Lost Communication With Fuel Injector Control Module (FICM)
What does this mean?
This is a generic communications DTC that applies to most makes and models of vehicles, including but not limited to Dodge, Ram, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, and VW. This code means that the fuel injector control module (FICM) and other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other.
The circuitry most commonly used for communication is known as Controller Area Bus communication, or simply the CAN bus. Without this CAN bus, control modules cannot communicate and your scan tool may not receive information from the vehicle, depending on which circuit is involved.
The FICM controls the injectors based on information received from the powertrain control module (PCM). If information is not received, fuel injection is not performed. These modules are more commonly used in diesels, although their use in direct injection gasoline engines is starting to rise.
Troubleshooting steps may vary depending on the manufacturer, the type of communication system, the number of wires, and the colors of the wires in the communication system.

A good starting point is always to check the Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) for your particular vehicle. Your problem may be a known issue with a known manufacturer-released fix and could save you time and money while troubleshooting.
First, look for other DTCs. If any of these are bus communication or battery / ignition related, diagnose them first. Misdiagnosis is known to occur if you diagnose the U0105 code before any of the major codes are thoroughly diagnosed and rejected.
If your scan tool can access DTCs and the only code you get from other modules is U0105, try contacting the FICM. If you can access the codes from the FICM, then the U0105 code is either intermittent or memory code. If the FICM cannot be contacted, then the U0105 code set by other modules is active and the problem already exists.
The most common failure is loss of power or ground.
Check all fuses supplying the FICM on this vehicle. Check all grounds for the FICM. Locate ground anchorage points on the vehicle and make sure these connections are clean and secure. If necessary, remove them, take a small wire bristle brush and baking soda / water solution and clean each one, both the connector and the place where it connects.
If any repairs have been made, clear the diagnostic trouble codes from all modules that set the code in memory and see if U0105 returns or you can contact the CC module. If no code is returned or communication with CCM is restored, the problem is most likely a fuse / connection issue.

If the code returns, look for the CAN bus communication connections on your specific vehicle, especially the FICM connector. Disconnect the negative battery cable before disconnecting the connector on the FICM. Once detected, visually inspect the connectors and wiring. Look for scratches, scuffs, exposed wires, burn marks, or molten plastic. Disconnect the connectors and carefully inspect the terminals (metal parts) inside the connectors. See if they look burnt or have a green tint indicating corrosion. If you need to clean the terminals, use an electrical contact cleaner and a plastic bristle brush. Allow to dry and apply dielectric silicone grease where the terminals touch.
Perform these few voltage checks before plugging the connectors back into the FICM. You will need access to a digital volt ohmmeter (DVOM). Make sure you have power and ground on the FICM. Access the wiring diagram and determine where the primary power and ground supplies go into the FICM. Connect the battery before proceeding with the FICM still disconnected. Connect the red wire of your voltmeter to each B + (battery voltage) power source going into the FICM connector, and the black wire of your voltmeter to a good ground (if unsure, the negative pole of the battery always works). You should see the battery voltage reading. Make sure you have a good reason. Connect the red wire from the voltmeter to battery positive (B +) and the black wire to each ground. Once again, you should see the battery voltage every time you plug it in. If not, troubleshoot the power or ground circuit.
Then check the two communication circuits. Find the CAN C + (or HSCAN +) and CAN C- (or HSCAN – chain) circuit. After connecting the black wire of the voltmeter to a reliable ground, connect the red wire to CAN C +. With the key on and the engine off, you should see about 2.6 volts with slight fluctuations. Then connect the red wire of the voltmeter to the CAN C- circuit. You should see about 2.4 volts with slight fluctuations.
If all tests pass and communication is still not possible, or you were unable to reset DTC U0105, the only thing that can be done is to seek help from a trained automotive diagnostician as this will indicate a faulty FICM. Most of these FICMs must be programmed or calibrated for the vehicle in order to be installed correctly.

Lost Communication with Fuel Injector Control Module (FICM)
What does that mean?
This is a generic communication system diagnostic trouble code that applies to most vehicle makes and models, including but not limited to Dodge, Ram, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, and VW. This code means that the Fuel Injector Control Module (FICM) and other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other.
The circuit most often used to communicate with is known as Controller Area Network bus communications, or simply put, CAN bus. Without this CAN bus, control modules cannot exchange information, and your scan tool may not be able to get information from the vehicle, depending on which circuit is affected.
The FICM module operates the injectors based upon information received from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If no information is received, no fuel injection takes place. Diesels more commonly use these modules, although use in direct injected gasoline engines are starting to increase.
Troubleshooting steps may vary depending upon manufacturer, type of communications system, number of wires and wire colors in the communication system.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a U0105 engine code may include:
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) On
Vehicle will crank but not run
If the engine does run: Hesitation Lack of power Poor performance Misfiring cylinders (runs rough)

Diagnostic and Repair Procedures
A good starting point is always to check for technical service bulletins (TSB) for your particular vehicle. Your issue may be a known issue with a known fix put out by the manufacturer and can save you time and money during diagnosis.
First, note if there are any other diagnostic fault codes. If any of them are bus communication related, or battery / ignition related, diagnose them first. Misdiagnosis has been known to occur if you diagnose the U0105 code before any of the basic codes have been thoroughly diagnosed and dismissed.
If your scan tool can access fault codes and the only one you get from other modules is the U0105, try to communicate with the FICM module. If you can access codes from the FICM module, then the U0105 code is either intermittent or a memory code. If unable to communicate with the FICM module, then the U0105 code that the other modules are setting is active, and the problem is there now.
The most common failure is loss of power or ground.
Check all fuses that power up the FICM module on this vehicle. Check all grounds for the FICM module. Locate where the ground attaching points are on the vehicle and make sure that these connections are clean and tight. If you have to, take them off, get a small wire bristle brush and baking soda/water solution and clean each one, both the connector and where it connects.
If any repairs were made, clear the diagnostic trouble codes from all the modules that set the code in memory, and see if the U0105 code returns or if you are able to communicate with the CC module. If the code does not return or communication is re-established with the CCM, then the fuses/connections were most likely your problem.

If the code returns, locate the CAN bus communication connections on your particular vehicle, most importantly the FICM module connector. Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging the connector at the FICM module. Once located, visually inspect the connectors and wiring. Look for scraping, rubbing, bare wires, burn spots or melted plastic. Pull the connectors apart and carefully inspect the terminals (the metal parts) inside the connectors. See if they look burned or have a green tint indicating corrosion. Use electrical contact cleaner and a plastic bristle brush if cleaning of the terminals is needed. Let dry and apply dielectric silicone grease where the terminals contact.
Before connecting the connectors back to the FICM module, make these few voltage checks. You will need to have access to a digital volt-ohmmeter (DVOM). Verify that you have power and ground at the FICM module. Gain access to a wiring diagram and determine where the main powers and grounds come into the FICM module. Reconnect the battery before continuing, with the FICM module still disconnected. Connect the red lead of your voltmeter to each B+ (battery voltage) supply coming into the FICM module connector and the black lead of your voltmeter to a good ground (if not sure, battery negative always works). You should see a reading of battery voltage. Verify that you have good grounds as well. Hook the red lead of your voltmeter to battery positive (B+) and the black lead to each ground circuit. Once again you should see battery voltage at each connection. If not, repair the power or ground circuit problem.
Next, check the two communication circuits. Locate the CAN C+ (or HSCAN + circuit) and CAN C- (or HSCAN – circuit). With the black lead of your voltmeter connected to a good ground, connect the red lead to CAN C+. With the Key On, Engine Off, you should see about 2.6 volts and fluctuating slightly. Next, connect the red voltmeter lead to the CAN C- circuit. You should see approximately 2.4 volts and fluctuating slightly.
If all tests have passed and communication is still not possible, or you were unable to clear the U0105 fault code, the only thing left that can be done is to seek assistance from a trained automotive diagnostician, as this would indicate a failed FICM module. Most of these FICM modules must be programmed, or calibrated to the vehicle in order to be installed correctly.

U0105 Lost communication with fuel injector control module Hi guys!
I did a complete scan of my car today just to check if it had anything, and it threw the code “U0105 Lost communication with fuel injector control module” in the Power Steering module. The weird thing is that the P/S light is not on, and it was not recently reset. Also the P/S turns on at ignition which means that the light is good.
I have a BlueDriver OBD tool and it said that a common fix is to clean the battery contacts and I did, so I’ll wait to see if it throws it again.
Do you have any other suggestions? I saw a post that said that it could be thrown because of constant use of the diag comms port, but I never use it.
