How to find the color of your car

When trying to figure out the exact color of your car, the paint code is what matters. This specific code, which can be a combination of numbers and/or letters, correlates to a specific color formula and name that perfectly suits your vehicle.

Luckily, finding your car’s color code is not the most difficult task in the world and there are several ways to find your vehicle color code. Such methods include looking for the elusive number in the driver’s door frame, under the hood, in the glove box, or in the spare tire well. You’d be surprised how many C7 and C8 Corvette owners don’t know what Carbon Flash Metallic Black is. Owners are surprised to learn that Carbon Flash Metallic Black (CFZ) can be found throughout their Corvette (although there are a few exceptions, which we’ll detail later).

These are special cars that deserve special attention, and Chevrolet delivers that attention to detail. Let’s take a closer look at your Corvette and find out exactly where that beautiful paint job is…

What is Carbon Flash Metallic Black?

C7 Corvette:

Carbon Flash Metallic Black (paint code WA501Q) is the black finish for your hood insert, grille, fender insert, spoiler (if you don’t have the body color option), rear diffuser and taillight surround. Optional are the CFZ mirrors, ground effects, hubcaps and more. See the picture below which has each part painted in CFZ closeup. Locate these areas on your Corvette. Note: Grand Sports come with body-colored upper quarter scoops and a matte black grille.

From afar, your eyes perceive a glossy black finish; A closer look at the paint, however, reveals a constellation of silver metallic speckles – giving it that flash.

C8 Corvette:

CFZ can still be found on the new generation of 2020-up Corvettes, and for good reason: it’s a nice accent color! The gloss black appearance from a distance highlights the contours of the C8, while up close the silver metallic flake reveals a complexity in its finish that matches that of the new mid-engined Corvette.

However, carbon flash black is not as prevalent on the C8 as it is on the C7. So where exactly is the Carbon Flash Black on your C8? The simple answer is, if it’s black, then it’s Carbon Flash Black.
