Repo browser in svn “Repository moved permanently to… please relocate”
In the repo browser when I enter the svn root (http://servername/svn) directory I get this message “Repository moved permanently to ‘http//….’ please relocate
There are several projects in this repository and I can access/checkout/update each project but I can’t even access the root.
How can I fix this?

I’ve set up subversion and apache on my server.
If I browse to it through my webbrowser it works fine (http://svn.host.com/reposname). However, if I do a checkout on my machine I get the following error:
Command: Checkout from http://svn.host.com/reposname, revision HEAD, Fully recursive, Externals included Error: Repository moved permanently to ‘http://svn.host.com/reposname/’; please relocate
I checked apache’s error log, but it doesn’t say anything. (it does now – see edit)
My repositories are stored under: /var/www/svn/repos/
My website is stored under: /var/www/vhosts/x/…
Here’s the conf file for the subdomain:
DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/www/svn/repos/ AuthType Basic AuthName “Authorization Realm” AuthUserFile /var/www/svn/auth/svn.htpasswd Require valid-user Authentication works fine.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

So I restarted apache (again) and tried it again and now it give me an error message, but it doesn’t really help. Anyone have an idea what it means?

If I do svn info it doesn’t give anything usefull:
[root@server domain.com]# svn info http://svn.domain.com/repos/ Username: username Password for ‘username’: svn: Repository moved permanently to ‘http://svn.domain.com/repos/’; please relocateI also tried doing a local checkout ( svn checkout file:///var/www/svn/repos/reposname ) and that works fine (also adding / commiting works fine). So it seems is has something to do with apache.
Some other information:
I’m running CentOs 5.3
Plesk 9.3
Subversion, version 1.6.9 (r901367)

I tried moving the repositories, but it didn’t make any difference.
selinux is disabled so that isn’t it either.
How to Fix “Repository moved permanently to… please relocate” Error In Subversion
This article assume that you are using the subversion server to control your development source code. For beginner, i believed most of you has facing this error when you try to check in or connect to your subversion repository server.
Error and symptoms : Repository moved permanently; please relocate.
Findings and Mistakes :
1. Apache DocumentRoot cannot same with the SVNPath or SVNParent. Don’t Do this!
2. SVNPath or SVNParent does not overlap Apache Documentroot. Don’t Do this!
Solutions :
1. Apache Documentroot and SVNPath or SVNParent must be in the different physical path or directory, so that it does not match the url.
2. Change the Apache configuration as below :
DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName svn.local ErrorLog logs/svn.local-error_log CustomLog logs/svn.local-access_log common 3. Change the SVNPath or SVNParent as below :

At first it was the code that checkout down and removed it first. It’s good to checkout again. Later, the URL of switch to checkout was found as normal. The error was also searched on the Internet. But everyone else was checkout. I was in the SVN update when it happened. So it hasn’t been solved.
Today we finally got the problem. This is the problem in the Subversion FAQ.
I can see my repository in a Web browser, but the ‘ svn checkout ‘ gives me an error is about “301 Moved permanently”. What ‘ s wrong?It means your httpd.conf is misconfigured. Usually this error happens if you’ve defined the Subversion virtual “location” to exist within and different scopes at t He same time.
For example, if you’ve exported a repository as
, but you’ve also set your documentroot to BE/WW W, then your ‘ re in trouble. When the request comes in For/www/foo/bar, Apache doesn ‘ t know whether to find a real file Named/foo/bar within your DOC Umentroot, or whether to ask MOD_DAV_SVN to fetch a file/bar from The/www/foo repository. If You then create the directory/var/www/myrepo/this would cause a 301 error to occur.

I can view my repository from a Web browser, but an error occurred while executing ‘ svn checkout ‘: ‘ 301 Moved permanently ‘. That place went wrong. This means that there is a problem with your httpd.conf configuration, which usually happens when you set up a Subversion virtual directory that has two addressing methods at the same time.
For example, when you put the repository in the/www/foo directory, but you set up your repository’s root directory as/www, you’re in trouble. When someone requests a/www/foo/bar file, Apache will never know whether the file that the other person really wants to find is the/foo/bar in the root directory or the MOD_DAV_SVN module from the/www/foo repository. Bar file to get back, usually Apache’s processing behavior is to take the former way, so there will be a “permanent transfer” such a mistake.
The solution to this problem is to make sure that your repository path does not overlap, or that there are paths that other network shares can access.
One possible reason for this problem is that there is a file (folder) with the same name as the repository’s URL in the root directory of the Web site. For example, suppose your Web server’s root directory is set at/var/www, your Subversion repository is placed in the/home/svn/repo directory, and then you configure the URL of the repository to Http://localhost/myrepo under Apache. If you now create a Myrepo directory under/var/www, you will also have a 301 error.
I have a lot of SVN repository under/svn/repos, so I put a index.html in/svn/repos to connect to the respective repository address. So just like the problem mentioned above, the/SVN/REPOS is configured as

I have several SVN repositories located here:/usr/local/subversionHowever, my hard drive is filling up fast and I’d like to move the repos to this path on the new drive:/mnt/newdrive/subversionI dumped the repo (I am testing with a single repo first) from the old location and loaded it into the new location.I then updated the section of the subverion.conf file (see code).However, when I try to connect, I receive this error:”Repository moved permanently to ‘http://subversion.mysite.com/myrepo/”; please relocate”I found this FAQ recommended on this site but it doesn’t seem to apply to my setup:NOTE: I tried using “SVNPath /mnt/newdrive/subversion/myrepo” but I received this error in the apache logs:”Can’t open file ‘/mnt/newdrive/subversion/myrepo/format’: Permission denied”…so I tried using SVNParentPath instead, which at least produces a more useful error.Any ideas?
