Can you ship products?

Yes! Orders currently take 5-6 business days before they are delivered. Please contact us ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes! We ship to all countries from South Africa. All international packages are delivered with DHL within 3-5 business days (SUPER fast!) after the order fulfillment date. Please note that international packages may be subject to different import duties and taxes when entering different countries. We have no control over these taxes and duties that may apply.

How much does the shipping cost?

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and depend on your shipping address and the weight of your package. All international packages are sent with DHL and delivery takes about 3-5 business days after order fulfillment. They charge a shipping fee for each package up to 2 kg. Please note that international packages may be subject to different import duties and taxes when entering different countries. We have no control over these taxes and duties that may apply.

All South African orders are delivered by MyCourier and the cost is calculated at checkout and depends on the delivery address and the weight of the package. Delivery costs range from approximately R66 to R109 (outside areas may be charged slightly higher).

When will I receive my order?

When you place an order on our website, you will receive a confirmation email with a list of all the items you have ordered. As soon as your order is ready for dispatch (this takes a MAXIMUM of 5-6 working days), you will receive an SMS or email from the courier company with your tracking number.

For orders from South Africa: Your package will be delivered by MyCourier and delivery will take around a day or two depending on the delivery address you provided when placing your order.

For International Orders: Your order will be shipped by DHL and delivery will take around 3-5 business days depending on the address you provided when placing your order.

How do I track my order?

Once your order has been handed over to the courier, you will receive a tracking number with a tracking link via SMS or email. If there is a problem with your shipping address or contact number, please contact us ([email protected]) or contact the courier directly.

For orders from South Africa, track your package through the MyCourier website.

For international orders, track your package through the DHL website.

What is your refund/return policy?

We do not offer returns or refunds on our products. All sales are final. Slime textures and scents are preferred and we cannot refund items based on personal preference.

Always play with clean hands and on clean surfaces. Dirty hands and surfaces will cause mold to develop on your slimes. Slime can also arrive sticky or become sticky over time. Please read our online slime care sheet to learn more about slime care.

Slime is only suitable for people over 8 years of age. Small hands usually have trouble handling slime. Do not play with slime if you are sensitive to fragrance, perfume, or other household products such as body lotion, borax powder, or PVA glue. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

How do you make slime?

Our slime is made with non-toxic PVA glue, borax powder and/or body cream. Depending on the slime design, some may include scented oils, essential oils, air dried clay, fake snow, paint, food coloring, glitter, foam beads, charms, sprinkles and more! Read the description of a product carefully before you buy it to know exactly what is in it. Slime is a therapeutic toy that everyone can enjoy. Want to make your own slime? How do I play with slime?

However you want! There are no rules. You can stretch it, insert it, make bubbles with it, swirl it, crush it and much more! It can also be used as a study companion to keep your hands busy while you focus on your work. Please note that we recommend our products for people aged 8 and over. Children under the age of 8 tend to struggle with managing slime because their hands are small and hot. Always make sure you play with slime on clean surfaces and with SUPER clean hands to ensure the longevity of your slime. Read our online mucus care sheet here.

What do you recommend?

If this is your first time buying slime (hehe, welcome), I can recommend any slime from our “Clay Slime” and “Icing Slime” collection as both of these slime textures are very easy to work with. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, a great option is to try one of our slime kits, where you get a box of different slime textures and can experience different slimes in one quick purchase.

Slime has a shelf life of four years from the date of manufacture when stored in the original packaging and kept in a cool, dry place. To determine the age of the sealant in a squirt bottle (not an aerosol), locate the production date code above the label.

Here is an example: 8LX4500A18

8: Last digit of the year (e.g. 2018)

L: month produced. A = January, B = February, L = December

X: Production site

4500: Consecutive batch number of the sealant

A: The batch sequence ran that day. A = First batch, B = Second batch

18: Day of the month produced

OUR BASIC SLIME RECIPES

All of our holiday, seasonal, and everyday slimes use one of five basic slime recipes that are super easy to make! We make slime all the time, and these have become our favorite slime recipes!

I’ll always let you know which basic slime recipe we used in our photos, but I’ll also tell you which of the other basic recipes work as well! You can usually swap out several of the ingredients depending on what slime supplies you have on hand.

Here we use our Liquid Starch Slime recipe. Liquid starch slime is one of our favorite sensory play recipes! We make it all the time because it’s so quick and easy to make. Three simple ingredients {one is water} is all you need. Add color, glitter, sequins and you’re done!

Where do I buy liquid starch?

We pick up our liquid starch at the grocery store! Check the detergent aisle and look for the bottles labeled starch. Ours is Linit Starch (brand). You may also see Sta-Flo as a popular option. You can also find it at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and even craft stores.

But what if I don’t have liquid starch available?

This is a fairly common question from people living outside of the United States, and we have a few alternatives to share with you. Click the link to see if any of these work! Our saline slime recipe also works well for Australian, Canadian, and UK readers.

If you don’t want to use liquid starch now, be sure to try one of our other basic recipes using saline or borax powder. We’ve tested all of these recipes with equal success!

NOTE: We’ve found that Elmer’s specialty glues tend to be a bit tackier than regular Elmer’s clear or white glue, so we always prefer our basic 2-ingredient glitter slime recipe for this type of glue.

THE SCIENCE OF CLOUD GUM

We always like to add a bit of homemade slime science here! Slime makes an excellent chemistry demonstration and kids love it too! Mixtures, substances, polymers, crosslinking, physical states, elasticity and viscosity are just a few of the scientific concepts that can be explored with homemade slime!

What is slime science about? The borate ions in the slime activators (sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid) mix with the PVA glue (polyvinyl acetate) to form this cool, stretchy substance. That’s called networking!

The glue is a polymer and consists of long, repeating and identical strands or molecules. These molecules flow past each other, keeping the glue in a liquid state. Until…

You add the borate ions to the mix, and it then begins to bind those long strands together. They begin to tangle and mix until the substance resembles less of the liquid you started with and thicker and gummy like slime! Slime is a polymer.

Imagine the difference between wet spaghetti and leftover spaghetti the next day. As the slime forms, the tangled strands of molecules resemble a lump of spaghetti!

Is slime liquid or solid?

We call it a non-Newtonian fluid because it’s a little bit of both! Experiment with making the slime more or less viscous with different amounts of foam beads. can you change the density

CLOUD SLIME RECIPE

This recipe makes a single batch. If you want to make a larger batch of slime, you can easily double or triple the recipe.

CLOUD SLIME INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup clear or white PVA school glue

1/4 cup liquid starch

1/2 cup water

food coloring

Instant snow

HOW TO MAKE CLOUD MUD

STEP 1: In your bowl, add 1/2 cup White Washable School Glue (add food coloring now or later when making the snow).

STEP 2: Slowly mix in 1/4 cup liquid starch and stir until slime forms.

Add your slime activator, the liquid starch, to complete the chemical reaction to make slime. Add the activator slowly. For a single batch of slime, 1/4 cup of starch is enough. If you find it’s still too sticky, keep adding a few drops at a time until you find the consistency you want.

SLIME MAKING TIP:

If your cloud slime still feels too sticky, you need more activator or liquid starch

. Be careful and add a little at a time until you get the consistency you want. If you add too much liquid starch, your slime will become stiff and gummy. You can always add, but you can’t take away.

When making slime for the first time, you usually need to experiment a bit to find the slimy consistency that’s right for you. Slime making can be a bit like Goldilocks finding the right bed or mush. Some kids like it messier and some kids like it tighter.

STEP 3: Make your instant snow by following the package directions (see below). Add food coloring to the water if you like.

STEP 4: Add about 1/2 cup of instant snow to your base slime and enjoy the satisfying mixture!

DIY INSTANT SNOW FOR CLOUD SLIME!

Now it’s time to make your instant snow! As brands may vary in the instructions, follow the directions on your container. Making snow instantly is crazy cool, so make sure the kids can see the process. I guarantee it will turn heads!

Add food coloring for fun colors!

Instant Snow is fun to play with and it’s all cool science. Take a few minutes and enjoy the snow before mixing it into your cloud slime!

Now for the fun part of the slime recipe and the most satisfying part too! It’s time for you to add the instant snow to your slime! Go ahead and add a few handfuls. I usually stick to around half a cup, but that’s up to you.

My son enjoyed adding more and more until we have crazy thick cloud dough. Again, slime making is a science and it’s all about experimenting with the process and ingredients.

Mix it up and enjoy the slimy fun!

Cloud slime has a distinctive appearance that is evident in the texture and appearance of the slime.

Your slime can become less solid as you add more and more snow! You can go ahead and add a few drops of activator (liquid starch) to achieve your desired slime consistency if you’d like!

HOW TO STORE SLIME?

Slime lasts quite a while! I get a lot of questions about how I store my slime. We use reusable containers made of plastic or glass. Be sure to keep your slime clean, it will last for several weeks. I love the deli-style containers that I included in my list of recommended slime supplies.

If you want to send kids home from camp, a party, or a classroom project with some slime, I would suggest packages of reusable containers from the dollar store or grocery store or even Amazon. For large groups, we used spice jars and labels, as seen here.

Although the trend started way back in 2016, the sticky substance is still a popular toy for its rich colors and ASMR qualities.

A few years ago, the bright and colorful substance known as slime took the internet by storm. It seemed like no matter how hard you tried, there was no escape from the goo. Slime videos were popping up all over Instagram and YouTube, and with 26 million views, one of the most popular videos was: “Most satisfying Slime video ever!!! (compilation) // diySatisfying.”

Every day it seemed like more and more people would join this trend. Stores that only sold slime, like Slime Obsidian and Slime New York, grew in popularity. Individuals opened Instagram accounts where they filmed themselves reviewing slimes or playing with various forms of the toy made from scratch.

As the trend continued, the types of slimes became more colorful and creative. Just a few of the slimes invented during the initial obsession were clear clay mixes, foam bead mixes, jelly cube mixes, and even artificial snow mixes.

How Slime Became Popular

The goo existed long before the trend started in 2016. It was developed by the Mattel brand in 1976 and has been a popular children’s toy ever since. One of the toy’s greatest appeals was its sticky and gooey texture. Slime was so popular with kids that it was even used on Nickelodeon game shows in an event called Slime Bath, where an unsuspecting participant was completely coated in the gooey, green material.

Although the substance has been loved by children since its launch, it wasn’t used in the way it is today until about 2016; Then the stores and videos exploded. But what exactly caused the shift? When did slime go from being a simple toy for kids to becoming an internet sensation? And why are people still obsessed with the stuff four years later?

There doesn’t seem to be a definitive answer to these questions, but there are many theories. Some people argue that slime videos are so popular because it’s visually appealing to see someone playing around with a bright and gooey material. It appeals to people’s inner child and they are mesmerized by the variation in colors and textures.

It’s believed that one of the main reasons people either love or hate slime videos is the squishy sound it makes when touched. Slime videos fall under the ASMR category, which stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. While this sounds like an extremely scientific term, very little research has been completed on the ASMR phenomenon to date.

Those who enjoy ASMR videos claim that listening to an ASMR recording gives them a pleasant tingling sensation in their scalp, spine, and other body parts. Some claim that listening to ASMR is immensely calming. And it is possible that these experiences are not just a pipe dream.

A study completed in 2018 found that participants who listened to ASMR had observable physiological experiences, such as a decreased heart rate and increased skin conductance. There is evidence that ASMR may have positive physical and mental health benefits, and this may be one reason why people are so obsessed with mucus.

The downside of slime

It seems like slime could have some positive benefits for those who enjoy the sound of the substance, but not all about this trend is good. Production of mucus has increased since the trend exploded in 2016. Whole slime shops have opened up, making different types of products that can be shipped to consumers who want to buy their own sticky toy.

Hundreds of Instagram accounts popped up where people started making their own slimes. The trend has even made its way onto the popular app TikTok. Videos under the #slime label have garnered over 11.3 billion views and more videos are being added every day.

It makes sense that people would want to capitalize on the insanely popular trend, but often people buy slime to play with until boredom sets in and the toy is thrown in the trash. The practice of buying slime and throwing it away a few weeks later is problematic because one of the main components of the substance is glue.

Glue is created through a mixture of chemical reactions and is not environmentally friendly. While glue isn’t the worst thing for the environment, dumping massive amounts of slime in landfills when people are done having fun with it isn’t great. Also, slime additives like foam balls, fake snow, and styrofoam jelly cubes are not readily biodegradable, and discarding these unnecessarily into the environment can be dangerous.

Boron, another key chemical in most slimes, is also dangerous to both humans and the environment. It is harmful if swallowed, which is not a good trait for a child’s toy. Once the slime is forgotten and thrown away, boron lingers in the environment for an extremely long time and can be harmful to marine animals if it enters their habitat.

How to make your own slime

Fortunately, there are solutions to the environmental problems caused by slime. You can avoid buying the toy from online stores by making an eco-friendly version from home. Some recipes include water, cornmeal, and food coloring. Others are made with cornstarch, food coloring, and small amounts of non-toxic glue. Both are safe for children and contain no boron.

At the end of the day, there are worse things for the environment than slime. However, for people who care about being eco-friendly and leaving the smallest ecological footprint possible, these recipes allow them to safely participate in the trend. And if you don’t want to go through the hassle of making slime from scratch, watching slime videos on YouTube is still a great way to enjoy the trend and experience ASMR for yourself.
