For this drum cover I played along to a drumless track of the original studio version but I like the energetic Alchemy Live version better. So this is my tribute to Terry Williams, the great Dire Straits drummer throughout the 80s, I’m a fan! However, I did not cover his Live drum part note for note but I played in the style of Terry Williams.

Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church

Just as Jesus welcomes every person with open arms, we at St. Mary welcome the presence and involvement of all of our members – whether they are longtime members, new families, or just recently returning to the Church. Each person has a unique contribution to make and we welcome you! We invite you to Join St. Mary.

A Long and Rich History

St. Mary Church was founded in 1858 and has grown from “The Fredericksburg Mission,” serving 20-plus families to currently serving over 4,200 families, that’s 17,000+ parishioners!

Our Bishop and Priests

St. Mary Church is part of the Diocese of Arlington. Our bishop is the Most Reverend Michael Burbidge. We are blessed with four full-time diocesan priests, Fr. John Mosimann, Pastor, Fr. Sean Koehr, Parochial Vicar, Fr. Scott Sina, Parochial Vicar, Fr. Philip Cozzi, Parochial Vicar, and Fr. Robert Renner, Parochial Vicar. In addition to our Parish Priests, we are assisted by two permanent deacons, Deacon Alberto Bernaola and Deacon Dick Delio.

Getting Involved

St. Mary Catholic Church is a Stewardship Parish. We believe that God reveals His perfect and infinite love for us most visibly in His Son, Jesus Christ. We are called to follow Him. Using Christ’s example of prayer, gift of self, and generosity we strive as a Parish Family to be living stewards of our many blessings.

Just a word about getting involved. First of all, our family is a family formed by faith. By coming to know God better together, we will grow together as the Body of Christ. And, just as in any organization, one feels more at ease–more connected–if he or she steps in and gets involved. We can’t stress enough how important it is for you and your family to jump in and volunteer for a ministry. As you will learn, there are over 80 active ministries here at St. Mary. They range from liturgy, education, outreach, operations to parish life. They were all created to draw us closer to our Lord in service, worship and community. This is a large parish and one may very easily feel lost, please, jump in and get connected – you will soon feel like St. Mary is a second home to you and your family. If you’d like to know how to get involved at St Mary or what ministries are in need of volunteers, download our ministry catalogue, or fill out our Charism Inventory and drop it off in the office or in the collection basket any Sunday, or contact our parish Stewardship Committee at [email protected]!

Christian Formation for All Ages

Christian formation is a cornerstone of our parish life. We have an excellent religious education program for our adults, teens and children.

Our Parish Schools

Holy Cross Academy is our parish elementary and middle school, teaching K-8. It is located in South Stafford just 8 miles from our Church. At our parish school, our students grow spiritually, academically, physically and emotionally. We are dedicated to the education of the whole child, and to the good of each child.

St. Mary Preschool is located in the St. Mary Activity Center next to the Church. Our little ones, ages 3 and 4, are nurtured spiritually and academically in a loving environment led by Mrs. Sherri Castellarin and her amazing team of teachers. The children enjoy learning and loving the Catholic faith and music abounds in the classrooms.

Our Boundaries

That portion of the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County beginning at the Rappahannock River and Interstate 95 – South on I-95 to Fall Hill Avenue – Southwest on Fall Hill Avenue to Bragg Hill Road – South on Bragg Hill Road to Plank Road (Rt. 3) – West on Plank Road to Salem Church Road (Rt. 639)- South on Salem Church Road to Harrison Road (Rt.620) – East on Harrison Road to Lafayette Blvd. (U.S. 1 Business) – North on Lafayette Blvd. to the City Limits of Fredericksburg – East along the City Limits of Fredericksburg to the Rappahannock River; and that part of Stafford County which lies to the south of the Potomac Creek, including Hartwood, from the Fauquier County line to the King George County line.

Priesthood ordination filled with sacred, simple moments

Half of the new priests plan to serve as Navy chaplains after a period of time spent in the Arlington Diocese. There is a great need for military chaplains, and Archbishop Broglio said after Mass that he felt “tremendous joy” that these men had chosen to serve the church and military in this way. All six new priests, he added, “are a great source of hope.”

There to witness the ordination and welcome the new priests were hundreds of family and friends, priests and deacons, Knights of Columbus, religious, and laity. Also present was Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the U.S. Archdiocese for the Military Services.

As Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde laid his hands on the deacons and recited the prayer of consecration, six men – through the invocation of the Holy Spirit – officially were elevated to the priesthood. Seconds later, now-Father James C. Hinkle’s mother, Meredith, wiped tears from her eyes; a subtle smile appeared on the face of Father Joel D. Jaffe, Arlington diocesan vocations director; and a number of family members and friends of the new priests snapped photos with smartphones.

The Mass of ordination June 7 overflowed with moments of sacredness and humanness.

Bishop Loverde’s words at the end of Mass acknowledged both

the sacred mystery and human joy of the liturgy. After

listing the names of the men with “Father” in front of them –

Christopher P. Christensen,

David A. Dufresne,

James C. Hinkle,

Mauricio R. Pineda,

Scott Sina and

Steven R. Walker – he said to the applause of the

congregation, “That sounds so beautiful.”

Father Christensen was so overcome with emotion following

ordination that he forgot about this new title. “Hello, I’m

Deacon Chris,” he began to say greeting well-wishers outside

the cathedral. Followed by, “Oh, wait,” and then laughter.

The grace and gifts of the sacrament are so tremendous, it

will take a while for it all to sink in, said Father

Christensen.

“It’s all so amazingly beautiful,” he said. “I’m ecstatic.”

During his homily, Bishop Loverde spoke directly to the

priesthood candidates, emphasizing the importance of being

shepherds of their flocks and keeping the love of Jesus at

the heart of their ministry.

“You will be teachers of the word, instruments of His saving

grace in the celebration of the sacraments, and faith-filled

shepherds guiding and guarding those entrusted to you,” he

said.

Drawing from Pope Francis’ June 6 homily directed at bishops

and priests, Bishop Loverde told the men never to “‘never

forget your first love,’ who is Jesus.”

The rite of ordination, which takes place between the Liturgy

of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, began with

Father Jaffe declaring the men worthy of the responsibility

of priesthood. The bishop then asked them: “Do you promise

respect and obedience to me and my successors?” to which the

men replied, “I do.”

The men then prostrated themselves in front of the bishop, an

ancient posture of supplication symbolizing dying to the old

self and rising to the new.

Following the presentation of the gifts, each new priest

knelt before Bishop Loverde, who presented the chalice and

paten to them. “Understand what you do, imitate what you

celebrate, and conform your life to the mystery of the Lord’s

cross,” said the bishop.

After these sacred acts, there was a traditional “fraternal

kiss” of welcome from the clergy present. One by one, the

multitude of priests embraced the six men, joy welling up and

expressed with many bear hugs and claps on the back.

At the reception in Burke Hall after the ordination, the

diocese’s newest priests blessed family and friends, radiant

as they held their arms outstretched over loved ones.

“Today is everything I could have asked for and more,” said

Father Sina.

Echoing nearly all the new priests, Father Walker said

between blessings that it is difficult to articulate the

powerful emotions he felt. “I’m so grateful to God for His

grace and mercy,” he said.

Meredith Hinkle said that seeing not only her son ordained

but also the five other men is “an overwhelming feeling.”

“It’s not just your son you’re watching; we’ve walked this

journey with all of them.”

With men such as these, she added, “the Catholic Church is in

great shape.”
