Went to the skate park and got griptape thumbs. You’ve probably gotten it before, so you seem to be the best source. I’m pretty sure it will blister or hurt in the morning (I’ll go to bed and check this thread again after waking up), considering it’s going to blister, what can I do? Many Thanks.
How to Prevent Grip Tape Thumb, and Other Lessons
Last week I learned there was a cure for the dreaded “grip tape thumb,” a disease that afflicts many skateboarders when breaking in new decks. When you notice the start of GTT, just wrap your thumb in duct tape.
Also, last night after learning to skateboard for a summer, I found out that it’s easier to skate when your shoes are tied tight. Why, you might be wondering, did I just find out? ‘Cause I’m lazy I would prefer to tie my shoes just tight enough so they don’t fall off my feet and I don’t have to tie/untie them every time I wear them.
How did I find out? I decided to change it up a bit and tighten the strings. I’m trying to learn fakie ollies and something just didn’t feel right. I still can’t do them very well, but I felt better after tightening the laces.
I’m working on putting together a little video of my progress, but I still want to include a few tricks (even if they’re just variations on things I already know like fakie ollie, fakie nollie to boardslide, etc.). With that in mind, here’s a fun little video from the Ride5 Media Group who put this Evolution of Skate video together a few weeks ago.

I guess they want you to buy Etnies shoes or something. They make good shoes, I first started skating on an old fashioned, used/stolen pair of Etnies. I haven’t tried new Etnies but I liked these old ones because they had a good low profile and not too much sole or anything. They just felt that I had good contact with the board.
My new shoes are fancy looking DCs. They’re super comfortable, but I feel like they’re more style than substance. I’ll keep beating them up and getting something else probably after they wear out.
