Mossberg 930 Semi Auto – Bolt Stuck Closed I’ve never owned a shotgun before but thought it was about time I gave it a try. I bought a Mossberg 930 (Guard Dog Edition) on sale at LGS a few months ago. To familiarize myself with the shotgun, I went through the ropes of loading and unloading (exactly according to the instructions in the manual). However, after the third loading of the shotgun (7 in the magazine + 1 in the barrel) the breech gets stuck closed.
I was able to unload the 7 in the magazine by disassembling the magazine. But it’s still 1 in the barrel and the bolt won’t budge no matter how hard I try (Federal Premium 2 3/4 12 Gauge Buckshot).
Any suggestions from the experienced shotgun guys how to solve this problem? Should I just take it to the local shooting range and try to shoot it out? Or does this indicate a problem with the shotgun? How about taking it to a local gunsmith for a quick fix (but that means transporting a loaded gun, and will a gunsmith do any work on a loaded firearm)?
Any advice on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.

So I went pigeon hunting with my vintage 2000. I come to my booth and load my first round. The latch was in the open position and started to loosen but stopped. I can’t get the damn thing shut!
I removed the shell that had been jiggle around in it for far too long.
Can anyone make any suggestions? I’ve been told that deleting the trigger group might unlock them, but hate to start guessing.

I think the first thing your blacksmith will try is heating/freezing. You heat the action with a heat gun and freeze the bolt. This increases the scope and is the first thing you can try out quickly and easily. To freeze the bolt use a can of Freeze Spray or if not available just a can of Electronics Canned Air from Radio Shack. With this you hold the aerosol can upside down so you get pure CO2 propellant which freezes the bolt. If the shutter is really almost too hot to touch and the shutter suddenly freezes, you get a lot more wiggle room because the shutter has expanded and the shutter has contracted. Then move very quickly to open the latch.
I bet a primer popped out or a sleeve length was too long or something, but who knows?
