Around The World Volleyball Passing Drill
purpose
Allowing your players to focus on passing, setting and footwork to further develop their core skills and abilities.
Around the world
configuration
Clean the entire dish.
Set up a line of players on any outside corner of the field between the line of scrimmage and the line of defence.
Set up 3 tossers on each side of the net, these can be coaches and players.
execution
The first player moves within the field and returns the thrown ball to the first pitcher with a BUMP pass. Then they shuffle sideways and get a throw from the second pitcher, who returns it with a SET pass. They then shuffle sideways and return another thrown ball to the third thrower with another BUMP pass. They then run out of bounds and move toward the net and receive another throw from the third pitcher, who returns it with a SET pass. After passing outside the net, they receive a ball from the first pitcher on the other side of the field and return it with a BUMP pass. You will then go back into the seat and continue the same back pass cycle – bump, set, bump, set. The next player in line can begin as soon as the player in front of them has completed the first three throws.

Serving Around the World Drill Diagram
I use this drill for volleyball camps or clinics with younger teams in a less competitive way and focus on the fun of going all the way! With older teams, I make it more challenging and competitive by letting them play against each other.
I’ll use this with my club teams too when we’ve had some serious training and I know they need a little mental break. The parameters of the drill make it productive, but they can let go a little and laugh together while playing this game! Exercises that help your team bonding are ALWAYS important because a team that enjoys each other will play for each other.

Around-the-world drill to warm up players in every discipline
Clinician: Debbie Brown, former head coach of women’s volleyball at Notre Dame
Purpose: To get all players to practice each skill in a fun and effective warm-up exercise
How it works:
This exercise proceeds in a circular motion, with players moving to a new spot after each ball contact, and keeps two balls in play at once, requiring concentration and discipline for each individual skill. At the beginning, both servers serve the waiting passers-by. After receiving their passes, the setters settle into the outside batting positions. Obviously attackers need to hit their balls along the line to avoid hitting others. In this video, you’ll see the players move through the circuit in a way that ensures everyone gets a good warm-up on all abilities.
Variations: After a few minutes, a center attack can be installed
Requirements: 12 players, a trolley with balls and a full court
