So what I would do to see if it really has raccoon smell in it is put some on a cloth and get it airborne by a good dog and see if he goes nuts. If he does then use it, if not keep trying to catch a raccoon and put a pan under it and catch the urine or put an old towel in the cage with it. You can use the urine on cotton balls or use the towel to pull. When you’re done with the towel, place it in a paper bag and place it in the freezer. This way you can keep it fresh for years. While the weather is inclement and they can’t work much of a trail, try putting the towel in the tree, then take your dog upwind and walk him over the wind and watch him. If you think he smells it, let him go. If you can get it to catch itself, it will help it with lay-ups.
If your dog likes you, have someone hold him while you hide. You can teach him a lot from a young age about reading tracks, setting tracks and letting them run and dangle you.
I think that’s better than letting them roam free and have them learn on Possom and then separate them from the stuff later. Sorry board tonight, didn’t come hunting.
