we can see that space was an obvious concern in the design of this vehicle – but then how did other hatchbacks achieve this…?

Common symptoms of a failed DPF
Loss of power / no throttle response

Once the DPF has failed to regenerate and becomes stuck on the Nissan Qashqai the light will not go out without being reset and Nissan currently charges £250 + VAT for this service whilst they carry out a forced regeneration but after that it will Highly recommended that you do an oil and filter change as this will allow fuel to enter the oil to raise the temperature which then leads to starved lubrication and can also cause over pressure if you are not careful.
Why not regenerate my clogged DPF in Nissan Qashqai?
Regenerating the DPF when it’s clogged isn’t such a bad thing when you’re having problems for the first time, but if it’s already been regenerated once and the light is back on then your only options are a new filter or DPF removal , as regenerating again may just reduce the life of your injectors and at the same time damage the elements of the filter that is already clogged, making it clog much faster next time.

What is a CUSTOM DPF REMOVAL session?
By custom we mean after we have downloaded the map files and decrypted them from the engine ECU, we manually scan the thousands of data strings to locate and delete all the locations of the DPF map files, however some data strings for the DPF are linked to others Sensors in the exhaust gas circuit such as lambda probe, temperature sensor, air mass sensor and exhaust gas pressure sensor. Clearing these data strings will disrupt the sensors and potentially stop their work, which could also eject the vehicle’s emissions and potentially cause many problems, if not immediately then over time.
We are changing all of the linked data strings to ensure that the DPF map settings are completely removed and the sensor map files are recalibrated to work optimally even without a DPF installed in the vehicle, so the vehicle will continue to pass its MOT.
How is this method different from other companies?
It turns out that many companies and cellular tuners use “automated software” and do not manually delete and change data strings – instead they download the map files and run them through software that attempts to automatically locate and delete the DPF data strings them, but in doing so they either intentionally skip the linked data strings so as not to cause immediate errors (this means the vehicle will continue to regenerate and cause damage to injectors and bore washer pistons over time) or the software accidentally deletes the linked data strings and corrupts the map files for the emissions related sensors, causing many problems.

My wife’s J10b was diagnosed by a garage as needing a new PDF. The soot level is very high and regeneration will not eliminate it.
The new DPF offer is over £500
Is it an easy do-it-yourself job?
I’m pretty skilled at removing/installing parts so I might give it a try.
