Guillaume d’Angerville’s enthusiasm for the Jura wine region began after a sommelier in Paris poured him a blind tasting glass of Chardonnay, which impressed him greatly and mistook the contents for a Burgundy.
This led to a five-year search for a location in the Jura. He consulted with a renowned geologist to find ideal vineyards. Eventually he acquired two domaines, one with well-tended vines and one with vineyards in need of renewal. He named it Domaine du Pélican, in reference to the pelican on the coat of arms of the city of Arbois.

Guillaume D’Angerville became obsessed with the Jura after a sommelier in Paris poured him a glass of Tissot Chardonnay blind and he was very impressed, believing that it was a Burgundy.

This sent him off on a five year search to find a choice location in the Jura. He consulted with a well-known geologist to find ideal vineyards. In the end, he and Francois Duvivier purchased two domaines, one with well tended vines and another where the vineyards were in need of some rehabilitation. At Chateau Chavanes in Montigny-les-Arsures, they created a state of the art winery surrounded by 5 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines that had been impeccably replanted 10 years prior by former owner Francois de Chavanes. The domaine is supported by an additional 5 hectares of chemically-free vines formerly farmed by Jean-Marc Brignot at a site of high-quality geology and exposure.

He named it Domaine du Pélican, a reference to the pelican on the crest of the city of Arbois.

All of Pélican’s wines are currently made in a topped up, non-oxidative style.

A blend of three grapes: 65% Pinot Noir, 30% Trousseau, and 5% Poulsard aged in 50/50 large foudres and Burgundy barrels. The famed d’Angerville BUrgundy producer has built quite the reputation within the Jura region. Light and delicate, yet powerful and complex. Savory earth, dried flowers, mountain herbs, orange citrus, and a gentle acidity that provides the length and depth that takes this wine to the next level.

L’Arbois Les Trois cépages du domaine du Pélican est le fruit de l’assemblage des trois cépages locaux du Jura à savoir le Pinot Noir, le Trousseau et le Poulsard. Le Pinot Noir étant tout de même dominant. Comme le dit bien Guillaume d’Angerville, on ne se refait pas lorsque l’on vient de Volnay. L’élevage a été réalisé en foudre et en fût durant 10 mois afin d’apporter le maximum de finesse au vin. Le tout est assemblé en cuve inox avant mise en bouteille.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier chez Mundovin : La cuvée Les Trois cépages du domaine du Pélican est un vin d’une extrême finesse au profil plutôt moderne sans la rusticité que l’on retrouve régulièrement sur les vins d’Arbois. Guillaume d’Angerville et François Duvivier, le régisseur du domaine, montrent encore une fois que leur talent est immense.

Au nez, le vin dévoile un côté floral intense mais également de belles notes de fruits rouges acidulés et des touches de poivre blanc.

La bouche est d’une magnifique trame minérale, dotée d’une matière extrêmement fine rappelant des vins tels que de superbes Chambolle Musigny. Un vin d’un équilibre magistral à la persistance remarquable.

If, like us, you have a weakness for a wine’s aroma, as much as its flavour, then we invite you to stick your schnoz in a glass of this glorious Jura red! It’s a treat for all the senses, but it’s your sense of smell that will be doing the big jig. It’s a blend of Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard and those aromatic varieties combine to create a heavenly scent. You will doubtless find cherries and flowers and strawberries, but there’s an alchemy at play that creates new aroma molecules, which are hard to describe, as they don’t have natural equivalents, but you will have your own impressions. The palate is lithe and silky and despite its light body and pale colour, has ample, sweet ripe fruit. A stunning wine and a wonderful value alternative to Chambolle-Musigny. 12.5% alc. The soil is grey and black marls, partially covered with fallen rocks (scree). The vineyards broadly face west, at an elevation of 300–400 m. 50% aged in barrel, 50% in foudre.
