What stops Dua from being accepted?

Dua must be devoid of sin:

If one asked Allah, “O Allah, make me a Prophet”, then this not permitted and is transgressing beyond bounds and is not accepted by Allah. If a person was to supplicate against the one he has oppressed, it will not be accepted.

Dua or supplication is an important part of our belief. Allah (swt) has granted us the gift to call upon him in times of need. But sometimes we keep praying for something and we don’t seem to get an answer. We become discouraged and stop pleading. And often we start to think, ‘Allah is All-Seeing, All-Hearing, so why doesn’t He listen to me? Can’t he see the pain I’m in?” Shaitan keeps pouring such thoughts into our brain and we move away from Allah Almighty while Dua should be a source to keep the supplicant closer to Allah.

So why is this happening? When we make dua, sometimes they are accepted and sometimes they are not.

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

“And when My servants ask you about Me, [O Muhammad], I am indeed near. I answer the supplicant’s invocation when he invokes Me. So let them answer Me [by obedience] and believe in Me, that they may be [properly] guided.” (Quran 2:186)

From the above verse we understand that Allah Almighty listens to ALL our duas. But He also says, “Let them answer Me [by obedience] and believe in Me.”

According to the Quran and Hadith, here are some reasons why our duas are not answered or fulfilled.

1. Sincerity:

One must address one’s prayer sincerely and purely to Allah alone, without associating partners with Him. He must not worship to show off in front of people or to gain fame. For example, he must not perform Hajj so that he wants others to say, “He is Al-Hajj (or Haaji)” or give alms so that he wants people to say, “He is generous and bountiful.” or to fast in order to be praised by people: “See how often he fasts.” If one performs his deeds to solicit praise from the people, his deed will be undone. Likewise, if you ask Allah for something that you want from Him, you must sincerely ask it of Him. Call on Allah while being conscious of the fact that you need Allah and that He has no need of you and He can fully give you what you ask of Him.

2. Dua must be free from sin:

The supplication must not contain sin and transgression. If supplication is sinful, then it will not be accepted by Allah even if the father supplicates against his own children or the mother supplicates against her own children. Allah does not accept supplications that hurt others. Allah Most High said:

“Call upon your Lord in humility and in secret. Verily, He takes no pleasure in those who transgress the limits.” (Quran 7:55)

So if a person asks for something sinful, such as asking something that is forbidden in the religion, it will not be accepted because it is transgressing the bounds. If one asks Allah, “O Allah, make me a Prophet,” then this is not permissible and is a gross transgression and will not be accepted by Allah. If a person raises a supplication against the oppressed, it will not be accepted. If a mother should plead against her own son because he loves his wife, it will not be accepted. If a father should plead against his son for accompanying pious and good people, it will not be accepted. Therefore, the supplication must not include a call to sin or to transgress the limits of sharee’ah.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The supplication of the slave is granted unless he asks for sin or for cutting the blood ties.” (Sahih Muslim 2735 c)

3. Show Impatience:

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The request of each one of you will be granted unless he gets impatient and says: I have prayed but it has not been granted. (Sahih Muslim 2735a)

A person should supplicate to Allah while being sure of an answer and not just trying to see if it works. Some people ask to try it to see if it is accepted or not. This type of request will not be accepted. Call on Allah while being sure that He, the Most High, will answer you. And if you supplicate to Allah while in doubt, Allah will not accept such supplication.

4. Renunciation of everything forbidden:

A person must give up what is forbidden by Allah, so that he does not eat what is forbidden, or consume usury or wealth obtained through ruse or deceit, and so on. The request of such a person will not be accepted. The evidence for this is the following Hadith:

Narrated from Abu Hurayrah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “O people! In fact, Allah is Tayyib (good) and he only accepts what is good. And verily Allah commanded the believers what He commanded the Messengers. He (ﷺ) said: “O Messengers! Eat of the good things and do righteous deeds. Verily I am well acquainted with what you do (23:51).’ And He said: ‘O you who believe! Eat of the good things that We have given you (2:172).’ He said: “And he mentioned a man: ‘Who goes on a long journey, whose hair is disheveled and covered with dust. He raises his hands to heaven and says, “O Lord! O Lord!” But his food is from the unlawful, his drink from the unlawful, his clothing from the unlawful, and he was fed by the unlawful. So how can this be accepted?’” (Jami Tirmidhi: Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 2989 )

The Prophet (ﷺ) made him far from having his supplication accepted, although this man was worthy because he was on a long journey, dusty and disheveled because of it. However, since his food, drink, income and clothing were unlawful, he distanced himself from having his supplications accepted by Allah. The power of good intentions

True, most of us are unaware of the power of right intention. If you set your intention correctly, you may receive more rewards than your own actions.

Incredibly, just by maintaining good intentions, you can receive as many rewards from worldly activities as you can from worship.

When asked to describe his night prayer, Muad ibn Jabal (RA) said: “I expect Allah to reward me for my sleep just as He rewards me for my tahajjud.”

When he went to sleep he would intend: ‘O Allah, in order to worship You perfectly I must rest my body. So thank you for this sleeping blessing and I will wake up to pray thahajjud for you.”

So before you go to sleep, remember to set your intention. Maybe then you’ll earn more rewards while you’re awake.

The Prophetic Sleep Routine

Before discussing this, I would like to point out that we do not have a recorded sleep routine for our beloved Prophet (PBUH). In fact, we can’t claim that he took those exact steps every night before bed.

But we have many sleep-related authentic accounts of him. This is just an interpretation based on these authentic narrations.

We know from the Sunnah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would go to sleep early, just after ‘Isha. He didn’t like engaging in conversation after ‘Isha. He (peace be upon him) used to dislike sleeping before ‘Isha and speaking afterwards. (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

The Day of the Prophet (PBUH) ended shortly after ‘Isha. He would not spend his time socializing or engaging in worldly affairs. He would spend some quality time with his family and then get ready to go to bed.

So when it was time to sleep:

1. He (PBUH) would do Wudhu before going to bed

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whenever you go to bed perform such ablution for prayer and lie on your right side.” (Sahih Muslim)

2. He would turn off the light before going to sleep

It is reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When you go to bed, turn off the lamps, close the doors and cover the water and food containers” (Sahih Al-Buhari)

This could be in line with current scientific understanding that it is important to maintain a dark environment during sleep in order not to disrupt circadian rhythms and to support the production of melatonin.

3. He dusted and cleaned the bed before bed

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When any of you goes to bed, he should grasp the hem of his undergarment and then clean (his bed) with its help and then recite the name of Allah.” (Sahih Muslim)

4. He did lots of dhikr and recited part of the Qur’an before going to sleep

Here is a list of all the supplications and surahs that he (PBUH) recited just before bedtime.

5. He would sleep lying on his right side and put his right hand under his cheek

He (PBUH) said: “Whenever you go to bed perform such ablution for prayer and lie on your right side” (Sahih Muslim). In another hadith in Sahih Muslim it is narrated that he (PBUH) put his right hand under his cheek when he wanted to go to sleep.

And we Muslims know that following the Sunnah in all aspects of our lives will lead us to great glory in both worlds. Scientists are now proving that simply lying on your right side is good for your heart! Subhanallah!

So let’s try to follow this beautiful Sunnah and make our sleep a means of ‘Ibadah’!

Did the Prophet (PBUH) sleep eight hours a night?

In What Islam Says About Sleep, we discussed how the Qur’an and Sunnah emphasize the importance of sleep. So you may be wondering if Islam also tells us how many hours to sleep.

When it comes to worldly matters, Islam gives us the framework for how to lead a successful life, but it does not force us into any details.

For example, Islam says “eat halal and good food, but do not overeat”. The goal of this general framework is to help you manage and maintain your health. Anything that could be harmful to your health (e.g. too much sugar) should therefore be avoided to the best of your ability.

Likewise, the goal of sleep is to have a good rest and rest. A good night’s sleep improves all sorts of health markers. However, sleep deprivation is bad for your health. In previous articles, we’ve discussed how science backs up the fact that regularly sleeping less than seven hours a night is bad for your health.

Based on the general Islamic framework and scientific confirmation of the dangers of sleep deprivation, I would argue that it is Islamic to sleep at least seven hours a night.

What Muslim Scholars Say About Sleep

I really wanted to know what Muslim scholars say about sleep. I found the following passage from the Madaarij al-Saalikeen by Imam Ibn Al-Quyyum very profound.

Here’s a little synopsis of what he said about sleep (the bullet and the formatting are mines):

“The fifth spoiler is too much sleep, for it dulls the heart, weighs the body down, wastes time, and breeds much carelessness and laziness. Some of it is very macrooh, and some is harmful and of no benefit to the body.”

Here are some of his top recommendations:

The most beneficial sleep is that which comes when the need for it is greatest.

He recommends going to bed early and waking up early. He said, “Sleeping at the beginning of the night is better than at the end, and sleeping in the middle of the day is better than sleeping at the beginning or end of the day.”

Sleeping after sunset and after ‘Asr is less beneficial and more harmful. He says: “From their point of view, the Makrooh types of sleep include sleeping between Fajr prayer and sunrise, because that is a precious time. This time is of great benefit to those who are devoted to Allah; Even if they had worshiped all night, they would not allow themselves to stop at that time until the sun has risen, for it is the beginning of the day when the supply comes down and is divided and blessings are bestowed. That is the beginning of the day and the whole day depends on what happens during that time, no one should sleep at that time unless forced to.”

And it can lead to many deadly diseases that leave a person unable to think properly and feel physically weak. Creation is based on balance, and all good things are achieved by adhering to moderation.”

He then summarizes with the following passage:

Do you sometimes wonder why your duas aren’t being answered? Maybe there’s more to just saying dua and hoping for the best. I researched my dua and found that there are ways to answer your dua more effectively.

First, there are situations where your dua is accepted.

Second, there are times when your dua is accepted.

Third, there are requirements for your dua to be accepted.

Situations where your dua is accepted

The scholars have mentioned that when you are in one of the following situations, it is ideal for your dua to be accepted.

A person wronged or oppressed.

A person going through great difficulties after a disaster.

A person who travels.

A person who is fasting.

A woman in labor.

A person who has recited or finished the Qur’an.

A person who performs Hajj or Umrah.

A person who makes dua for someone in their absence (when you make dua for someone in their absence, an angel says, “Ameen and to you”).

A person who is frequently in a state of remembrance of Allah.

Requirements for your dua to be accepted

“Verily Allah is pure and accepts nothing but what is pure. And verily Allah commanded the believers what He commanded the Messengers, for He Most High said: ‘O Messengers! ‘” (Quran 23:51)

It is mentioned that certain requirements should be met in order for our Duas to be answered:

Your income must be legal.

Your food must be pure and halal.

You must do penance (do tawba) for your sins.

You should remove all unlawful things from your life.

Performing a good deed before your dua and saying it during your dua (as was done by the three men trapped in a cave by a large rock: each of them made a dua and mentioned a good deed, and the Rocks moved a little with each dua until they could escape – Sahih Bukhari).

To begin and end the dua with praise from Allah SWT.

To send greetings and peace to our beloved Prophet PBUH. A Companion once sat down to make dua and began to praise Allah and salute the Prophet, to which he replied:

“Please, and you will be given. Ask and you will be given.” (Tirmidhi)

In general, trying to keep your tongue wet with the praises of Allah, because gratitude itself increases blessings. Allah SWT says:

“Verily, if you show me gratitude, I will certainly increase you” (14:7). And the Prophet (SAW) emphasized this when he said: “The very best dua is Alhamdulillah (All praise be to Allah).” [Sahih Ibn Hibban]

If possible, pray salat-ul haja (the prayer of need).

How it all comes together…

Begin your dua by:

Confirmation of your belief in Allah SWT – Shahadah.

Asking him for forgiveness – Istighfar.

Praise Allah SWT – Al-Hamd.

Sending blessings upon the Prophet PBUH – Salawaat.

The Prophet said:

“Indeed, all praise is due to Allah. We praise Him and ask Him for help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and our misdeeds. Whom Allah guides, no one can mislead; no one can lead.” (Muslim)

Here is an example of how to prepare for Dua:

Say the Shahada – I testify that there is no god but Allah alone without a partner and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Say Astaghfirullah x 3 – I ask forgiveness from Allah.

Say Alhumdulillah x 3 – praise be to God.

Say Subhanallah x 3 Glory to God.

Say Allahu Akbar x 3 – God is great.

Say Salallahu Alayhi Wassalam x 3 – Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Invoke Allah with longing, longing and humiliation using His best name Al-Hayy (The Ever-Living) Al-Qayyum (The Self-Sustaining).

Express your need for Him and place all your hope in Him alone.

Tell your Lord that you have no one to turn to and follow the Sunnah to raise your hands when making dua, ideally in the state of wudu and facing the qibla.

Allah SWT says:

“Call upon your Lord with utmost humility and confidentiality” (Quran 7:55)

He SWT also says:

“And invoke Him with fear and longing: Verily Allah’s mercy is near to men of excellence.” (Quran 7:56)

Remember…

We should not have fear in our hearts that our dua will not be answered because of our shortcomings or because we feel that we don’t deserve it.

We are told that our “longing” for Allah to answer our dua out of His boundless generosity and mercy should overcome this fear.

Invoking Allah SWT for our needs is an act of worship and Allah loves to be invoked.

It is the shaytaan’s ruse when he makes us believe that we are not worthy of our dua being accepted. Make sure you have that frame of mind that makes you think you are humble when in fact you are too arrogant to ask your Lord for help. After all we are nothing without Allah SWT so do we really think we don’t need to ask for His help? Prophet PBUH taught us that Dua is:

“The Essence of Worship.” (Tirmidhi)

We should be patient and realize that Allah SWT fully knows our problems and is in full control of our circumstances. He will respond to our dua based on what is best for us and at the most appropriate time.

We must persist in our dua and not give up if we don’t get an immediate response.

When our dua is answered, we should remember that Allah SWT knows what is best for us, even if we don’t like the result at first.

The Prophet said:

“The slave will be answered as long as his dua does not involve sin or breaking family ties, and as long as he is not hasty. It was said, ‘What does being hasty mean?’ He said, ‘When he says, ‘I made dua, and I made dua, but I didn’t see any reaction,’ so he gets frustrated and stops making dua .'” (Sahih Muslim)

Allah SWT says:

“Perhaps you would hate something while it is good for you, and perhaps you would like something that is bad for you – Allah knows and you do not know.” (Quran 2:216)

He SWT also says:

“Perhaps you would hate something, but Allah puts much, much good in it.” (Quran 4:19)

Allah SWT will give us only His good pleasure (rida) and divine providence (‘inaya); we just have to ask!

Best Times to make Dua (Supplication)

There are certain times when dua (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by Allah (SWT) as mentioned by the Prophet (SAW). These times are as follows: 1. The last third of the night

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “In the last third of every night our Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) (Allah (SWT)) descends to the lowest heaven and says: “Who calls Me that I may give him can answer? Who asks Me so that I can grant him? Who asks My forgiveness so that I can forgive them?

Amr ibn Absah narrated that the Prophet said: “The closest a worshiper can be to his Lord is in the last part of the night. Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i, al-Hakim – Sahih]

2. Late at night

When people are asleep and engaged in worldly pleasures, Allah (SWT) gives the believers an opportunity or answering hour when they can fight sleep and call upon Allah (SWT) for whatever they need. The Prophet (saas) said: ‘There is an hour at night when no Muslim asks Allah of any matter of this world or the Hereafter except that he obtain it, and this (occurs) every night.’

[Muslim #757]

3. Between Adhan and Iqamah

Anas (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “A request between Adhan and Iqama will not be refused.”

[Ahmad, abu Dawud No. 521, at-Tirmidhi No. 212, Sahih al-Jami No. 3408, an-Nasai and Ibn Hibban rated it Sahih (Ton)]

4. One hour on Friday

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) spoke about Friday and said: “On Friday there is an hour and if a Muslim gets it while offering salat (prayer) and asking something from Allah (SWT), then Allah (SWT ) will definitely supply his need.’ And he (the Prophet) indicated with his hands the brevity of this special time. [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Some have said that this hour is from entering the mosque on Friday prayers until the end of the prayer (i.e. between the two khutbahs), while others say it is the last hour of the day (i.e. after Asr prayer until the Maghrib Prayer).

5. While drinking Zamzam water

Jaber (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.” [Ahmad 3:357 and Ibn Majah #3062]. This means that if you drink Zamzam water, you can ask Allah (SWT) for anything you wish to receive or benefit from that water such as: B. Curing diseases…etc.

6. During prostration

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “A slave can be closest to his master when he is prostrating, so (please) invoke Allah (SWT) much in it. [Muslim, abu Dawud, an-Nasa’i and others, Sahih al-Jami #1175]

When a Muslim is in his salat (prayer) he is facing Allah (SWT) and when he is prostrating he is closest to Allah (SWT) so it is best to invoke Allah (SWT) at that time. It is said that during prostration one should not ask for worldly needs (e.g. a nice car, a new job, etc.) but for the afterlife.

7. Waking up in the night

Ubada Bin As-Samit narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Whoever wakes up at night and says: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shrika lahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shai’in qadir. Alhamdu lillahi, wa subhanallahi wa la ilaha illallahu, wallah akbir, wa la hawla wala quwata illa billah (none has the right to be worshiped except Allah (SWT) He is the only one who has no partners. His is the kingdom and all praises are for Allah (SWT) All glories are for Allah (SWT) And none has the right to be worshiped except Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) is the greatest and there is neither power nor might except with Allah (SWT). ) and then says: Allahumma ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me) or calling Allah (SWT), he will be answered and if he does the ablution and performs salat (prayer), his salat (prayer) will be accepted. [Sahih al-Bukhari]

8. At the end of the obligatory salad:

Narrated from Abu Omamah (RA): that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) was asked O Messenger of Allah which supplication is answered (by Allah (SWT)) he said at the end of the night and at the end of the obligatory salat (prayer) [ at-Tirmidhi] This time is after saying ‘At-tahyat’ and before the Tasleem (closing prayer)

9. The Night of ‘Qadr’ (Decree)

This night is the biggest night of the year. This is the night about which Almighty Allah (SWT) said: “The night of Al-Qadar (decree) is better than a thousand months.” [Surat al-Qadr, 97:3]

The Night of Destiny is one of the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights of the blessed month of Ramadan. The angels descend to earth and the earth is overwhelmed with peace and serenity until dawn and when the gates of Paradise are opened the worshiper is encouraged to turn to Allah for their needs in this world and the hereafter request .

10. During the rain

Narrated by Sahel Ibn Sa’ad (RA): that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Two shall not be rejected, supplication when the adhan (call to prayer) is called, and at the time of rain.” [Al-Hakim 2: 114 and Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah]

“Seek the answer to your du’as when armies meet and prayer is called and when rain falls” [reported by Imam al-Shafi” in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469]. The season of rain is a season of mercy from Allah (SWT), so one should take advantage of this season when Allah (SWT) has mercy on His servants.

11. On Adhan

“Seek the answer to your du’as when armies meet and prayer is called and when rain falls” [reported by Imam al-Shafi” in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469]

In another hadith; ‘When prayer is called, the doors of heaven open and the du’a is answered’ [al-Tayalisi in his Musnad #2106, al-Sahihah #1413]

12. The one who suffers injustice and oppression

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Mua’ad Ibn Jabal (RA): “Beware of the supplication of the wronged because there is no protection or veil between it (the supplication of the one who suffers injustice) and Allah (SWT) ‘ [Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Prophet (SAW) stated: “Three men whose dua will never be rejected (by Allah) are: the one who fasts until he breaks his fast (in another narration when he breaks the fast), the righteous ruler and the one who who is suppressed. ‘[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi – Hasan]

In another hadith; The Prophet (saww) stated: “Three du’a are surely answered: the du’a of the oppressed, the du’a of the traveller, and the du’a of the father/mother (on their child)”. The one who suffers injustice will be heard by Allah (SWT) when he invokes Allah (SWT) to keep his rights from the unjust or oppressor. Allah (SWT) swore to help whoever suffers from injustice sooner or later as the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said.

13. The Traveler

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Three supplications are not rejected (by Allah), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the fasting person and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

During the journey prayer will be answered by Allah (SWT) if the journey is for a good reason, but if the journey is for bad faith or to do illegal things (committing sins) this does not apply to it.

14. Parents’ prayer for their child

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Three supplications are not rejected (by Allah), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the fasting person and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

15. Dua after praising Allah and praying for the Prophet (saww) in tashahhud at the end of the prayer.

Narrated from Faddalah ibn Ubayd (RA): that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “When any of you makes Du’a, let him start glorifying his Lord and glorifying Him, then let blessings be upon the Prophet ( send SAW). , then let him pray for whatever he wants.

[Abu Dawud No. 1481, at-Tirmidhi No. 3477]

In another hadith; Baqiy ibn Mukhallid (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Every du’a will not be answered until one sends blessings on the Prophet (SAW).” [al-Bayhaqi]

In another hadith; Umar (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘Du’a is held between the heavens and the earth and no part of it will be taken until you send blessings on your Prophet (SAW)’ [at-Tirmidhi #486 ]

After a person has finished their tashahhud and before saying the “Salam,” it is likely that the supplication will be acted upon at that time.

Ibn Mas’ud narrated: I prayed once and the Prophet (saww), Abu Bakr and Umar (were all present). As I sat down (in the last tashahhud) I praised Allah, then sent greetings to the Prophet and then started praying for myself. Then the Prophet (saww) said:

“Please, and it will be given to you! Please, and you will get it!’ [at-Tirmidhi #593 – Hasan, Mishkat al-Misbah #931]

16. A Muslim’s Dua for his absent brother or sister Muslim coming from the heart.

The Prophet (SAW) said: “There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother in his absence where the angels do not say: ‘The same be for you.’ [Muslim]

17. Dua on the day of Arafat

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The best prayer is the prayer on the day of Arafat”. [at-Tirmidhi and Malik]

The day of Arafat is the essence and culmination of Hajj. On this great and momentous day, millions of believers from all corners of the world gather on one level with only one goal in mind – to heed the call of their Creator. On this auspicious day, Allah does not refuse the requests of His worshipers.

18. Dua during the month of Ramadan

Ramadan is a month full of blessings, so the du’a of Ramadan is a blessed one. This can be deduced from the saying of the Prophet (saww): “When Ramadan comes, the gates of mercy (another tradition says paradise) will be opened and the gates of hell will be closed and the shaytans will be imprisoned.” Thus it is clear that du’a has a greater chance of being accepted during Ramadan as the gates of paradise and mercy are opened. [Sahih al-Bukhari #1899, Muslim #1079 and others]

19. Dua when armies meet

When the Muslim faces the enemy in battle at this critical time, a believer’s du’a is accepted.

Sahl ibn Sa’d (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: Two duas are never rejected, or seldom rejected: the du’a during the call to prayer and the du’a during the clash of the two armies attack each other ’ [Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah, al-Hakim]

20. When Muslims gather to invoke and remember Allah (Dhikrullah).

The Prophet (saww) said: When a group of people sit together and remember Allah, the angels will surround them, mercy will surround them, peace will descend on them and Allah will remember them among those with Him. [Muslim]

21. The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

The Prophet (saww) said: “There are no days when good deeds are loved by Allah more than these ten days.”

[Sahih al-Bukhai #969 and others]

22. Dua, when the heart reaches out to Allah and is ready to be absolutely sincere

23. At midnight

Abu Umamah (RA) said the Prophet (SAW) was questioned; ‘What du’a is heard (from Allah)?’ He replied: ‘At midnight and at the end of every obligatory prayer.’ [at-Tirmidhi – Hasan]

25. Dua of people after a person’s death

In a long Hadith, Umm Salamah (r.a.) narrated that when Abu Salamah had just died and his eyes were closed, the Prophet (saas) said: ‘Do not ask for anything but good for yourselves, for the angels will say ‘Ameen” to anything you ask. O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah and increase his ranks among those who are rightly guided.’ [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Ahmad]

26. Dua of the fasting one until he breaks his fast.

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Three supplications are not rejected (by Allah), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the fasting person and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

27. Dua of one who is fasting at the time of breaking the fast The Prophet (SAW) stated: “Three men whose dua is never rejected (by Allah) are: When a fasting person breaks the fast (in another narration, the fasting person until he breaks his fast), the righteous ruler and the one who is oppressed.” [Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi – Hasan]

29. Dua of a Righteous Ruler

The Prophet (SAW) stated: “Three men whose dua will never be rejected (by Allah) are: the one who fasts until he breaks his fast (in another narration when he breaks the fast), the righteous ruler and the one who who is suppressed. ‘[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi – Hasan]

30. Dua of a son or daughter obedient to their parents

It is well known in the Hadith that three men were trapped by a huge stone in a cave. One of them, being kind to his parents, asked Allah to remove the stone and his du’a was answered. [Sahih al-Bukhari 3:36 #472]

31. Dua immediately after wudu

Umar ibn Al-Khattab narrated that the Prophet (saww) said: “There is none of you who does wudu and does it perfectly, then he says: I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. he is alone and has no partners. And I testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, except that the eight gates of Paradise are opened to him and he may enter through whichever he will” [Muslim #234, abu Dawud #162, Ahmad, an -Nasa’ i] Saying what was mentioned in the hadith directly related to it (ablution)

32. Dua after stoning the Jamarat at Hajj

The stoning of the small shaytan (jamrat sugra) or medium shaytan pillars (jamrat wusta) during Hajj. It is narrated that the Prophet (saas) stoned little Jamarah (one of the three pillars stoned in the last days of Hajj), then turned to the Qibla, raised his hands and made du’a for a long time. He would then stone the middle Jamarah and do the same. When he stoned the great Jamarah, he left her without making a du’a. [Sahih al-Bukhari #1753 and others]

33. At the crowing of a rooster

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “When you hear a rooster crowing then ask Allah for His bounty because he has seen an angel and when you hear a donkey crying then seek refuge with Allah before Shaytaan, for it saw a Shaytaan’ [Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, Sahih al-Jami #611]

34. Du’a made within the Ka’ba

The Kaaba is a sanctuary that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. The du’a of one who prays within the Hijr is considered to be made within the Ka’ba as it is part of the house (baitullah). [This is the semicircle to the right of the Kaaba as you face the door, opposite the Yemeni corner and the black stone wall.]

Usamah ibn Zayd narrated: When the Prophet (saww) entered the house (Ka’bah), he made du’a in all its corners [Muslim 2: 968 and others]

35. Du’a on the mountain of Safa or Marwah during Umrah or Hajj

It is narrated that the Prophet (saww) made long Du’as in Safa and Marwah. [Muslim #1218 and others]

36. Dua at one of the holy places.

37. When reciting Surah al-Fatihah

The Prophet (saww) said that Allah the Exalted had said: “I have divided the prayer in half between me and my slave and my slave will receive what he asks for. When the slave says, “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the universe,” Allah Most High says, “My slave has praised me. And when he (the servant) says: The Most Merciful, the Merciful, Allah the Exalted says: My servant has praised me. When he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of Judgment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me, and sometimes He will say: My servant has entrusted (his affairs) to Me. When he (the worshiper) says: ‘You we worship and from you we ask help’, He (Allah) says: ‘This is between me and my servant, and my servant will receive what he asks for. Then when he (the worshiper) says: “Lead us on the straight path, the path of those on whom You have been gracious – not of those who have displeased You, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for my servant, and my servant will receive what he asks for. [Muslim 4:395]

38. Saying “Ameen” during prayer

After finishing the recitation of al-Fatihah, the saying of ‘Ameen’ in the congregation. The Prophet (saw) said: ‘When the Imam says ‘Ameen’ then recite it (also) behind him, for whose Ameen agrees with the Ameen of the Angels, all his sins will be forgiven.’ [Sahih al-Bukhari #780, Muslim #410 and others]

39. When visiting the sick and duas of the sick

Umm Salamah narrated that the Prophet (saww) said: “When you visit the sick or the dead say well because the angels say ‘Ameen’ to whatever you say [Muslim #2126]

Ali (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “When a Muslim visits his sick Muslim brother in the morning, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness until the evening. And if he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness until morning, and he is granted a garden in Jannah in return.’

8 Best Times To Make Dua As Proposed By Scholars Themselves!

Dua, a very personal form of communication between a person and Allah, is an absolute necessity in Muslim life. It is a direct connection to God Almighty and in those four or five minutes of dua a person can talk about anything. Be it something that is stressing them, or something they want to thank Allah for, or even a simple conversation with Him, duas for Muslims offer a hope that no other person can have. Allah emphasizes our need to have a constant conversation with Him through Duas and even says that He will remember those who remember Him. However, have you ever wondered what would be the best time in a day when your prayer or dua would be most effective? Here is what the authors of the compiled ahaadeeth have for the best times to make dua:

1) Last third of the night (Sahih Bukhari)

For those who don’t know, the last third of the night can be calculated by counting the hours between Maghrib and Fajr Azaan. Dividing time into three parts, the last part is the last third of the night. Then the tahajjud prayer is performed and therefore a dua in tahajjud is effective.

2) During Sujood (Sahih Muslim)

A dua that is never rejected is in sajda or prostration, which is the greatest display of vulnerability. The posture proves that an individual has submitted completely to Allah Almighty and accepts Him as supreme.

3) During Adhan and Iqamah (Sahih Tirmidhi)

Each time an adhaan is invoked, a special dua is reserved. However, remember that instead of just making a dua and going to adhaan, it would be very effective if you continued to pray as well.

4) Dua after obligatory prayers (found in Tirmidhi)

Allah loves to hear from a person who speaks to Him after performing an obligatory duty to Allah. Speaking to Him after performing one of the five obligatory prayers is the time of day when your dua can be most effective.

5) During the Rain (found in Ibn Majah and Abu Dawud)

Rain is a blessing from Allah; This is certainly the case for countries with warm and dry climates. Perhaps rain is the time when Allah is most pleased with His people. Making dua during the rain and asking Him for something during this time is effective.
