oracle data pump import ORA-39002 with ORA-39070, ORA-29283 and others on Windows 10

I am using data pump to perform an import on 4 .dmp files and keep on receiving the set of errors as below:

ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file. ORA-29283: invalid file operation ORA-06512: at “SYS.UTL_FILE”, line 536 ORA-29283: invalid file operation

I am new to oracle and cannot find a helpful solution.

I am performing the import as in here, although I’m using oracle 12c.

The command I run in the windows command like looks like this:

impdp user/pass@db_name directory=DUMP_DIR dimpfile=”file_name.dmp” schemas=schema_name content=all parallel=4

DUMP_DIR is created in oracle and appropriate privs were granted.

I also ran this command with

… logfile=file_name.log

added at the end but I’m not sure if the log file was created or where it was saved.

I have found this – it’s about exactly the same set of errors but on export and on linux. At the end of the answer there’s a sentence ‘If we are on a Windows machine, then we need to make sure that both the listener and the database have been started with the exact same username.’ Is this useful in case of import? If yes – what does it mean exactly?

ORA-39002: invalid operation

I got ” ORA-39002: invalid operation ” error in Oracle database.

ORA-39002: invalid operation

Details of error are as follows.

[[email protected] ~]$ expdp mehmet/deveci DIRECTORY=datapump_dir DUMPFILE=mehmet.dmp logfile=mehmet.log schemas=mehmet With the Partitioning, Automatic Storage Management, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file. ORA-39087: directory name datapump_dir is invalid

invalid operation

This ORA-39002 error is related with the read, write access to the directory or existing of directory.

1. The Data Pump Export can fail with the following errors:

#> expdp system/ directory= dumpfile=.dmp logfile=.log Export: Release 10.2.0.4.0 – 64bit Production on Thursday, 05 March, 2009 10:43:55 Copyright (c) 2003, 2007, Oracle. All rights reserved. Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 – 64bit Production with the Partitioning, Real Application Clusters, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file. ORA-29283: invalid file operation ORA-06512: at “SYS.UTL_FILE”, line 488 ORA-29283: invalid file operation

2. DataPump export fails with same errors even after dropping and re-creating the DataPump utility and re-creating the directory.

Can report the following errors when attempt to run a datapump export

ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file. ORA-29283: invalid file operation ORA-06512: at “SYS.UTL_FILE”, line 488 ORA-29283: invalid file operation

Follow the next steps to progress this issue: 1. Run expdp using the following steps: a. Using Windows Explorer create a new directory in D drive called

b. Check with the Windows Explorer that the directory d:\ exists at OS level

c. From cmd window set ORACLE_SID= and within a sqlplus session execute:

connect / as sysdba SQL> create or replace directory as ‘d:\‘; SQL> grant read, write on directory to system; 2. Execute the datapump export dump using the following command: set ORACLE_SID= expdp system/ directory= dumpfile=.dmp full=y content=metadata_only logfile=.log

Note: Do not use sqlnet connection for the export execution. This is only for test purposes. Run expdp using exactly with the above steps. If the issue still reproduces then please execute Step 3 to make sure there is no issue with the directory. 3. Attempt to write a file in the directory using UTL_FILE Package from sqlplus in this DB. Note: After changing the file ownerships/permissions etc. the database and listener should be bounced so that they correctly read the updated changes.

When EXPDP is calling the UTL_FILE pkg, there isn’t a way to know that the problem is related to the temp file until you run the export with the FULL=y and CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY parameters.”

expdp ORA-39002, ORA-39070, ORA-29283 and ORA-06512 tips

Question: I am trying to run export (expdp) in a Windows environment, and I am getting these errors:

ORA-39002: invalid operation

dbms_datapump.get_status(178…)

ORA-39002: invalid operation

ORA-39070: unable to open the log file.

ORA-29283: invalid file opertion

ORA-06512: at “SYS.UTL_FILE”, line 536

ORA-29283: invalid file operation

How do I fix these ORA-39002, ORA-39070. ORA-29283 and ORA-06512 errors?

Answer: There are several MOSC notes that apply to this issue:

1 – Windows: MOSC Note 858401.1 – DataPump Export (EXPDP) To A Windows Mapped Network Drive Returns Errors ORA-39002 ORA-39070 ORA-29283 ORA-6512

2 – UNIX/Linux: MOSC Note 1305166.1: Errors ORA-39002 ORA-39070 ORA-29283 ORA-6512 When Using DataPump Export (EXPDP) or Import (IMPDP).

a) Our schemas don’t have read, write access to the directory specified or

b) the oracle user does not have read, write access on the directory at the Operating System level.

So that’s an easy fix :

sudo chown -R oracle:oinstall /export/oracle

If we are on a Windows machine, then we need to make sure that both the listener and the database have been started with the exact same username.

When I have a look at the security of the folder referenced by DMPDIR, I must also have read and write access to it. (in windows when I right click on the folder-> properties-> Security (reading and writing are crossed).)

No idea how to import the dump file?

Thanks in advance,

Thomas Are what OS you on. On Windows server, it may be that the user cannot write to this directory because of the restrictions of the user.

The error is generated because he wants to write a log file to the location of the DIRECTORY. Check also if UTL_FILE_DIR includes the directory entry (post its value here) Workaround solution: -Move the file to another directory and work from there

Impdp errors 39002-39070 – 29283-06512 Hello world I am an intern and I never work on DB before. I tried a lot of time on the internet but I have not found a solution that works for the moment. I am running Windows XP 32 bit, Oracle 11 g (11.2.0.1.0) I’m actually trying to import schemas with datapump on my local DB .dmp file. My boss gives me a .dmp file from her computer and I put it in a folder (C:\datapump) on my computer. I have already created “user” on my DB and a record “datapump” on my DB to. I tried: impdp username/password SCHEMA schema_name DIRECTORY = datapump DUMPFILE = ext_file.dmp = And I have this error: ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: unable to open the log file ORA-29283: invalid file operation ORA-06512: at “SYS.” UTL_FILE”, line 536 ORA-29283: invalid file operation What stage have I missed? Sorry to ask this error again, I read a lot of topic in this forum on this subject, but I can’t fix it. So I create this topic. My computer is running oracle database 11 g 2 express edition on ubuntu LTS 14.04. I’m trying to import the database of dmp file. That’s what I do:

my_project.dmp file is stored on /home/hoangnv/Downloads/db folder.

Finally, I ran the command below in terminal: impdp hoangnv/[email protected] directory = dmpdir dumpfile = my_project.dmp logfile = my_project.log

That’s what see the Terminal: ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: unable to open the log file. ORA-29283: invalid file operation ORA-06512: at “SYS.” UTL_FILE”, line 536 ORA-29283: invalid file operation Any ideas? I run these commands on window and import the database successfully. Hello Please try the suggestions below: 1. make sure that the roles granted to the user are ‘default’ for him. SQL > change the user hoangnv the role by default all; then try to re-import. Note: the DBA role contains the IMP_FULL_DATABASE with it. 2. try import with the use of the ‘System’ this time, which is the result then? don’t forget to give the system read, write on directory dmpdir. 3. is the permission to/home/hoangnv/Downloads/db fine OS?

C:\test>impdp cgernon/**** DIRECTORY=dp_dir SERVICE_NAME=test1 DUMPFILE=export.dmp LOGFILE=import.log Import: Release 11.1.0.6.0 – Production on Friday, 27 May, 2011 12:01:08 Copyright (c) 2003, 2007, Oracle. ORA-39087: directory name DP_DIR is invalid “But Mercurial!”, you say, ‘ surely you screwed something up to the implementation of the directory and either it does not exist or you do not have access to it! I’d be the first to agree that is the most likely cause of the problem, but by making the following queries to check a second time leaves me in a State of complete confusion:

select * from all_directories; OWNER DIRECTORY_NAME DIRECTORY_PATH —– ————– ——————- SYS DP_DIR C:\OracleImportTest select * from user_tab_privs where table_name = ‘DP_DIR’; GRANTEE OWNER TABLE_NAME GRANTOR PRIVILEGE GRANTABLE HIERARCHY ——- —– ———- ——- ——— ——— ——— CGERNON SYS DP_DIR SYS READ NO NO CGERNON SYS DP_DIR SYS WRITE NO NO Anyone know of any other conditions that can cause this error, or see what I’m missing here? I’m completely mystified. Thank you! Hello If you do not use a RAC database, I’m not sure that you use the SERVICE_NAME parameter. The SERVICE_NAME is used to specify the Instance (in a CAR) that you want to use for importing: http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e16536/dp_import.htm#CIHHFIDE Otherwise, you can specify the complete connection string or set the ORACLE_SID environment variable. Hope this helps.

IMPDP – Table not found Hello I am trying to import a specific table. I tried to use the schema name directly and also ‘——as sysdba “in utility impdp. Both are giving the same error as shown below, ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39166: object not found Schemaname.OBJECT_LINKS. Impdp name username/password DIRECTORY = EXP_IMP_EM = dumpfile * .dmp logfile = import_160216.log tables = OBJECT_LINKS content = data_only table_exists_action = truncate (or) Impdp——“/ ACE sysdba\ ‘ DIRECTORY = EXP_IMP_EM = dumpfile * .dmp logfile = import_160216.log tables = schemaname. Content OBJECT_LINKS = data_only table_exists_action = truncate Above are the instructions that I used, in both cases that the table is not found. But I checked and the table exists. I don’t understand the problem. Could someone help me on this please? > The dump file has details on objects SCHEMA1 and with this file I want to import a particular table in SCHEMA2. Below the synatx used, > > impdp/password system DIRECTORY = EXP_IMP_EM = dumpfile * .dmp logfile = import_160216.log tables = SCHEMA2.object_links content = data_only table_exists_action = truncate master_only = y job_name = master If the dumpfile has schema1 and schema2 want, then you have to a remap_schema = schema1:schema2 The above-mentioned remap table will not work. You can’t remap a pattern with a remap_table parameter. > Now the select object_schema of the query, object_name of the master where object_type IN (‘TABLE’, ‘TABLE_DATA’) and object_name = “OBJECT_LINKS” give inferior results > > OBJECT_SCHEMA OBJECT_NAME > SCHEMA2 OBJECT_LINKS > SCHEMA1 OBJECT_LINKS > SCHEMA1 OBJECT_LINKS > SCHEMA1 OBJECT_LINKS I would have had you add more than a few columns to the query. Select parameter type_objet, object_schema, processing_state, processing_status of the master where object_type IN (‘TABLE’, ‘TABLE_DATA’) and object_name = ‘OBJECT_LINKS’ and process_order > 0 and duplicate = 0; You can post the modified query results? Looking at the, they APPEAR to be good, but we are dealing with Windows here, and permissions under Windows have always been somewhat a mystery to me. FWIW, there is also a “G:\orcl\rman” directory where rman backups and logs of TIME to go, and there is no problem with these jobs. I can find no distinction between the permissions on g:\orcl\rman and g:\orcl\dpump, but once again, with the safety of Windows, I don’t know what I was looking for. The database software was installed by a domain account (< domain > \OraAdmin) and all of these directories are created by the same account. This domain account is a member of the local Administrators group. Hi Ed, Sorry for asking it – I knew that you would have given all subsidies on this directory (can you tour more check – just in case). I hope that you perform expdp with system user – according to the standard (in the case of the owner of the respective schemas – privs are granted/assigned) Do you use service_name in your expdp by chance? Can you share expdp statement – just in case (sorry to ask) Update: Under windows you can try DATA_PUMP_DIR = – his case set -Pavan Kumar N

Error during IMPDP of Client M/c. Hi, I use Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 Oracle.

I want to import a dump of the database at one of the other databases and (Note:-I do not have access to the physical database server). I am running my machine (client m/c) control only as dump remains in my local folder. I am using below command.

(1) ‘ TEMP_DIR’ created on the target of the databases which points to “C:\Temp\dump”, but dump is not on the server, its on my local m/c, road C:\Temp\dump.

(order 2):

Impdp system/[email protected] REMAP_SCHEMA = schema1:schem_new1, schema2:schem_new2 directory = dumpfile TEMP_DIR = abc. Logfile = abc.log DMP;

its giving error

ORA-39002: invalid operation

ORA-39070: unable to open the log file.

ORA-29283: invalid file operation

ORA-06512: at “SYS.” UTL_FILE”, line 536

ORA-29283: invalid file operation Can you please help me, what is the error. It should not, in general. Dump utilities take care of conversion characterset, assuming that the characters of the target are a superset of the characterset source (which is in your case) HTH

Could not import the database using impdp via network_link Dear all, I’m trying to import the database from the remote location to my local database dump after you have created the dblink to local db db remotely.

On a remote server:

-Directory created and granted privileges. Name dir: PREMLIVE_EXPDP

To the Local Server:

User name: expuser with database privileges full dba, imp and exp.

Name of the DB link: to_premiatest14

I faced an error of no valid directory when I run the command on the local server to import the schema of remote database below.

C:\ > impdp expuser/expuser network_link = rΘpertoire to_premiatest14 = PREMLIVE_EXPDP remap_schema = PREMIATEST:PREMIATEST15 logfile = 2013-09 – 02_premiatest15.log Connected to: Oracle Database 10 g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 – 64 bit Production With partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options ORA-39002: invalid operation ORA-39070: unable to open the log file. ORA-39087: directory PREMLIVE_EXPDP name is invalid Help or advice would be really appreciated. Kind regards Syed Hi Syed, I think you do the opposite on the directory stuff. The directory parameter is just to hold the log file. There is no file dumpfile required in IMPDP via dblink operations it’s all cross-network. Basically, what is lacking is the DIRECTORY on the local server. Don’t forget not also create the associated tablespace and remap if necessary. Kind regards Rodrigo

IMPDP for non – dba Hi all 11.2.0.1 AIX 6.1 I have problems with EXPDP and IMPDP when you use non – dba users. Here are the steps I followed: 1. I created as user root, the /dpdump directory. 2. the chown 777 /dpdump. 3. as the user oracle, I connect to sqlplus / as sysdba, create or replace directory DATA_PUMP_DIR as ‘ / dpdump’; 4 to grant read, write on data_pump_dir HR.

5 login: oper01 aix non – dba user. 6 copy dumpfile emp.dmp to /dpdump 7 run impdp dumpfile sqlfile = emp.sql emp.dmp = h/h

What is the purpose of the exporters and importers? -If the requirements are clear, no doubt that we can provide you with the exact steps. 3. are we export from an OS user and try to import using another OS user?, if yes, why we follow this approach -export and import of the scheme are different (in oracle) If you can use REMAP_SCHEMA. Thank you

Rajiv.

IMPDP – how to import a dump file data including the dumpfiles Clustered.

Hello Can someone suggest me how will import data from dumpfile using IMPDP, if the EXPDP has used several Dumpfiles clusters. ? I want to import a particular file will only, which will be possible? When I tried this way I was getting error. IMPDP USER/[email protected] DIRECTORY is DUMPFILE DATA_PUMP_DIR = DUMPFILE01. DMP LOGFILE = IMPDP_DUMPFILE01. LOG SCHEMA = < NAME > ORA: 39002 INVALID OPERATION ORA: 39059 dump file set is incomplete ORA: 39246 cannot locate a master table in provided dumpfile breast. Note: The Exp was made in oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0), I import the dump file in Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 Please advise on this. Concerning Suresh This doesn’t make much sense. I guess you have several dumpfiles from an export order and you don’t want to import 1. How can you know what is in the dumpfile that you want to import? Is the last thing that will do the job of data pump export the main table. How do you know which file is in and then you’re sure to import objects are in the same dumpfile. The answer is NO, this is not supported. During the Data Pump import starts, it checks that all dumpfiles at time of export are included in the import job. If this is not the case, the job will fail. IMPDP causing ORA-39002 with no subsequent message

In the past, I’ve seen ORA-39002 followed by subsequent errors providing more detail on the issue. In this case, I get no other information in the console or in the logfile that is created in my directory.

Here is what I see in CMD trying to run an IMPDP command on any dumpfile in Oracle 18c XE:

D:\backups>impdp system/ schemas= directory= dumpfile=.DMP Import: Release 18.0.0.0.0 – Production on Mon May 2 16:21:19 2022 Version 18.4.0.0.0 Copyright (c) 1982, 2019, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Connected to: Oracle Database 18c Express Edition Release 18.0.0.0.0 – Production ORA-39002: invalid operation D:\backups>

This is a fairly new installation, but I ran an IMPDP in the last few days and it worked without any issues. I don’t know of anything that would have changed, and it is a local installation on my workstation that only I use.

Assuming that it might be a file permissions issue, I triple-checked permissions on my dumpfile directory as well as the entry in dba_directories and everything looks fine. In fact, a logfile is created with the following:

;;; Import: Release 18.0.0.0.0 – Production on Mon May 2 16:17:36 2022 Version 18.4.0.0.0 Copyright (c) 1982, 2019, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. ;;; Connected to: Oracle Database 18c Express Edition Release 18.0.0.0.0 – Production Master table “SYSTEM”.”SYS_IMPORT_SCHEMA_01″ successfully loaded/unloaded Job “SYSTEM”.”SYS_IMPORT_SCHEMA_01″ successfully completed at Mon May 2 16:17:38 2022 elapsed 0 00:00:02 Job “SYSTEM”.”SYS_IMPORT_SCHEMA_01″ successfully completed at Mon May 2 16:17:39 2022 elapsed 0 00:00:02

I also thought it might be a timezone upgrade requirement since I’ve seen that issue before as well, but after comparing the version in v$timezone_file to the latest version available I don’t think that is it.

My question is what else can cause ORA-39002 besides logfile permissions and time zone issues? Or is it possible that one of these apply in my case and I’m missing evidence of it? I can’t seem to find anyone with a similar issue (i.e. console output of ONLY 39002) in all of my searching, so if there is any other diagnostic info that I can provide please let me know.
