Dendrobium Orchid
This is a small white flower with pink petal tips and a burgundy colored neck in the cup.
The orchid family consists of a large number of genera, each with their own unique characteristics. A common feature, however, is the basic shape of the flower, which consists of three petals surrounded by three sepals – often in dramatic and contrasting colors and in a variety of shapes and sizes. Although some orchids are native to temperate zones, most orchids prefer semi-tropical or tropical environments (USDA Zones 9-11) and have epiphytic roots – meaning they get moisture and nutrients from the air and support from another plant will; Few orchids grow in soil. Orchids usually prefer a diurnal temperature variation – i. H. warmer days and cooler nights—although the absolute temperature range (cool, moderate, or warm) varies by genus and is consistent with their natural habitat. Although most orchids require sufficient sunlight for breathtaking flowering, they do not tolerate prolonged direct sun.
Many cultivars have pseudobulbs, a part of the stem between the leaf nodes that stores water to sustain the plant through dry spells. Other strains are monopodial, meaning upward growth occurs from a single growing point.
To almost every general statement that can be made about orchids, there is an exception. The family continues to challenge taxonomists.
