I’ve had Amtico flooring in our kitchen/family room for the last 12 years, in that time I’ve cleaned it with a vacuum, spray mop, mop and bucket, scouring pad and cif cream, bleach, Karcher Hard Floor Cleaner and none of it, no damage at all done, the floor just got clean.

The door to our garden is off the kitchen and is a regular passageway for teenagers and three dogs, so these different cleaning methods were used fairly regularly.

It still looks great and I think it more than proves that the initial cost was worth it. I probably should have replaced cheaper floors more than once by now.

Floor cleaning products

Most floor cleaning products that are PH neutral or non-alkaline are safe to use on your floor. Flash or similar products are good for regular floor cleaning as they are PH neutral. Avoid floor cleaners that add shine to the floor, as these can leave residue on the surface that can attract dirt.

It is important to dose the floor cleaning product correctly according to the directions on the bottle. Mixing too much detergent into your bucket can leave residue on the floor that will build up over time and become impossible to remove.

Avoid harsh cleaning chemicals and detergents.

It’s important to avoid using strong or harsh cleaning products on your floor, especially if it has a finish.

Using strong alkaline cleaners or bleach will almost certainly loosen or remove any sealant from the floor.

I fell in love with some amtico flooring for the hallway, playroom and living room. However, I also love my cordless Dyson which makes cleaning the floors (we currently have rugs in these rooms) easier as it makes cleaning so much quicker and easier.

Is Amtico and a Dyson compatible please? I know the Amtico is easy to brush and wipe, but I know I’ll find it much quicker to run the Dyson on extra high suction for the six minutes of charge time it gives.

Regular Care of Amtico Residential Floors Introduction Proper care practices will help maintain the appearance and prolong the life of an Amtico floor. The frequency of maintenance depends on the amount and type of traffic, the level of pollution, and the color and type of soil. If possible, prevent dirt from getting onto the floor.

A proper barrier mat system prevents dirt and abrasive material from entering a building and makes maintenance easier.

Daily Sweeping and Dusting Thoroughly mop the floor area with an untreated dust mop or dustpan and brush. Maintain the barrier mat by shaking or vacuuming it from the outside.

7.1.3 Manual wipe

Prepare a solution of Amtico International FloorCare Maintainer diluted according to the directions on the container.

(i) Apply solution with a well-wrung mop to remove soil.

(ii) Swipe with overlapping strokes.

(iii) Rinse the mop frequently and change the solution as needed.

(iv) Dirty water leaves an unsightly residue on the surface. Allow the entire floor surface to dry thoroughly. Ensure all equipment is thoroughly cleaned after use and stored safely.

Any scuff marks that are not removed during routine cleaning can be gently rubbed down with a non-abrasive or nylon sponge used on non-stick cookware.

(i) Spilled water, grease, food, chemicals and other foreign objects can cause the floor to become slippery.

7.1.5 Regular maintenance

At least once a year, floors should be thoroughly stripped with Amtico International FloorCare Stripper to remove ingrained dirt and any floor care products that may have been applied

7.2 Periodic Maintenance of Amtico Domestic Floors

Prepare a solution of Amtico International FloorCare Stripper in hot water according to the instructions on the container.

Carefully follow all safety instructions, especially note that the floor may become slippery during the stripping process.

(i) Apply liberal amounts of solution to a manageable area.

(ii) Allow 10-15 minutes contact time. (iii) Stir the solution with a mop. Do not let mud dry.

(iv) Remove manure with mop and bucket. Rinse the floor twice with clear water and allow to dry.

Application of FloorCare Dressing if required

(i) Pour the amount of Amtico International FloorCare Dressing into the pail.

(ii) Using a clean mop or flat applicator, load and partially wring the dressing. Starting at the point furthest from the exit, apply a thin even coat around the perimeter, then apply to the main floor with overlapping swaths.

(iii) Allow to dry (about 30 minutes).

(iv) Apply second coat perpendicular to first coat and allow to dry (approx. 30 mins). Ensure all equipment is thoroughly cleaned after use and stored safely.

Remarks

Do not use the same equipment to apply FloorCare Dressing as you would to strip it. Proper entrance mats, when properly maintained, can effectively remove abrasive and foreign matter from foot traffic and reduce the amount of dirt tracks.

Scratch

Use fiber mats to remove excess sand, dirt, and moisture. Sweep your floor more often. Use Amtico International Floor Dressing for that extra protection.
