Awesome Lowden F50c in George Lowden‘s favorite wood combination: African Blackwood combined with mastergrade Sinker Redwood. With soundbox bevel and cutaway. Grand guitar displaying the typical Lowden understatement.
This Lowden F50c is build with mastergrade African Blackwood for the back and sides. African Blackwood is an outstanding tonewood. It has long been recognized by classical guitar builders as the “holy grail” of tonewoods. With a strong responsive tap tone that surpasses even Brazilian Rosewood, it contributes great volume, power and brilliance to this phenomenal guitar. Because of its structural stability, it provides an incredibly strong basis for any top and provides clarity and sustain. George started using this powerful wood about five years ago and the combination with any top is superb. Combined this wood with Sinker Redwood and you get magical notes all over the fretboard with a superb sustain. Very well-balanced, gentile and responsive
Sinker Redwood is known for its good balance from bass to mids to trebles. Click the YouTube link to hear George Lowden’s words on this model. The sound of Sinker Redwood is ‘complex’ because of the richness of its overtones. Pluck a string in a quiet room and listen carefully. It is as if a choir shows up and is singing along. It has rich and strong overtones similar to Western Red Cedar and crisper, punchy treble frequencies reminiscent of Spruce. Because of its light weight, this magnificent tonewood is very responsive. Lowden F50c African Blackwood Sinker Redwood #25390
This custom built F50c uses unique and spectacularly Mastergrade African Blackwood for the back and sides creating a visual and tonal landscape of unheard or -seen proportions. It also has a figured koa binding and a cutaway. But it does not end there!
The top is made from Mastergrade Dark Sinker Redwood. Sinker Redwood stems from California and originates from those beautiful often 1000 to 2000 year old trees which are only used when they have fallen naturally. The ‘Sinker’ designations tells you it’s been on the banks of river for at least 100 years. The sound is breathtaking. The typical signature piano-like Lowden character is still present through the unique warm, defined and rich sound-palette the blackwood offers.
The 5-piece mahogany/rosewood neck with GL standard shape meets the body at the 14th fret, while the maple bound ebony fretboard continues it’s way along the top until it meets the soundhole at the 21st fret where it has been finished with a graceful wave-shape.
Most ideally suited for fingerstyle and drop tunings like most Lowdens, a world-class instrument. Travels in a luxurious Ameritage case with TFOA passport.

Brand new Lowden F-50 with an African Blackwood body (back, sides) and a rare Figured Redwood top. This guitar is a perfect representation of the incredible workmanship of these instruments – the tone is articulate and deep, with a grand piano-like resonance and sustain. The tone woods feature gorgeous figuring and make for a very articulate sound, with excellent note separation and clarity. The highs are pleasantly vocal in nature and the bass does not get boomy or muddy. Right out of the box we were taken aback by the play feel, tone, and aesthetic of these guitars.
This very special build features several custom appointments and was featured at the NAMM show.
