Then they stated that even though we had pre-check, we did not qualify and the boarding pass was not issued with Honolulu to LAX. Over 5 hours delay and did not know that we could have stayed in Hawaii free room and meals. Terrible and one of the worst vacations ever for returning to the US. The food was not great.”

And the JAL staff, on the ground as well as in the air, are Grade A diplomats, counselors, and — in a word — professionals. Which is sorely lacking in US air carriers, who don’t seem to understand that air travel is a service industry, and to excel in a service industry, PEOPLE are most important to the customers. Specifically, having enough people: US airline employees are well-trained professionals too, but “corporate” consistently under-hires/deploys, which leaves employees juggling far too much at once, which degrades the service experience for the customer. Yeah, I get “the bottom line,” but service industry customers will always go to businesses that offer better service. Ok, rant over. JAL is tops.” Cons: “Security and Immigration at Tokyo Haneda is harder than at US airports, but that’s to be expected and nothing that JAL can control.”

Thanks to ANA’s staff both on the ground and in the air, everything went very smoothly. When we arrived at Haneda Airport (around 1:30pm), we went to the Special Assistance counter to get a stroller. The staff was friendly and patient, and didn’t rush us at all. (It took a little while to get our things in order.) I was surprised to learn that we could check in from there, drop off our checked luggage and receive boarding passes, as well as an airport stroller. In addition, the boy who was awake at the time received an ANA airplane clip. We didn’t get to the gate in time for pre-boarding. I was dismayed to find out that we’d have to take a bus to the aircraft. We had the maximum number of carry-on bags, plus two babies, only one of whom was in a carrier, and we learned that the stroller couldn’t go on the bus. A gate agent brought our carry-ons onto the bus. She found priority seats for us and a place nearby to fit a bag that couldn’t fit on one of our laps. On board, the cabin attendants were attentive and friendly, and gave toys to the boys. When we arrived at Hagi-Iwami Airport, two of them even carried all of our carry-on bags off the plane for us. (They also helped with our carry-on luggage upon returning to Tokyo. In fact, we had forgotten to reserve a stroller for when we deplaned, and a flight attendant tried to find one near the gate, to no avail.) When I think about all the positive experiences we had in a span of about three and a half hours, I am amazed at all the different people who helped to make our journey easier. I cannot imagine it happening in my home country or on most airlines I have flown.” Cons: “Only the fact that we had to take a bus to the aircraft at Haneda, but the gate agents made it very easy for us.”

Thankfully they were helpful but they mentioned the ANA SHOULD have helped me find the next available flight but the representative kept repeating it was not her job. Finally she looked and said there were no available flights and tried to push me to buy another ticket through another company. My ticketing agent helped after she heard what happened and rebooked my flight for the next day. Hopefully everything goes smoothly but ANA staff at Gimpo were a bit of a nightmare to deal with”

Pros: “It appears that Air Canada is doing the correct thing for passengers who have reserved their seats in advance….after many years of not applying their written policy of making them board after business class/disabled passengers/passengers with young children, they have created Zone 2 boarding which permits passengers with reserved seating to board immediately after them, therefore guaranteeing them overhead bin space. As we all know, a lot of passengers board with much more than one carry-on, which is a plague when boarding.”
Pros: “The flight boarded quickly and even though we were at the back of the line there was still overhead bin space for our carry on luggage. The in-flight entertainment worked well on our iPads (no need to rent one) and the stewards always had smiles on their faces. The flight left on time and landed a few minutes early which is a bonus when you are on vacation.”

Pros: “This was my first time flying Air Canada. Our flight was delayed by 4 hours because they had to deice the plane. Yes it was frustrating but I would much rather have a flight of upset passengers then risking our lives. The captains and the crew went out of their way to make sure that we were the most comfortable. They gave us food and drinks as we waited and were extremely patient. Upon arrival many passengers had missed their connecting flights, including myself. They put us on the next flight out and gave all passengers a hotel and meals for the night. I would definitely recommend Air Canada. The plane itself is also pretty spacious so don’t be afraid to fly economy.” Cons: “Nothing really. They were great. I mean, definitely wished my flight wasn’t delayed. Although It wasn’t their fault that they needed to deice the plane, that’s something that should’ve been accounted for way before our flight was supposed to take off.”

One way there was drink service once even though it was a smooth flight and the return had drink service twice even though it was bumpier! Entertainment does NOT work on androids, it is NOT the AirCanada app they tell you to download prior to the flight, it’s an AirCanadaRouge.pk file that needs to be downloaded in flight! Which means we’re stuck paying for the iPad and of course only with cc because there’s no wifi for debit cards…. AC needs to stop this insanely mediocre and yet expensive monopoly.”

Because of this proximity to the horrible scene we could not see completing this trip. The Air Canada staff understood and accommodated our need change plans. They arranged for us to fly directly home rather than to our planned stop in Las Vegas.”
Pros: “No built in entertainment systems. YES PLEASE. Built entertainment systems take up room, sometimes have screens that can’t be turned off, and some generate a lot of heat. So glad they were removed. The built in streaming service is a much better solution. Crew was fine.” Cons: “Seats are just ridiculously close. This makes boarding take longer. I don’t think emergency evacuation is feasible. Have seats this close been tested for evacuations? Knees-touching-the-seat-in-front close. Taller people can’t sit with legs straight in front. Eat before your flight.”

Pros: “I appreciated that the plane left as scheduled, had plenty of legroom, and was attended by professional and gracious personnel.” Cons: “THe previous flight that we took, on June 20th, from Las Vegas to Toronto, was cancelled at the last minute. As we had a tightly-scheduled flight to Amsterdam, we missed that connection. There was no notification given prior to the cancellation, just suddenly came up on the monitors at McCarren Airport. No explanation was offered. THe flight that we were transferred to arrived in Toronto too late to get us onto our Amsterdam flight, and so Air Canada personnel gave us vouchers for food and tried to book us a hotel room. We were ferried to 3 hotels, and turned away at all of them, an dwound up sleeping on the flor of the kid’s area at TOranto Airport. we finally got to Amsterdam a day late.and had our trip upgraded to business class for our trouble. I have no quarrel with the treatment that we received from Air Canada personel. THey were very patient and gracious, in spite of a number of irate passengers in the same situation that we were in. However, the failure to have accomodations for stranded travelers was exemplary of poor planning on the part of administration, not personnel. I am really torn as to whether or not to use Air Canada again. WHen it is good, it is very good, but when iit is bad, it is the worst that I’ve ever experienced.”

As soon as I asked for food, the crew should know what is and isn’t available. Food was ok, whoever shot the pictures for the menu did a fantastic job of making it look good. Chicken wrap was good.”
Pros: “The most important thing of course is that we arrived safely of course. The plane was clean, the staff members were polite.” Cons: “The seats were so small and terribly uncomfortable. I looked it up and it seems they are some of the smallest seats in the industry. They packed the dreamliner with more seats than it was meant for, making it really cramped for an international flight. Most people had to sit with their feet in their chair because it was so uncomfortable, and my knees were jammed up into the back of the seat in front if I put them down. And I’m only 5’7″ so I can’t imagine what it would be like for people 6′ and above. The seats are hard, narrow and sloped at an odd angle. The bathroom design is poor – the lids of the toilets will NOT stay up and come crashing down on your back when you sit down (disgusting!!). I tried 4 toilets before I could find one that worked without the loose lid. Also the food was really inferior. It is the worst food I have had on an international flight, and I have flown many trips including Delta, Emirates, British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, etc. There was also a much smaller movie selection than I am used to. Overall it seemed like a budget airline and was one of my least comfortable trips.”

Need more consideration for people who may have varying food requirements that are unavailable to address during the booking process. I know you can’t please everyone, but why overuse an ingredient that has a relatively low appeal to potential passengers? Will try again, just hope they can use similar customer service in their food preparation as they have otherwise.”

After a 2+ hour delay, I had to pay $60 at the gate to check a CARRY-ON that I had already asked about at the baggage drop at the beginning of that dreadful day. They assured me that it would be no problem, and foolish me, I actually believed them, so instead of paying $25 to check it ahead of time, I got screwed for $60. For a close to 6 hour flight, a meal should be provided. Entertainment was free because of the fiasco, but normally it’s $7.99 which is ridiculous. Lastly, the leg room was really nonexistent. Truly the worst experience I’ve ever had flying, and I’ve flown plenty of airlines, both domestic and international. I definitely think my return trip back to Jersey will be my last time flying United.” Cons: “Refer to the aforementioned post outlining everything I did not like about this absolute trip from hell. Very disappointing to experience that and it really started the trip out on a sour note. Hopefully it gets better before I have to get back on another United plane back home.”

Come to think of it the only other airline that I can choose not to travel on his Spirit so United has reached new lows!”

Safety is first – but this was so clearly a thinly veiled excuse to keep everyone in their seats. United crews continue to find ways to provide poor customer service. Passengers are such an inconvenience!”

The stewardess doing the announcements went so fast you could not hear her except for a few words, and she had a very strong French accent so it sounded like she was speaking in French all the time. But at least she was better than the pilot, whom we could not hear at all. The only word we heard was “cloudy”.”

Pros: “My husband, my baby(14 months) and I took the flight from Hanoi to New York which was transferred in Korea. The flight from Hanoi to Korea got delayed so we have to fly with Asian Anna instead. The checking took so long and confusing. We barely made the flight from Hanoi to Korea and ran from different terminals to catch the flight from Korea to New York. We paid extra to select seat to sit to gether but then we found out it was just a joke to get money from Justfly since Korean Air said they only arranged seat at check in which we couldn’t check in as early as we wished due to the delay. And from Korea to New York, they lost our 4 luggages. How horrible could that be ? We are thinking about suing justly.”

I missed my connecting flight in Seoul because of the delay, but the attendant let me know well before that I would miss the flight. In Seoul they took me to their very nice Hyatt hotel where I stayed the night and they offered me a very excellent buffet dinner at no cost.” Cons: “There was plenty of confusion with the ground crew in Seoul and I was lost trying to find my way to the station where I could find another flight to Hanoi. However, as soon as I found the Korean Air station, they took very good care of me.”
Pros: “I really liked the prices of the tickets for this trip, I saved money over the regular price plane tickets; since I had 2 long layovers in Seoul at Inchoen Airport. I love this airport, it is clean, modern and offers so much amenities for FREE. The best for my second time LONG Lay over. My firtst time was at an airport in Alaska which I completely forgot since it was nearly 30 years ago. The flying experience was totally good from flying from BKK as it was also a good airport. I also liked the services, the crews were courteous and helpful.” Cons: “Flights were full and of course I had a seat in seat 32E next to a man who was ofviously either sick or had a bad allergy, he sneezed and sneezed 1/2 of the whole flight when he was awake and slept most of the time so it was difficult for me to get in and out to the rest room. Luckily the people in seats 32F & 32G were kind enough to let me in and out (I got out mostly while the lady in seat 32F was getting out of her seat.) Mostly the other experiences were good overall.”

The plane stopped in Honolulu at 6:00AM in the morning and no staff was able to assist so they made everyone go through the run-around to have the luggage scanned for agriculture. Then they stated that even though we had pre-check, we did not qualify and the boarding pass was not issued with Honolulu to LAX. Over 5 hours delay and did not know that we could have stayed in Hawaii free room and meals. Terrible and one of the worst vacations ever for returning to the US. The food was not great.”
Pros: “JAL lounge at Haneda was the best I’ve ever been in. The Business Class configuration is terrific — as private as can be on an airplane, without going First. And the JAL staff, on the ground as well as in the air, are Grade A diplomats, counselors, and — in a word — professionals. Which is sorely lacking in US air carriers, who don’t seem to understand that air travel is a service industry, and to excel in a service industry, PEOPLE are most important to the customers. Specifically, having enough people: US airline employees are well-trained professionals too, but “corporate” consistently under-hires/deploys, which leaves employees juggling far too much at once, which degrades the service experience for the customer. Yeah, I get “the bottom line,” but service industry customers will always go to businesses that offer better service. Ok, rant over. Pros: “I traveled with my wife and twin sons who turned two last month. It was our first time to fly with the boys, and we were nervous about the flight for this reason. Thanks to ANA’s staff both on the ground and in the air, everything went very smoothly. When we arrived at Haneda Airport (around 1:30pm), we went to the Special Assistance counter to get a stroller. The staff was friendly and patient, and didn’t rush us at all. (It took a little while to get our things in order.) I was surprised to learn that we could check in from there, drop off our checked luggage and receive boarding passes, as well as an airport stroller. In addition, the boy who was awake at the time received an ANA airplane clip. We didn’t get to the gate in time for pre-boarding. I was dismayed to find out that we’d have to take a bus to the aircraft. We had the maximum number of carry-on bags, plus two babies, only one of whom was in a carrier, and we learned that the stroller couldn’t go on the bus. A gate agent brought our carry-ons onto the bus. She found priority seats for us and a place nearby to fit a bag that couldn’t fit on one of our laps. On board, the cabin attendants were attentive and friendly, and gave toys to the boys. When we arrived at Hagi-Iwami Airport, two of them even carried all of our carry-on bags off the plane for us. (They also helped with our carry-on luggage upon returning to Tokyo. In fact, we had forgotten to reserve a stroller for when we deplaned, and a flight attendant tried to find one near the gate, to no avail.) When I think about all the positive experiences we had in a span of about three and a half hours, I am amazed at all the different people who helped to make our journey easier. I cannot imagine it happening in my home country or on most airlines I have flown.” Cons: “Only the fact that we had to take a bus to the aircraft at Haneda, but the gate agents made it very easy for us.”

When I arrived I was not allowed to check in or board and no one wanted to help me find out what to do. They suggested I call my ticketing agent. Thankfully they were helpful but they mentioned the ANA SHOULD have helped me find the next available flight but the representative kept repeating it was not her job. Finally she looked and said there were no available flights and tried to push me to buy another ticket through another company. My ticketing agent helped after she heard what happened and rebooked my flight for the next day. Hopefully everything goes smoothly but ANA staff at Gimpo were a bit of a nightmare to deal with”

As we all know, a lot of passengers board with much more than one carry-on, which is a plague when boarding.”

The in-flight entertainment worked well on our iPads (no need to rent one) and the stewards always had smiles on their faces. The flight left on time and landed a few minutes early which is a bonus when you are on vacation.”

Pros: “This was my first time flying Air Canada. Our flight was delayed by 4 hours because they had to deice the plane. Yes it was frustrating but I would much rather have a flight of upset passengers then risking our lives. The captains and the crew went out of their way to make sure that we were the most comfortable. They gave us food and drinks as we waited and were extremely patient. Upon arrival many passengers had missed their connecting flights, including myself. They put us on the next flight out and gave all passengers a hotel and meals for the night. I would definitely recommend Air Canada. The plane itself is also pretty spacious so don’t be afraid to fly economy.” Cons: “Nothing really. They were great. Novice flight attendants, they each picked on different things others missed just before them. No consistency, seats left reclined during takeoff and landing for example. One way there was drink service once even though it was a smooth flight and the return had drink service twice even though it was bumpier! Entertainment does NOT work on androids, it is NOT the AirCanada app they tell you to download prior to the flight, it’s an AirCanadaRouge.pk file that needs to be downloaded in flight! Which means we’re stuck paying for the iPad and of course only with cc because there’s no wifi for debit cards…. AC needs to stop this insanely mediocre and yet expensive monopoly.”

Pros: “We had a trip planned for Las Vegas on the Wednesday following the sad and tragic shooting at the Mandalay Bay hotel. We were planning to be at the Luxor next door. Because of this proximity to the horrible scene we could not see completing this trip. The Air Canada staff understood and accommodated our need change plans. They arranged for us to fly directly home rather than to our planned stop in Las Vegas.”
Pros: “No built in entertainment systems. YES PLEASE. Built entertainment systems take up room, sometimes have screens that can’t be turned off, and some generate a lot of heat. So glad they were removed. The built in streaming service is a much better solution. Crew was fine.” Cons: “Seats are just ridiculously close. This makes boarding take longer. I don’t think emergency evacuation is feasible. Have seats this close been tested for evacuations? Knees-touching-the-seat-in-front close. Taller people can’t sit with legs straight in front. Eat before your flight.”

Pros: “I appreciated that the plane left as scheduled, had plenty of legroom, and was attended by professional and gracious personnel.” Cons: “THe previous flight that we took, on June 20th, from Las Vegas to Toronto, was cancelled at the last minute. As we had a tightly-scheduled flight to Amsterdam, we missed that connection. There was no notification given prior to the cancellation, just suddenly came up on the monitors at McCarren Airport. No explanation was offered. THe flight that we were transferred to arrived in Toronto too late to get us onto our Amsterdam flight, and so Air Canada personnel gave us vouchers for food and tried to book us a hotel room. We were ferried to 3 hotels, and turned away at all of them, an dwound up sleeping on the flor of the kid’s area at TOranto Airport. we finally got to Amsterdam a day late.and had our trip upgraded to business class for our trouble. I have no quarrel with the treatment that we received from Air Canada personel. THey were very patient and gracious, in spite of a number of irate passengers in the same situation that we were in. However, the failure to have accomodations for stranded travelers was exemplary of poor planning on the part of administration, not personnel. I am really torn as to whether or not to use Air Canada again. WHen it is good, it is very good, but when iit is bad, it is the worst that I’ve ever experienced.”

As soon as I asked for food, the crew should know what is and isn’t available. Food was ok, whoever shot the pictures for the menu did a fantastic job of making it look good. Chicken wrap was good.”
Pros: “The most important thing of course is that we arrived safely of course. The plane was clean, the staff members were polite.” Cons: “The seats were so small and terribly uncomfortable. I looked it up and it seems they are some of the smallest seats in the industry. They packed the dreamliner with more seats than it was meant for, making it really cramped for an international flight. Most people had to sit with their feet in their chair because it was so uncomfortable, and my knees were jammed up into the back of the seat in front if I put them down. And I’m only 5’7″ so I can’t imagine what it would be like for people 6′ and above. The seats are hard, narrow and sloped at an odd angle. The bathroom design is poor – the lids of the toilets will NOT stay up and come crashing down on your back when you sit down (disgusting!!). I tried 4 toilets before I could find one that worked without the loose lid. Also the food was really inferior. It is the worst food I have had on an international flight, and I have flown many trips including Delta, Emirates, British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, etc. There was also a much smaller movie selection than I am used to. Overall it seemed like a budget airline and was one of my least comfortable trips.”

I’ve been in small African airline’s planes which were small but not that uncomfortable.”

Mushrooms all mixed in with the seafood, so I had to pick them all out. Also 2 of the accompanying sides had mushrooms. Do they have a mushroom fetish like Cheesecake Factory? Need more consideration for people who may have varying food requirements that are unavailable to address during the booking process. I know you can’t please everyone, but why overuse an ingredient that has a relatively low appeal to potential passengers? Will try again, just hope they can use similar customer service in their food preparation as they have otherwise.”

Plus, what have you ordered 737’s without eco-plus. Where did the entertainment systems go?”

Pros: “I know it’s not the crews fault for the delay, but everything was just truly horrendous. I was a little hesitant to fly United after their scandal, but now I know that I should not have. After a 2+ hour delay, I had to pay $60 at the gate to check a CARRY-ON that I had already asked about at the baggage drop at the beginning of that dreadful day. They assured me that it would be no problem, and foolish me, I actually believed them, so instead of paying $25 to check it ahead of time, I got screwed for $60. For a close to 6 hour flight, a meal should be provided. Entertainment was free because of the fiasco, but normally it’s $7.99 which is ridiculous. Lastly, the leg room was really nonexistent. Truly the worst experience I’ve ever had flying, and I’ve flown plenty of airlines, both domestic and international. I definitely think my return trip back to Jersey will be my last time flying United.” Cons: “Refer to the aforementioned post outlining everything I did not like about this absolute trip from hell. Very disappointing to experience that and it really started the trip out on a sour note. Hopefully it gets better before I have to get back on another United plane back home.”

After no indication about any extra costs but only the inability to check in… At the airport I was warned by one of the agents when she told me that my basic economy ticket would not allow me to bring my computer back on the plane without being charged. I’ve never experienced this in my life. I said I’m not paying and I went through TSA and I boarded without any problem. United has just been axed off of my list of Airlines with which I will travel. Come to think of it the only other airline that I can choose not to travel on his Spirit so United has reached new lows!”

Safety is first – but this was so clearly a thinly veiled excuse to keep everyone in their seats. United crews continue to find ways to provide poor customer service. Passengers are such an inconvenience!”

But nope, they were all just hanging out in their area chatting and drinking. Ive never written a bad review, but in this case I almost even said something on my way out of the plane because it was just that bad!”
