CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services with CRS-4530: Communications failure contacting Cluster Synchronization Services daemon and CRS-4534

CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services with CRS-4530: Communications failure contacting Cluster Synchronization Services daemon and CRS-4534

Hi,

Sometimes you can get “CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services ” error.

CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

When I check the CRS ( Cluster Ready Services ) , Details of error are as follows.

[[email protected] bin]# crsctl check crs CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services CRS-4530: Communications failure contacting Cluster Synchronization Services daemon CRS-4534: Cannot communicate with Event Manager

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

The cause of this error is generally the permission on the ASM disks on the node where you faced the error.

CRS-4534: Cannot communicate with Event Manager

Check permisson of ASM Disks as follows.

[[email protected] bin]# cd /dev/oracleasm/disks [[email protected] disks]# ls -lrt total 0 brw——- 1 root root 8, 17 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK1 brw——- 1 root root 8, 33 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK2 brw——- 1 root root 8, 49 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK3 brw——- 1 root root 8, 65 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK4

Oracle has no permissions on Disks, so you should grant it as follows.

[[email protected] disks]# chown -R oracle:dba /dev/oracleasm/disks [[email protected] disks]# chmod -R 777 /dev/oracleasm/disks [[email protected] disks]# ls -lrt total 0 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 17 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK1 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 33 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK2 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 49 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK3 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 65 Jan 9 08:17 ASMDISK4

Disk permissions are fixed and check the IPs between all cluster node s(Public, Private and Virtual IP).

Then start Cluster from root user as follows.

[[email protected] bin]# crsctl start cluster CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.cssd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.cssd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.ctssd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.ctssd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ succeeded CRS-2679: Attempting to clean ‘ora.asm’ on ‘msdbrac01’ CRS-2681: Clean of ‘ora.asm’ on ‘msdbrac01’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.asm’ on ‘msdbrac01’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.asm’ on ‘msdbrac01’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘msdbrac01’ succeeded [[email protected] bin]#

Now check CRS again as follows.

[[email protected] bin]# crsctl check crs CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online CRS-4533: Event Manager is online [[email protected] bin]#

Cluster Ready Services is online now, problem has been fixed.

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

Question: I am getting the CRS-4535 error:

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online

How do I fix this CRSerror?

Answer: The CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services is a typical issue that does happen for one of the following two reasons:

1) Networking issue between the RAC nodes (CRS not running)

2) Permission issue at the storage level

Check the crsd log under $GRID_HOME/log/hostname/crsd and check the alert log for any additional details on the CRS-4535 error. Also, check to see if the CRS is running on the node:

ps –ef |grep crsd.bin

Next, check the status of ora.crsd, if offline try starting the CRS with ora.crsd:

crsctl stat res -t -init

crsctl start res ora.crsd -init

CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

In Cluster environment, when you check the status of the CRS (Cluster Ready Service) you may find the error as CRS-4535 Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services as shown below.

[root@rac1 bin]# ./crsctl check crs CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services CRS-4530: Communications failure contacting Cluster Synchronization Services daemon CRS-4534: Cannot communicate with Event Manager

This mainly occurs for two reasons:

1. Check if the nodes are able to ping each other in terms of respective IPs (Public, Private and Virtual IP).

2. Check if the Grid owner has the permission on the ASM disks on the node where you faced the error.

In my case, GRID owner was user Oracle. The connectivity between the nodes using their Public, Private and Virtual IPs were perfect and was able to ping each other using the above said IPs.

So, the issue laid with the permission of the ASM disks for the Grid Owner (username Oracle)

This is what I found with the permissions for the ASM disks. The disks were owned by ROOT and ORACLE had no permissions on it.

[root@rac1 bin]# cd /dev/oracleasm/disks [root@rac1 disks]# ls -lrt total 0 brw——- 1 root root 8, 17 May 6 10:16 DISK1 brw——- 1 root root 8, 33 May 6 10:16 DISK2 brw——- 1 root root 8, 49 May 6 10:16 DISK3 brw——- 1 root root 8, 65 May 6 10:16 DISK4 brw——- 1 root root 8, 81 May 6 10:16 DISK5 [root@rac1 bin]# ps -ef | grep css root 3784 1 0 10:17 ? 00:00:01 /u01/app/grid/11.2.0/bin/cssdmonitor root 3801 1 0 10:17 ? 00:00:01 /u01/app/grid/11.2.0/bin/cssdagent root 4189 4107 0 10:26 pts/1 00:00:00 grep css

Now, change the owner of these disks to ORACLE as shown below and also provide appropriate permission for the ORACLE user to read/write these disks.

[root@rac1 disks]# chown -R oracle:dba /dev/oracleasm/disks [root@rac1 disks]# chmod -R 777 /dev/oracleasm/disks [root@rac1 disks]# ls -lrt total 0 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 17 May 6 10:16 DISK1 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 33 May 6 10:16 DISK2 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 49 May 6 10:16 DISK3 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 65 May 6 10:16 DISK4 brwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 8, 81 May 6 10:16 DISK5

Once you have assigned the permission, start the cluster services as the ROOT user.

Change to your $GRID_HOME/bin directory (in my case, $GRID_HOME was /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid) and start the cluster services using the CRSCTL utility as shown below.

[root@rac1 bin]# ./crsctl start cluster CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.cssd’ on ‘rac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.cssd’ on ‘rac1’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.ctssd’ on ‘rac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.ctssd’ on ‘rac1’ succeeded CRS-2679: Attempting to clean ‘ora.asm’ on ‘rac1’ CRS-2681: Clean of ‘ora.asm’ on ‘rac1’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.asm’ on ‘rac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.asm’ on ‘rac1’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘rac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘rac1’ succeeded

Check the CSS service status:

[root@rac1 bin]# ps -ef | grep css root 3784 1 0 10:17 ? 00:00:01 /u01/app/grid/11.2.0/bin/cssdmonitor root 4372 1 0 10:30 ? 00:00:01 /u01/app/grid/11.2.0/bin/cssdagent oracle 4387 1 1 10:30 ? 00:00:02 /u01/app/grid/11.2.0/bin/ocssd.bin root 5347 4107 0 10:33 pts/1 00:00:00 grep css

Now check if CRS (Cluster Ready Service) is online or not:

[root@rac1 bin]# ./crsctl check crs CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online CRS-4533: Event Manager is online [root@rac1 bin]#

Database RAC 12c > CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services

You may have encountered the following error when you are working with ORACLE RAC, you try to access the CRS service through commands such as:

dbrac1(/u01/grid/product/12.1.0/bin)# ./crsctl stat res -t CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services CRS-4000: Command Status failed, or completed with errors.

As a result of the execution of the previous command, we observe that apparently the remaining primary processes of the RAC are functioning correctly.

Then in the following image we can see the usual processes involved in Oracle RAC as well as the different levels of execution in the operating system from the beginning of the same (level 0) to the levels that control system resources.

How to fix this error?

Initially you will notice that when executing the Cluster Ready Services verification command, it shows that both OHASD, CSSD and processes are online, except for the CRSD process with which it is not possible to communicate.

Based on personal experience, these cases usually occur due to file system filling events where the Grid Infrastructure binaries are located, however, there may be other factors that originate it, such as:

Communication problems between both nodes of the RAC.

Storage permission issues.

It is always advisable to verify the crsd log located on the path: $ GRID_HOME / log / hostname / crsd to obtain additional useful information that pays for the identification of the root cause as well as the log of alerts for some additional clue.

You can perform the following steps to try to solve the incident and be able to control this process, so it is not necessary to restart the server as a method of stabilizing the service stack.

1) Check with the check crs command, if only the crsd service has problems, if so, you will get an output similar to the following:

dbrac1(/u01/grid/product/12.1.0/bin)# ./crsctl check crs CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online CRS-4535 : Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services CRS-4529 : Cluster Synchronization Services is online CRS-4533: Event Manager is online

2) Verify if the CRS process is running:

ps -fea |grep crsd.bin

3) Then, if this process is not running, you will try to start the CRS through crsd.

dbrac1(/u01/grid/product/12.1.0/bin)# ./crsctl start res ora.crsd -init CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.crf’ on ‘dbrac1’ CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.storage’ on ‘dbrac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.crf’ on ‘dbrac1’ succeeded CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.storage’ on ‘dbrac1’ succeeded CRS-2672: Attempting to start ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘dbrac1’ CRS-2676: Start of ‘ora.crsd’ on ‘dbrac1’ succeeded

4) Verify if the process started correctly and consult other administrator resources by the RAC:

dbrac1(/u01/grid/product/12.1.0/bin)# ./crsctl stat res -t ——————————————————————————– Name Target State Server State details ——————————————————————————– Local Resources ——————————————————————————– ora.DATA.dg ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE ora.FRA.dg ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE ora.LISTENER.lsnr ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE ora.OCR_VOTE.dg ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE ora.asm ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE ora.net1.network ONLINE ONLINE dbrac1 STABLE ONLINE ONLINE dbrac2 STABLE . . .

RAC CRS will not start tips

RAC CRS will not start tips Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonApril 11, 2015 Question: I am trying to recover a crashed RAC instance and I get a ORA-xxx failure when I try to re-start the instance. error 2970 detected in background process I checked the LMON for trace errors and found none. How do I troubleshoot a failed CRS start? I refer to MOSC note 407086.1 ” Using Cloning in CRS/RAC Windows Environments to add a node”. Answer: First see MOSC note 735804.1 and note 1050908.1 “How to troubleshoot RAC CRS startup issues”. The very first thing to try is to re-boot the whole server and see if the CRS starts automatically. The basic steps to start the CRS include these startup actions:. 1 – Enable the crs, css, and evm daemons in /etc/inittab

2 – Execute /etc/init.d/init.crs enable

3 – Execute /etc/init.d/init.crs start

4 – Execute $ORA_CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl start crs These lines in /etc/inittab are necessary to start CRS correctly.”

h1:3:respawn:/sbin/init.d/init.evmd run >/dev/null 2>&1 /dev/null 2>&1 /dev/null 2>&1 Contains trace files for the CRS resources.

$ORA_CRS_HOME/evm/log –> Log for the Event Volume Manager (EVM)

$ORA_CRS_HOME/css/log –> Cluster Synchronization (CSS) logs The first step in diagnosing a failed CRS start on a RAC node is to run the CRS check command: root> crsctl check crs Failure 1 contacting CSS daemon

Cannot communicate with CRS

Cannot communicate with EVM Some possible causes for a CRS not starting on a RAC node are discussed in the book Oracle Grid and RAC by Stave Karam. Try starting the CRS with the resources command option: root> crsctl start resources

Starting resources.

Successfully started CRS resources

root> crsctl check crs

CSS appears healthy

CRS appears healthy

EVM appears healthy

Other diagnostic commands for a CRS startup failure include: root> crsctl stat res -t

root> ocrcheck

root> ocrcheck -config

root> crsctl query css votedisk
