The Pilates Ped-o-Pull- What is it and what can you do on it?

The Pilates Ped-o-pull is a unique piece of Pilates equipment that you may have never even heard of. The Ped-o-pull consists of a base platform and an upright pole that has two springs with handles. Participants stand on the platform,center themselves against the pole and then use the handles attached to the spring to do various exercises.

Like many of Joseph Pilates’ pieces of equipment it is simple yet genius, because of its ability to challenge the body to create efficient, balanced movement. The exercises you can practice on the Ped-o-Pull range from simple to quite advanced.

In the video, Carey teaches Sandy some basic Ped-o-pull exercises so you can see this little known piece of equipment in action! The Ped-o-pull is especially good for working on your standing alignment, strengthening the muscles around the shoulder girdle, fine tuning your Pilates breathing and is wonderful for strengthening you core muscles!

The Pilates Ped-o-Pull is one of the classic machines that you probably haven’t heard much about, it is designed by Joseph H. Pilates. It was created to help an opera singer student (Elaine Malbin), to breathe correctly and efficiently with the aim of greater efficiency in singing.

Working on this equipment allows correcting posture and alignment. It favors axial elongation. It helps us to be aware of our body from the feet to the crown.

It is a meticulous and very efficient work that we can achieve with it. It is a team that helps us to observe the student and thus teach him to correct himself. It forces us to align our feet and strengthen them. It is perfect and indicated in the case of breathing training (thoracic expansion) something to take into account in these days that we live. It helps us in the training and stabilization (correct positioning) of the shoulder girdle (shoulders).

The Ped-o-Pull is a device that, through stability exercises performed against the action of gravity, helps to strengthen the central muscles (Powerhouse or core), improving muscle length and flexibility, which results in a better posture.

The Ped-o-Pull is simple like most of the equipment created by Joseph Pilates but at the same time great due to its ability to challenge our body leading it to create an efficient and balanced movement. It is ideal for small work areas. In Pilates Equipment Fitness we also have this wonderful equipment that I recommend having in the studio, completing the classic equipment of the Method.

The Ped-o-Pull challenges core stability in functional standing position.

Ped-o-pull can be used with wall-attachment brackets or “free standing”.

Choose a kidney-shaped base to help properly align the feet (developed for Ron Fletcher), or the original square shape as designed by Joseph Pilates. Both are stock items.
