Aroma Rice Cooker Instructions & Recipe (small & digital cooker)

We will cover the two types of flavored rice cookers in this post

Sometimes cooking rice can be a little hurdle, but we’re here to help. We tested two of the most popular rice cookers on the market, the Aroma Select Stainless® Rice & Grain Cooker and the Aroma Digital Rice & Grain Multicooker.

The Aroma Select Stainless® Rice and Grain Cooker is a simple rice cooker with a 100% food-grade 304 stainless steel pot for cooking rice and various grains. It’s a one-button system that makes cooking rice in your kitchen easy. We’ve picked a six-cup rice cooker in white, but they also come in red and black, and a larger 14-cup rice cooker. If you want a simple machine and aren’t too picky about your rice, then the Select Stainless® Rice & Grain Cooker is your rice cooker of choice.

The Aroma Digital Rice & Grain Multicooker is a bit more complex as it can steam not only rice but also oatmeal, other grains, chili and even vegetables. It also includes a digital screen and delay timer for scheduled meals. While the Select Stainless® Rice & Grain Cooker model is made of stainless steel, this version has a ceramic non-stick coating. This version we tested is an eight-cup rice cooker.

Between the two machines, we prefer the Aroma Digital because it gives you plump and even grains of rice compared to the Aroma Select Stainless, which can often give you unevenly cooked rice or slightly wet and slightly hard rice grains. This difference in rice consistency is due to the type of heating element in each machine.

The Aroma Digital features an induction heating element that cooks food evenly throughout the chamber, and the Aroma Select Stainless heats the rice from a single hotplate, which can have hotter spots than others – this can also result in burnt rice on the bottom of the pot. We also appreciated that when the Aroma Select Stainless just toggled from On to Warm, the Aroma Digital beeped loudly to alert us that the rice was done; This could result in dried out rice if you forget to cook.

The Aroma Rice Cooker Manuals

Each rice cooker also comes with manuals detailing how much rice and water to cook. These models also include special rice measuring cups that you must use if you follow the instructions. A rice measuring cup is equivalent to ¾ of a conventional measuring cup. For the most part, both models use the same measurements for cooking white rice, but each manual shows it differently.

The Aroma Digital recommends using a rice to water ratio of 1:1.33, which means for every 1 cup of rice, you need to add 1 ⅓ cup of water to the pot. The Aroma Select Stainless says to use 2 cups of rice and add the water to the pot up to the 2 line. We’ve measured this at around 16 fluid ounces (or 480mL, or two traditional liquid measuring cups), and that means we’re leaning more towards a 1:1 ratio. This latter 1:1 ratio is similar to our rice cooker post for our National brand rice cooker.

Online manuals are also available for each Aroma Rice Cooker. You can access the Digital Rice & Grain Multicooker manual here and the Select Stainless® Rice & Grain Cooker manual here. If you have other types of

How Much Rice Should You Use?

When cooking in any of these rice cookers, it is important to know the maximum amount of rice you can cook for each cooker. The Aroma Digital can cook between two and eight cups of cooked rice per batch. The Aroma Select Stainless can hold between two and six cups of cooked rice per batch. When we refer to cups, this refers to the rice measuring scoop that each rice cooker comes with as it is different from traditional measuring cups.

Does the rice need to be washed?

Yes, rice should definitely be washed. Washing rice helps remove excess dirt and debris that may be left over during processing. They also remove extra starch on the grains and this helps avoid congee. Note that if you’re using fortified rice, washing rice can remove some of these nutrients.

Rice to water ratio to use for flavor rice cookers

I have found that the best rice to water ratio for Aroma Select Stainless is 1:1 and the ratio for Aroma Digital is 1:1.33.

It’s important to note that each cooker comes with its own measuring spoon, which measures approximately ¾ cup. All measurements in these manuals that refer to “cups” refer to that particular rice scoop. If you choose to use a traditional dry measuring cup, be sure to use the ¾ cup rather than a full one-cup scoop.

While the Aroma Digital lists the ratio of the number of white rice cups to water cups, the Aroma Select Stainless uses the waterline inside the rice pot. They also use a completely different chart for brown rice and grains, so make sure you use the correct chart.

Number of Rice Spoons Rice by Weight Water Line Water Spoon Water Volume (mL) Water Volume (fl oz) 1 150 g Line 1 1 1/3 8 oz 8 fl. oz. oz. 2 300g Line 2 2 1/3 475ml 16 fl. oz. 3 450g Line 3 3 1/3 620ml 21 fl. oz.

When the switch goes up and the “warm” light comes on, it’s done. Leave the lid on for an additional 10 minutes to allow the rice to absorb additional moisture. How to fix rice and recipe problems

Sometimes cooking rice can give you little hiccups, and we’re here to help. Here are some ways to troubleshoot your rice recipes:

If your rice is too hard, you need more water in your rice. You can fix this by placing it in a microwave-safe bowl and pouring about two tablespoons over the rice and placing a towel over it. Microwave for 30 second increments until you have a soft and tender rice. If it’s still hard, you can slowly add more water and microwave.

If your rice is too wet and soggy, then you have too much water in your rice. Unfortunately, you can’t extract water from the rice, so the next time you cook rice, you’ll need to reduce the amount of water proportionately. If you don’t want to waste rice this time, you can reuse the rice to make cháo gà (Vietnamese congee with chicken).

How to clean your rice cooker

When cleaning a rice cooker, be sure to wait until the rice pot has completely cooled before rinsing it out. With the Aroma Select Stainless you can clean the interior and the glass lid in the sink with soapy water. Allow to dry completely or wipe dry before cooking again.

To clean the Aroma Digital, you should only wash the inner rice pot, all loose accessories used in cooking (rice paddles, rice cups), the inner lid and the condensate collector. Use soapy water to rinse out any residue and dry completely on a dish rack or with a towel. Do not use hard metal sponges to clean the chamber as this can damage the non-stick ceramic coating. Dry all parts thoroughly before using the rice cooker again.
