Lets understand what all processes are running post Crsctl stop Cluster or Crsctl stop Cluster -All

If you look at the stop command, you will see Event Manager, CSS , ASM and CRS went down. OHASD, MDNSD,GPNPD and GIPCD services are still online along with that you will see acfs and afd resources are also online.

Whenever you fire crsctl stop cluster -all, it will stop the clusterware stack on all the nodes of the cluster. And you will have only following services running on it – > OHASD, MDNSD,GPNPD,GIPCD acfs and afd.

How to Stop Processes in an Existing Oracle Real Application Clusters Database

This appendix describes how to stop all processes in an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) database, in preparation for adding additional products to an existing database, or in preparation for patch updates. This appendix contains the following topics:

Before you make any changes to the Oracle software, Oracle recommends that you create a backup of the Oracle Database installation.

If you are using Oracle Clusterware or Cluster Ready Services, then you must shut down all Oracle Database instances on all of the cluster nodes before modifying the Oracle software. If you are performing a patch update, then review the instructions in the Patch Set Notes for detailed instructions.

Shut down any existing Oracle Database instances on each node, with normal or immediate priority. You can use Oracle Enterprise Manager or SRVCTL to shut down the Oracle RAC databases and their instances.

E.3 Stopping All Oracle Processes

Stop all listener and other processes that are running in the Oracle home directories where you want to modify the database software.

Note: Before you can shut down Oracle ASM instances, Oracle Clusterware, or Oracle Restart, you must first shut down all database instances that use them. Before you can shut down Oracle ASM instances, Oracle Clusterware, or Oracle Restart, you must first shut down all database instances that use them.

This section contains the following topics:

E.3.1 Stopping Oracle Database Processes Before Adding Products or Upgrading This section provides an overview of what needs to be done before adding additional products to Oracle Database 11g release 2 (11.2). If you are performing a patch upgrade, then refer to the Database Patch Set Notes for the patch for additional instructions. Note: You must perform these steps in the order listed. You must perform these steps in the order listed. Shut down any processes in the Oracle home on each node that can access a database. Note: Before you shut down any processes that are monitored by Enterprise Manager Grid Control, set a blackout in Grid Control for the processes that you intend to shut down. This is necessary so that the availability records for these processes indicate that the shutdown was planned downtime, rather than an unplanned system outage. Before you shut down any processes that are monitored by Enterprise Manager Grid Control, set a blackout in Grid Control for the processes that you intend to shut down. This is necessary so that the availability records for these processes indicate that the shutdown was planned downtime, rather than an unplanned system outage. For example: $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl stop dbconsole Shut down all Oracle RAC instances on all nodes. To shut down all Oracle RAC instances for a database, enter the following command, where db_name is the name of the database: $ oracle_home/bin/srvctl stop database -d db_name

Speed of crsctl stop crs vs. crsctl stop cluster

Question: I need to quickly bounce my RAC cluster and I wonder which is faster, using “crs stop cluster” or “crs stop crs”. Which of these commands is faster?

Answer: In 11gR2 and beyond, you can start the HA Service Daemon (OHASD) and Clusterware stack in two ways:

Approach 1 – a single step process

$ crsctl start crs

*****************************************************

Approach 2 – Start it in a two-step process. Here we start the HA service (HAS):

$ crsctl start has

then, you start the clusterware stack by with crsctl start cluster:

$ crsctl start cluster -all

*****************************************************

Which is faster? Who knows? Try it on your cluster and see my notes on using the crsctl command.

Also see my notes on crsctl modify resource commands.

crsctl stop cluster -all vs crsctl stop crs in Oracle 19c

What is the difference between crsctl stop cluster -all vs crsctl stop crs. What all process will be running. Today we will share all the details about it.

Crsctl stop cluster -all

Honestly so far I haven’t got chance to use this command though Oracle says this will be used in Maintenance.

Please note you need to execute the command – crsctl stop cluster as ROOT user

If you intend to stop Oracle Clusterware on all or a list of nodes, then use the crsctl stop cluster command, because it prevents certain resources from being relocated to other servers in the cluster before the Oracle Clusterware stack is stopped on a particular server. – oracle.com

Oracle Clusterware Control (CRSCTL) Utility Reference

You can enable debugging for Oracle Clusterware modules and their components, and for resources, by setting environment variables or by running the crsctl set log command.

Use the following syntax to enable debugging for various Oracle Clusterware modules:

crsctl set {log | trace} module_name ” component : debugging_level [,…]”

Run the crsctl set command as the root user, and supply the following information:

module_name : Specify the name of one of the following modules: mdns : Multicast domain name server gpnp : Grid Plug and Play service css : Cluster Synchronization Services crf : Cluster Health Monitor crs : Cluster Ready Services ctss : Cluster Time Synchronization Service evm : Event Manager gipc : Grid Interprocess Communication

component : Specify the name of a component for one of the modules. See Table E-91 for a list of all of the components.

debugging_level : Specify a number from 1 to 5 to indicate the level of detail you want the debug command to return, where 1 is the least amount of debugging output and 5 provides the most detailed debugging output. The default debugging level is 2.

The following examples show how to enable debugging for the various modules:

To enable debugging for Oracle Clusterware: # crsctl set log crs “CRSRTI:1,CRSCOMM:2”

To enable debugging for OCR: # crsctl set log crs “CRSRTI:1,CRSCOMM:2,OCRSRV:4”

To enable debugging for EVM: # crsctl set log evm “EVMCOMM:1”

To enable debugging for resources # crsctl set log res “resname:1”

To obtain a list of components that can be used for debugging, run the crsctl lsmodules command, with the following syntax:

$ crsctl lsmodules {mdns | gpnp | css | crf | crs | ctss | evm | gipc}

Note: You do not have to be the root user to run the crsctl lsmodulues command.

Table E-91 shows the components for the CRS, CSS, and EVM modules, respectively. Note that some component names are common between the CRS, EVM, and CSS daemons and may be enabled on that specific daemon. For example, COMMNS is the NS layer and because each daemon uses the NS layer, you can enable this specific module component on any of the daemons to get specific debugging information.

For example, use the following command to set debugging levels on specific cluster nodes, include the -nodelist keyword and the names of the nodes, as follows:

crsctl set log crs “CRSRTI:1,CRSCOMM:2” -nodelist node1,node2

Table E-92 describes the Cluster Synchronization Services modules.

Table E-92 Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) Modules and Functions Module Description CSS CSS client component CSSD CSS daemon component

Table E-93 describes the function of each communication (COMM) module.

Table E-93 Communication (COMM) Modules and Functions Module Description COMMCRS Clusterware communication layer COMMNS NS communication layer

Table E-94 describes the functions performed by each CRS module.

Using the crsctl set log crs command, you can debug the OCR components listed in Table E-95. The components listed in Table E-95 can also be used for the Oracle Local Registry (OLR) except for OCRMAS and OCRASM. You can also use them for OCR and OLR clients, except for OCRMAS and OCRSRV. Some OCR and OLR clients are OCRCONFIG, OCRDUMP, and so on.

crsctl start/stop crs and crsctl start/stop cluster 区别

官网解释:

crsctl start/stop crs- Manage start/stop theentireOracleClusterware stack on a node, including the OHASD process, this command is to be usedonly on the local node..

crsctl start/stop cluster- Manage start/stop the Oracle Clusterware stack on local node if you do not specify either -all or -n and nodes remote if option -n or -all be specified ,NOT including the OHASD process. You can’t start/stop clusterware stack without OHASD process running.

Despite crsctl start/stop crs manage entire Oracle Clusterware stack on local node crsctl start/stop crs not allow you to manage remote nodes, unlike crsctl start/stop cluster that allows you to manage all the nodes, but if the process OASH is runing.

To manage Oracle Clusterware Stack on remote nodes, the ohasd (Oracle High Availability Services Daemon) must be running on all managed nodes. (i.e using crsctl start cluster -n , )

Then if you try use crsctl start cluster -n node1,node2 and your local node is node1 and on node1 or node2 OHASD not running this command will fails.

1 crsctl start/stop crs

crsctl start/stop cluster -all 会启动所有OHAS是启动状态的所有节点

crsctl stop crs –每个节点

使用crsctl start/stop crs手动启动/关闭流程

节点1

crsctl start/stop crs 实际上后面会把Oracle crs 管理的资源都会启动

节点2

crsctl start/stop crs

……

Enable CRS to start on reboot

crsctl enable crs

Disable CRS to start on reboot

crsctl disable crs

4 查询资源启动情况

crsctl stat res -init -t

注:

crsctl start/stop crs 与crsctl start/stop has 作用相同

crsctl stop crs – Oracle By Mohammed Ali A. Syed

Hello Every One !

Hope you are all doing well.

Today I am going to discuss about crsctl command.

I Chose crsctl because we interact with cluster using this command.

If we look at various command we find that it has a lot of options.

Usage: crsctl add – add a resource, type or other entity

crsctl check – check the state or operating status of a service, resource, or other entity

crsctl config – display automatic startup configuration

crsctl debug – display or modify debug state

crsctl delete – delete a resource, type or other entity

crsctl disable – disable automatic startup

crsctl discover – discover DHCP server

crsctl enable – enable automatic startup

crsctl eval – evaluate operations on resource or other entity without performing them

crsctl get – get an entity value

crsctl getperm – get entity permissions

crsctl lsmodules – list debug modules

crsctl modify – modify a resource, type or other entity

crsctl query – query service state

crsctl pin – make the leases of specified nodes immutable

crsctl relocate – relocate a resource, server or other entity

crsctl replace – change the location of voting files

crsctl release – release a DHCP lease

crsctl request – request a DHCP lease or an action entry point

crsctl setperm – set entity permissions

crsctl set – set an entity value

crsctl start – start a resource, server or other entity

crsctl status – get status of a resource or other entity

crsctl stop – stop a resource, server or other entity

crsctl unpin – make the leases of previously pinned nodes mutable

crsctl unset – unset an entity value, restoring its default

I have divided them in to the following categories.

crsctl to start/stop/enable/disable crsctl start

crsctl stop

crsctl enable

crsctl disable

crsctl to Display information about a resource crsctl check

crsctl config

crsctl get

crsctl getperm

crsctl lsmodules

crsctl query

crsctl status

crsctl eval

crsctl to modify a resouce crsctl add

crsctl delete

crsctl debug

crsctl modify

crsctl set

crsctl relocate

crsctl replace

crsctl setperm

crsctl unset

crsctl pin

crsctl unpin

crsctl release

crsctl request

crsctl discover

Let us understand one by one

crsctl start

crsctl start provides many options

crsctl start crs

crsctl start crs is not cluster aware. Meaning this command can be used to start clusterware stack on local node only.

How to start crs stack on local node?

#crsctl start crs

How to start crs in exlusive mode?

#crsctl start crs -excl

You will need to start crs in Exclusive mode in the following situations

When the cluster is down and cannot start due to lost voting files. When voting files are corrupted For voting file to be restored successfully, CRS daemon must be running.

How to start crs in exlusive mode and without crs?

#crsctl start crs -excl -nocrs #(introduced from 11.2.0.2)

The above command is funny, start crs with nocrs option J

You will need to start in exclusive mode without crs in the following situations

When ocr is corrupted and it is on ASM.

You cannot restore a manual or automatic OCR backup if the OCR is located on an ASM disk group. This is because the command ‘ocrconfig -restore’ requires ASM to be up & running in order to restore an OCR backup to an ASM disk group. However, for ASM to be available, the CRS stack must have been successfully started. For the restore to succeed, the OCR also must not be in use (r/w), i.e. no CRS daemon must be running while the OCR is being restored.

The -nocrs option ensures that the crsd processes and ocr do not start with the rest of the clusterware stack.

How to start only ohasd without starting crs.

Use -noautostart

#crsctl start crs -noautostart

The following options are used by grid internally during patching/upgrading/downgrading

How to start crs in exlusive mode and with cssonly?

#crsctl start crs -excl -cssonly

-wait option

#crsctl start crs –wait

Use this option to start crs to display all progress and status messages. This option is used after patching grid.

-nowait option

#crsctl start crs -nowait

crs will not wait for OHASD to start crs

crsctl start cluster

It is cluster aware. Meaning this command can start the resource on other nodes as well.

For any cluster aware command to run on local or remote node OHASD daemon must be running on that particular node.

How to start all services in a cluster on all nodes

#crsctl start cluster -all

How to start services only on particular node

#crsctl start cluster -n node2, node3

The following command will start cluster ware stack only on local node. So it is similar to crsctl start crs

#crsctl start cluster

crsctl start resource

Usually this is used when you have your own application specific resources. Oracle warns not to use this for resources starting with ora.* But you can use them if it is required.

How to start a particular resource

#crsctl start resource myAppVIP

#crsctl start resource myApache

#crsctl start resource ora.asm

How to start a particular resource type. The following command will start all resources belonging to scan_listener type

#crsctl start resource -w “TYPE = ora.scan_listener.type”

crsctl start rollingpatch

Transition Oracle Clusterware and Oracle ASM to rolling patch mode

crsctl start rollingupgrade

Transition Oracle Clusterware and Oracle ASM to rolling upgrade mode

crsctl stop

crsctl stop crs

Use this command to stop cluster stack on local node.

How to stop clusterware stack?

#crsctl stop crs

Please note the above command stop database resource in abort mode, which is not recommended for PROD databases. Before running this command try stopping databases using srvctl stop then run crsctl stop crs

This command also relocates some services (vip, scan listeners etc) to available nodes.

How to stop clusterware stack forecefully?

If you have hard time stopping resources then you can use –f option. This command will not check for dependency between resources. Recommended to run when you can not stop clusterware.

#crsctl stop crs -f

crsctl stop cluster

For any cluster aware command to run on local or remote node OHASD daemon must be running on that particular node.

Use this command to stop cluster stack on any node or all nodes.

#crsctl stop cluster –all # this will stop cluster stack on all nodes #crsctl stop cluster –n node2 # this will stop cluster stack only on node2

crsctl stop crs vs crsctl stop cluster

Difference one

crsctl stop crs -> can stop local resources only

crsctl stop cluster -> can stop both local and remote node services

Difference two

Consider a case where you have 4 node rac setup. On node 1 and node 2 you have maintenance so you need to restart the servers. When you run crsctl stop crs on node1 then its’s vip and db services will shift to node2. Then when you run crsctl stop crs on node2 again both node1 and node2 vips will fail over to node3 or node4

But if you use crsctl stop cluster -n node1,node2 then the fail over of services will be on node3 and node4

Difference three

crsctl stop crs stops all services including OHAS

crsctl stop cluster stop everything except OHAS

crsctl stop crs vs crsctl stop has

crsctl start/stop has is mainly used for single node oracle clusterware resources. (Oracle Restart)

crsctl start/stop crs is used for single node of regular clusterware resource (Oracle RAC)

crsctl stop resource

Usually this is used when you have your own application specific resources. Oracle warns not to use this for stopping resource whose names start with ora.* But you can use them if it is required.

How to stop a particular resource

#crsctl stop resource myAppVIP #crsctl stop resource myApache #crsctl stop resource ora.asm

How to stop a particular resource type. The following command will stop all resources belonging to scan_listener type

#crsctl stop resource -w “TYPE = ora.scan_listener.type”

crsctl stop rollingpatch

Transition Oracle Clusterware and Oracle ASM out of rolling patch mode

crsctl enable

Before we discuss about the commands, let us a have understanding of cluster starts or does not start resources automatically at boot time.

First when boot server in Oracle Linux 6, there is a concept called upstart. Upstart (a feature from EL6) is an event-based replacement for the /sbin/init daemon which handles starting of tasks and services.

# initctl list # will list all the services which will be started when the server boots.

[root@srv1 root]# initctl list |grep ohasd oracle-ohasd start/running, process 4977

[root@srv1 root]# ps -ef|grep 4977 |grep -v grep root 4977 1 0 Jan03 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /etc/init.d/init.ohasd run

We all know that ohasd daemon (init.ohasd) starts/stops/monitors the crs stack. So this daemon monitors for a file at the following location

/etc/oracle/scls_scr//root/ohasdrun

When we run crsctl enable crs, this command will actually write restart in the above file. As init.ohasd checks this file at boot time, if it finds restart it will start resources automatically.

When we run crsctl disable crs, this command will actually write stop in the above file. As init.ohasd checks this file at boot time, if it finds stop it will not start resources automatically when server boots.

How to enable automatic startup of OHAS on Oracle cluster

The below command will enable automatic startup of OHAS when server boots.

#crsctl enable crs

How to disable automatic startup of OHAS on Oracle cluster

The below command will disable automatic startup of OHAS when server boots.

#crsctl disable crs

This is useful when you are applying firmware patches, or OS maintenance tasks which require many server reboots. We do not want to frequently start/stop crs stack automatically during this maintenance.
