First announces three-year commitment to Kids Help Phone
Local bullying awareness and prevention organization provides $75,000 gift
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, TORONTO – February 7, 2019
Friends First, an organization founded by local business leader Natalie von Teichman, today announced a three-year, $75,000 commitment to Kids Help Phone in Toronto.
Friends First grew out of a very personal story. Andrew von Teichman, a sommelier, and his business partner, legendary Jackson Triggs winemaker Allan Jackson, were both bullied as children and never forgot the feelings that arose from the experience. After many years and a very successful venture later, they decided to join forces to create a beautiful local wine and artisanal cider aptly named D’Ont Poke The Bear. As well as making delicious wine and cider, Andrew and Allan donate a portion of the proceeds from every bottle or can sold to a group dedicated to preventing bullying – Friends First. Since its launch, the product has been a resounding success, thanks in part to the simple fact that so many customers in Canada can relate to the story and have experienced bullying first hand.
“We couldn’t be happier that Friends First’s inaugural gift goes to the Kids Help Phone and specifically to the Counselor in the Classroom program,” said Natalie. “This is exactly the kind of partner and program we envisioned when we started the project and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Kids Help Phone and their incredible team.”

Odour: Medium aroma. Sharp, wild apple smell. Sour and slightly bitter aroma. earthy. Musty. banana notes.
Initial Flavor: Medium bite from carbonation and acidity. Earthy and woody (that’s slightly rough on the palate). Spicy and sweet apple flavor.
Aftertaste: Becomes sweeter with banana and caramel notes. woody notes remain. Semi-dry finish. Slightly persistent acidity.
On ice: Reduces carbonation. Becomes smoother and crisper. Less bitterness and acidity. Cutie pie.
Additional Notes: D’ont Poke the Bear is distinct from other Ontario ciders in flavor as it has harsher earthy notes alongside sweet, fruity flavors. With unique banana notes, it reminds us of a Hefeweizen, although this drink does not contain wheat. With a grainy mouthfeel, it evokes memories of a dry white wine or an ice cider. Seems rudimentary in taste and feel.
