These DIY glitter wine glasses are perfect for adding a little sparkle to your holiday gatherings.

My DIY glitter mugs are one of my favorite projects ever and people have asked me if the same technique works for wine glasses and it does!

It is important to keep in mind the 30 day curing time for these glasses. So if you want them for Christmas, start now so they have time to cure and become fully waterproof and dishwasher safe.

**Glitter has become quite a controversial crafting material, but there are better glitters out there! Always use safe glitter practices by not flushing glitter down the drain and look for glitters that are labeled biodegradable.

How to seal the glitter on the wine glasses:

Using a large, soft brush (DO NOT use a sponge brush for this as it tends to grab the glitter), gently brush a thicker layer of dishwasher safe Mod Podge over the glitter.

Just put it in a place where it won’t be touched and check after about 12 hours (depending on temperature and humidity).

Glitter Wine Glasses FAQ and Troubleshooting I first published this project in 2017, so I asked a lot of questions and helped people troubleshoot their project. Hopefully these useful tips will help make your project great!

What can I use to seal glitter on glass? For best results, I recommend using dishwasher safe Mod Podge according to the instructions above to both adhere the glitter to the glass and seal it to the jars.

If you follow the directions as written, no additional sealing is required.

Can I craft glittery wine glasses with Mod Podge? YES – as long as it’s the one with a blue label. Dishwasher safe Mod Podge with blue label.

This project WILL NOT WORK with any other Mod Podge formula. Do not use a traditional red or yellow label mod podge or homemade “mod podge” to complete this project. It won’t turn out.

Can I seal the glitter with hairspray? no If you complete this project according to the instructions for applying glitter with dishwasher safe Mod Podge and sealing glitter with dishwasher safe Mod Podge, the glitter will adhere permanently to the glass.

It will not shed and no additional sealing is needed.

How to prevent glitter from falling off? If you watch the video of me making the glitter jars, you can see that I tap the jar vigorously after applying the glitter to the wet decoupage medium (mod podge).

This is to remove glitter that doesn’t actually stick to the glass.

Once you have done this, allow the mod podge or decoupage medium to dry completely. If you need to touch up a few spots or add another layer of glitter, apply another layer of Mod Podge or decoupage medium, apply the glitter, tap to remove and allow to dry completely.

Once the medium is completely dry, use dishwasher safe mod podge or decoupage medium to seal the glitter onto the glass.

This will prevent it from falling or falling off.

Is Mod Podge waterproof? Regular formula Mod Podge is NOT waterproof. The dishwasher safe Mod Podge (with a blue label that says “dishwasher safe” IS waterproof once applied and cured for 30 days.

Do not use any other Mod Podge formula or your glitter glasses will not fall out and you will be sad.

Does Mod Podge Clear dry on glitter? Yes. The finished projects shown below have been sealed and the seal is clear.

If your Martha Stewart Decoupage Medium or dishwasher safe Mod Podge is cloudy, it is either because it has not dried completely OR because you did not allow the formula to cure the full 30 days before using and washing.

Can you bake glitter wine glasses in the oven to harden them? no Don’t bake these jars in the oven!

Glitter is not rated for high heat and will melt.

If you want to make DIY wine glasses that have both glitter and another type of design that needs to be heat set, apply the design to heat set FIRST.

Once it’s set and cured, follow the instructions in this tutorial for applying the glitter.

My glitter got sticky and dripped off the wine glass. In this case you applied too much Mod Podge or decoupage medium. You should apply a generous coat, but not so generous that it drips.

Spread the Mod Podge evenly over the wine glasses before applying glitter, then allow to dry completely before applying additional coats of Mod Podge or glitter.
