Don’t be tempted to use poly. Stick to paint-based poly, especially if one of your main concerns is fuel resistance and you’ve already started on that. A skillful brand is the way to go:

I always get a paper towel from the window washing station at the gas pumps. I take the paper towel and hold it around the gas nozzle while I insert and remove the hose from the gas tank. This way, petrol will never be spilled on the car. If you spill it, don’t worry. It will not act on the paintwork as quickly. Wash the area as soon as possible. Do not use the dirty water in the window wash bucket at the station. That would be worse than the gas in the target.

Some colors are, some are not. Some colors are unique and the same colors in another batch are not. Sometimes it dries, sometimes it takes weeks.

I’ve started painting my new Dirty Birdi with two tone Van/Suv acrylic paint based on suggestions I’ve read on these boards which indicate that this paint is fuel resistant. However, after reading some older posts, I see some mixed reviews. I can see that the two tone clear motor paint is fuel resistant but can this be sprayed over the paint I have already used? Has anyone used Dupli-Color Suv/Van clear coat? What were your results?

For compatibility reasons – you can apply varnish to varnish, you cannot apply varnish to enamel. The paint will crack, causing the underlying enamel to crack as well.

If you are definitely going to use varnish, be 110% sure the underlying color is varnish. If you are not 110% sure of the underlying color, use an acrylic varnish.

I have used the Dupli-Color on this aircraft and can confirm that it is fuel proof. I left a test panel in a container of 15% nitro fuel overnight with no problems (well the unpainted part of the test panel was a “bit” muddy 😀 but the paint was ok). The Dupli-Color ACRYLIC paint and enamel are fuel proof. If marked ACRYLIC, it is fuel resistant. For compatibility reasons – you can put varnish on varnish, you CANNOT PUT VARNISH ON ENAMEL.
