Fake Bc Drivers License? All Answers

Back in April, we wrote an article urging authorities to investigate fake driver’s licenses more seriously. As you can see, these fake licenses are so easy to get. You can have them made for around P500 per card, complete with real looking elements of the real thing. Many drivers of public utility vehicles use them to thwart corrupt traffic officials, but there are also private motorists who keep them in their wallets just in case.

In that article, we said that the main reason fake driver’s licenses became prevalent was that the penalty for doing so was “ridiculously small”: a 3,000 pesos fine plus a year’s driving ban, to be exact.

Well, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic issued a statement today stating that a motorist caught with a fake driving license can actually be jailed for up to six months on top of the penalty mentioned above.

From the statement:

This comes after the I-ACT team posted a Nissan Urvan classified as “for rent” and driven by a certain Alexander Salvador during an operation in Quezon City.

With the help of a Deputy Enforcer from the Land Transportation Office, I-ACT confirmed that the LTO database did not contain a record of the driver’s license presented by Salvador. Also, LTO-National Capital Region Director Atty. Clarence Guinto issued a certificate stating that Salvador’s driver’s license was fake.

LTO-NCR filed a complaint against the driver for violating Section 31 of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

“The LTO is now more determined in filing cases against motorists who use forged driver’s licenses, intentionally or not,” Atty said. Guinto is quoted in the press release.

Apparently, using or attempting to use a fake driver’s license is punishable by imprisonment (up to but not more than six months), depending on the “court’s discretion”.

So there. If you’re currently carrying a fake driver’s license or are tempted to get one, you should at least be aware of the full consequences of what you’re doing. Don’t mess with the law, we say.

ICBC combats identity fraud with new enhanced security features being added to most cards issued by ICBC.

Customers applying for a new driver’s license or renewing an old one will receive a card with the new features, including microtext on the front of the card, an image of a bear, whale or bird on the back of the card, and the cardholder’s signature.

“Maintaining the integrity of licenses is paramount to ensuring the security of personal identification and information,” ICBC said, adding that the improvements are part of their standard procedures to protect customers.

This applies to driver’s licenses, BC Services Cards and BC Identity Cards.

Driver’s licenses are used by many British Columbians as their primary ID, according to the ICBC.

In 2018, B.C. 3,535,000 driver’s licenses active.

But even with the updated Fake IDs, there are many easy ways to tell the fake from the real thing. Here are 25 easy ways to tell if an ID is fake.

The essential task of every notary is to verify the identity of his signers. Signers present their driver’s license or ID card every day and attract a lot of attention. With so many sophisticated fake and altered IDs on the market, how can you be sure that someone’s ID is valid? Verifying the security features of the ID card is crucial.

Document fraud expert Joseph Vasil recommends checking these five common security features of an ID card:

1. HOLOGRAM

Most states issue driver’s licenses that contain a hologram. To view a hologram, simply hold the badge up to a light source and tilt it back and forth. On government-issued ID cards, the holograms typically show state seals, state flags, or historical references to that jurisdiction. Generic holograms such as lock-and-key symbols or words like “authentic” or “secure” are rarely used on government-issued ID cards.

2. UV IMAGE

Commonly referred to as a black light image, a UV image appears when UV light shines on an ID card. The image can be anything from a photo of the cardholder to the name of the issuing state. UV images can appear on the front or back of a card.

3. MICRO PRINTING

This is a very small print (text) that you will need a magnifying glass to see. It is sometimes camouflaged in the background pattern of an ID. (This is the best and quickest way to spot fakes.)

4. LASER PERFORATION

Small holes are made in the ID card during production. When the card is viewed against a direct light source, a distinct shape or image appears. These images are typically representative of the issuing jurisdiction.

5. TACTILE PROPERTY

Raised (tactile) printing on a badge can represent a badge number, date of birth, or date of issue and expiry. You can detect a tactile feature by running your fingers over the map’s surface.

Not every state incorporates all of these security features into its driving and ID credentials. As mentioned above, the images encoded in an ID document are usually unique to the state that issues it. It’s a good idea to keep up to date with the security features included in ID cards issued by your state. For other states, it is important to have a reliable ID reference guide to compare a live ID with credentials issued in that state.

Here are some of the common ways to identify fraudulent IDs. There are three basic types of ID fraud: borrowed, fake, and altered. Modern and improved security features have changed the way ID fraud occurs. Borrowed IDs are by far the most common method of identity fraud, followed by fake IDs and less commonly altered IDs. Here are some ways you can spot problems. Borrowed IDs – the most common form of ID fraud

Borrowed IDs are now the most common form of ID fraud. It is estimated that 95% of all ID scams are due to a borrowed ID. Minors get borrowed IDs from multiple sources: they use an older sibling’s ID, an older friend’s ID, or they get a stranger’s ID through their friends and friend networks.

Here are some suggestions for locating the borrowed ID: Compare the photo on the ID with the person in front of you and question any discrepancies (the cardholder anticipates a clerk will be too busy to examine the ID closely) .

Review and compare other physical descriptors such as height and weight.

Watch out for signs of duplicate cards, such as B. the stamp “DUPL”.

Watch out for expired cards.

Ask questions! Ask the cardholder to verify the personal information on the card. Get a signature and compare it to the one on the card. Ask the cardholder what their middle initial stands for. Intentionally mispronounce their name or get their middle first letter wrong to see if the cardholder is instinctively providing the correct information.

Look for signs of fraud. Is the cardholder avoiding eye contact, showing unusual hesitation in responding, acting nervous, trying to intimidate, or gazing up (as if trying to remember or make something up)?

Fake IDs

In an effort to keep up with modern security improvements of real IDs, fake ID manufacturers use advanced technology to create very “real” looking fakes. The Internet has become a major source for acquiring these IDs. The best way to spot counterfeiting is to visually and physically examine the ID in question and become familiar with what a genuine ID looks like in your community.

Physical inspection of ID card. Check the strength of the card. A fake ID is often a different weight and/or thickness than a real ID. Gently squeeze the ID to see if the card feels right.

Check the edges of the map. Almost all ID cards have rounded edges around the entire ID card. If the edges feel square, the card may have an incorrect front.

Check and touch the front and back of the ID card. Feel for bumps, ridges and irregularities. Check the IDs corners. The corners of a real ID card cannot be split or pulled back. If you can peel or split the corners of the ID with your nail, it’s probably a fake ID.

Visual inspection of the ID card.

Conduct a general visual inspection of overall appearance, fonts and color patterns, and look for known security features that should be present on valid ID cards.

Don’t forget to check the back of the ID card. Fake ID makers take great care to replicate the front of the ID but put less effort into the back.

Know what Idaho’s licenses look like.

Become familiar with the look and feel of Idaho adult and minor ID cards, including all of the security features found on real ID cards. See the Idaho License Designs for more information. Changed IDs

Modern IDs are much more difficult to change than in the past. For example, with the advancement of ID printing processes and the use of special plastic material, it is extremely difficult to alter an ID photo, which is seldom the case with newer forms of ID. The current trend in ID change is to change birth date, under 18 to or under 21 to dates. The most common technique for changing IDs is to use clear nail polish or super glue and write or print new data onto the nail polish or glue. So, to spot changed IDs, look out for the following: Look for small raised spots or small shiny spots above the date of birth or “below to” dates.

There are many ways your ID card printer can help ensure the authenticity of plastic or technology cards and reduce the likelihood of successful fraudulent reproduction of your plastic cards. While no single technology is 100% secure, you can now use a variety of security measures together to improve their effectiveness: holography, etching, microtext, photographic perforation, UV ink, ghosting, watermarking, etc.

This page briefly explains some of the technologies currently available to ensure ID cards and documents are valid.

overlamination

Clear overlaminate

Fargo, Eltron, Magicard, Datacard and Nisca manufacture printer/laminators capable of overlaminating transparent cards. Although the clear lamination is really designed to improve card durability – both physical and UV protection – it slightly increases card security by providing a barrier to card tampering. As you will read below, there are a number of derivatives that include holography for added security. The lamination in this industry is typically a clear polyester film and is generally applied as a patch (near edge) over the top of the plastic card using heat and pressure. Several new technologies are becoming available that extend the laminate material to the edge of the card. The laminating material is a secure, tamper evident overlaminate available in thicknesses ranging generally from 0.6 mil to 1.0 mil thick. Clear overlaminates offer far superior card durability than too.

Holographic overlaminate

All printer manufacturers that offer an overlaminate feature also offer holographic versions of their overlaminate material. These vary slightly but generally use a holographic image embedded in the surface of the overlaminate to reduce the likelihood of a successful card reproduction. On higher standard and custom holographic overlaminates one may have the option to implement micro text printing within the holographic image to improve fraud protection. Thermal transfer laminate

Fargo, Eltron, and Magicard offer a slightly less robust method of card protection called thermal transfer overlaminate – or thin film. This is available in both clear and holographic finishes. Thin film is a medium security, medium durability overlaminate that is approximately 0.25 mil thick. This laminating material is ideal for applications that require tamper evident cards with a moderate durability.

SmartShield – by Fargo Electronics

With SmartShield you can automatically print a custom transparent security image – a logo, icon or text – directly onto your cards. Once printed, this image will only appear when the card is viewed from an angle under ultraviolet (black) light or under normal lighting. This image emphasizes the uniqueness of each card you make and can help you spot fake cards.

With SmartShield, you can use existing logos or create new unique images with any standard graphics program. Then just save it to your proprietary SmartGuard access card. Once saved, the image will be automatically printed on each card you create. SmartShield images can be changed and stored on your access card any number of times, but only by people who know your password. SmartShield is available for several Fargo card printer models including the DTC515, DTC525 and ProLX.

Holokote – By Ultra Magicard

Similar to Fargo’s SmartShield solution, Magicard uses the transparent overlay panel on a YMCKO or YMCKOK tape to create a type of security watermark on printed plastic cards. This feature is called holokote. Printers equipped with Holokote’s unique key-driven anti-counterfeit card protection feature have an embedded UltraSecure logo or can use other optional customer logos stored on a custom Holokote key.

The technology used by Magicard creates a type of overlay frost that is visible under normal lighting conditions but cannot be enhanced by UV lighting. The Holokote solution increases the uniqueness of each card you make and can help you spot fake cards. This feature is available on several Magicard card printer models including the Rio, Rio Grande, Tango and Alto.

UV coloring

UV inking is a method of adding something unique to a plastic card. UV inks have been widely used and accepted by the federal government, state driver license programs and many in the financial community. If you look at your Visa or American Express cards under a UV lamp, you will likely see some type of security writing in UV ink on the card. Several card printer manufacturers can order special cards with unique UV coloring.

microtext

As the name suggests, this security process involves printing very small text in a specific location on a card’s surface. It is difficult to print real microtext with thermal printers due to physical limitations in the resolution of thermal print images. Microtext is therefore generally pre-printed prior to dye-sublimation printing using some type of offset press. Microtext can also be found on high quality holographic security laminates. Because of the difficulty of reproducing microtext in its original form, the United States government considers microtext printing a valuable security precaution: examples of microtext printing appear on both US passports and newer, higher-denomination US currency.

ghosting

Ghosting is a fundamental level of card security. A ghost image is essentially a smaller version of the original photo image on an ID card and is generally printed semi-transparent. These ghosting are made possible through the use of software that allows the ghosting to be added to the plastic card during the printing process. The benefit of this type of card security is that it generally doesn’t add to the cost of your printed card.

Etching or photographic perforation

Two other techniques used to create duplicate or “ghost” images on ID cards are etching and perforating. Scratching lines (“etching”) into the surface of a card can produce reproductions of images, logos, and designs typically produced during the thermal transfer printing process. Punching tiny holes in the card’s surface (“perforating”) does the same thing. Both techniques are performed on a very fine scale and require purpose-built, precision-engineered equipment to achieve their effects.

Attempting to verify driver’s license and a license plate number at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) can present a great deal of difficulty for ordinary people who don’t have a contact person in the home.

Many car dealers have their own liaison officer who handles bulk transactions within the LTO office.

For ordinary people looking to buy a used car or to validate the identity of the said person who presented them with a driver’s license, there is an easier way to verify a driver’s license and license plate number without living where you are. This can be done via SMS or text messages with your phone.

To verify a driver’s license, simply enter LTO LICENSE [driver’s license number] and send it to 2600. Enter the driver’s license number without any spaces or the hyphen (-). If your license number is N06-66-666666, enter it like N0666666666.

To verify a license plate simply enter LTO VEHICLE [license plate] and send to 2600. Enter the license plate number with no spaces. If your license plate number is 6666 XX, enter it like 6666XX. This works for both motor vehicles and automobiles with the new format (e.g. XX 66666, XXX 6666, etc.)

It works with any network like Sun Cellular, Globe Telecom, Smart Communication, Talk n Text, Touch Mobile and other major networks.

Both checks are case-insensitive for keywords. You can type them in all lower case like in the first picture or in all upper case.

The driver’s license check only gives you the information about the validity of the driver’s license and whether the driver’s license has an unresolved alarm/concern.

For the license plate check you will receive the following information: make, model, year of manufacture, colour, last registration and whether there is an unexplained alarm / concern on the vehicle.

Verification costs Php2.50 for each successful verification.

In rare cases, you sometimes get the message “No record found”. SMS reply. The file or record you are looking for may not have been uploaded to the system immediately.

In this case, this is the time that you need to verify yourself at your nearest LTO office or branch.

Do I need to apply for a BCID if I am in Canada temporarily?

NO, it is not mandatory to get a BCID if you have another photo ID from your country, but it is useful if you don’t want to carry your passport or ID card around with you while studying or working in Canada.

You can still use your country’s ID card and it will be accepted in many places as it is a government ID. However, if you want to make sure you don’t lose it, you can easily get a BCID card instead. Remember that in Canada you will be asked to show ID when, for example, going out for a beer with friends, buying a bottle of wine in a restaurant, etc. So you MUST have valid ID with you.

Where can I get my BCID?

Go to any ICBC driver’s license office to apply for your BCID. Although it is the driver’s license office, they are the ones who issue the BCID cards. You do not need to have a previous driver’s license in your country to get your BCID.

What documents do I need to get my BCID if I am a student or working holiday permit holder?

Bring the following documents with you:

Original study or work permit (or both, if available)

Original passport

Original Second ID from your home country, e.g. B. ID card or driving license of your country. This second ID must contain your name, signature and/or photo

Ah! and also remember that they take your picture there and are part of the application process so be prepared for that! 😉

I’m a working holiday or student in BC for less than six months, can I get my BCID card?

In order for you to get your BCID card, you must have at least six months in your work or study permit. So if your permits are less than this duration when you apply for your BCID card, unfortunately you won’t be able to get one.

How much does a BCID cost?

It costs $35 and you pay instantly at ICBC offices.

Can I get my card immediately?

No, you must provide an address for the BCID card to be mailed to, so go to the office to request the card only.

I just arrived in Canada and don’t have a fixed address yet, where do I send my BCID?

If you are one of our customers and do not have a fixed address, you can send your BCID card to our office. Email us when you do this and we’ll let you know when you can pick it up!

IMPORTANT: We only accept BCID cards for Stepwest participants, either during your working holiday, internship, or study and work program in Canada. If you are not a Stepwest customer, please do not request that your BCID card be mailed to our office.

ghosting

Ghosting is a fundamental level of card security. A ghost image is essentially a smaller version of the original photo image on an ID card and is generally printed semi-transparent. These ghosting are made possible through the use of software that allows the ghosting to be added to the plastic card during the printing process. The benefit of this type of card security is that it generally doesn’t add to the cost of your printed card.

Etching or photographic perforation

Two other techniques used to create duplicate or “ghost” images on ID cards are etching and perforating. Scratching lines (“etching”) into the surface of a card can produce reproductions of images, logos, and designs typically produced during the thermal transfer printing process. Punching tiny holes in the card’s surface (“perforating”) does the same thing. Both techniques are performed on a very fine scale and require purpose-built, precision-engineered equipment to achieve their effects.
