This video was made for the enthusiast and or hobbyist. The engine is a 1993 light duty 350 (5.7) TBI (Throttle Body Injection) , it is not 34 years old as initially stated in the video , it was checked after I published the video. There is a couple minutes loss of sound at approx 1hour 6 minute mark and a song from 1:10:10 to 1:13:30 ( I apologize) to cover another copyrighted song as I had the radio on and picked up some Copyrighted Content ( song’s )by mistake. I did try several times to remove the songs with no luck.

the gm V8’s are all variations of the LSx. they are 4.8,5.3,5.7, 6.0. if you look on the heads there should be a 3 digit number on them. if you can post that up someone can figure out what it was in.

Hello . . . I need help on these two numbers V0414FWB and CRF524826 VO414FWB :

V0414FWB “Engine ID” : Hopefully someone can help. I’ve spent hours searching for what the “Suffix” “ of “FWB” is telling me about my engine, full engine ID Number stamped is: V0414FWB. I pulled this out of a Chevy Van but it is original to the van. I was told the engine came out of a 1994 Chevy truck. I would like to know what the “Suffix” is telling about the specs of the engine.

CRF524826 : Also, there are numbers stamped on the machined block deck at the driver’s side rear corner. The number is: CRF524826. I have no idea what this number is other than maybe a VIN number.

Here is what I do know.

GM 5.7LG SGI: Engine has cast into block “GM 5.7LG SGI . . . block is a 350/5.7Liter and SGI is the type of metal used in casting the block

14093638: “Block Casting Number” . . . block style was made between 1986-94, 350 cubic inch, 2 or 4 bolt main, roller, or non-roller cam.

Note: I pulled the pan and I have a 4 bolt main, I have not pulled a lifter yet to determine roller cam or not.

D114: “Block Casting Date” . . . D=April, 11=11th day, 4= is last number in the year this block was cast and the “Block Casting Number shows this block was cast from 1986-94 so the number 4 tells this block was cast in 1994 or specifically on April 11, 1994.

V0414FWB: “Engine ID Number” . . . V=Flint Plant, 04=April, 14=14th day (Block cast in Flint Plant and number stamped on April 14th). As I stated above, I have not been able to find what the suffix “FWB” is telling me.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Tom

If you have the pan off look up in there and see if it is flat tappets or roller tappets.

Thanks for the reply Jeff.

I’m away for the weekend and have planned on pulling one of the lifters out Monday to see if it is a “roller” or “flat”. The “suffix” will tell me horse power and other information I would like to have. I found some other general information that probably applies to my 350 but would like to find the specs for my suffix of “FWB” to have certainty. Below is the other general information I found which shows the Bore is probably 4.001 (2.45”main) which coincides with my block being a 4 bolt main.

General Engine Block Specifications

While 6 different bore size blocks have been produced, the small block engine can be classified into 3 bore sizes and 3 main bearing sizes. 283 blocks (3.875″ bore, 2.3″ main), 302/327/350 blocks (4″ bore, 2.3″ or 2.45″ mains), and 400 blocks (4.126″, 2.65″ mains). In 1968 the main bearing saddles were increased in size from 2.3″ to 2.45″.

CID Year Bore Main Cap

262 1975 3.671 2 bolt ONLY

267 1979 – 81 3.500 2 bolt ONLY

305 1976 – 96 3.736 2 bolt ONLY

307 1968 – 73 3.875 2 bolt ONLY

327 1968-69 4.001 (2.3″ main) 2 bolt

350 1968-88 4.001 (2.3″ main) 2 bolt

265 1994 4.001 (2.45″ main) 2 bolt

302 1968-69 4.001 (2.45″ main) 4 bolt

350 1968-96 4.001 (2.45″ main) 4 bolt

400 1970-72 4.126 (2.65″ main) 4 bolt

400 1973-80 4.126 (2.65″ main) 2 bolt

Thanks again Jeff, any more information is greatly appreciated. I’ve tried to post a few photos but when I click on the image icon in the group of editing icons a window pops up asking for a URL which I’m sure is a URL to find the photos. Well the photos are on my laptop computer and I don’t have a clue what to do.

Tom,check that suffix again,,, I believe it my be FWA not FWB,,, FWA is 1994 350CID 210 HP TBI 4×4 truck engine.

Eight90 . . . Thanks for the input. I have also found the “FWA” suffix in my search and that would coincide with my being told that the engine was out of a 1994 truck. I have a macro photo of the engine ID number and it clearly shows the suffix on the block as “FWA”. I have the engine on an engine stand and the outside of the block completely cleaned down to bare metal top to bottom. I tried to post the photo of it but I don’t know how to. I am not able to copy and paste, it needs to be uploaded somehow.

I suppose there is the possibility that there was a mistake in the Flint Plant stamping the number which I have read happened infrequently or there is a type-o in the Suffix table posted.

I have also read that Suffix codes historically have not been general knowledge to the public, only to GM dealers and the publishing to Suffix codes to the public have been to a great part by car enthusiasts researching and posting them. Since my 350 is out of a truck and not from a classic car or muscle car I was thinking that truck engine Suffix codes are not full posted to the public. Anyway, my not being able to find the suffix “FWA” when it is clearly stamped on the block has had me hoping someone out there has access to factory GM truck Suffix codes and could help. This dialog with you now has me considering there may be a type-o in the stamping or published Suffix codes.

Thank you so much for your input, any other thoughts or information is greatly appreciated.

Tom

Please help decoding a 5.7 LG SGI

Hello George,I’m new at this forum, but I am hopeful I can help you a little. In the past, one could look up engine, head, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds by the casting number and get information about their casting, from this website (mortec.com).Apparently, that function has been moved and no one on this forum responds to inquiries about where that information may be!:?I have found another website with some information about Small Block Chevy (SBC) casting numbers, here’s the URL to that site; Here’s the home page URL;Click the link; Chevrolet casting numbersNow, about your engine block; the Number 10243880 is the engine block casting number, the best info I’ve been able to come up with on it is; “1996 – up, 350 cubic inch (5.7 liter), 2 & 4-Bolt Vortec Roller”.So, your engine is definitely a VORTEC ZZ4, with a roller cam, with any luck, yours is the 4 bolt mains, a stronger bottom end and most desirable engine for building horsepower and torque.By my personal experience, this is a great engine to build a lot of horse power and torque, relatively inexpensively, at least on this side of the pond!High performance parts are relatively affordable and easy to get here.Just a $100 and a couple of hours will get approximately 10 – 12% gain in hp and 12 – 15% gain in torque, by simply replacing the valve rocker arms with a set of stamped, roller tip 1.6 ratio rockers, just as an example.Of course, one would want to replace the adjustment nuts (they usually don’t come with the roller tip rocker arms), about $1 each (requires 16), then one would want to replace the valve cover gaskets as well, about $9 – 10, so the reality would be about $125 probably plus some taxes. But still affordable.Using the before mentioned website, it would be beneficial to look up your heads, intake manifold and exhaust manifold by their casting numbers to see if they are proper for the engine.Of course, if one has some spare change laying around, I’d replace the exhaust manifolds for headers (I prefer Flowtech Afterburners for best torque performance and affordable price) and replace the intake manifold for an Edelbrock AirGap intake manifold, then a Demon 750 cfm (Cubic Feet per Minute) carburetor on top of that.Depending on the actual heads you have on your engine and the cam (of course assuming the upgrade of the roller tip rockers), you would be pushing an additional +125 horse power and +150 foot/pounds of torque! So, for an invest of about $1250 or about $10 per horse power (less per foot/pound of torque) you would have noticeable acceleration and general performance increase. There’s a lot more to do as well, replace the cam with a higher lift, longer duration hydraulic roller cam (oh yeah, now we’re getting serious!), replace the distributor with a DUI high voltage, preset vacuum advance curve distributor . . . . and so it goes . . .:idea:Lastly, here’s a website/store that has much to offer for general repair and high performance parts for pretty much any engine;Check out the stuff I just mentioned on their website!I have no idea if they will ship to Germany, but all it would take to find out, is sending them an email, through their website.Actually, they have a ‘chat’ function on their website, so one could find out in a few minutes on line!Hopefully some of this helps, so, greetings from South Texas and best of luck with your project!Ray
