Spanish speaker manufacturer DAS Audio launched an addition to the Compact series, which debuted here last year with the Compact 1. The Compact 2 System is a four-way, triamplified system that comprises the Compact 2, mid-high system and the Compact 18 Sub, low frequency system. The Compact 2 is configured as a three-way system that has a usable operating range from 60 Hz to 18 kHz. It can optionally be combined with the Compact 18 Sub for increased SPLs and bass extension to 35 Hz.

The horn loaded 15BN reproduces the frequencies between 100 Hz and 300 Hz. This 15″ low frequency cone transducer utilizes a 4″ flat wire voice coil and neodymium magnet assembly. The mid range is handled by a driver/horn assembly. The special 10BN mid-range device incorporates 4″ flat wire coil and a lightweight neodymium magnet.

The system is self-powered and incorporates two 500 W Bang&Olufsen ICEpower class D amplifier modules. One is used for the low frequency section and the other for the mid-high section.

The Compact 18 Sub employs a 700 Wrms 18″ cone transducer in a front-loaded cabinet configuration. The 18G4 incorporates a neodymium magnet structure. A 1000 W “Class D” switching amplifier utilizing a single ICEpower module powers the 18″ loudspeaker unit. With an efficiency of 93%, the ICEpower amplifier uses less electricity, reduces heat and does not need fans.

The Compact enclosures are manufactured from Wisa® Birch plywood and are protected against both the elements and abrasion by means of multiple coats of catalyzed polyurethane paint. A reticulated foam filter behind a steel grille protects components. L-tracks are provided on the top and bottom of the enclosure. 16 M10 eyebolt based points are also included for fixed installation applications on the Compact 2. Rear located wheels are provided to facilitate handling during transport.

The 225W MI-112 was also launched at the show. It is a 12″ version of the MI-115, which, together with the MI-215 make up the most affordable DAS series in the musical instrument segment. Like its bigger, brother, the MI-112 features an asymmetrical enclosure design which allow the systems to do double duty, either as pole-mounted front of house cabinets or as floor monitors. For high frequency reproduction, all of the Mi series cabinets use 1″ exit geometry compression drivers with 2″ titanium diaphragms coupled to a constant directivity horn that provides uniform coverage throughout the frequency range. Driver protection is provided by way of the non-intrusive, Active Safety Circuit (ASC).

The MI series is made from high density Complex Aggregate Board (CAB) and is covered with a heavy-duty black carpet finish. Side located bar handles make moving the cabinet easier and two parallel Speakon connectors assure connections that are simple and safe.

Also on display was the new line of speaker components, under the DAS Speakers, which represents a much wider range than ever for the company, and includes speakers based on Neodymium magnets, a material which is said to have gone down in price significantly.
