That’s right – twenty years of documentation and collection of vintage spray paint artifacts.
Deciding what to put between the front and back was a daunting challenge—no, more of a nightmare actually. To make sure we got it right, we’ve added our best reserved content; critical historical context; a balanced distribution of other international collectors; and rarities that we hope will spark positive discussion and a deeper awareness of spray paint history. So, yes – all of that – without racing to the finish line, compromising quality or our mission.
Let’s also be very clear about something else. Our motivation is not profit-oriented and never will be. Our core beliefs within the CMC mission are based on sharing and giving back the culture we love and our desire to answer questions about an industry that hasn’t kept the best records. All income that we make from the sale of our t-shirts and now books is reinvested in our projects.
We strive daily to share images through social media, have contributed to numerous public exhibitions, and are also working to build the best online resource through our revamped website. But electronic media is not permanent. Years ago we decided that a book had to be produced that could serve as a reference book to preserve this fading part of our culture in a way that would be a tangible object to be studied in detail in print for years to come.
Unlike any other spray paint collector website or social media site, we are the only ones passionate enough to document our relentless daily hunt for vintage spray paint. We put more miles on the road than anyone else, but our focus isn’t on one brand or one region. What we do transcends the spectrum of cans used by writers, as we admire the graphics, the story, and the stories in equal measure.
So here it is, TWO DECADES OF DIGING, a labor of love, five years of compiling our greatest finds and facts.
