Fuchsia City and the Koga Gym battle (plus finding the Warden’s Teeth) are your next big goals in your quest through Pokémon Let’s Go’s main story, after defeating Giovanni at Silph Co. and via either Route 18 or Route 15 drove south.

Pokémon Let’s Go: Fuchsia City and the Guardian’s Teeth

Finally a big city again! If you’ve worked your way through both the eastern route of Route 12, Route 13, Route 14, and Route 15, and the western route here via Route 16, Route 17, and Route 18, you’ll probably be screaming for something of civilization – us are, even if we only listed all these routes!

Interestingly, you can actually do pretty much anything here in town, including challenging Koga at the Fuchsia City Gym once you get the Poké Flute to wake up the Snorlax, which blocks two routes south leading you here. If you haven’t already, we recommend taking on Team Rocket at Silph Co. first. After that, you have a choice of what to compete in at the Fuchsia City and Saffron City Gyms first. Personally, we attacked Silph Co., then leveled up a bit on the tracks towards Fuchsia City, then faced off against Sabrina at Saffron City Gym, and then attacked Koga here – but it’s up to you!

There is plenty to do here in Fuchsia City itself. As you’d expect, there’s a vendor at the Pokémon Center, this time a gentleman, who’ll trade you an Alolan Marowak for your regular one. He’s also joined by another move tutor who will now teach your partner Pokémon even more moves (Sappy Seed, Freezy Frost, and Sparkly Swirl, Grass, Ice, and Fairy-type moves, in our case for Eevee).

Otherwise, here’s something very important to do: Learn not one, but two Secret Techniques, Sea Skim and Strong Push, the Let’s Go equivalent of Suft and Strength, respectively.

Getting Sea Skim is easy as pie – just talk to the man next to the Lapras in the pool in Fuchsia City and listen to his story to teach Sea Skim – you can use it to surf the water and open up whole new parts of the world!

Strong Push is a bit more complex. You need to talk to the Safari Zone Warden at his house in the bottom right of town. He’s saying something that’s pretty hard to understand because he lost his teeth! He lost her somewhere on Route 19, which is just south of town.

Go there and you’ll find that Team Rocket’s Jessie and James are up to no good once again. Unlucky as they are, they’ll dig up the gold teeth thinking they’re something valuable, only to realize how disgusting they are and give them to you instead! That was easy then, just bring them back to the Warden at his house and he will reward you with the Safari outfit and the Powerful Strike ability.

Once there, push the boulder aside in his house to find a small Diglett, which will give you a nugget. How nice!

The last thing you need to know about Fuchsia City – aside from how to beat your gym, which we explain below – is that there is no longer a real safari zone here. Instead, there’s the small area where Pokemon (that you can’t catch) roam near the top of town, and the Go Park, where you transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Go. What is Pokémon Z and why wasn’t it released?

Typically, the Pokémon Company releases three games with each generation, with the third improving and adding new features to the previous two games. Instead, the franchise skipped the third game to begin development on Sun and Moon (Generation 7). The game would have improved significantly over X and Y, successfully bringing the franchise into 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. Z was probably never released due to lack of resources and especially time.

In 2013, Pokémon X and Y were released for the Nintendo 3DS. The titles were the sixth generation of games in the franchise and were well received by fans, selling over 16 million copies worldwide.

Typically, the Pokémon Company releases three games with each generation, with the third game improving on the previous two games and adding new features. For example, Platinum was released in 2008 after the release of Diamond and Pearl, and Pokémon Crystal followed Gold and Silver.

However, X and Y never got the third game. The supposed Pokémon Z was never released. Instead, the franchise skipped the third installment to begin development on Sun and Moon (Generation 7).

What is Pokemon Z?

Z would have been the third installment in Generation 6 of the main game series.

The game would have been a vast improvement over X and Y, who successfully converted the franchise to 3D on the Nintendo 3DS.

It’s likely that the game with Pokémon Z would have further integrated the franchise into 3D space with a completely redesigned 3D world, similar to Sun and Moon.

Looking at the franchise’s release schedule, Z would have been released around 2015, two years before Sun and Moon.

Evidence for a third installment

A third part of the franchise would have tied up many loose ends in the sixth generation. For example, your loss to evil Team Flare and team boss Lysandre was rather disappointing, with far greater room for additional storytelling in Z.

A third title could also have explored the mysterious AZ, the ultimate weapon, and the alleged Pokémon war in the region. There was a lot of room for storytelling, and that probably would have been present in Pokémon Z.

In addition, the legendary creature Zygarde also hints at a possible third game involving the pocket monster, which is criminally underused in X and Y. Instead, the monster in Sun and Moon, with different shapes, had a greater meaning. Traditionally, with three games in each generation, there are three legends in the spotlight. Zygarde was supposed to be the third in Generation 6.

Zygarde’s presence in Sun and Moon hints at the possible existence of Z, with his new forms likely appearing in a third installment rather than a whole new generation.

Likewise, Magearna appears to have been forced into Sun and Moon as well, with the pocket monster having a European appearance more resembling the region of X and Y than Sun and Moon. Both Zygarde and Magearna appear to have been stuffed into the Sun and Moon, indicating Z’s existence.

3 Reasons Pokemon Z Was Never Released

1. Easy Sale

The first reason Pokémon Z was never released was simply for sale. Although X and Y sold well, a whole new generation of games usually outsold a third installment. If you look at the sales of all main series games, not a single third installment in a generation makes the top 10 Pokemon game sales. Because of this, Z was never released and was therefore skipped due to possible poor sales.

2.Politics

Interestingly, as GamesSkinny.com points out, Gamefreak could have bottled the games due to the Paris terrorist attacks happening around a similar release window for a third installment. Z would have been in France, much like its predecessors. Therefore, possibly due to the ongoing crises within the nation, the games were never released.

3. Limited resources and time

Third, Z was never released, probably due to lack of resources and most importantly time. About a year after the company released the X and Y, the Omega Ruby and Sapphire were released, the long-awaited remakes of the original Ruby and Sapphire.

Releasing an entire generation alongside full 3D remakes likely gave the Pokémon Company very little time to develop a third game in generation six.

As with any popular game, remakes are requested by fans and the company must have felt a lot of pressure to release a Ruby and Sapphire remake given its popularity.

As a result, the company invested its time and money into the remakes rather than Z and therefore had very little time to develop a new game before releasing a new generation. Limited resources and time are most likely the reason for the lack of a third installment, as evidenced by X and Y’s limited Pokedex, the weakest in franchise history.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Pokémon Z was very likely the third part of the sixth generation in the works. But probably due to economic and to a lesser extent political constraints, the game was never released. Maybe one day we’ll learn more about Z.

Fictional Character

Ash Ketchum, known as Satoshi (サトシ) in Japan, is a fictional character in the Pokémon series by Nintendo. He is the protagonist of the Pokémon anime and certain manga series, as well as on various merchandise related to the franchise. In Japanese, the character is voiced by Rika Matsumoto and Hana Takeda. In the English dub, he was voiced by Veronica Taylor for the first eight seasons and by Sarah Natochenny since season 9.

Tajiri noted in an interview that between the Japanese and US reactions to the series, Japanese consumers focused on the character Pikachu, while the US bought more items featuring Ash and Pikachu, his Pokémon, together. He stated that he felt the character represented the concept of the franchise, the human aspect, and was a necessity. The character was given a rival named Gary Oak (Shigeru Okido in the Japanese version, after Tajiri’s idol/mentor, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto), loosely based on Red’s rival Blue. In an interview, Tajiri noted the contrast between the characters’ relationship in the games and anime; While they were rivals in the games, in the anime Shigeru represented Satoshi’s master. When asked if Satoshi would equal or surpass Shigeru, Tajiri replied, “No! Never!” [18] Ash’s character design was originally overseen by Sayuri Ichishi, who was replaced by Toshiya Yamada during the Diamond and Pearl storyline. Ash received a new design in Best Wishes! Taylor commented that Ash and the other characters “lightened up” after the anime’s first ten episodes. She believed writers were more relaxed and no longer felt the pressure to make sure everything was done right. Taylor commented, “I’m enjoying playing Ash a lot more now than when I first started because I get to have more fun with him and we kind of get to know him and figure out how he would really react. We have the classic Ash responses and things like that.”[23] Sarah Natochenny replaced Taylor in Season 9 when The Pokémon Company International (then known as Pokémon USA) took over licensing, leading to a shift in recording studios.[ 24]

For the Korean dubbing, Choi Deok-Hui provided the voice of Ash in the first five seasons and the first two films of the Korean adaptation of the Pokémon anime, which was dubbed by the Seoul Broadcasting System. A Hyeon-Seo replaced Deok-Hui in Pokémon movies three through five. Lee Seon-ho replaced Hyeon-Seo in Season 6 and the sixth Pokémon film.

In Pokémon the TV Series: XYZ, Season 19, Episode 28, “Seeing the Wood for the Trees!” the true story of why Ash Ketchum loved Pokémon is revealed. When he was a little boy, Ash went into the forest to look for wild Pokémon. However, while driving in the forest, it started to rain and Ash got lost and was so scared that he burst into tears. Ash had to take cover under a hollow tree. However, he noticed a group of Pokémon also taking shelter from the rain. So he invited her into the tree and the Pokémon kept him safe and warm.[27] This made Ash so happy that he wondered how much he wanted to become a Pokémon trainer so that he could travel all over the world with his Pokémon friends.

Ash had used his handkerchief to cover up her injury, which she kept, and returns to Ash in this episode.

In Episode 58 of Season 5 (Master Quest), “The Ties That Bind!”, Ash began his rivalry with Gary, Professor Oak’s grandson, after they both fished out an old PokéBall and then broke it in half. After that, Ash and Gary kept both halves as a reminder of the day they started their rivalry.

In anime

The series begins with the episode “Pokémon, I Choose You!” with Ash’s tenth birthday, which, according to the Pokémon Trainer Registration Rules, allowed him to become a full-fledged Pokémon trainer and obtain a starter Pokémon. As a 10-year-old from Pallet Town in the Kanto region, Ash had a choice of three starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. In this episode, while he planned to choose Squirtle, he instead received Professor Oak’s Electric-type Pokémon Pikachu because he woke up late and all the other starter Pokémon had been taken by other trainers. After receiving Pikachu and a Pokédex, Ash left Pallet Town to begin his journey. Since then, Ash has traveled the world of Pokémon, participating in many challenges and catching newer Pokémon. He has met many companions, such as Misty and Brock.

Throughout the series, Ash’s main enemies are a criminal organization called Team Rocket, most notably the two weird and bumbling members Jessie and James and their talking Meowth, who is essentially the third member of the group. Ever since they were defeated by Ash’s Pikachu in the second episode, “Pokémon Emergency!”, the three have never stopped chasing after them obsessively to steal Ash’s Pikachu, making them very rich. As perennial comic villains of the series, the Team Rocket trio occasionally show signs of kindness, such as caring and befriending their Pokémon and each other, and despite their constant animosity, they occasionally put their differences aside and work together with Ash against a common threat, as in Pokémon: The Movie 2000, where they help Ash find the three treasures to save the world.

During his travels, Ash still had much to learn as a trainer. He caught his Pokémon just by befriending them, knew absolutely nothing about fighting, and many of his sporting badges were earned quite controversially. In fact, the only legitimate victories over Lt. Surge, Koga, and Blaine, while the others were earned out of technical convenience or given to him out of gratitude. Ash also shows a deep love for Pokémon in the series, protecting wild Pokémon or his own from injury or trying to help them despite being significantly injured himself. He honed his skills as a Pokémon trainer and was able to obtain all 8 badges that allowed him to compete in the Indigo League. Ash made it to Round 5 and finished in the top 16 – a round ahead of his competitive rival Gary who finished in the top 32. However, due to his inexperience with his stronger Pokémon, Ash was eliminated from his first Pokémon League competition in a very unflattering manner, which disappointed him greatly, but he got over it and vowed not to make the same mistake in a league again close.

Ash traveled to the Orange Islands with Misty and Tracey Sketchit, a Pokémon Observer, earned all 4 badges, and faced off against Orange League Champion Drake in the Orange League. Ash was able to win his fight against Drake and give him his first league title as a Pokémon trainer. This particular Pokémon league only exists in the anime series and not in the video game series.

He then traveled further to the Johto region with Brock and Misty in hopes of meeting Gary and eventually defeating him in the Johto League. He won 8 badges and attended the Johto conference. Ash beat Gary again in the 1st round of the conference and was able to make it to the quarterfinals and finish in the top 8. However, he lost in the 2nd round.

Ash then moved on, traveling the Hoenn region alongside Brock and two new characters: May, an aspiring Pokémon Coordinator, and her younger brother Max, and together they brought down rival teams Team Magma and Team Aqua. He was able to get all 8 badges and then competed in the Hoenn Conference and lost in the 3rd round.

After going through several leagues and becoming much stronger, Ash decided to challenge the Kanto “Battle Frontier” and their 7 Brains (leaders). Brock, May and Max accompanied him. Ash defeated all Brains and acquired all 7 Battle Frontier symbols, becoming a “Strong Battle Frontier Champion” and qualifying to become a Frontier Brain himself. However, Ash, who wanted to learn more about Pokémon and become even stronger, decided to continue his journey as a trainer rather than as a limit brain. However, after acquiring all 7 symbols, he left the company with the privilege of becoming a Frontier Brain if and when he wants in the future.

Traveling to Sinnoh with Brock, Ash befriended Dawn, a new traveling companion, and found a fierce new rival in Paul; and during their journey, they encountered and defeated Team Galactic. Ash won all 8 Sinnoh Gym badges and attended the Sinnoh Conference on Lily of the Valley Island. He eventually faced and eventually defeated Paul in the Quarterfinals of the Sinnoh League Festival, marking the first time Ash had made it to the semifinals of a Pokémon League. After that, however, Ash met Tobias, a trainer who defeated all eight Gyms of the Sinnoh League and all other opponents using only his legendary Pokémon Darkrai. Ash was eventually defeated by Tobias, but not without defeating his Darkrai as well as his Latios, which is also a Legendary Pokémon that Ash also defeated with his last Pokémon in a tie, making Ash the only known trainer to have defeated two the legendary Pokemon of Tobias. Once again, Ash continued his journey to the Unova region using only his Pikachu. It was here that he met and traveled with two new companions: a trainer named Iris and a Pokémon connoisseur named Cilan, who, like Brock before him, is a gym leader. In Unova, Ash encountered and faced off against more rivals than before, including Trip, Bianca, Stephan, Cameron, and Virgil, most of whom were friends with him. Unlike previous seasons, Ash notoriously showed a decline in skill and proficiency, instead becoming a novice, showing little of his previous expertise and relearning many of the basics of catching Pokémon (although this may have been due to the over-excitement of entering ). a new region with exclusive Pokémon, and slowly diminished over the seasons). However, Ash still managed to win all eight Gym Badges in Unova and then entered the Unova League, where he defeated his arrogant rival Trip in the first match, but was defeated by Cameron in the Quarterfinals, one match down from his previous ranking the Pokémon League. Cameron was then defeated by Virgil, who won the league with his team from Eevee Evolutions. Also unlike previous seasons, Ash battled a much more malevolent Team Rocket as well as the evil Team Plasma. After his last attempt at competing in the Unova League and thwarting Team Rocket and Team Plasma’s attempts to enslave Pokémon to take over the world, Ash’s friends traveled with him back to Kanto, where they parted ways to create their own to walk away and say goodbye to each other.

Ash then ventured into the Kalos region to challenge the Kalos League and learn about Mega Evolution, a transformation that can transform certain fully evolved Pokémon into a more powerful temporary form. There he began traveling with siblings Clemont and Bonnie along with Serena, whom he met during a Pokémon summer camp in Pallet Town when they were much younger. Ash gained new rivals like Sawyer and Alain. In Kalos, Ash befriended and acquired new Pokémon, including Froakie, which later evolved into a powerful Greninja. Although Ash has yet to have a Pokémon that can Mega Evolve (at least not in his current party), the party discovered that his Greninja was capable of the “Bond Phenomenon,” a transformation in which Ash and Greninja bond mentally and become Greninjas Body changes a color scheme resembling ash. As with Mega Evolution, the transformation is temporary, making “Ash-Greninja” much more powerful and capable of defeating Mega Evolved Pokemon. Currently, no other known Pokemon is able to display the Bond phenomenon, and several rivals have expressed keen interest in competing with it in the Kalos League with their own Mega Evolved Pokemon. As before, Ash has earned all eight Gym Badges that qualify him to participate in the Kalos League, and with his newest Pokémon, Ash defeated many opponents and their Mega Evolved Pokémon, advancing to the finals and breaking his all-time high Rang was defeated by Alain.[29] After the tournament, Ash and his friends become involved with Team Flare, the local evil organization, the final operation to take over Kalos. During the Crisis, Ash and his Pokémon were captured by Team Flare, which he dealt with in contrast to Team Rocket and previous evil organizations, Team Magma and Team Galactic, who captured him so he wouldn’t get involved in their plans interfered or used him as a hostage since their leader Lysandre wanted to use him alongside Greninja in his schemes. Ash’s other Pokémon were used as hostages by Team Flare to get Ash and Greninja to work together. Team Flare used a mini version of their device that Zygarde can control to control Ash along with Greninja for their Bond Phenomenon while Pikachu and the rest of Ash’s Kalos Pokémon looked on in shock. However, Ash, who could hear Pikachu’s voice, and Greninja resisted Team Flare’s control, unable to break their fighting spirit and the bond they share for their friends and each other, and then used the Bond Phenomenon to get around them free from their bondage. After Alain freed Ash’s Pokémon from their bonds, Ash and his Pokémon were ready to stop Team Flare once and for all with Alain, who was once a member of Team Flare but decided to help stop them when he also seeing through his mistakes is his friendship with Ash, which helps. After Team Flare was stopped, Ash released Greninja to protect Kalos from other threats. Ash and Greninja wanted to get themselves and their friends, especially Pikachu and the rest of the Kalos members, out of the way, knowing that someone like Team Flare would not only try to use their abilities for evil, but anyone who close to them she is held hostage to get what they want. Ash then said goodbye to his friends before returning to Pallet Town once more.

While vacationing with his mother on the island of Melemele in the Alola region, Ash had an encounter with Tapu Koko, one of the local island guardian Pokémon, which gave him a Z-Ring, an item that allows a trainer to spawn super-powered attacks from their Pokemon. When Ash first used the Z-Ring with Pikachu, it created a massive surge of energy that overloaded and shattered the Z-Crystal that powers him, making Ash realize he had to learn to control it. In order to master the power of the Z-Ring, Ash then decides to stay in Alola and enroll in the Pokémon School, live with Professor Kukui, and study with his new classmates: Lana, Mallow, Lillie, Sophocles, and Kiawe, while he battles Team Rocket & Team Skull. During his stay in Alola, Ash not only encountered many new types of Pokémon, some of which became part of his new Pokémon team, but also took part in the Alolan Island Challenges, each of which resulted in a grand trial against each of the island’s kahunas ; Ash emerged victorious from both the challenges and the trials, earning various Z-Crystals. With the discovery of other-dimensional Pokémon known as Ultra Beasts emerging through wormholes, Ash and his classmates became part of the Ultra Guardian team tasked with capturing the Ultra Beasts and returning them to their own dimensions. Ash later competed in the Alola League, leading to his first win of the Pokémon League Conference Championship in his career as a Pokémon Trainer, breaking his last ranking in the league.[9] After the league ended, Ash decided to return to Pallet Town one more time to continue his journey and then say goodbye to his friends before heading to his hometown.

Ash went to a grand opening of a new research facility in Vermilion City with Professor Oak and his mother. After meeting Lugia and befriending a new trainer named Goh, Ash accepted the offer from the new research facility’s chief professor to be a special assistant alongside his new friend. After Ash accepted the offer, he decided to stay in Vermilion City since he and Goh will be traveling around the world to gather information about Pokémon. During his journey, Ash learns about Dynamax and even receives a Dynamax Band from current World Champion Leon, who is also the Galar Region Champion. After seeing that his Pikachu could do Gigantamax and losing an unofficial fight to Leon, Ash decided to compete in the World Championship so he could climb the ranks and one day have an official fight against the reigning world champion. After rising through the ranks, Ash was looking for Mega Evolution when he went to Kalos to retrieve a Keystone and a Megastone that increased his Aura abilities.

Ash has greatly improved his skills as a trainer over the course of the series. However, his seriousness and determination remain the same. During the first season of the series, Ash trained to catch more Pokémon than his childhood rival Gary Oak, although he was always shown as the stronger trainer. He soon began to focus more on his Pokémon’s abilities. Ash has shown he has the ability to sense and control aura, which was primarily used with either Riolu or Lucario. Also, Ash can use the Bond Phenomenon he used with one of his Pokemon. Through his love for Pokémon, Ash seems to understand their feelings, as he sometimes shares a connection with them as he feels their pain, sees their thoughts and memories, and allows them to appear in his dreams to ask for his help with various things Reason and hear what they say, although the abilities are usually shown mostly using Legendary Pokemon, but it was shown using a Mythical Pokemon once. In his journey so far, Ash has collected eight tokens from each of the major regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. He also received 4 Orange Archipelago Badges and defeated the Champion of the Orange Islands to win the Winners’ Trophy.[30] He also collected all seven Frontier symbols from Generation III Battle Frontier and was offered a position as future Frontier Brain, which he turned down. In the Alola region he has completed all of the Island Grand Trials, Melemele, Akala, Ula’Ula and Poni Island.

At the video games

Ash Ketchum was first mentioned in a video game in dialogue from Pokémon Play It![31] and his first in-game appearance was later in Pokémon Puzzle League, both of which were never released in Japan. He is also featured in the Japanese educational video games Pokémon: Catch the Numbers!, I’ve Begun Hiragana and Katakana! and Pico for Everyone, Pokémon Loud Battle!! for Sega Pico and as a player character in the English-language Windows games Pokémon Team Rocket Blast Off, Pokémon Poké Ball Launcher, and Pokémon Seek & Find, distributed by Perdue Farms.

In Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow and the Red and Blue remakes, a character very similar to Ash (named Red) appears as a playable character, as well as in cameos in Pokémon Black 2, White 2, Gold, Silver, their remakes , Sun and moon. The anime reimagined Red as Ash Ketchum, just as it reimagined Red’s rival Blue as Gary Oak and Ethan (the protagonist of the second generation Pokémon games as well as their remakes) as Jimmy. While they are counterparts, they are not the same characters because they come from different canons and thus evolved from different experiences. Although Pokémon Yellow has certain plot aspects inspired by the anime series, the player character is still called Red and not Ash.

In the Pokémon Sun and Moon demo, the player character Sun receives a letter from Ash, along with his Greninja, who can assume his “Ash-Greninja” form through his Battle Bond ability. Ash also makes a cameo appearance in the full game’s Ghost Trial, where you can see a blurry photo of him and his Pikachu in the back room.

The portrayals of Ash in the manga The Electric Tale of Pikachu and Ash & Pikachu are very similar to those in the anime. However, there are key differences in the manga. The Electric Tale of Pikachu is based on Ash’s journey to the end of the journey to the Orange Isles. Ash is usually seen traveling alone throughout this manga, although he is sometimes joined by Misty and Brock in Indigo. Misty is the only one who joins Ash in the Orange Islands. Although not quite as frequently parodied as the franchise mascot Pikachu, Ash still has many parodies and appearances in various other media, ranging from an unofficial fan-made film to multiple web media depictions, including many parodies on the YouTube Channel Smosh ]

Ash has a brief cameo appearance in The Simpsons animated series when, in the episode “Postcards from the Wedge,” the character Bart Simpson watches TV while doing his homework and a parody of the Pokémon anime appears on TV, starring Ash ( in something that looks like a loose parody of his Diamond & Pearl outfit) and Pikachu. Bart remarks, “Wow, how does this series stay fresh?”, which is both a reference to the length of the anime and, ironically, the length of The Simpsons itself. In the episode “The Perspiration Implementation” of the TV show The Big Bang Theory, Ash is referenced by the character Sheldon Cooper as he tries to ask a girl out, saying “And like Ash Ketchum said to Pikachu, I choose you.”, [34] specifically noting that Pikachu was Ash’s first Pokémon. In the episode “Chinpokomon” of the South Park animated series, a parody of Ash appears along with a parody of Team Rocket’s James as characters in a TV show parodying Pokémon. The title itself is a reference to Pokémon.

A character wearing Ash’s League Expo hat has a cameo appearance in episode 4 of Rick and Morty Season 4.[35]

Kalos League controversy

On August 18, 2016, the XYZ episode Kalos League Victory! Satoshi’s Greatest Decisive Battle (カロスリーグ優勝！サトシ頂上決戦, Karosurīgu yūshō! Satoshi chōjō kessen) (Down to the Fiery Finish! in the English dub) faced criticism from fans when Ash lost the Kalos League against Alain. The fans specifically criticized the episode due to misleading trailers that suggested that Ash would win the battle and because Ash had lost all of the Pokémon Leagues in past seasons.[29][56][57] Fans also disliked the outcome because they believed that Ash’s Greninja had many advantages over Alain’s Charizard, including the fact that Water-type Pokémon are capable of critically defeating Fire-type Pokémon,[58] and that the rare Bond Phenomenon Ash’s Greninja was subject to was said to be far more powerful than a conventional Mega Evolution. Several animators of the series also expressed disappointment that Ash had lost.[59] TV Tokyo’s YouTube upload of the teaser of the next episode received an overwhelming number of dislikes as a result of the outcome.[58]
