Nero 600m originated in Italy and reportedly had been sold by a nursery which had indicated it had been found growing in the mountains at 600 meters, thus giving some indication of cold hardiness, though we cannot attest to this (our farm is located in USDA zone 9b).
Our tree has not been growing as well since last year for some reason but we’ve fertilized it more heavily recently in hopes of reviving it. The fruit tasted in this video was medium in size with moderate berry flavor and moderate sweetness.
Previously, we have found the fruits to be small to medium in size, very sweet and flavorful. See link to other photos at figaholics.com

Substitutions may be necessary to ensure your arrangement or specialty gift is delivered in a timely manner. The utmost care and attention is given to your order to ensure that it is as similar as possible to the requested item.

Why do substitutions occur?

Occasionally, specific varieties of flowers or colors of a certain variety may be out of stock or not available. There are hundreds of flower arrangements and bouquets shown on our website and unfortunately every flower in every color cannot be kept in stock at all times. In the event that something is not available for your arrangement, the designer will select either the same flower in a similar color or another flower in the same color. In all scenarios, the original style and color scheme will be followed as close as possible.

Flowers

In arrangements of assorted flowers, the colors shown online will be used if at all possible, even if this means substituting other kinds of flowers of equal or greater value.

For one-of-a-kind flower arrangements, such as all roses or all lilies, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.

If the floral container shown online is not available, a similar container will be used.

Flowers shown on our website are in peak form with open blooms. When delivered, it is common for flowers to be more closed or tight to ensure the recipient will be able to enjoy them for the full life of the flowers. Please allow the blooms to open naturally.

Containers & Vases

Just as all flowers are not always available, specific containers or unique vases may not always be in stock either. This is most common during peak times such as holidays when containers often sell out. If your selected container is not available, the designer will select a container that is as close as possible to your selected container.

Stuffed Animals and Plush Gifts

Many of the stuffed animals we offer are items that are shipped direct to the recipient. In the event that a plush animal is pictured with a floral arrangement/planter, the designer will select a plush animal as close as possible to the one pictured. Since plush are constantly coming in and out of stock, your order will be filled as close as possible and filled to the same value.

Chocolates & Food Gifts

The edible items we use in our gift baskets and chocolate assortments are subject to availability. The items pictured are a representation of what could be expected but those items are not guaranteed. In the event that the pictured items are not available, we will substitute with other items that are the same or greater in value. We will never reduce the total value of your selected item.

Balloons

Balloon styles vary. The balloon bouquets shown on our website are a representation of what will arrive. We do not guarantee the specific styles shown will be the ones delivered. Colors and styles may vary but we will always select the correct occasion(birthday, get well, thinking of you, etc).

Plants

For green and blooming plants, similar plants may be substituted of equal or greater value.

For one-of-a-kind plants, such as orchids, we will make every attempt to match the plant type, but may substitute with another variety.

If the plant container shown online is not available, a similar container will be used.

Product Pricing & Distant Delivery Charges

The pricing of all products on our website is based on the costs for flowers, plants, containers and all materials in our local area. Cost can vary in different parts of the country and outside the US. If our delivery service has a higher cost for the item selected, we will reach out to you with options. In all scenarios, we will offer you the lowest possible price.

In the rare scenario that your order is being delivered to a distant area with little to no delivery coverage, we may require a price increase to cover the added delivery expense. Since every area and scenario is unique, the charge depends on several variables. We will contact you in advance for your approval.

Orders Being Delivered to Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Internationally

Flower, container and labor costs outside the continental US can vary greatly. These orders will be filled to value as close as possible to item selected. Stem count and overall design is subject to change due to local styles, trends and availability. Please know that substitution is common to these areas. We cannot guarantee the item delivered will match the exact container or flowers shown in the picture.

Due to time zones, some areas may need to substitute in order to deliver on the requested date(Guam is almost a full day ahead of timezones in the US).

APO Address Deliveries

Some military bases are located in remote locations that can only be delivered to via USPS. In these cases, we recommend non-perishable gifts only. We will contact you if the base you are sending to falls into this scenario. When shopping for something to an APO address, we recommend browsing our Gifts to APO Addresses section.

The Nero 600M Fig Details on FigVarieties.com

Brebas are quite hardy.

Main Crop Ripening Days: 80

A dark fig, bifera, discovered by Sergio Carlini in the Italian alps. Also known as Nero 400m. Main crop has a rounded shape. Recommended by Herman2 as one of the most rain-resistant figs appropriate for the humid Northeast sector.

Very cold tolerant, fruit quality excellent even with rain and humidity if properly ripened and tree is mature. Highly recommended. Some say it may be the same as Valle Negra and/or Valle Calda.

Robert Harper in Connecticut: From the foothills of the Alps in Italy. Its breba crop has survived upstate New York winters, in a pot inside a detached, unheated garage. It is said that it is very cold resistant, and tolerant of rains during the time it ripens. Some fig collectors think it could be comparable to figs like Madeira Black in taste. There is a lot of great hope that this extremely cold hardy fig will end up being the best outdoor fig that can be grown in the northeast. Hardiness unknown at this time. But, it may be a fig that can easily handle the cold through zone 6a. We are presently testing it now. One gallon pots should be ready maybe around 2016/2017?

Planet Fig as Vallecalda: This fig tree was discovered in the Apennine Mountains (Italy), in a place named Vallecalda di Borgofornari, at an elevation of 550 meters. Despite the cold winters of the Apennine Mountains, this fig tree bears a significant and successful crop of brebas and a very large main crop, which usually doesn’t ripen.

In its natural habitat, Vallecalda reaches an important size, bears finely dissected leaves and produces many root suckers. This fig tree has an excellent resistance to cold.

Breba crop production is good and the fruits resist very well to sudden temperature changes, they usually don’t drop. The fruit is very palatable, melts in the mouth, is very sugary and has a very good perfume. The skin is quite thin and sweet. It is an excellent fruit.

In its natural habitat, the main crop fig does not ripen, but in Haute-Savoie (France), at a lower elevation (about 440 meters), fruits usually ripen. They are smaller than the breba fruits, but more numerous and have the particularity of being exceptionally resistant to bad weather conditions. The eye remains closed despite the autumn rains. This fig must not be harvested while being excessively mature, because as the skin is thick, it becomes hard when ripening, degrading the organoleptic qualities. However, when harvested ripe, it is a sugary fruit of very good quality.

Finally, Vallecalda is particularly adapted to cold areas, even in unfavorable situations, thanks to its natural resistance to cold and its excellent fruits.

Figaholics: This fig was introduced to the U.S. by another fig collector several years ago after acquiring the fig from a nursery in France and the original tree was discovered growing in the wild at an altitude of 600 meters. Despite cold winters there, the mother tree produced reliable crops of fruit. We have found the fruits to be small to medium in size, very sweet and flavorful although fruit in 2019 was a bit less sweet and tasty.

eboone From Zone 6 On May 17 2019

This is a very flavorful dark purple fig, flavor similar to VdB. Reportedly found growing and hardy at 600 meter elevation in the foothills of the Italian Alps. For me in zone 6a it has not been very hardy, dying to the ground two years in a row with the same protection that preserved above ground growth of Mt Etna figs, Florea and Salem White; last year it regrew slowly and did not produce ripe figs before fall frost. Others farther south have reported fruiting after die back.Nero 600m has the tendency to show two different mature leaf forms. Usually the leaves have long fingers, but often there will be a branch or shoot adjacent to the others where the leaves are all palmate or of a single lobe. See leaf photos posted.
