Black Paint For Glass? The 185 Detailed Answer

I’m concerned about food safety, but I’d be far less concerned with screw-on salt and pepper attachments than I would be with plates, mugs, and storage containers. If one is only painting the outside of the panels one could first remove the rust and oxidation with a wire brush or sandpaper, then use very fine emery paper (with the black waterproof grit) to progressively smooth out the deeper scratches say 200 grit to 400 , then 600. I went down to an 800 grit on Sterling grit to get as shiny a finish as possible before buffing. Then clean thoroughly with 91% rubbing alcohol, dry and paint with white primer. You just want enough to coat. Allow to dry and cure according to the tin’s instructions, then spray paint with gold or silver spray paint, or any other color that suits your project. Allow to cure, then use a high gloss spray clear suitable for the spray paint. All of the above surfaces are mildly toxic if food has sufficient contact, but salt and pepper only come into contact with the holes for a second or two. It’s not like something liquid or acidic like tomato sauce or even heated is in contact with the finish long enough for it to even dissolve.

I also just discovered that for the final gloss finish you can use a water based clear coat that brushes on like a water based polyurethane which is non toxic or maybe less toxic but not officially food safe. I don’t know if it comes in a spray as most spray products for painting or finishing are petroleum based. I have used a water based brush to coat a painted gold picture frame with clear coat to keep the gold from darkening because I have experienced kerosene based clear coats interacting with kerosene based paints and changing their appearance, color and dulling to let. Anyway, while I’m extraordinarily careful to keep things food safe, I’d scrape the tops off myself. I don’t necessarily recommend anyone else to do it – my disclaimer.

Smooth and reflective glass is a beautiful canvas for color. However, if you’ve never tried painting glass, you might be surprised to learn that the approach differs from that used for traditional building materials. Even so, it’s easy for beginners to achieve satisfying, often remarkable, results.

Notes on Materials

At least three types of paint may be used on glass: acrylic paints, acrylic paints labeled as suitable for tile or glass, and specially formulated solvent-based paints. Your local store will likely have a range of options (see example on Amazon). For your selection, compare the products by color range, transparency and durability.

Step 1

Before you can successfully paint glass, take the time to clean it thoroughly. Use hot soapy water in combination with a clean cotton cloth. Wait for the glass to dry completely before proceeding. Also remember that it is advisable to wear latex gloves while working to avoid smearing the glass with your fingers.

Regardless of which type of glass color you have chosen, be sure to read the instructions for use that came with the product. Some lens colors require peripheral steps such as B. the application of a primer or top coat. Ignoring such requirements could mean compromising the quality of your finish.

Any type of brush can be used. While brushes with synthetic bristles leave visible lines, brushes with natural bristles ensure smooth, even coverage. Applicator sponges, on the other hand, are the most common choice for painting with a stencil. Do-it-yourselfers can usually find a stencil or decals that can make the project easier.

If you have access to both sides of the glass surface to be painted, consider the following approach. It’s not stenciling per se, but the technique is similar, and if you’re aiming to create a specific, pre-planned pattern, it’s easier this way (as opposed to freehand). Simply draw your pattern on a piece of paper and then hold that paper against the glass on the side opposite the side you are painting. As you proceed, use the pattern as a guide to keep your lines straight and your proportions correct.

The necessity of the next step depends on the chosen glass color. The problem is that painted glassware often needs firing to preserve its finish. The heat of the oven stabilizes the color and gives it durability. Consult the instructions that came with your product to determine if this step is necessary. If you haven’t made a purchase yet, try to find a glass color that will last without baking. Also know that stained glass pens are an option; Their fine tips are particularly good for detailed work and writing.

Acrylic paints are one of the most versatile mediums on the market today. Artists enjoy using it on a variety of surfaces including regular canvas, paper, and even t-shirts. But can it be used on glass? Acrylic paints have always been my favorite color to work with, so I can give you a definitive answer.

Acrylic paints can be used on almost any glass object. However, if you want to make sure your work will last or not wash off, you need to use permanent acrylic paint. Alternatively, you can seal it with sealant or bake it in.

Sealing with a gloss finish like those found on Amazon is my preferred method.

Now let’s talk a little more about using acrylic on glass and answer some frequently asked questions.

With acrylic paint on glass

Not all types of acrylic paint work well on glass. There are two types of acrylic paints that are best suited for permanently painting glass:

acrylic window paint

acrylic lacquer paint

These types adhere very well to smooth surfaces.

Think of light

One important thing to consider when choosing your acrylic paint is opacity. Typically, you want light to shine through your design and highlight areas of your choice. Choose a less opaque type of paint to accomplish this task.

Still, don’t shy away from using more opacity as a tool to enhance your work. A more opaque color looks more vibrant and darker and can add depth to your work. In fact, the type of finish an artist chooses sets the tone of the work.

Don’t forget texture

The type of surface treatment can also add texture to a glass work of art. Something cool to know is that acrylic paints can be bought in 3 basic finishes: gloss, matte, or frosted.

Prepare

Before you start painting a glass object, some preliminary work is required. Your glass piece needs to be washed with soap and water. Do not use any abrasive material to clean your glass as this material can leave scratches.

Follow these basic steps to clean the glass and you can’t go wrong:

Wash the surface – Warm water can be used to remove oils clinging to the surface of the glass. To prevent extra oils from your hands from sticking to the glass, consider washing your glass piece with latex gloves. Let it air dry. After rinsing the glass, it’s best not to rush into anything. Let it air dry for the best result. Clean the surface “over the top” – you want to be 100% sure there is no oil on the surface. Sometimes water doesn’t get everything. So take a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol to wipe the glass. Air Dry Again – After wiping the surface with alcohol, you can allow it to air dry. Then it’s ready for painting.

Can acrylic paint be washed off glass?

Acrylic paint can be permanent or washable depending on the paint you use.

TO MAKE IT LONG LASTING – If you want your artwork to last, you should choose paint that’s designed for glass. Regular acrylic paints not made for use on glass, such as Americana by DecoArt (Click to see on Amazon), would work well for temporary designs.

They use this paint because it can be easily removed after the holiday.

Properly remove acrylic paint

To remove acrylic paint from a window or other glass surface, you need to saturate it. Just make sure you’re using too much water; it should not run down your glass. After the water has soaked into the paint, it can be removed with either a razor blade or an old plastic credit card.

How do you stick acrylic paint on glass?

The biggest enemy of paint on glass is oil. Acrylic paint won’t stick to the glass if the stuff is on the surface.

While I’ve given you a guide on how to clean the glass yourself, sometimes normal washing won’t remove all of the oil. If you want to make sure you have no problems and avoid problems with acrylic paints sticking to glass, professional painters coat their project with a coat of all-purpose sealer.

This first coat of sealer needs a full 24 hours to dry before you can begin painting.

How to seal acrylic paint on glass

Once you’re done painting, you want to make sure it stays there forever. There are two ways to seal acrylic paint to glass: use a sealer and bake it in.

Using a sealant

Before you start sealing, you should make sure your paint is completely dry. When using a sealer like the one I recommend, you have to choose between a spray application or a brush application. Many people prefer to use the spray-on variety because it allows you to seal your work without directly interacting with the painted glass.

While you should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, here are some tips to help you maximize the success of your project:

The sealant should be sprayed or brushed on in a well-ventilated area. Spray sealers must be sprayed from a distance of 12 inches. This ensures that your painted glass gets a thin layer of product with no drips.

When spraying, it’s important to use a back and forth motion across the entire project surface. Leaving the spray in one spot for an extended period of time can cause your seal coats to become uneven.

Fifteen minutes is usually enough to wait for each layer of sealant to dry. People recommend 4-5 coats of sealer sprayed on to protect your acrylic painted glass artwork.

When using a brush sealer, it’s important to remember to brush on light layers. Brush-on sealers take longer to dry between coats. Most require you to wait an hour between coats. You only need to apply three coats for an effective seal.

Seal by baking the jar

The baking process does not involve sealant. All you have to do is place your project in the oven and set the temperature to around 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The oven does not need to be preheated. If your glass artwork heats up or cools down too quickly, it can break.

Bake your painted artwork on the above setting for about 30 minutes. When it’s done baking, simply turn off the oven and let the piece cool in the oven.

Important: your results may vary with this method, make sure you check that your jar is actually a good candidate for baking.

In addition to acrylic paints, there are many types of paint that can work well on glass. Here are a few:

Final Thoughts

Whether you need to clean up accidental splashes or spills, fix a mistake made during a painting project, or remove unwanted artwork, it’s almost always possible to remove acrylic paint from glass. Glass is non-porous, so acrylic paint just sits on the surface and doesn’t penetrate, making it relatively easy to remove paint from glass. Sometimes it’s as easy as scraping or wiping the paint off. If the glass surface has been primed before painting and then sealed, the job can be more difficult and require harsh solvents. Use trial and error, starting with one of the gentler options and progressing to chemical cleaners as needed.

Removal of wet paint and minor imperfections

If you need to touch up a mistake while painting glass, or if you accidentally spill or splash acrylic paint on glass, work as quickly as possible while the paint is still wet. Plain water might be enough to remove acrylic paint while still wet from the glass, so try wiping the paint off with a damp cloth, paper towel, or cotton swab. If traces of paint remain, wipe again with rubbing alcohol or window cleaner. If you want to paint over the surface again, let the glass dry completely first.

Start with solvent-free methods

Before you resort to harsh chemicals to remove acrylic paint from glass, start with the gentler options of scraping the paint or scrubbing with hot, soapy water. Use a plastic paint scraper, spatula, or the edge of a credit or gift card to scrape dried acrylic paint off the glass. If you’re lucky, the paint will just slide off the surface.

If scraping alone doesn’t remove all of the paint, switch to scrubbing with soapy water. Mix some hot water and dish soap in a sink or bowl, soak a non-abrasive scourer or scrubber in the hot, soapy water, and scrub the paint off the glass. If the glass item is small enough, try soaking it in hot, soapy water for about 15 minutes to loosen the paint before scrubbing it away.

Try different household solvents

A number of common household solvents effectively remove acrylic paint from glass without damaging the glass. The less harsh options recommended by color experts are denatured alcohol and rubbing alcohol along with window cleaner, hairspray, and fabric softener. Apply these products to a cloth or scrubber and wipe or scrub away the paint. If the paint is still difficult to remove, coat the surface of the paint with the solvent of your choice, leave for 15 minutes, and then wipe or scrub the paint.

Harsh household chemicals that safely remove acrylic paint from glass include acetone, ammonia solution, and paint thinner. These products all emit toxic fumes, so work in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors, and wear protective gloves. Apply the product to a cloth or scrubber, or directly to the painted surface. Problems spray painting glass

Glassware is probably the most difficult material to spray paint with. Due to the smooth surface, it is more likely to run, drip or peel. The smooth surface of glass doesn’t give the color much to grab and hold on to. Therefore, the paint easily accumulates on itself, causing cracks, drips and runs.

For this reason, many prefer to paint glass with a brush, which leads to many brush strokes on the previously very smooth surface. (I mention this tip in my free checklist to help you spray paint like a pro. You can get it by filling out the form at the bottom of this post).

I don’t know about you, but when I take the time to hand paint something I want it to look good!

That’s why using the right spray paint is so important!

What spray paint sticks to glass?

Spray paint quality can vary greatly from one product line to another and some are easier to use on glass than others. Also, certain nozzles are better at providing an even spray, which is critical for spraying glassware.

Considerations on the best spray paints for glass

There are several considerations to keep in mind when reviewing and deciding on the best spray paints for glassware.

Dripping – Dripping is the bain of my existence in every painting project. Those dreaded drops can ruin a perfect vase in an instant. As I mentioned above, glass is more prone to drips because it’s so smooth and slick. However, using the right spray paint can ensure you get the perfect finish every time. What affects smoothness is the quality of the paint and the type of nozzle.

Bumps – Even if you don’t have drips, sometimes the type of nozzle can cause paint to come out unevenly. Or it can result in spray paint particles that are too large and not appear smooth on the surface of your glass.

Shine – Think about the shine you are aiming for. For example, if you’re painting faux frosted glass you want a high gloss gloss, and if you want the look of chalk paint you want a very matte gloss.

Drying Time – You want a short drying time so that dust doesn’t land on your newly painted surface as often.

Price – The spray paints I recommend in this post are all $5-7. There are cheaper aerosol cans available, but they don’t give the desired results on glass.

What is the best spray paint for glass?

Several different spray paints work great on glass, depending on the look you want. But the same line that’s great for metallic paints isn’t great for tints, so I’ve listed the best spray paints for glass based on the look you want!

Best Spray Paint for Glass: Waterproof stained glass paint

Sometimes you want to spray mason jars or glassware with a translucent tint instead of a solid or opaque frosted color. The perfect spray paint for this is Krylon’s Stained Glass Spray Paint (see current price here).

This product is fabulous and I was able to achieve a beautiful blue hue on mason jars that now look like vintage antiques! It’s very light, so it’ll probably need multiple coats if you want a deep tint. Luckily, this is the most important attribute of spray painting glass – light, even coats!

I love these old blue mason jars that are now a staple in my white stall that used to be my grandma’s.

Best Spray Paint for Glass and Ceramics: Frosted glass spray paint

If you love the look of frosted glass, you can achieve the same look by spray painting glassware and ceramics with a high gloss white spray paint.

The best white spray paint for glass

There are several white gloss spray paints on the market, but white glass spray paint needs to be sprayed evenly with a short drying time. White spray paint will show blemishes and imperfections much more than darker colors. For that reason, this is my go-to faux frosted glass: Rustoleum Universal Gloss in White

Not only does this brand spray a light, even coat, but the nozzle is the best type for even coverage to avoid drips and running – especially since glossy paints are most prone.

REMEMBER: Simply spray light coats of this spray paint about 15 minutes apart. You will be tempted to cover the first or second layer completely, but go very lightly to avoid drips!

I spray painted these birds to make them look like white ceramic or porcelain. It’s hard to believe they were bright orange and green before I painted them!

Best Spray Paint for Glassware: Chalk-Painted Look

If you love the look of chalk painted and aged mason jars, there’s a clear option: Rustoleum Chalked Spray Paint. I love this spray paint because it has a really nice matte chalk finish that sticks to the glass really well. Plus, it’s easy to sand without peeling off to create a distressed look.

To get the distressed look, spray paint your glass or glassware in several light coats. After it has dried for at least 24 hours, take a high grit sandpaper and sand down the areas you want to appear worn. I show you the whole process in the video here: How to Paint Mason Jars

Best Spray Paint for Glass: Frosted glass spray paint

If you want to make a clear glass vase or jar opaque, you can easily do that with: Rustoleum Frosted Glass Spray Paint.

This color has given me a flawless finish time and time again. This product gives you many great opportunities for DIY projects, including making lanterns out of jars or even making a bathroom window opaque.

Simply spray the glassware in very thin coats and mask off any areas you do not wish to paint. Allow to dry for 24 hours before using. Rustoleum’s Frosted Glass Spray is the best on the market, giving you an even finish every time.

Best Spray Paint for Glass: Sea Glass Finish

There are spray paints on the market specifically designed for a sea glass finish – one product in particular. But after three doses of the same product, I couldn’t get an even finish. The paint spattered and pooled all over my vases no matter how hard I shook the can!

But I found an alternative way to create a sea glass effect that is flawless every time. You will need a few cans of spray paint for this. First, spray on Krylon’s Stained Glass (NOT Krylon’s Sea Glass) in a few thin coats or to desired depth of color.

Then, after you’ve sprayed on your last coat of Krylon’s Stained Glass for about 20 minutes, spray on a coat or two of Rustoleum’s Frosted Glass. The difference between stained glass optics and sea glass optics is that sea glass is more opaque. So we just add a frosted finish to stained glass to create a sea glass effect.

Yes, I know you’ll need to buy another can of spray paint, but I assure you, it gives you a beautiful, even seaglass finish on glass every time! You can see the process in detail in the video above.

Below is how I spray painted a vase with Krylon’s Summer Green Stained Glass Spray Paint and Rustoleum’s Frosted Glass. I also made a candle holder out of a mason jar by spraying it with Krylon’s Soft Blue Stained Glass Spray Paint and then Rustoleum’s Frosted Glass Spray Paint.

How to spray glass

“How do you paint glass permanently?”

Using the right spray paint is key, but you also want to use the right spray painting method to ensure a smooth, even finish on your glassware.

To spray any type of glass, ceramic, or porcelain, wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or glue on the surface of the glass that would prevent the paint from adhering.

After the alcohol has dried, shake the spray can for about a minute. You can start by spraying the glass in light layers, 15 minutes apart.

How to spray glass without drips

IMPORTANT TIP: For the first layer you will be tempted to get full coverage, but don’t! This is a recipe for drops.

Just put on a very light coat and know that it will be translucent and blotchy. Spray light coats 15-20 minutes apart until you get full coverage. How to fix spray paint on glass

If you’re wondering how to fix paint splatter on glass, you’ve come to the right place! As soon as you start seeing a drip or run shape, stop spraying that layer.

While the paint is wet, take a small art brush and simply brush out the drip with one quick stroke. It may leave some brush marks on the surface, but you’ll cover them with next coats of spray paint.

Jen Wilkin, in her book In His Image, writes about the time she saw a beautiful green vase at a thrift store. Because she loved the details of the vase and green is her favorite color, she bought it for $10. How do you fix spray paint on glass?

You can absolutely spray paint a glass chandelier, although it can be a challenge depending on how detailed the glass is. I would recommend taking the glass crystals off and hanging them by a long string or piece of twine between a couple of ladders over a lawn.

Can you spray paint for glass windows?

You can spray glass windows to give them an opaque or frosted effect. If you choose this route, be sure to tape and cover the entire area to prevent spray paint particles from sticking to nearby surfaces. Another simpler option is window film, which you can find here: Privacy Window Film

You can use any of the above spray paints to paint a glass table top, but I would recommend spraying the side that will be in contact with the table. This way you don’t risk scratching a spray painted surface. To do this, spray one side of the glass and leave to dry for 48 hours.

Then use these glass spacers (check current price here) to easily separate the glass from the table. I learned from my DIY Made Out of a Door desk that if you don’t use the spacers, the glass creaks against the tabletop every time you lean on it.

When painting acrylic on glass, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First, without proper priming and using the right paint and medium, acrylic paints are not compatible with glass surfaces and have a tendency to slide off and/or cling loosely to the surface, making them difficult or impossible to clean.

Second, from the point of view of painting, glass is a non-porous surface that is difficult to seal, and acrylic paints do not adhere well to it, resulting in the acrylic paint film peeling off after a short period of time. Why? The answer is simple – glass is non-porous so the paint doesn’t penetrate the surface and just sits on it. Without a seal, you can simply scrape the paint off the glass.

Before you start using acrylic paint on glass, you should make sure your surface is finished. Put on gloves to make sure your skin doesn’t leave traces of oil.

Clean the surface with soapy water, allow to dry, then wipe with rubbing alcohol or white vinegar and allow to air dry again.

Mask off areas you want to protect from paint.

Coat the glass or area where you are going to paint with a layer of gesso. It prepares the surface for the paint to adhere to the glass. The gesso layer also makes the color more opaque.

Paint your acrylics onto the surface using even strokes, trying to avoid brush strokes.

How to kiln bake acrylic paint on glass

Almost all acrylic paints are bakeable and I created the Bakeable Acrylic Paint Guide for painting and baking ceramic and glass.

Baked painted glass is microwave and dishwasher safe.

After you’ve finished painting the glass, place your piece in the cold oven.

Set it to 350 degrees F and let it bake for 30 minutes.

Turn off the oven and let the piece cool for 45 minutes.

A piece will be fully cured in 24-72 hours.

Step 5 – Cleaning

Clean brushes and all tools with soapy water immediately after using acrylic paints. Wet them, then squeeze out excess liquid between two fingers before storing until you’re ready to work with them again.

Can acrylic paint be removed from glass?

To remove acrylic paint from your work, try turpentine mixed with mineral spirits and cotton swabs. Rubbing alcohol can also be used as a cleaning solution for acrylic paint.

Instructions for painting on Plexiglas

Plexiglas, also known as acrylic glass, is a brand that produces transparent (and colored) plastic material that is used in place of glass or plastic. It is actually considered stronger and less expensive than glass. But we’re only interested in painting on Plexiglas, right, we don’t go into detail about how it’s made and used.

Similar to plastic and glass, our main concern when painting plexiglass is to make sure the paint sticks – we need to clean, degrease and dry the plastic sheet. Plexiglas itself says that the best paints for painting on Plexiglas are acrylic and oil paints. As with wood or other surfaces, you can sand the plexiglass lightly with 220 grit sandpaper if you wish, but degreasing should do the trick.

High-quality acrylic paints do not require a primer.

Ideas for painting stained glass windows

We can do the painting for Halloween or Christmas or just make it a fun day out for kids when they actually paint on windows and well maybe walls… Some just paint animals, trees and leaves, deer and snowflakes, flowers and birds but if you feel confident you can even paint a landscape or create a painting with glow in the dark color! However, please test the paint (how it sticks and most importantly cleans) on the windows that likely overlook the backyard.

Which glass is best for painting?

Basically, the glass used for kitchenware and windows is good for acrylic painting because it is thin and flexible. In general, the glass itself is not the best surface for acrylic painting, but it is absolutely doable. There are 6 different types of glass:

floating glass.

Reinforced glass.

Painted glass.

Patterned glass.

laminated glass.

Basically, you can paint on any glass, but remember that you need to know the coefficient of expansion (COE) if you want to bake your piece of glass. This coefficient shows how flexible this glass is.

Regular glassware is good for acrylic paint and baking – it’s flexible and fairly thin.

I’m guessing you won’t be using laminated or solar control glass for your home projects – they are thicker and used industrially.

What acrylic paint do you use on glass?

Enamel acrylic and acrylic paint clearly marked on the label as suitable for glass. You can also mix any acrylic paint with a special acrylic glass medium and apply it to the glass. I recommend using folk art paint for glass.

Can acrylic paint be washed off the glass?

Acrylic paint is water based and removing acrylic paint from glass is not too difficult.

In addition, acrylic paint that is oven hardened on glass is waterproof.

Is acrylic paint for glass dishwasher safe?

Acrylic paint on glass is safe to put in the dishwasher but do not soak or scrub as you may scrape the paint.

Step 1

Before you can successfully paint glass, take the time to clean it thoroughly. Use hot soapy water in combination with a clean cotton cloth. Wait for the glass to dry completely before proceeding. Also remember that it is advisable to wear latex gloves while working to avoid smearing the glass with your fingers.

What Are Affordable Ways To Blackout A Window?

Blackout a window doesn’t have to be a budget-breaking task. There are numerous DIY blackout window solutions you can use, including:

Take the aluminum foil from the drawer in your kitchen and see how much you need to cover the window from end to end. It is best to measure before unrolling the film so you don’t waste any.

Foil does not let light through when used correctly; Instead it is reflected back. Here’s how you can make an effective window blackout solution out of aluminum:

Measure the window first. When measuring, remember that it’s better to have more aluminum foil than less. Once you have your measurements, cut out a square of aluminum foil the size of the window, then attach it to the window (or the wall surrounding the window). It’s good to use masking tape here as it will hold well and won’t rip the paint off if you need to remove it later.

If you want to ensure complete light blockage, use two layers of aluminum foil.

Note: It is best not to use tinfoil window coverings on windows that face busy intersections as the reflective quality can distract motorists and lead to traffic accidents.

Black fabric

Black fabric offers the blackout quality but is non-reflective so you don’t take the risks that come with using aluminum foil. The trick is to use a thick fabric, as the thin material is usually so fine that it lets tiny rays of light through.

Another good thing about fabric is that it’s cheap. Here’s how to make a fabric window covering yourself:

Measure to see how much fabric is needed. Cut out how much fabric you need. Tape it to the window with heavy duty tape.

Note: If you want more coverage, use two layers of fabric; You can even sew these together to create a more effective solution that’s easy to set up and take down.

Cardboard

Cardboard is not only an effective solution for darkening a window – it’s also inexpensive; You can even get it for free at your local grocery store.

To install the cardboard solution, first measure how much you need. Then cut out the cardboard, leaving some to keep the light out. You should use heavy duty tape to keep the box in place long term.

Note: It’s best to use a large piece of cardboard rather than combining two or three pieces, as this will avoid tears that light can shine through.

How do you black out a large commercial glass window?

Have you ever seen large blackout windows inside or outside of a commercial building? What you saw was most likely a window with a blackout film. This is a 0% film, which means these films work both ways: you can’t see out and you can’t see in.

Costs more to light up a home or business

Without access to natural light, it costs more to artificially light the home or office. So putting in blackout sheets isn’t a good move if you don’t like high electric bills.

Damage to the window pane

The blackout film can damage the window. Specifically, it can cause one side of the window to absorb more heat while the other side stays cool. This contrast can lead to cracking or chipping.

Eliminates the benefits of being able to see outside

Because you can’t see out a blacked-out window, you can’t reap the mental health benefits that come with looking green and at the world outside your home. Qualities to Look for When Buying Black Out Shades
